Hello everyone,

ASIA server (thanks to Tanitha, who has been very busy getting new info) posted a preview of the 9.3 light tank line. Enjoy! Text by (I assume) Tanitha.

The upcoming update will bring an array of the new light tanks (USSR, German and USA) in WoT. Thus tech trees of these nations will be extended and get more logic structure.

The top ones will be VIII-tier light tanks. Let’s see what these tanks are capable of.

High tier LTs like AMX 13-90, T71, WZ-131/132 occupy a special place in the game. Those, who have experienced at least a dozen battles on them, hardly need any explanations of “light tank fun”. Just recall that vehement feeling when you approach enemy SPG from behind to finish it off!! Or when you hide in the bushes right in front of your enemies, while they’re circling under allied fire having no clue who spots them…

The new light tanks are introduced so as to enrich these feelings that inevitably follow the gameplay on light tanks, providing even more adrenalin for their owners.

All of them are nimble, due to their low mass and passability. Good observation coupled by low signature and decent armament allow these tanks to solve wide array of combat tasks: scouting, performing raids behind enemy lines. You shouldn’t forget about their significant rigidness as well – these tanks may effectively withstand even a round fired by a X-tier AT-SPG.

RU-251 (German) — speedy combat vehicle with a decent cannon.

This mysterious index hides a German recon tank that was designed in 1960s to become a predecessor of the notorious Leopard tank. In our game both these tanks are pretty close by concept, exterior and certain engineering aspects. Similar to Leopard 1 Ru-251 is featured by rather weak armoring. Being a huge disadvantage for a medium tank, this feature is not so dramatic for the light version: you won’t rely on your armor much anyway, but the dynamics of the tank is really enjoyable – the vehicle may speed up to 80 km/h! Add here a spotting range of 400m – and you’ll get a perfect solution for active recon missions. But the main feature of the tank is its cannon possessing decent DPM, accuracy and penetration. Shooting from it is very comfortable.

Nevertheless you shouldn’t rely on Ru-251 damaging capabilities that much. Shooting at front armor plates of IX–X tier tanks will be a real waste of ammo, limited by 41 round — rather small, compared to Ru-251′s firing rate.

Summing everything up, we expect Ru-251 to be appreciated by German tree enthusiasts as it took over the majority of the upsides of Leopard 1: decent maneuverability, good spotting range, comfortable cannon.

T49 LT (USA) — classic light tank, or a crazy bomber with a 152mm barrel? It is up for you to decide!

We’ll start our journey with this unusual and interesting sample, claiming its place among players’ favorites — T49 Light Tank. This vessel was designed in USA during WWII and became one of the versions of notorious M41 Walker Bulldog, a successor of “Chaffee”. The first thing you’ll ever notice is its 152mm cannon! Its parameters are close to that of legendary “Boomstick” of KV-2. Just imagine a compact version of KV-2, speeding as a scout, prepared to deliver HE presents to enemies, each worthy of 700-1000HP upon penetration! And we haven’t even started on HEAT rounds… Reasonably, the outstanding power of the cannon was compensated by decreased accuracy, rate of fire and convergence speed, so the tank won’t become too overpowered. T49 Light Tank will rather be an unusual, daring tank, with its own, unique gameplay.

Т-54 light (USSR) — maneuverable and comfortable to handle, capable of fulfilling a wide range of tasks.

Obviously, Soviet tech tree of light tanks is going to get a new topping – light version of the popular T-54. This tank inherits majority of the positive features of its predecessor, the most important one – overall playing comfort. Low profile and smooth shape pleases eye and increased maneuverability is really exciting: daring advances behind enemy lines and mad carousels around helpless opponents will become even easier. Eventhough you shouldn’t forget that this is still a light, not medium tank, with a decreased tier. Armor of the light Т-54 cannot effectively withstand impacts of the rounds fired by medium tanks, whereas your odds against light enemy tanks are pretty good. 100mm D-10Т cannon so well known to Soviet tree enthusiasts is pretty reliable. Possessing it you may feel confident and cause troubles to your lightly armored opponents.

So this light version is essentially a mix of light and medium tank. It is capable of solving an array of combat tasks: reconnaissance, capturing and holding key positions at the beginning, engagement of enemy scouts, supporting allied medium tanks, free hunt.

We remind you also that three more vehicles will be introduced in the update as well, along with the abovementioned tanks.

- T37 (VI tier, USA)
- M41 Walker Bulldog (VII tier, USA)
- LTTB (VII tier, USSR)

You may learn more about them and try them in battles yourselves on 9.3 public test.

Watch out for the news!

    • you say what?
maan if i’d like to be harsh i would say, fuck lights tds and arties, they are toxic to the game…WG should only keep meds and heavies, well even meds are bad for the game so….World of (heavy) Tanks, can’t wait to see it happen….

    • Yea, this is why heavy and med noobs that camp BEHIND own TDs and arty cry all the time for spotters??? maybe if some heavy and med NOOBs stop camping and start using his armor and terrain to move forward reducing range they can fuck pasive scouts…. you know, when i drive a light i like noobs stop at 300m where they cant spot me and i simple wait my team decide rape them… oooo but when heavies and meds push hard using terrain well, my only chance is run fast to try survive… remember that maps are SHIT for scouts, urban maps??? well scouts need fight and many other maps with last changes are losing a lot of pasive spot positions for lights.

Any way, a World of heavies could be fun to see 15 guys camping in base with other 15 guys camping in base insulting each other to force somebody move hahahaha.

PD: last months i play a lot with lights to train crew for new incoming lights and i can say that with arty is the most frustrating class in game because you depend of team, you can do a good job as spoter and see how is wasted because the guys in your team dont use minimap and select targets with their ass.

      • im a scout player.. i loved my scout arty. my poor bert.. id rather have that as a t8 scout.. :(

    • According to you whiners, at this point what doesn’t ruin the game? Let’s just go with “tanks ruin the game” and be done.

  1. “So this light version is essentially a mix of light and medium tank. It is capable of solving an array of combat tasks: reconnaissance, capturing and holding key positions at the beginning, engagement of enemy scouts, supporting allied medium tanks, free hunt.”

I only can say LOOOOOOOOL, any of the tier 8 scouts can arrive faster to initial good positions, any gun in top tier lights can pen it easy because it CANT hulldown to use the turret, his only true armored point… a RU or a T49 can simple rape LT-54 using hulldown because LT-54 NEEDS leave cover to fight and well, yep, maybe is a better support vehicle for meds but more a close support… a light based in “armor” lose his value when need fight at close range.

I think WG try sell LT-54 as the perfect light to guys that NEVER drive a light, at least in tier 9-10 battles…

I can say same with T49, they try sell it as super easy do 700-1000 hits over top tiers… well, i know the power of derp but in a tier 9-10 battle where you are in a non armored vehicle with no armor… stop 5s to aim means BOOOOM for you apart you need practically shoot only over stoped targets… as vulture could be interesting but in small maps or maps where is easy prevent this… andwell, remember derp is not a friend of pasive scouting… if you shoot that monster every blind tanks in a range of 400m are going to detect you.

Maybe i see the T49 with derp and LT-54 the most extreme lights in tier … compared with WZ-132 and RU-251 are less top tier scouts and more “support HE spammer” and “fake med”, AMX13-90 is the “assasin flanker” and RU251… ummm maybe i can call it “german WZ-132″ but with better stats even when i think actual lights over tier 6 are going to be rebalance.

    • I agree with the most of what you ve posted

some of these new lights will probably not be the best scout tanks especially the T 54 (slow bad viewrange) and T 49 (with derp) almost useless agaist moving targets and high risk of using it because of aiming time
But since the most maps are corridor maps now scouting isnt really nessecary anymore so I am fine if the scouts get specialized to perform other tasks also as long as they could manage to stay usefull even against t 10

As for the T 54 I guess it could be a nice vehicle to fight other scouts in starting fight for core positions (like hill in mines) in close combat it would have an advantage against RU (think it doesnt has hulldown also) or T 49
but if a t 10 med appears ….we all now what happens

T 49 could be usefull as support flanker or brawler or from med distance as
peak a bow gun with derp and relocate tactic

RU no idea its just ordinary scout I think hope at least its gun soft stats looks better as for leopards …
      nothing for me

      • I don’t think T49 is going to be particularly useful for anything with derp gun but its main selling point is just derping around.

Actually, now that I think of it. It’s the perfect light tank for new corridor maps. You can forget flanking and engage enemy frontally!

  2. anybody knows what are the parameters on the T49 lt normal gun, not the rocket launcher ?

  3. Ummm i think is a 90mm gun… maybe could be similar to one of the Pershing 90mm guns… 180mm pen is not a bad gun for regular T49.

  4. Hello’s.

Most text wasn’t by me, it was translated from HQ and just rearranged and tweaked a bit.
    PS your sites looking good.

    • And in the correct situation… drive a tier 8 scout in tier 10 battles is stress on tracks, you cant fail a single time or you are doomed… i think scouts need something more than this uber-tier 8 scouts, needs some game rebalance to made scouts something vital to team…. think that even with this great buff a med tier 10 can eat a scout very fast even when now it can suffer more damage VS one of them.

  5. Sorry if I ask this but is the T-54 Light still going to be a premium tank or did they discontinue that idea to make it a regular light tank?
P.S.: I ask this because I haven’t had the chance to read FTR in my vacation.

  7. “Or when you hide in the bushes right in front of your enemies, while they’re circling under allied fire having no clue who spots them…”
So much BS. They only forgot to mention that it is possible in 4 maps now and in 9.3 this number will reduce to 2 maps – Prokhorovka and Fiery Salient because now Malinovka and Murovanka will get butchered by New Wargaming Map Improving Model(TM).
