About the Fury Competition Results

Hello everyone,

so, the Fury Competition results are here.

Personally, I was really skeptical about the competition and still am about the movie, for various reasons:

- they wrecked the Sherman they used (followed by a Wargaming money drive for its restoration)
- the “LOL SHERMUN WUZ CRAP TEH TIGER BESTEREST TANK OF WAR” trailer
- too much hype
- I don’t like Brad Pitt

Anyway, about the competition. The first funny part is that the “super secret tank” (reskinned Sherman to looke like the one from the movie – not sure which version, the one appearing on the screen, or the way the tank looked after the shooting) is not even in the game (probably gonna be in 9.3 files coming out after this weekend), but whatever.

The winning trailer looks good I guess. I am really not a WoT video expert, but I kinda expected a bit more. But fair enough, why not. What struck me as odd however were the other “trailers”, for example the one, that won third place.

I mean, so there’s the American T20, the M6 or whatever and a Hellcat at the end, what does that have to do with the Fury movie? Absolutely nothing? It looks like an action version of a random WoT video. I know it took probably some (even considerable) effort, but… well, I don’t know.

And what do you think of the contest?

  1. I though the same about the 3rd place video, in my opinion it doesn’t deserve that place because there is no link with the movie.

    I watched the 5 videos available :
    I’m ok with the 1st.
The 2nd is low in fps (video treatment screw that I guess)
The 3rd sounds out of the main topic.
The 4th is not bad, but not outstanding.
I think the 5th place could be higher in the contest, because I feel that more effort was put in this one than the 3-4th place.
When I saw each videos it was like
    “- Good
    - mmmOk, sad about those fps
    - what the hell, where are shermans ?
    - Meh, why not
    - Ah, that’s good too !”
I don’t know about other videos.
(I have to say that I’m not an expert, but it’s my personnal feeling.)

But when it come to comment art, everyone have a different point of view !

  2. Very short, poorly done videos mostly, and some of them has nothing to do with Fury. I’m not saying i could do a better video, because i couldn’t. But, i sure would not have sent in some of those ones i can see on the top 5, i would feel ashamed showing them to others.

  3. WG and thier contests – I won razer hedset on gamescome stream (meme contest) and 3 weeks after day when I get email about win I still dont get prize – LOL

    • Well i heard from some ppl who won in one of the anniversary contest (specifically the one in 2013) and it took WG till September/October to send them their prices (The contest was in April, winners announced in Mai)

  4. The winner is somewhat OK-ish but my money would have gone to the video ranked 5th in the competition. 2, 3 and 4 were crap compared to 1 and 5.

Also, the “Discuss on forum” in the news article redirected to the polish portal. Dunno if they fixed that.

  5. i think they used 2 shermans when shooting fury one wich moves and shoots and other which is wracked and now is restored

  6. I dont really like the winner. Okay, it looks nice, but… WHERE IS THE FURY PART?? As a WoT trailer, meh. But a Fury trailer, nope.

  7. There were 2 different Sherman for the “Fury” role :
    - the Bovington museum one (wich appears on the picture)
    - a french guy’s Sherman replaced the 1st because of engine problem. This 2nd Sherman also played the “Matador” role in the movie.

  8. Wow the results are… strange… in the top 5 the best is the fifth and it’s still not very good

  9. I do not think that “too much hype” is a valid reason to dislike a movie. I’m sure your blog here is also pretty hyped and it ain’t bad ;)

  10. I’m just kinda sceptical about the veracity of the claim that Fury wrecked the M4 and left Bovington to foot the bill.

I’ve not found a single article that claims so, other than the “fundraiser” from Wargaming.

I personally find it much more plausible that Wargaming is faking the claim that that tank needs a charity drive to restore it than the scandal-hungry media never found out that a huge movie company wrecked a museum piece and left the struggling museum to foot the bill.

Either WG EU used the wrong photo, and the fury tank is not the one in need of restoration, or Wargaming is manufacturing drama to drum up sales. (What percent went to charity, and what went into their pockets?)

Or, If someone has a link to an article that is not merely basing all its info off of the “Bobington” sale that Wargaming had, please post it.

    • Nobody said that the makers of the movie broke the tank, that’s just SS talking out of his rear. Only thing that we know is that the tank was used in the movie, for all we know that tank may have been in even worse shape when they took it and they repainted it and used it for background shots.

Movies like this will use multiple tanks at multiple locations to shoot scenes, some in working order for moving shots, some just to sit in the background and others for interior shots.

      • This.
Where is the proof/sources to back up your claim that the filmmakers wrecked the Sherman? A well used track might get worn out, makes sense, but does that mean a tank is “wrecked”?
Not saying filmmakers from Hollywood are saints, but give us something to back up your (actually alleged WG!) claims, otherwise it just hearsay at best.
The picture “proof” shows a dirty Sherman with “Fury” painted on it, does that mean “wrecked”?

Also…you don’t like Brad Pitt? Fair enough, I think Shia LeBeauf (or however you spell it) is a useless cunt, but not really a strong argument is it? :-P

Ah and yes, that video won? Without a single Sherman/Tiger in it? Ahahaha!

  11. What do you think about my friends video to the contest? youtu.be/KBami2z4cqo I am greatly surprised not seeing his name anywhere within the list of winners. Maybe they were just looking for some random Tiger against Sherman action and not what he made.

  12. As I was reading though the rules again, it doesn’t say anywhere, that it has to be a copy of the movie, or about the entire movie, just to be inspired by it …

    And I quote:
    “4. Entry Requirements.
    Submission entry requirements:

-Your video has to be at least 30 seconds and at most 60 seconds long.

-Your video must use World of Tanks, World of Tanks: Blitz or World of Tanks:
Xbox 360 Edition gameplay footage. Edits are allowed.

-Your video should contain epic scenes of American armored vehicles battling German
armored vehicles (preferably Sherman vs. Tiger).

-Your video must contain the attached Fury movie trailer
end slate, provided by Sony Pictures Entertainment. The end slate has to be located in the first 5 seconds or last 5 seconds of your video. Only this material from the Fury movie can be used

-Your video may use attached additional materials provided
    by Sony Pictures Entertainment:

-No text, art or additional material may appear during the segments of your video which show the
material provided by Sony Pictures Entertainment neither by covering up part of the segment, nor supplementing it”

Anyone seeing MUST BE ABOUT THE MOVIE parts anywhere ? Cause I don’t …

    • The video is sht. No it doesnt need to be exactly like FURY, but they recommended to use shermen vs tiger, US vs german battle. This video could have been send to the garbage bin for that reason. But it’s EU. Who know what dumbasses choosed the videos lol!

  13. >- the “LOL SHERMUN WUZ CRAP TEH TIGER BESTEREST TANK OF WAR” trailer

Sherman indeed was quite inferior tank, especially compared with latest Third Reich and USSR developments. Same can be told about entire Allies (except USSR) tank design philosophy. Major tank battles and confrontation occurred only on the Eastern Front, while German tanks encountered no resistance on the Western Front in your typical tank vs. tank situations. Luckily for Americans and British, most of the top notch German Tigers/Panthers/Ferdinands were trying to stop Soviet advance, so the remains that were sent to the Western Front could be dealt with using air support, artillery and infantry anti-tank munitions.

And yes, in general Sherman tank posed no threat to Tiger tank.

      • Is it typical for people like you to have a discussion using only lines and phrases from stupid memes? It’s not 4chan here, get lost.

“By 1944, the M4 Sherman and the TD units proved to be outmatched by the 45 ton Panther tank, and wholly inadequate against the 56 ton Tiger I and later 70 ton Tiger II heavy tanks, suffering high casualties against their heavier armor and more powerful 88 mm L/56 and L/71 cannons.”
        – en.wikipedia.org

        • Because wiki is an impeccable resource to cite.

I’m not going to even bother linking the multitude of articles from this very site repeatedly disproving the claim that the M4 tank had poor combat efficiency in comparison to contemporary German talks, that use actual data, not anecdotes from wiki.

I will tell you to look at the last week’s articles from this very blog.

          And then, I will say:
Your trolling is bad, and you should feel bad

          • First, it’s nothing wrong to cite wiki. Every sentence there will have at least few links to back it up.

Second, In any case, I was referring to wiki not as reliable source, but as indication that this opinion about Sherman tank is present in English speaking circles and is quite ponderable. That gives some place to start.

Third, quoting this blog while refusing Wiki in reliability is a hell of a hypocrisy. While Wiki is not perfect and professionals usually prefer to find more trustworthy sources, this site is not in the least can be used in backing something up, as author is competent only in World of Tanks area, but fails in knowing history and fails miserably in being unbiased.

If you want something more than Wiki, try this:
            http://archives.library.illinois.edu/blog/poor-defense-sherman-tanks-ww2/

And then, again: go back to your 4chan.

        • I’m not saying that you’re wrong, but trying to prove your point by quoting Wikipedia is a bad idea. If you really HAVE to quote Wikipedia, do use the source that’s provided at the bottom of the page.

  14. If anyone would actually read the full rules (in the pdf file) they would understand that the contest was graded based on 2 things: Relativity to Fury & Creativity. As much as I can see most of the videos are pretty much the same so that kind of destroy’s the creativity thing.
One trailer is different from all the others, I wonder which one?

  15. Would be better if it had some version of the M4 or actually, ANY tank related to the movie. ::shrug::

  16. >>HyperX 16GB USB Stick

Wow, awesome price. This retails to about 10€, with 15€ for 32GB.
Looks like someone wants to get rid of his stack old USB sticks …

Btw, for me the top reason to not go watch the movie:
    StarWars laser bullets
