Czechoslovak Main Branch in WoT Terms – Part 1

Hello everyone,

this will be almost certainly the last of the game-related articles about the Czechoslovak tanks – the ingame summary of the vehicles to appear in the first branch. I have never really made a summary, how would they behave in the game. Inspired by Karika and his Hungarian tank post, here’s how the main Czechoslovak branch would look.

After this post (resp. its second part), I will most likely stick to historical articles, unless something new/interesting comes along, that would fit the game nicely.

Now, here’s my (latest/final) proposal for the Czechoslovak branch:

hKUn34l

The “main” branch would be the blue one, with TVP as the tier 10 medium tank. After all, medium tanks always come first, when a new branch/tree is implemented by Wargaming. So, let’s have a look at them, strictly from the game perspective. Historical articles on those respective vehicles can always be found in the history section.

Numbers in brackets mean elite setup. Naturally, the soft and ingame stats are my pure guesswork.

Tier 1 – Kolohousenka

Short ingame description:

Early Czechoslovak attempt to create a wheel-cum-track armored vehicle. Several prototypes were manufactured between 1924 and 1930, based on Vollmer’s suspension design. Three were exported to Italy and Soviet Union. Never mass-produced, one prototype was used for training until 1935.

Tier: 1
Crew: 2 (commander/gunner/loader/”radioman” and a driver)
Hitpoints: 120 (130)
Viewrange: 260 (280)
Weight: 8,5 (9) tons

Armor (hull): 14/8/6

Turrets: Cylinder, Conical
Armor (turret, stock): 14/14/14
Armor (turret, elite): 14/14/14

Maximum speed: 18 km/h

Engines:
Hanomag WD-60PS (60hp, 6,66 hp/t)
Škoda WD-70HP (70hp, 7,77 hp/t)

Guns:

37mm Škoda L/27 (stock, balance proposed based on the German stock tier 1)
Caliber: 37mm
Barrel length: L/27
Penetration: 25/10
Damage: 36/42
Accuracy: 0,5
Aimtime: 1,7

47mm Vickers
Caliber: 47mm
Barrel length: L/20
Penetration: 30/45/23
Damage: 50/50/65
Accuracy: 0,45
Aimtime: 1,9

Tracks: KH-60, KH-70 (28 and 30 deg/s)
Radios: Signal Flags (90m), Vz.35 (260m)

Ingame summary: it’s basically something like the British tier 1. Large, with higher caliber guns for its tier. but underpowered and slow. Lower gun penetration is compensated by DPM increase.

Tier 2 – LT Vz.35

Short ingame description:

A mass-produced light tank by Škoda, forming the backbone of Czechoslovak armored forces between 1935 and 1938. Two hundreds of these excellent and reliable light tanks were captured and used by the German occupants. By 1941, they were however obsolete and were relegated to second-line duties.

Tier: 2
Crew: 3 (commander/gunner/loader, driver, radioman)
Hitpoints: 150 (180)
Viewrange: 290 (320)
Weight: 10,5 tons

Armor (hull): 25/16/16

Turrets: LT Vz.35, T-11

Škoda T-11/2 (135hp, 12,86 hp/t)

Guns:

Škoda A3
Caliber: 37mm
Barrel length: L/39,5
Penetration: 40/69/18
Damage: 40/40/45
Accuracy: 0,48
Aimtime: 1,7

Škoda A8
Caliber: 37mm
Barrel length: L/40
Penetration: 40/69/18
Damage: 40/40/45
Accuracy: 0,41
Aimtime: 1,5

Tracks: Vz.35, T-11
Radios: Vz.35 (260m), Vz.37 (290), FuG 8 (550)

Ingame summary: this is a Panzer 35t, but with some historical upgrades – basically, you trade less mobility for more DPM. It’s a mashup of LT Vz.35 and T-11 tank . There are other options for this tank, if you are interested, check this post.

Tier 3 – LT Vz.38

Short ingame description:

This light tank from Praga was by the time of its introduction undoubtedly the best light tank in the world. Unfortunately, the entire production stock was seized by the German occupants, who then used it under the designation of Panzer 38 (t). The vehicle became obsolete by 1942, but many were converted to other purposes, such as self-propelled AT guns or artillery.

Tier: 3
Crew: 4 (commander/gunner, driver, loader, radioman)
Hitpoints: 200 (250)
Viewrange: 310 (330)
Weight: 9,725 (10,5) tons

Armor (hull): 25/15/15

Turrets: LT Vz.38, TNH-Sv
Armor (turret, stock): 25/15/15
Armor (turret, elite): 50/15/15

Maximum speed: 42 km/h
Hull traverse: 34 (36) deg/s

Engines:

Praga TNHPS/2 (125hp, 11,36 hp/t)
Scania-Vabis 1664 (142hp, 12,9 hp/t)
Scania-Vabis 603 (162hp, 14,72 hp/t)

Guns:

Škoda A3
Caliber: 37mm
Barrel length: L/39,5
Penetration: 40/69/18
Damage: 40/40/45
Accuracy: 0,46
Aimtime: 1,5

Škoda A7
Caliber: 37mm
Barrel length: L/50
Penetration: 42/74/18
Damage: 40/40/45
Accuracy: 0,41
Aimtime: 1,7

Tracks: Vz.38, TNH-Sv
Radios: Vz.37 (290), Sv/1 (310), FuG 8 (550)

Ingame summary: Again, compared to 38t, it’s sacrificing mobility for increased firepower (DPM). The problem with LT Vz.38 is – it was developed further, sure, but that’s Panzer 38t and that is already in the game. Therefore, I combined the vehicle with the export upgrades for Sweden (in Sweden, the vehicle was known as Strv m/41 and was quite successful). It’s probably the least bad of the bad solutions, which would include a Panzer 38t turret (some late form) or post-war LT Vz.38 development, which however more like based on 38t n.A. (the TNH 57/900) and would be way too OP for tier 3. It’s also a nice connection to the Swedish branch.

Tier 4 – V-8-H

Short ingame description:

Czechoslovak medium tank prototype, first built in 1937 and planned for production under the ST Vz.39 designation. Despite being a solid design, the occupation of Czechoslovakia prevented its entry into service. One of the first armored vehicles in the world, that could be sealed against gas attack by overpressuring the crew compartment.

Tier: 4
Crew: 4 (commander/gunner, driver, loader, radioman)
Hitpoints: 320 (350)
Viewrange: 320 (340)
Weight: 16,195 (18,4) tons

Armor (hull): 32/25/20

Turrets: V-8-H, V-8-H-Sv
Armor (turret, stock): 32/20/10
Armor (turret, elite): 60/40/30

Maximum speed: 40 km/h
Hull traverse: 36 (38) deg/s

Engines:

Praga NR (225hp, 12,22 hp/t)
Praga V8H-Sv (240hp, 12,9 hp/t)
Praga V8 (260hp, 14,13 hp/t)

Guns:

Škoda A9
Caliber: 47mm
Barrel length: L/43,4
Penetration: 62/115/24
Damage: 60/60/75
Accuracy: 0,37
Aimtime: 1,7

Škoda A11
Caliber: 47mm
Barrel length: L/43,4
Penetration: 71/132/27
Damage: 60/60/75
Accuracy: 0,35
Aimtime: 1,7

7,5cm kan m/41
Caliber: 75mm
Barrel length: L/31
Penetration: 75/90/34
Damage: 110/110/175
Accuracy: 0,43
Aimtime: 2,3

Tracks: V-8-H, V-8-H-Sv
Radios: Vz.37 (290), Sv/1 (310), FuG 8 (550)

Ingame summary: A relatively bland, but solid tier 4 medium tank. It’s a composition of the basic ST Vz.39 vehicle and the V-8-H-Sv prototype for Sweden. This too can be used for the “finishing” post. Alternatively, the vehicle could be mixed with TT-15 (uparmored V-8-H version for Turkey) without the 75mm gun, but with 37mm A7 as a stock gun.

Tier 5 – T-24

Short ingame description:

Wartime project for a “lighter” medium tank by Škoda from 1941/1942. Never reached past the blueprint phase.

Tier: 5
Crew: 4 (commander, driver, gunner/loader, radioman)
Hitpoints: 500
Viewrange: 350
Weight: 18,5 tons

Armor (hull): 60/30/20

Turrets: T-24 (yes, only one turret here)
Armor (turret, elite): 60/30/20

Maximum speed: 58 km/h
Hull traverse: 36 (38) deg/s

Engines:

Škoda V12 (380 hp, 20,54 hp/t)
Škoda Diesel Exp. (400 hp, 21,62 hp/t)

Guns:

Škoda A13
Caliber: 75mm
Barrel length: L/36,4
Penetration: 104/135/38
Damage: 110/110/175
Accuracy: 0,4
Aimtime: 2,3

Škoda A18 (without autoloader)
Caliber: 75mm
Barrel length: L/55
Penetration: 142/170/38
Damage: 110/110/175
Accuracy: 0,38
Aimtime: 2,0

Tracks: T-24-I, T-24-II
Radios: FuG 7 (415), FuG 8 (550), FuG 12 (710)

Ingame summary: Light, mobile tier 5 medium vehicle. Its drawback is the fact that it has only one turret, but that can of course be compensated by XP costs of other components. Otherwise, there’s not really special about it. The armor is mediocre for its tier.

Tier 6 – T-25

Short ingame description:

A medium tank project by Škoda, designed as an initiative to create a tank, able to compete with the Soviet T-34 tanks. Lighter and cheaper than the Panther, the project was nevertheless cancelled in favour of German development.

Tier: 6
Crew: 4 (commander, driver, gunner/loader, radioman)
Hitpoints: 700 (750)
Viewrange: 350 (370)
Weight: 23 tons

Armor (hull): 60/35/25

Turrets: T-24, T-25
Armor (turret, stock): 60/30/20
Armor (turret, elite): 60/35/25

Maximum speed: 60 km/h
Hull traverse: 38 (42) deg/s

Engines:

Škoda Diesel Exp. (400 hp, 17,39 hp/t)
Škoda 19,8 liter V12 (450hp, 19,56 hp/t)

Guns:

Škoda A18 (without autoloader)
Caliber: 75mm
Barrel length: L/55
Penetration: 142/170/38
Damage: 110/110/175
Accuracy: 0,38
Aimtime: 2,0

Škoda A18 (with 6 round autoloader)
Caliber: 75mm
Barrel length: L/55
Penetration: 142/170/38
Damage: 110/110/175
Accuracy: 0,37
Aimtime: 1,8

Tracks: T-25-I, T-25-II
Radios: FuG 8 (550), FuG 12 (710)

Ingame summary: This is the T-25, brought up to historical specifications by adding an autoloader. It was concieved as a highly mobile vehicle with relatively well-sloped armor, that is nevertheless thinner than the one of the ingame T-25 (which is quite unhistorical). On the other hand, with a mobility buff (soft stats, traverse), the vehicle has acceptable power-to-weight and could perform well. The biggest “ace in the sleeve” is the advanced 75mm gun, that is heavily nerfed in the game. In real life, it had much higher penetration. The gun was also capable of firing German 75mm ammunition due to the unification requirements. The autoloader for the gun was actually built and tested.

Part 2 will continue with T-34/100, T-50, T-51 and TVP

  1. Kolohousenka looks like it needs a spoiler, two rockets to the side and vuolia!
Goddamn death vehicle from cartoons or videogames :D

    • Could be balanced by delay between shots. Chi-Ri kind of works because of this, I’d prefer a quick shot reload with few shells rather than longer shot reload and more shells (magazine reload obviously depending on the amount of shots).

  2. WG forum . Questions for game developers : Was German occupants ?
    Serb: “How terrible…”
    Storm: ”Germ….Russians was liberators”
Evilly: ”LT Vz.38 is german tank and WT-100 is balanced tank destroyer”

  3. The LT Vz.35 description says that it’s a tier III.
    And:
    “Škoda A18 (without autoloader)
    Caliber: 75mm
    Barrel length: L/55
    Penetration: 142/170/38
    Damage: 110/110/175
    Accuracy: 0,38
Aimtime: 2,0 (looks like a bit nerfed 7.5 KwK 42)

Ingame summary: Light, mobile tier 5 medium vehicle…Otherwise, there’s not really special about it…”
Nothing special? High mobility with high pen – must have fun tenk!
Also, what kind of ammo A18 was supposed to shoot (except 7.5 cm german shells)? What are “real” penetration values?

  4. No real ‘edge’ to the tanks, not a country any outside eu knows about, and most importantly not pretty designs, it >will< become the new japanese if it releases, unless they buff the crap of the t10.

Just my impression, might be totally wrong.

    • Well… wait for the high tiers then, those are quite original. Still, the main advantage here is the presence of large Czechoslovak playerbase on EU server, that (unfortunately, unlike the Polish) can actually build a design branch. If Poland had at least a semblance of original tank design to tier 10, you can be sure they would be the first EU nation to be implemented.

    • “not a country any outside eu knows about”….. great example of well educated player…… you were probably missing in geography lectures, when countries of the world were taught

  5. Actually SS about the TNH-SV turret, the original model that was used on the Strv m/41-S/I had 25mm of frontal armor just like the Czech prototype BUT from what i have understood the armor upgrade for the later production Strv m/41-S/II was a purely Swedish idea with no input from Czechoslovakia. This would mean that you may have to find another top turret for the LT.38

I can go over the documents again to verify this

    • I know. The Czechoslovak “research” line went to the Panzer 38t, 38t nA, both of which are already in the game. Considering the EU tree is planned to be combined, I would say it’s an acceptable solution than other… alternatives.

  6. Looks very nice. As always, I am impressed with Skoda’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities. They clearly knew what it took to make a good vehicle. For those of you who think otherwise, remember that the ‘juggernaut’ tanks to beat in 1935, 1938 were tanks like the S35, the Panzer II, and the BT-7. The LT Vz.35 and LT Vz.38 are no slouches. The S35 clearly put crew protection above all else, however, it’s quite apparent that the LT’s are easier to service and produce, which is of the upmost importance when looking at military vehicles.

I read up on Skoda’s history out of curiousity; that tale does not have a happy ending.

SS, I am sorry, but I cannot take the tier 1 seriously. It looks like a Renault FT Bus.

      • Yea, It’s cute but that thing will stop all the noobs from going up the line.
It’s an obese FT that will cause players to rage as they can’t get up any hills.

      • SS, that thing would need a 150hp engine and a towed howitzer magically mounted in the turret to be taken seriously. It looks like it was designed as target practice.

          • SS, I guarantee you, it will be the brunt of many jokes, such as the TOG’s accidental son, the landboat, a child’s toy, and so on and so forth.

On the other hand, I don’t think anyone wants to see a fourth Renault FT. Could a larger caliber gun technically fit in the turret? As a tier 1, it need not be historical.

            • I know, that’s the beauty of it :)

It’s tier 1 – it takes 5 minutes to skip, but its reputation could be legendary :) Russians already invented two variants of its name: “Kolochuysenka” and “Kolkhozenka” (Slavic people will understand)

              • It is better than the Medium I, I suppose.

I would definitely look for higher caliber guns that could reasonably fit into the turret, still.

          • SS, I’m sorry that I disagreed with your choice for tier 1. It’s a original tank design that is better than all the other tier 1 choices. I just couldn’t take the tank seriously, the look and the name just put me off. If they do add this tank I will try my best to enjoy it. I just hope that a tank branch like this doesn’t get frenched and is ignore for more Soviet, German or American money makers. Best of Luck

  7. Wait a minute…T-50? Awesome tier 4 light? :D

    Tiger 1 75mm A18? :D:D:D:D I know what Czech prem I’M getting :D:D:D:D

  8. Why’d you move the ShPTK-TVP tank destroyer from tier 6 to tier 9?

Would have been crazy at tier 6 with the 100mm gun and 1000hp engine. LOL

Or with the 152mm howitzer. God people would hate it so much! Would totally exploit the camouflage system with it too.
