Hello everyone,
some of you guys (thanks to Listy for this particular thing) might have noticed one thing about the new 9.5 branch. We basically have to relatively identical vehicles in the game – the M10 US TD and the Achillers, which are mostly identical (Achilles is simply a re-armed M10), yet they – in the game – have quite a different armor. Check it out – the M10:
And the Achilles:
Basically, as you can see, the frontal Achilles armor is mostly 38,1mm thick (with that red part being 50,8mm thick), the sides are 19,1mm thick, the mantlet is 57,2mm thick and most of the frontal turret is 19,1mm thick with 25,4mm sides. On the other hand, the M10 front is entirely 51mm thick (with the red part being much larger – and 114mm thick), the sides are roughly equal (19mm) and so is the mantlet, but the entire turret front is 57mm thick and the hole behind the mantlet is much smaller. What’s up with that?
Well, that’s because M10 is ridiculously overarmored in the game. It’s the same story as with other models – M10 is quite an old model and back then, historicity was not that important as it is now for Wargaming (well, unless they decide to implement some made-up shit again anyway), that’s why it ended up with much thicker armor than it should have. In any case, it’s quite likely that when it is reworked to HD, the M10 armor gets nerfed to the Achilles level. The M36 Jackson has the same issue by the way.
Still, it’s very likely this will be compensated by buffs in other areas, so…
omglol 1th
swag
So, you’re saying you’re a gay…
Why do I think this lil info is NOT interesting and noone cares?
———-
And to SS:
GJ!
So gay is same as being something bad?
>>swag<<
so, you want to say it is good?
k
I noticed already the Achilles armor is non-existed when autoloading low tier scout can pen it frontally raping your HP.
Also, too bad the T-54 still has 120mm frontal armor when it was reworked to HD, which is totally retarded with the agility it has now.
Not that T-54 is OP right now. After the rework the turret got raped, anything with half a brain can penetrate it now. Cry about something that makes more sense.
but………. but…… he bounced on it with his stock t7 tank, ofcourse he has to cry.. op armour nerf plox……
talking about armour models, the ‘PCRoom M48A1′ visual and collision models are fucked. at least it matches though….
it’s the models that aren’t in the game, thank god.
The Achilles actually had additional armour added to it by the British. The gun depression is nerfed too. Thank you war gaming……wankers
“The gun depression is nerfed too.”
AFAIK the 5° depression is correct.
Even the Wiki page on it shows an Achilles with gun almost touching the front plate. Does this look like 5 degrees depression?

or this?

They nerfed it.
“Does this look like 5 degrees depression?”
Yes.
You need a protractor for next Christmas, methinks. :p
It’s a well documented element that the Achillies could drop that beast of a gun waaaay more than -5. It got nerfed in game because “lol British”, more than likely.
I actually used Tank Viewer and played with it a little to confirm it.
I also looked around the interwebs and can’t find much info on the matter. The best I found was a thread on NA forum (http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/407206-achilles-gun-depression-should-be-10-degreesphotos-attached/): ” Achillies were manufactured with a depression stop that limited it to -5 degrees like the Firefly [...] The stop could be easily removed as a field mod to allow the full -10 degrees, but it was designed with -5.”
If you know of a good online source of info on Achilles, I’d be glad if you shared it. :)
The gun had more than 5 deg but for some reason they put a limiter block under the gun to stop it at 5 degrees. I don’t think any crew ever kept that block on the vehicle but that is how it was issued.
Which one was the ol’ Slugger?
M36 was the slugger.
Out of curiosity, how overbuffed is the Jackson’s armor? I know at it’s thickest point it’s supposed to be roughly as thick as that of the Tiger I, but how big is that area in actuality? Just the uh, crotch, between the front wheels?
A better question would be why don’t the m10 or m36 have the Ford GAA (500hp) motor, yet the Achilles does? More than happy for historical armour if they give both Us TD’s the historical motor.
The GAA has been on the books for many years now, but it’s been implied the general American tree rebalance has been broken up so changes will be coming as each tank gets their HD conversion
Its armour (aside from the turret, obviously) should be the same as that of the M10, like Achilles is now.
The Achilles is not the same as the M10. The achilles had an additional 17mm welded or bolted on to hull front and sides. Wargaming have been so very lazy with this model.
I didn’t comment on Achilles’s armour. I said Jackson’s armour should be same as Achilles has now.
SS, there is an erratum: “the M10 US TD and the Achillers”
Just mentioning, not a big thing :)
Didn’t WG say that the Easy 8 would have the same historical armor as the Fury once it’s rendered in HD? In other words, the Easy 8 will be nerfed.
Yep
as long they dont touch the speed or gun (in a bad way) , its fine with me
I doubt they’ll buff it in other areas if they nerf the armour – they haven’t done the same for any of the other tanks that got nerfed by HD (Tortoise, M103, Sherman, T-54, etc…)
HD rework will “screw up” alot of existing tanks. It is historical but the thing is WG is not compensating the “nerfed” tanks with anything at all. Which is quite stupid and unfair IMO.
No pls.The reason I chose the Wolverine or the T67 is its ability to survive low tier shots and 105 derp.Don’t touch the armour.
M10 even better than before? Unpossible!
(Who even relies on armor in M10, except for maybe turret)
here we go with more whining about other random tanks being OP…so tired of the cry babies,,shit was never an issue the last 3 years, NOW all of a sudden we got to find something new to cry about..idiots
All the sources I can find say the M36 has a maximum of 108mm of armor. Can someone confirm that’s wrong?
I believe that 108 millimeter section only consisted of the transmission housing.
“Still, it’s very likely this will be compensated by buffs in other areas, so… ”
Good joke dude. Maybe if it was russian.
