History of Great Victory: T-34 Commander

Wargaming RU released another WW2-themed video from the “History of Great Victory” series. This time, it’s the memories of Dmitry Mikhailovich Malyshev, a wartime commander of a T-34/85 tank. Do watch it, the memories of veterans are always interesting and actually, we should record as much as we can, as these men and women won’t be around for much longer. English subtitles are available. The video is of distinctive “Russian” style, but still, worth watching.

 

 

In the video, Dmitry Malyshev explains how they trained, recieved their T-34/85 tanks, liberated Brest and captured a German Waffen SS general. He continued to Hungary, where he describes an event how he and other Soviet troops knocked out a Panther and a Tiger. He was wounded in October 1944 and remained in Moscow for the rest of the war.

Do expect many more of these videos this year, as the 70th anniversary of the end of the war approaches. One thing is absolutely sure though – no matter what you think of Russians these days, these men were simple soldiers and real heroes. It takes guts to go and fight for your country.

          Go make your own veteran’s recollection of History video and then SS can consider putting it on FTR. It’s not like there has not been any pro-U.S. stuff on FTR before.

          • As long as you accept that 1 in 3 of the veterans who are talking are rapists that is….you have to accept it as fact.

            3 Evils fought…..German, Japan AND RUSSIA….all three were monstrous

  3. Video made me really sad at some points, when you see veteran crying, you know it was really scary. For me its really hard to watch videos when they talk about friends lost in combat.

    I hope we wont have to experience war.

    well some of us (not saying its a specific class of tanks players) don’t even have the guts to fight the enemy in a video game and they suicide when their time has come.

    • You would be surprised to know how many man in rl decided to put bullet in their heads so they don’t fall to enemy hands.

      • except in rl you take nothing from your enemies ( maybe you take the joy of a kill/torture, but thats not a pleasure for any sane person) while in wot… enemy t62 has 8 kills and is coming for us. n’ah better drown.

    And when German Communists warned him that the rapes were turning the population against them, Stalin fumed: “I will not allow anyone to drag the reputation of the Red Army in the mud.”

    The rapes had begun as soon as the Red Army entered East Prussia and Silesia in 1944. In many towns and villages every female, aged from 10 to 80, was raped. Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the Nobel laureate who was then a young officer, described the horror in his narrative poem Prussian Nights: “The little daughter’s on the mattress,/Dead. How many have been on it/A platoon, a company perhaps?”

    But Solzhenitsyn was rare: most of his comrades regarded rape as legitimate. As the offensive struck deep into Germany, the orders of Marshal Zhukov, their commander, stated: “Woe to the land of the murderers. We will get a terrible revenge for everything.”

    By the time the Red Army reached Berlin its reputation, reinforced by Nazi propaganda, had already terrified the population, many of whom fled. Though the hopeless struggle came to an end in May 1945, the ordeal of German women did not.

    How many German women were raped? One can only guess, but a high proportion of at least 15 million women who either lived in the Soviet Union zone or were expelled from the eastern provinces. The scale of rape is suggested by the fact that about two million women had illegal abortions every year between 1945 and 1948.

      do i need to remind you, guy with a teutonic name, that when Deutschland conquered Ukraine, that the population held in very high regard the Wehrmacht and seen them as liberators? But heck, then came die SchutzStaffel and fucked and raped and murdered anyone and each and everyone in his wake so that the entire population turned to partizan action?!?!
      No, of course you dont know that, of course you dont know that russians just gave the german civil population the same treatment the families of russian soldiers received from SS during the occupation years, and more from that scorched earth tactics they employed during their “strategic” retreat.
      I´m no russian lover and hell, my grandfathers suffered a lot from those fucking mongols but hell, za germans had it coming man… they really asked for it!

  6. It is weird this guy cries about the decimation of the Soviet citizens and still adores Stalin who was fully responsible for the famine in Ukraine, which was worse than anything that happened to the Soviets during the war itself.
