21.6.2013

- Storm confirmed that tank destroyers keep their better camo coefficients than the rest of the vehicles despite camo coefficient’s rebalance to fit it to the vehicle dimensions
- when considering rebalance of vehicles, the current principles stay the same as before
- contrary to earlier reports, the new 0.8.6 shell distribution (AKA “increased accuracy”) DOES apply to arty also, the arty accuracy nerf was actually meant as a balance so that their accuracy remains the same
- King Tiger is “too small” for the superheavy spall liner
- it’s possible to delete the content of X:\Games\World of Tanks\Updates folder safely, those are just old files
- the miniquests (“combat tasks”) won’t be permanent, WG will continually introduce new ones and remove the old ones
- there were rumors that the new map will be called “mansion” – that is not the case
- Storm when asked whether he likes new sounds: “50/50″
- some players were whining about TD’s being the new arties (too many), Storm thinks it’s BS (“Give me 10 screenshots of 10 battles on tier 10, that follow each other, with 7-10TD’s in every team. If you don’t, I will ban you – ok?”
- historical “normalisation” on Soviet guns varied a lot, it was from 0 to 7-8 degrees (SS: “normalisation” effect – improving the impact angle – was archieved by soft-capped shells, that partially deformed upon impact and “chewed” into armor)
- for now it’s not yet decided, whether a special MM rule, forcing the same type of top tanks in both teams will be implemented (SS: so that one team doesn’t have two T10 heavies and the other two T10 arties)
- special map-based MM (SS: for example heavies often having maps with more cover) will not be implemented
- so far, Storm thinks the accuracy wasn’t overbuffed, but he will keep an eye on statistics
- the Westfield bridge was repaired only for the assault mode
- shell distribution within the aim circle IS dependent on the gun accuracy. A gun with 0.33 accuracy will have more shells flying straight to the center than a 0.4 gun.
- official shell velocity data won’t be made public
- British and German tanks won’t recieve any buff to compensate for the fact that now ALL the tanks are reasonably accurate and not just them
- if you hit enemy tracks and recieve “that one bounced” sound, even though you detracked the enemy, it’s not a bug, it means that the shell didn’t penetrate the armor behind the tracks
- Q: “Is it true that at this moment, WoT is more popular than World of Warcraft or Counterstrike?” A: “Depends which parameters you measure.”
- during the announced big rework of game models, both tanks and other objects (houses etc.) will be reworked, but not necesserily at the same time
- the fact some tank has covered tracks by (real life) spaced armor plates doesn’t automatically mean these plates are actually working as extra spaced armor, it’s different with each tank (SS: for example the Schmalturm PzIV side mesh armor doesn’t work), but if it does, then it counts as two layers of spaced armor: one is the plate and one is the track module behind it
- realistic sounds like in Gnomefather’s mod? “We need time to implement such stuff, so we can do it in good quality”
- the reason for the roaming mechanism are clanwars and international championships, roaming in randoms is just a “side-effect”
- SerB states that the current negative reaction on the patch is not unusual: “It’s always like that”, this negative reaction comprises largely of the reluctance to adapt to new conditions
- SerB commenting on the fact that while some vehicles in the game are historical and it’s not a problem, some are not and when players point that out, the reply is “it’s not a simulator”:

“We have a game (a game, not a simulator) based on historical basis. We decide, where the basis ends and the game begins. Yes, whenever we want and however we want.”

- Evilly (RU community chief): it’s still an open question, whether there will be permanent rewards for medals

  1. “- contrary to earlier reports, the new 0.8.6 shell distribution (AKA “increased accuracy”) DOES apply to arty also, the arty accuracy nerf was actually meant as a balance so that their accuracy remains the same”
Shall I laugh or whine about WG’s communication? -.-

“- King Tiger is “too small” for the superheavy spall liner”
    …. aha

    • The KT totally deserves a SHSL. Why base the weight off of stock configuration, instead when it clearly beats the mark once upgraded?

  2. I can see the ‘arty accuracy’ issue being a little contentious, especially at this point in the patch process.

  3. - realistic sounds like in Gnomefather’s mod? “We need time to implement such stuff, so we can do it in good quality”.

WoT sounds – might as well turn it off.
HR sounds – HOLY CRAP!!! My speakers just blew off!!

Yep, as I have good bass, my room shakes from big guns :D

  4. - SerB commenting on the fact that while some vehicles in the game are historical and it’s not a problem, some are not and when players point that out, the reply is “it’s not a simulator”:

Or they can just admit they are too lazy to implement research properly.

    • lazy is far too kind, look at the american tier XI and X tanks: t110e5, t110e4, t110e3, M48 Patton, T54e1, t57 Heavy, M103 all of them have basically the same hull. One of them didn’t even exist on paper (I’m looking at you e4), although there is another, far more historical solution for a turreted tier X td: the H2 with its super badass LPF, but hey thats one less hull to model, aye?

      • Meh, had I a few modelers available I’d do a kick ass men of war mod just to show them how it’s done.

        • If somehow you manage to do that MoW mod please notify me, I love that game.

          • I’m still in the learning phase, in the mean time you should keep checking men of war totaler krieg, it promises to be the ultimate historical mod for it.

        • GW Tiger P, GW E, VK7201, both VK4502, both E-50 guns, soon waffentrager Tiger and waffentrager E-100, sturmpanzers used as artillery and the list could go on…

    • And have SerB admitting he’s less than perfect?

Unthinkable! His ego would literally implode and destroy the Universe.

  5. - contrary to earlier reports, the new 0.8.6 shell distribution (AKA “increased accuracy”) DOES apply to arty also, the arty accuracy nerf was actually meant as a balance so that their accuracy remains the same

You want to tell me that there were people who believed that arty is gonna have e.g 0,92 accuracy(T92) and that it will have the same shells spread like in 8.5. What would be the point in playing T10 arty that will fire 4 times in battle and not hit any of the shots not even to do splash damage

    - King Tiger is “too small” for the superheavy spall liner

Maybe they should make it bigger, if possible to historical accuracy and then give it heavy spall liner

    - British and German tanks won’t recieve any buff to compensate for the fact that now ALL the tanks are reasonably accurate and not just them

Can we at least stop calling Germans “snipers” then and cite accuracy as their advantage.

    - if you hit enemy tracks and recieve “that one bounced” damage, even though you detracked the enemy, it’s not a bug, it means that the shell didn’t penetrate the armor behind the tracks

Isn’t it easier to make a critical hit sound(comment) in that case than confusing people even more like in patches before where the dumb commander would shout “Enemy is hit” when you did nothing.

    - realistic sounds like in Gnomefather’s mod? “We need time to implement such stuff, so we can do it in good quality”

How much time do they need for stuff that one guy who is not even their employer do in 1-2 days after the patch is out.

“We have a game (a game, not a simulator) based on historical basis. We decide, where the basis ends and the game begins. Yes, whenever we want and however we want.”

We already knew this. They use historical accuracy argument when it suits them and “it’s not a simulator” when people demand historical accuracy.

    • “How much time do they need for stuff that one guy who is not even their employer do in 1-2 days after the patch is out.”

Gnomefather and all the other so-called HR sound mods already use premade sounds from other games/game mods- so most of the work is already done by the time they make the sound mod- and it presents some copyright issues. Did you even read where Gnomefather got his sounds for the HR sound mod?

if you had been looking around you will see that WG has been recording actual vehicles, that means they are starting from scratch and building up their own soundbank that will not be subject to copyright issues as well.

    • Nerf this, nerf that. At one point whey will whine about overpowered AMX 40 being main damage dealers, scouts and tanks, equipped with already nerfed BB airguns…

  6. My question with the roaming is how the weekend specials will work? Will you get the special of your home region or the region you are visiting? Given how some regions get better specials than others on some weekends, there might be alot of region hopping for that.

  7. “- during the announced big rework of game models, both tanks and other objects (houses etc.) will be reworked, but not necesserily at the same time.”

And when might this “big rework of game models” take place?

  8. “- contrary to earlier reports, the new 0.8.6 shell distribution (AKA “increased accuracy”) DOES apply to arty also, the arty accuracy nerf was actually meant as a balance so that their accuracy remains the same”
wasnt that said from the first day on and Eu just failed at translating it?

  9. Serb: “My mom forgot to put brain in my head.”
    Players: “How terrible…”

  10. “- contrary to earlier reports, the new 0.8.6 shell distribution (AKA “increased accuracy”) DOES apply to arty also, the arty accuracy nerf was actually meant as a balance so that their accuracy remains the same”

    I KNEW IT.

  11. Question: how are there so many “dev” update talks but actually only 1% is being developed per patch?
these daily updates are getting ridiculous, the scam continues… keep them on their toes…

  12. >> so far, Storm thinks the accuracy wasn’t overbuffed, but he will keep an eye on statistics

It was. Tier 1 autocannons are now fearsome from every range…

    >> shell distribution within the aim circle IS dependent on the gun accuracy. A gun with 0.33 accuracy will have more shells flying straight to the center than a 0.4 gun.

DAFUQ? I thought that 0.33 has smaller circle and distribution is the same for every circle, dynamic in time. There’s sth. weird here… Maybe in translation, it is meant for full aim comparison only?

    >>contrary to earlier reports, the new 0.8.6 shell distribution (AKA “increased accuracy”) DOES apply to arty also, the arty accuracy nerf was actually meant as a balance so that their accuracy remains the same

I think now they are trying to wiggle out of overnerfing, either by making community believe them and be less displeased or even silently changing said distribution on liveserver. Call me a paranoid…

  13. “- so far, Storm thinks the accuracy wasn’t overbuffed,”

A slight indication that something might be wrong indeed should be the fact that the forums are full of complains by players whose tanks actually BENEFIT from that overbuffing.
    Like mine for example:
10 games with BL10@ISU in a row, 95% hitrate 5k avg. damage, hitting tanks even shooting on the move.
    Point&Click.
    That don’t feel right somehow.

    • Well actually it gets away from arcade and goes more towards realism. Something a lot of people complained about, that the game is too arcade. I myself was gunner on a Leopard 2A4, and I had a hit rate of 97,5% at 2000/10, that means 2000 meters and a 10cm! target in diameter. Those 97,5% where after around 200 shots. At a normal wot range of let’s say 350 meters a gun should hit within a max 2cm radius of where you aimed. So I’m fine with the change, finally the shells fly where you actually aim at.

      • People just don’t realize that tank guns are damm accurate, even at long range.

  14. “it’s possible to delete the content of X:\Games\World of Tanks\Updates folder safely, those are just old files”

the first time I tried to play a test server I noticed how much free disk space the game used and when I checked every folder inside the game client folder I noticed that most of that space was used by the updates folder

I tried to delete that folder and after that the game was still working and since then I delete every old update every time a new one is released, if the game had stopped working I would only need to download the game client and install it again

  15. Obviously they dont know anything about ‘normalisation’.
Alone the fact that they give constant normalisation values for the shells is somewhat redicilous.
