Panther Project – Introduction and Competition!

Hello everyone,

after quite some time, we’re going to have a competition. That’s right – and this time, I really have something cool for you, courtesy of the British guys from the Research Squad (Panther Project), specifically Mr.Brian Balkwill. Something about them first then.

You can find those guys on their website:

http://www.theresearchsquad.com/

As they describe themselves:

We are a group who share a common passion towards the preservation and restoration of historical items of interest. Our aim is to professionally document, research and publish studies on significant subjects in a variety of media, for the wider public to enjoy.
In addition to the books we publish, this site will contain large amounts of information in the way of galleries, drawings, diagrams and research projects for free use of wider communities.
To this end we are also currently working in close co-operation with The Wheatcroft Collection, a privately owned collection of some 200 plus major military and civilian items. Our intention is to publish a series of books on important items within the collection, whilst also working with the collection to raise its public profile via its website.

In short, they take things apart and document them and one of those “things” is the mighty Panther. You see, these guys made this wonderful thing:

Unboxing the Italeri Ferdinand

Source: http://www.dom1n.com/newsy/ferdinand-italeri-unboxing/

Hello everyone,

as you might remember, model kit making company Italeri launched recently a cooperation with Wargaming, introducing some of the vehicles, that can be found in the game, as special edition kits with various accessories. Dom1n managed to get his hands on the Ferdinand kit and here’s how it looks inside the box. The kit itself consists of two main parts – the hull and the superstructure. Those are already fitted together apparently.

Tank Made Out of Shells

Thanks to Ugly_Joe for this one

Source: http://simplepimple.com/2013/11/artist-builds-chinese-tank-using-only-empty-bullet-shells-10-pictures/

Hello everyone,

the following pictures show a model of the Chinese ZTZ-99, made entirely of spent shells and casings (in total over 48 thousand). The model weighs 6,5 tons. It’s currently on display in China’s Museum of Industry in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province.

That must have taken a LONG time to make…

Realities

Hello everyone,

the following picture was posted on Yuri Pasholok’s blog. I do think that it’s very… self explanatory. The post was called “realities” (in the sense of “how it really is”) – I think it’s very realistic depiction of the current state…

M3 Grant “Leak”

Thanks to (just like the previous screenshots) J.Saunders for this one.

Hello everyone,

yesterday, I posted tankopedia screenies with some of then vehicles, that were developed a long time ago. Here’s one more. It’s a vehicle, that will very likely appear on tier 4 of the “Firefly” branch – it’s the M3 Grant.

Keep in mind that these stats belong to a vehicle, that wasn’t even supertested and was developed years ago.

- Storm states now that the HD textures option in the launcher is missing intentionally (HD textures have to be installed manually), because “many people will leave it enabled ‘just so’ and not because they actually need it” – he adds that the reason for this is saving traffic and also preventing FPS loss on computers with low amount of GPU memory
- about Wargaming having hidden parameters in the game and officially disclosing them: “Let me say it simply – noone needs that. It wouldn’t make the game more interesting for anyone, apart from a few bean counters, it would only introduce complications in understanding the game.”
- if you quit a 9.3 replay early and you will see the “commissar” screen about leaving the battle, you won’t get any punishment for that, because when watching replays, there isn’t even a connection with the server
- Storm states that some players have predispositions to certain vehicles and for example can suck on vehicles, that are considered good and vice versa
- Storm states that the idea to let players re-buy once-purchased and sold premium tanks back for credits didn’t move anywhere for now
- IS-8 won’t be buffed

Patch 9.3 Is Here

Hello everyone,

some slowpoke news – as you might have noticed, patch 9.3 is here! A weird thing – maybe I am blind, but I can’t see any mention of the HD textures anywhere, so just keep in mind – for maximum quality, you have to download them separately (see previous posts on FTR). Much stronk.

If your launcher throws errors, try restarting it several times, helped for me. Now I am downloading the patch normally. Also, as for the “forums down”, some stronk haxor group claimed they “shot down” WG EU server or whatever, but it was likely just some kid making fake claims.

So – enjoy!

Fast and Furious: Libya Drift

Thanks to mbd for this one.

Hello everyone,

as you probably know, after the fall of Qaddafi, Libya became locked in a state of perpetual civil war with several fractions fighting each other, Al Qaeda and IS got involved as well, it’s a mess. In any case, this is what happens when people, who are not regular army soldiers, get a hold of tanks. The drifting is nice though…
