Sorry for the lack of articles today, I am sick (barely finished this QA), hopefully tomorrow it’s better.

- War Thunder sounds being better than WoT 9.4 sounds? Storm: “There’s no ‘impact’, ‘density’ or ‘bass’ in their sounds.”
- for now, there is no ETA for “XP for tanking” (SS: keep in mind that it takes an entire patch cycle just to collect proper data, so it’s possible that it won’t appear in 9.5 either)
- Storm states that the new sounds will not come for everyone, but as a downloadable mod pack, the way ultra HD textures were in 9.3, this mod will come in 9.4
- it is confirmed that no other server than ASIA will get a Type 59 on sale (thanks to Not_Me for this info), EU will apparently get some other exclusive tank on sale in December

    • They should hire modders like GnomeFather to make these sounds. Everytime they try it, it is good only a half ( <90mm guns). Maybe in future it will change, but for now high caliber sounds are crap.

        • Got the brand new overhauled 3.0 gun sounds from him. I think he nailed it. He didn’t go for big distorted Holywood KABOOOM but it still sounds beefier than any junk WG can throw at us. Some guns sound better, some worse but overall I love it and that’s just a free mod. Now paid WG employees with professional equipment can’t come up with something like that that’s more polished ? Please.

      • Gnomefather? Please, I know some of his sounds can be found in old mods such as Forgotten Hope Secret Weapons and mods such as Forgotten Hope 2 and I even recall listening to engine sounds from Project Reality. Go look it up.

      • Gnomefather doesnt make sounds. He just copied juicy sounds from various games and other sources and added them to the game. Shame that the high caliber guns have so crappy noise and distortion in his mods.

      • Get your shit finally right, gnome father copied some sounds, and he uses them for no profit mod. Its a no-go for wargaming. Also his sounds are with huge distortion, as a limit capacity of microphone. Also, seems like everyone expect low caliber guns to do “pow pow” and big guns to do “KABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM”. just because kv2 have 152mm gun doesn’t mean its shot is loud as hell – more likely the explosion of the shell is.
        Tl; Dr, looks like we have tons of experts in military who knows sound of every single gun. Go make your own sound mod then.

        • 1) I’ve heard firearms shooting live and they’re more impressive than that pop you hear from the 100+mm guns WG puts up
          2) Look at a tank firing on youtube or anywhere and compare that(rather weak 120mm on most tanks) gun to the cap gun sound you have in 9.4 and then come and whine.

          And just fyi, a 152mm howitzer on the KV2 would produce immense muzzleblast and a gigantic kaboom since the barrel is so short most propellant gases will ignite outside the barrel. Go look up some basic physics. Don’t need to be an expert to know you’re talkin crap.

    • Yeah..what the fuck does that shit mean. Question is does it sound good for a game, dont care is it has reverse lyrics and unicorns in it.

      • The E50M sounds like a “cap gun”, LOL, but i have complained in the past all the BOOMS were a bit much esp for an ammo rack.

      • The problem with that is that even high end audio recirding equipment has problems with sounds over a certain volume, and almost every gun in the game over 37mm exceeds that threshold. You need highly specialized equipment to record true-to-life gun sounds, and what’s more, it’s going to be incredibly difficult to find anything that replicates the noise any gun 170 calibers or bigger.

        • That’s why there are EDITING SOFTWARES. Of course even a professional microphone can have problems recording big guns. But that’s where sound designers comes in for help. To edit and make it sound pleasant powerful and awesome.

          A talented sound team will overcome any obstacle (DICE sound designers for example). But WG simply cannot think past their vodka. There is a reason we dont see a sound director doing a ASAP video. Probably because there isnt one.

          These sounds are prob recorded by a 3D artist with his iphone while taking a shit in the bathroom. Do these idiots even play Company of Heroes 2? how many of you know if the T-34′s or ISU or IS gun sounds are real? you dont. But they sound fantastic. COH2 gun sounds alone have more quality in them than WoT’s entire shit mediocre sound engine.

          My house trembles when ISU-152 is firing in CoH2. And the sound is simply beautiful with no distortions. That is quality EDITING by a team of professionals.

    lol, wut? it’s the main problem of new sounds, they lack everything; impact, density, bass… zero effect

    • No, you just can’t listen. I love the new 152 derp sound, because such a gun doesn’t make a lot of noise just because it’s a big caliber. What I noticed was that after the “pop” there’s lots of very loud echo, simulating frequencies you can’t even hear. And the explosion of the shell is much louder than the firing of the gun.

      • problem is…..WoT shell explosion sound is not louder than the current cannon. i honestly cant tel the diffrence between getting shot by AP or by KV2′s 152mm other than the latter HURTS.

      I really do hope that it is something rare like a PzIV Hydro or PzV/IV (Yes, i know, they aren’t that good, i just want one for the hell of it.)

        WG promised it as Razer mouse exclusive, so if it is Pz IV Hydro, then they lied about it to be exclusive.

        Oh wait… they said that the KV-220 would be “one time offer”, and we all know how that ended up… So they have lied before… :P

        Instead I hope it is Pz II J, or the Pz V/IV. German tanks all the way! =)

        But most likely it will be the type 62… Blergh…

      • Few things – gold ammo and power creeps that makes KV-5 epic pile of rust.
        Oh and with new perks – gg sixth sense.
        Should buff to historical pen that gun.

        • Gold ammo and new tanks didn’t ruin KV 5, +/- 2 mm did, back when it was released the tank was almost invincible due to the fact that it had 2 MAYBE 3 tanks at most of t8 as enemies, it would only have T5-7s to shoot at or be shot from.

        • The power creep didn’t change the fact the KV-5 has the most HP of all tier 8s and the most DPM of all tier 8 heavies too.

          • Yeah, but DPM is pretty useless if a derp-IS-3 drives straight against you with it’s ultra bouncy armor and penetrates you at your gun mantlet with autoaim.
            Even Tier 8 Mediums will devastate you in some situations without circling you.

            I have it (~1200 battles on it). Wasn’t driving it for a long time and done some battles yesterday. Crap tank with all those tier 8 TDs out there who can penetrate many tier 10 tanks with autoaim and goldammo. Makes no sense to drive it, but hey….”KV5 is doing fine statistically”

            • You really shouldnt have a problem with enemy IS-3s in 1vs1. if the “derp IS-3″ drives straight against you, do the same for the ramdamage. then just push it and place one shot after another in his (paper) upper turret plate which is right in front of your gun. You’ll allways win with the higher dpm and hp pool. the only tier 8s KV-5 will struggle to damage are KV-4 and.. um… idk maybe t28 (both).
              “Even Tier 8 Mediums will devastate you in some situations without circling you.” No. Just no. not even a Type 59 is a serious threat for a good KV-5 as long as he doesnt circle you.
              …aaaaand “KV-5 is doing fine statistically” because most of the people who drive it are quite good. Of course, directly after WG put the KV-5 in the shop (like last aniversary) many tomatoes bought it. But because they had no idea how to play it they either sold it (lol), play it once in a while and still suck, or they let it in their garage till they become better and finally get how to play it effectively (like me).
              KV-5 stronk tenk made of 110% Stalinum. No buff needed for this one (ok of course I would appreciate a pen-buff but its just not needed with pmm).

              • What he said. The fact you (CN1994) use an IS-3 charging you as an example just makes it seem like you don’t know what you’re talking about or how to play the tank at all. An IS-3 holding it’s distance.. now that’s dangerous but not a lost cause either. I own most of the tier 8 premiums and the KV-5 holds the highest win rate for me and an average exp of just over 1000. It’s great when played well, rakes in plenty of cash and trains crews well.

              • Love my KV5 – am tomato. Got to accept that sometimes your screwed from the get go but i always try to drive it like a boss and blow shit up and my win rate increases – would love a pen buff because if you run into Jag 8.8, T28 , IS 6 or KV4 you are screwed (even a Sherman jumbo or AT15 can cause some grief)

              • Since KV-5 is a premium tank, it should earn money, so now describe same situation of KV-5 without gold ammo versus Tiger II.

                KV-5 was tricky before latest power creep and flood of gold ammo. Now is a crap, unless matched against tier VI tanks.

                Now every noob will simply switch to gold ammo and penetrate with every shot.

                • The fact that it is a premium does not go hand in hand with making money. Premium tanks get a buff to credit gains and are statistically worse than other tanks of the tier. They are crew trainers, in todays WoT, the fact that they make extra money directly offsets the fact that you need to spend more money shooting gold rounds to make the crew experience gains worth it.

                  If you remember back in the day when premium tanks were first introduced, gold rounds were bought with none other than cash, no silver like it is today. So WG had a gold mine on their hands, players pay cash for the tank to get a crew trainer, get the added benefit of earning additional silver (since you did not have to offset the cost of “Gold” ammo for silver now a day) and WG made cash by the player buying gold rounds, well, for cash.

                  If you want to make silver in your premium tanks, start shooting gold rounds for actual gold and watch as your wallet empties and your silver bank increases. If you are not willing to do that, then don’t ever complain about a premium shooting gold and not making money.

    • i already have a kv-5. i dont see the m6a2e1 being put on sale or the mtls 1g14 or the pz 2j.

      but i could see the bt-sv (its not on the same level of op as the pz 2j) or the pz 38h or the m4a2e4 or the t-34-85m or the t23e3 other than those i dont know what else they could bring out.

      • Clearly your perspective is skewed. NA gets a lot of specials but they’re never as good as what the other servers get. Free Tog for EU – same effort gets NA players some cases of cola and chocolate.

        • you realize that NA got free premium tanks with mission on most of the top of the tree events that non of the other server got?

          • Are you aware of what those “free premiums” required? In a 30 day month, you have to earn 25k xp on 25 of those days. Now, that might not be so bad if you have 25 tanks in the category required, but mostly, those were lofty, unattainable goals for the vast majority of players on the server. Have a job? not gonna happen. On weekends, I might hit 25k experience before burning out on playing, but never during the week – there isn’t time. If the specials had similar requirements to the Togtober mission, it would be different. Just because there’s a free tank offered doesn’t mean everyone has a chance. They might as well offer infinite gold for a 100k xp day every day. Your point is moot. Stop whining.

            • Ok, so you leave out the free tank. What else do you get?

              NA: bonus items every 25k XP on the way to the free tank. That’s XP you’d be grinding anyway, and can be done in any vehicle in that line.

              Tiers 2-5: 50% discount.
              Tiers 6-7: 30% discount
              Tiers 8-10: 30% discount, 15% bonus income.

              Place in the Top 10 for XP in one of the On Track vehicles? x2 crew XP.

              So wherever you’re up to on that line, you get discounts on your next tank and bonus items.

              What does EU get?

              Tiers 8-10: 30% discount, 15% bonus income.

              Not currently got a minimum of a nearly-finished Tier 7 on that line? Too bad, no special for you.

              Last mission for a tier 8 premium:

              NA: T34
              EU: Super Pershing.

      We get plenty of shit. From what I’ve seen, the servers are give and take. Just deal with it, we’re not bottom dog in this regard. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it (And certainly don’t complain).

      The Type is not OP anymore. The reason it would still be so popular is that its fun to drive. Give us a fun tank to drive!

    • PzII J may be OP against rookies but I don’t think too many bad things would happen if it ws on sale.
      Even if we had floods of them, the impact it would have, whatever it could be, would be limited to low tiers. Besides, only real collectors or die hard seal clubbers would buy one. Most players are not interested in low tiers, especially if they cost a lot, and I bet it will be 50 or 100 euro offer, with a ton of extras forced on the buyer.

      … that said, I’d get me one if I could ;P

  15. The WoT sounds (new or old) don’t even hold a candle to the War Thunder sounds. I mean, when you fire the cannon of the tiger in War Thunder for example, you REALLY get the feeling that its a big powerful cannon, and It feels really good to shoot it. Also, the KV-2 in WT, it makes you smile every time you pull the trigger. THAT is the effect that good sounds has on a game like this. Get it together WarGaming.

    On another note, I always use Gnomefathers sounds, which are volumes better than the Wargaming sounds, but they are still not as good as the WT sounds (even though GF takes some WT sounds and uses them in his pack) Well done GnomeFather.

    • I always had the problem with the mod sounds because of how bad they were. Sure they went boom, but many were recorded off youtube, lots of audio artefacts, no proper normalisation, and it was all too loud in general.
      Maybe it’s better now, I have no idea, but WG sounds are of much higher quality.
      But yeah, WT gun sounds are the best “holywood” sounds by far.

    • yeah, pretty much this.. I dont care these farts are realistic, it sounds stupid, and its not fun, it takes away the atmosphere for me…

      I’ve grinded E-100 only because of the gun sound. Literally…As soon as I met first E-100 on abttlefield, I was like “I HAVE TO GET THIS!”

      Sound is unrealistic ? maybe, but hell its scary :D

    • nah wargaming know the german med players have been waiting for a decent crew trainer for a long time so i dont think they would make that a limited edition tank because that could piss a lot of people off.

        And remember what happened with KV-220 – there’ll never be any VERY-MEGA-LIMITED-ONE-TIME-ONLY offers, so if they would sell 88 panther, then not only once…

    - developers are now strongly discouraged from mentioning War Thunder and comparing it to WoT and encouraged to focus on their own game design instead.

    Bring us the engine sounds WG! These were amazing… Nobody is interested in your “realistic fart sounds”… it’s a game after all.. I enjoy hollywood sounds :)

  25. Well, if the Type 59 is only going to SEA, I guess I’ll have to play my SEA account more often.

    I’m not excited by nebulous announcements about exclusive tanks, after all last year’s big thing was the KV-220. It is a pretty fun tank to play from time to time, but it didn’t “knock my socks off”.

      I doubt it could be 220, it has been already 3(?) times on sale this year.

  31. My bet on the rare tank that will go for sale is a few options. 1: The B2 german heavy tank. 2. The KV-5 3. The Tetrarch 4. KV-220 5. M3 light tank, though the small tanks will be part of a big bungle.

  36. So why does the Asia server get access to the type59 and the EU and NA servers do not …. it seems that they are catering to a Select area of the world to make them happy

    also why doesnt WG fix the Dam ping imbalances and packet loss on the NA servers … its getting annoying trying to play on US East when my avg ping is 140-160 each time with a 4-6 second shot delay from firing to hitting the target.,….. I have to do all my missions on US west just to be able to hit anything … which is okay because i live on the west coast but the majority of my clan is east coast based

    Yeah sure right keep denying how terrible the gun sounds are in WoT and justify WG’s freaking laziness to hire professional sound engineers. How come a far smaller company like Relic was able to produce far superior sounding tanks for CoH2 than WG!
