Hello everyone,

Anton “Evilly” Pankov (WoT producer, which means not just random community guy) is asking players a bunch of questions, let’s help him out a bit! In case you are interested in answering – go ahead. Offtopic, trolling and profanities will be deleted (and punished by RO), so please be reasonable. You wanted a say in WoT development? Well, now he’s listening.

1) What do you think is wrong in current random battles? (Evilly: no skill MM) Anything missing?

    Map balance. Give smaller bushes in dangerous areas for LTs, but not TDs to passive spot in.

    Grinding to tanks I like while keeping my WN8 and WR high. If I know there is a tank that plays especially bad for WN8 in terms of average or my skill in said tank, I will avoid it more often.

    3) What do you think about garage battles in random and garage battles in general? (on tier 10 for example) – if you like it, why? Aren’t you afraid of leavers?
    As long as the game doesn’t turn into a one side roflstomp across a garage battle for teams, as they will just get to farm 3 tanks worth of teams, it’s fine.

    4) What do you think of a FFA (free for all, deathmatch – not duel) mode? On tier 8,9,10
    This game was not made to FFA. Tanks have different roles they provide on a battlefield, what’s the point of doing it on your own? What is arty going to do in FFA? Everyone might just hide and camp and wait until there are 2 left, then “win”.

    5) What do you think of a team PvP Battleground mode with checkpoints (MOBA without AI)
    Give it a try like all the other modes you’ve been introducing. I won’t mind it.

    6) What mode (solo or platoon, not requiring teams) is according to you the most suitable for tanks?
    An unclear question to me, but I’d take it that the Chaffee rally mode was quite fun.

    7) If you want to, make a proposition for your own mode for random battles (like assault, encounter etc.)
    No new modes really required for me, but I’d like the maps to be a bit more balanced against rushes like Malinovka South. Also, waiting for the LTs to be further buffed.

    • 1) As it was mentioned, maps. They put LTs and MTs at huge disadvantage, helping tomatoes in HTs achieve something. Together with the map changes, skill floor rose and skill ceiling fell. Combine it with 25% RNG that allows baddies to defeat more skilled opponents just by sheer luck and the difference between bad and good players decreases even more.

      2) Improving my performance, getting better stats, unlocking new tanks and getting grasp of them.

      3) Garage battles seem quite nice. Even if RNG screws you over once, you still can make up for it. Leavers? I don’t think many people will leave, especially on tier X – that would mean a huge stat and credit loss, and most tier X players have enough wit to understand it..

      4) Could work in an FPS game, but not in WoT I think. All tanks have a set of specific features, some will just stand no chance in deathmatch mode, while some will be blatantly OP. And maps – you can get a huge advantage if you happen to spawn in a good location. Too random and tank-dependent IMHO.

      5) Yes, please. Standard random games tend to get boring quite fast and I will gladly welcome any match type with interesting mechanics.

      6) I’d like to see a big-scale mode with some objectives to complete. Like battlegrounds in WoW. You have infinte lives, but every time you die you are returned to spawn point and have to wait half a minute. To win, you have to meet certain conditions, not eliminate all enemies.

      * Capture the flag
      – the objective is to bring enemy’s flag from their base to yours a number of times (e.g. 3 or 5)
      – the flag is dropped upon death and can be either picked by another player or reset by enemy.

      * Victory points & bases
      – there is a number (e.g. 5) of points of interest on the battlefield
      – they can be capped if they are uncontested or belong to the enemy
      – each controlled point of interest gives some victory points every second
      – the first team to gain X victory points wins.

      * Reach the enemy base
      – requires a huge map
      – clear division of territory, e.g. north belongs to team A and south belongs to team B
      – each team has a special object in their base which has a lot of HP and can be damaged
      – the first team to destroy their enemy’s object wins
      – the objects are well-protected and deep into enemy territory
      – there are cappable respawn points
      – when a player dies, he respawns in 30 seconds at the nearest respawn point
      – each team has a lesser object that is closer to the middle of the map, it grants 10% HP buff to the whole team, but can be destroyed and upon destruction the buff is removed
      – there’s a lot of resource crates scattered around the map, you also get resources for every enemy you kill
      – resources can be exchanged at the base for team-wide bonus to health points, damage, penetration or horsepower
      – a number of facilities that can be capped and give some tactical points every second
      – tactical points can be exchanged at the base for aerial strikes, spotting all enemy tanks in chosen small region, summoning AI-controlled reinforcements and other things of this kind
      – radio towers that can be capped, they spot enemies (450 view range) and have a 1000 meter radio range
      – ammo storage points which can be used to fill missing ammo
      – light tanks discover enemy positions, gather resources and may try to blitz-cap important facilities, medium tanks brawl, flank and fight for facilities, heavy tanks spearhead the attack and brawl, TDs either defend or support attack from behind, SPGs support their friends

      7) Not really, but some other things:
      – once you change a tank significantly, add separate counter for post-change statistics – this will allow player skill to be measured more accurately;
      – reduce RNG (you say you won’t, but most probably you will have to due to pressure from good players) – more skill, less luck;
      – add an option for LTs to opt out from Himmelsdorf and other city maps, they are already screwed enough;
      – arty is intended to be an anti-camper measure, not active gameplay punishment, decrease its aiming time but increase the reticle bloom spread after any reticle movement and decrease splash – voila, arty has easier time hitting bushtankers but harder time hitting/crippling moving targets.

      Stop 3 player platoons. Seal clubbers drop to KV-1′s and smash new players just to stat pad!

      Have 2 player platoons in tier 1 – 8 and 3 player platoons in tier 9 + 10, that would be fairer because training for CW and would need skill to dominate T9 players (mostly!?).

      • Leave 3 man platoons out of the conversation. They are punished enough. Lately, and I mean since 9.0, when you suit up for a 3manplatoon, you can expect to sit on the bottom for the session. 2 days ago out of 25 battles 17 were as bottom tiers (have all the replays and screenshots). When one of our platoonmates had enough, he left, 5 games in a row top tiers.
        There is random in random, but not as much random as a random could ask for.

      Overall not to bad, unbalanced skill based teams is evened out over time. Could work on better tank balance per side, not just by tier but by type. For example one team getting 6-8 TDs and the other team 2-3.

      While I like the idea, my biggest concern is unbalanced teams skill wise. I have no desire so suffer with a team of tomatoes three times in a row. Add in AFKers, load and leavers and you have a receipt for problems. Maybe something along the lines of Tank Companies and garage battles, now you have true team play, you’re not getting BOTs and AFKers and you end up with skill balanced teams.

      4) What do you think of a FFA (free for all, deathmatch – not duel) mode? On tier 8,9,10

      It could be fun.

      6) What mode (solo or platoon, not requiring teams) is according to you the most suitable for tanks?
      I solo pub mostly, I do enjoy platooning but I cringe every time I see a high tier tomato platoon, this is not going to end well. Also platoons needs to be appropriate tier balanced.

      7) If you want to, make a proposition for your own mode for random battles
      I like the idea of escort or objectives capture and other military style modes. Leave the capture the flag and other silly modes to kiddy games.

      On my opinion, there should be more open field maps. The maprotation is also crappy. There are some maps like Ruinberg or Himmelsdorf, which are coming very often, but maps like malinovka are very rare. Also enlarge the map seize, some of the maps are too small (Keyword:mobile warfare, not facehugging all the time)
      Missing things: MINES!!! What belongs more together then tanks and mines. Implement some mine barriers incl. breaches but with fix locations of the barriers on the map and random spawn of the mines within the barrier. The ability to see this breaches can you tie either to a tank class (scouts maybe) or to a crewmans trait. Imho mines woud be a great idea on open field maps. If you decide for a random spawn of the barriers, it would have the effect that ppl. are not using the same ways all the time, i would make the gameplay more dynamic and teamplay would benefit of it. Maybe you think about the idea of Mine layer Tanks too. ^^

  2. 1) the Unbalanced battles where a team gets more top tiers or more heavies which makes them more able to push in flanks .
    2)I have stopped grinfing much and focused on missions lately , so its missions
    3)garage battles isnt something that i’m intrested in or waiting for

  3. 1) MM sometimes gives a team more tanks of certain tier and that really fucks up the gameplay. Platoon MM adds to that sometimes and fail platoons makes it awful. Not sure if that’s directly MM’s fault thou.
    2) Winning ! Charlie Sheen style ! OFC, missions are nice bonus to that.
    3) Not sure how a person with 15xT10s will compare to a guy with 2xT10s, but I’d like to try it.
    4) Sounds like a piece of shit.
    5) Armored Warfare copy much ? No thanks !
    6) PvE Historical battles gonna be a blast, if done right, IMHO. Randoms can get really frustrating to play sometimes and we need an escape from this situation.
    7) Bring back Karl ! Oh, and the Football ! And perhaps the Chaffee Races, but just replace the two ammo types with HE only.

  4. mm is crappy , in some maps enemy team gets a bunch of mendiums and they can easilly take some important spots like hills on mine or karelia and there is no way to win that match , for example they get 3 bat chats and 2 objects 140 and other team gets 2 tier 8 mediums and bunch of tds. Also there should not be skill MM but during team completition mm should balance good players on both teams , last few days i had several games in row with 30-40 % win chance , i am blue player but literary all players in my team were orange or red , not a single green player with me , what is more concerning is that it was on tiers 8-10. Also mathches with 3-5 artys suck so much , they are so boring and impossible to play especially on prokhorovka. New reworked maps (northwest) have too many attack lines , tanks get too scattered on map , sometimes you cannot see any action at all.

  5. 1) Tier 9,10 are completely unbalanced (im a new player but having a good influence on a high tier game is really hard to practically impossible. Epic wins or looses (15-1/2 or similar) happen too often, so for me playing in these random battles is a pain. Only reason i do it is to get the tanks. But the level of fun compared to low-tier games is abysmal.
    2)Grinding to most if not all the important tanks thru history ( i own a pz 2 next to a tiger 2 next to a h35 next to a t34 and so on) Invented tanks are of no interest to me…

    4)Tier 8,9 and 10 are pain in the arse so i dont care

    7)National battles (i think the player base is large enough to make it work)

    All in all after playing for 9 months and cca7k battles i still love the game. The fun up untill tier 8 makes up for the lameness of t9-10 games imo

  6. 1: Random battles is fine except when I play stock tanks for example ARL V39 it has tier 3 gun but mm makes me go into tier 8 games where I am very useless. I am bad for the team as I am wasting a slot and I am bad for my self as I can do nothing even with premium ammo. I +1/-1 mm for CERTAIN stock tanks around tier 5-7. Also i would like a return of national Battles , I loved them.

    2. My goal in Random battles is grinding British , Russian and Chineese tanks, I have fun In team battles with my clan and friends.

    4. FFA would be amazing yes I am all for that. Or ,maybe a FFA platoons. MM sets up platoons of 3 against each other. So say 3-6 platoons on a map. And you only have your Platoon against all the other Platoons. it could be a game Mode like Team battles but for tiers 7 and 9.

    7. Escort – One team gets say a special truck(s) or tank(s) that they must escort to a location. The other team must either try to destroy all the cargo s or destroy the enemy tanks in the time of 10 mins before the cargo reaches its destination.

    7B – Another mode could be Capture the Flag , where 3 flags are at a location on the map. each team has a base and they must Bring the Flags to their base. First team to kill all enemies or capture 2 Flags wins. Would encourage attacking , flanking but also defending.

    • 1) Isn’t that why we use free xp sometimes though? Once you have the tracks you can mount the 105/90mm guns.

    3 Could be fun, but you need a lot of tanks for that, so not for everyone (maybe good)

  8. 1. Really not too much other than the arty two~three-hit happen to me (even on something like a 110 hit by a Tier 6 arty)

    3. Garage is not really the type of gameplay I am looking for, by two reasons. First, I do not have a lot of high tier tank. Second, if the game develop really bad or camping I will force to have another respawn right?

  10. 1) the problem is the match up with type of tanks. 7 heavies to 3, or 6 TD’s against 2. And 2 tier 5 spg’s don’t equal 1 tier 7 . Forget skill just sort out equal tank types. Why have 3 spg’s on a team and 1 light when the other team has 3 light tanks.
    2) random’s are used to farm missions, and to platoon with friends. And is the main used mode for me as skirmishes and team battles are for pro players so they are a waste of time for average and below average players.
    3) why should only players with tier 10 tanks have garage battles. Why not from tier 5
    4) again why do you have to be high tier for death matches. ( introduce it for lower tiers and you might get more players sticking with the game)

  11. 1) Not missing a full skill-based MM, but would like skill-balanced platoons. For example platoons of unicums being matched against platoons of unicums in similarely strong vehicles.

    Also, corridor-maps. Give us more areas to be sneaky and flank without being insta-spotted.
    2) Grinding, and of course having fun in the process.
    3) Not a huge fan. Prefer my WoT in small, but regular doses. There is only so much I can handle of inept teammates, premium-spammers and XVM-using arty in one sittin.
    4) Sounds like heaven for autoloaders, with even less effort made to effectively counter them.
    If they can balance it, sure!
    5) Like DotA? Please no.
    6) No opinion.

  12. 1) when one team gets far better players, despite the tier spread is equal. (but this probably falls under the ‘no skill MM’ stuff)
    2) grinding the tanks, doing missions, and just generally rolling out in any tank i like. you cant do that in 7/42, only 6-8 tier
    3) i havent seen garage battles, but as i seen it in another tank game (Tar Whunder) it might be interesting. paying for 3 t10 repair in a row isnt
    4) it would benefit the campers only, if you are seen by anything, you are dead. maybe some blueberry batchats, who team up to kill an e100. unlike in call of duty, where this mode works because FPS
    5) if it consists of random people.. doesnt sound good, you have to be lucky to see teamplay in randoms, and this mode needs it
    6) platoon i’d say, even if i run solo most of the time. a good platoon can make a huge difference

  13. 1) Really bad fail platoons. I don’t mind T6 w/ T7 that much. But a T10 with a T2 or T3 is too much. Also map balancing.
    2) Win. WN8. Depends on mission. I got the TOG but the IS-6 Xmas mission I couldn’t be too bothered.
    3) Not interested. I play WoT because the games are short, relatively. Having a leaver/disconnect would put your team down by 3 tanks.
    4) FFA is not a very good idea. The game is not balanced around a 1v1. Kemp bush stronk tektiks. Everyone will sit in a bush with Borsigs. Also an FFA has to be single tier only because anything else would be quite unfair.
    5) No.
    6) Platoons are more viable. Bad players are all too common even at high tiers nowadays. I can manage 70% occasionally on solo play on weekdays but usually its more like 55%. With platoons its most 65-75%.
    7) Instead of capping, the destruction of a particular “objective” or “objectives”, say a City Hall, Church, Mosque, Group of vehicles is required. Having more than one will spread the teams around more.

    2.: Having a fun time, with hopefully HUMAN players, and not bots. Also do the best I can to make progress in grinding.

  15. 1.What annoys me the most (apart from unbalanced teams) is the +/- 2 tier spread,especially for stock tanks. When I have all modules researched is somehow ok,but when I am using almost the same gun as a Cromwell to fight tier 10 tanks is just ridiculous.
    Also,in my opinion arty is completely unnecessary to this game,it doesn’t bring anything good,just annoys both the ones that get hit and the ones that use it since it’s sooo inaccurate and ineffective.

    2.Grinding,there are sooo many tanks that I want :)

    3.Garage battles,as in,multiple respawns with different tanks? I would really like it.I think it would bring diversity in gameplay and it would reduce the frustration of doing something stupid and ruining your hole battle,especially for light/medium tanks drivers.

    4/5/6. I don’t fully understand the questions so I can’t have an opinion.

    7. My personal fav. mode would be a “realistic”/”simulator” mod. I know the devs. already dismissed this idea but I still hope one day,after WoT reaches a stage where development is more or less finished devs. will try again to implement it.
    No HP,no spotting (all tanks are visible),on some special maps that re alrger than current ones,etc…

    PS: If anyone actually reads this,please implement the option to rebuy Premium tanks for credits,it’d be so helpful and one of the most awesome changes in the game,at least for me.

    - platoons are sometimes unequally balanced; unequal amount of same tiers – not rare that enemy or us have 1-3 extra top tiers.

  18. 1) There is too much randomness in random battles. Not only the randomness of the matchmaker discussed widely, but also in big guns, high clip damage and module damage. Big guns are terribly random, either hitting nothing and doing no damage, or killing you in one shot/shaving off most of your health (this includes both artillery and guns like on the JagdPanzer E-100 and the FV-183). High clip damage from guns like that tier 10 french artillery, the Waffen Träger auf E-100 and to some degree the T57 Heavy and the AMX 50b.
    Furthermore the module damage plays too big a role in. While it is skill for someone to aim for your engine or your ammo rack your game is basiclly ruined if you, at the start of the game is forced to use your repair kit, then get a damaged ammo rack at the next shot. Maybe reducing the impact (like the ammo rack effect giving you double the reload). This is especially present on tanks like the E-100 that has a massive reload, but when ammo racked has a reload almost equal to TWO clip refills of the T57 Heavy.
    While vehicles themselves are pretty balanced the risk/reward differs massively. An E-25 standing in the back not getting spotted has an infinite risk/reward (same goes for artillery, I think that is why it is receiving so much hate). Same with the WT auf E-100 compared to the T57 Heavy. With T57 you have to be in the front lines while with the WT you can simply pew pew all the way from the back making it very low risk compared to the reward.

    2) I play to have fun while feeling like I am achieving something by getting new vehicles or crew skills. I also play to improve my game play and skill (Current: 52,5% win, 1450 WN8 and 5,6k games played).

    3) While garage battles would be a fun factor I think the amount of resources and time it would take to balance it is not worth it.

    4) While FFA would be fun once in a while I think the amount of resources and time it would take to make and balance it would not be worth. It would be something that people played a couple of times and said: “Yeah, that was fun, now go let’s play WoT,”.

    5) I do not think the game is that kind of game. Maybe it could draw interest from new players, but the established player base I do not think would be drawn by that.

    6) I think the game is very much team oriented. Games like Battlefield 3 tried to introduce Deathmatch and it was not much of a success. If you absolute have to introduce something more “solo” the mode from Battlefield 3 called “Squad deathmatch” would be good. It includes 4 or 5 squads (platoons) with 4 players that play against eachother. Basically 4 teams with few players playing against each other. Would be a nightmare to balance though.

    7) I think the current random battles are good. Running with the same style only with somewhat “bigger” (not necessarily in size, but in the amount of “lanes” and different “rooms”) and 3 or 4 objectives that has to be held with a ticking amount of tickets (look at a game like Battlefield). Maybe, if you are so interested in introducing Garage Battles would be a way to go?

    Most random battles are too one sided and end too fast. Many battles are decided after just 2 or 3 minutes, which leaves no time for slow tanks to have any impact.

    Killing or damaging as many enemies as possible.

    Garage battles as endgame content are a good idea, if implemented in the right way. But this way has to allow for a comeback of the inferior team and make fighting to the very end worth it. If that’s the case there won’t be leavers.

    4) What do you think of a FFA (free for all, deathmatch – not duel) mode? On tier 8,9,10

    Probably not a good idea. A lot of tanks are dead meat without backup. Viable tanks will be very limited. It would also require completely new maps.

    Maybe combine this with garage battles on special maps.

    The standard mode is perfectly fine. Just make caping more difficult and longer, so it will be used only as a last resort or to draw out campers. The main goal should be killing the enemy.

    An “epic battle” mode would be nice, with more tanks on bigger maps.

  20. 1)Mostly the unbalanced MM that caused more and more 15:5 battles nowadays. Hardcap limits for vehicle type would be usefull for some of the map. (e.g. city maps not need 5-6TD)

    2)Farming mission as well as grinding or try new tanks.

    3)This game mode should cause we will have more unexperienced players than now.

  23. 1) Elective matchmaking would be nice. With the options of three tiers (as it is today), two tiers, and one tier only (with penalties in reduced xp and credits for the latter two). You choose it as preferential matchmaking, so there will be no need to split up the matchmaking (it will work as for example the tier IV Valentine premium tank, only that if you choose one tier only, you wont get any tanks in lower tiers on the teams). Those who chose a three tier game will not suffer any penalties if they are included in a game generated by one or more tanks who choosed a two or one tier game, penalties will be calculated based on the tier mode you chose.

    2) Have fun. But sometimes a bit of grinding, or doing a misson as well. But I only do missions I find fun.

    Otherwise I don’t really have any comments.

    We desperately need bigger maps.
    With more options, in my opinion options is what makes games interesting to play.
    Having a great variety of possible tactics and strategies mixes the gameplay up quite a bit.
    Have a look at the newly released Poland and Mozdok maps in WT.
    These maps offer a variety of possibilities for both close, mid and long range combat.
    Flanking and counter flanking, ambushing and hit&run attacks.
    That’s what WoT needs, too, atleast in my opinion.

    Note: I don’t want 2×2 km maps, those would be too big, but decently sized maps (1,3×1,3 for example) would still work quite well.

    And for those that argue that the Maus and T95 never get to the frontline in time anyway… that’s a team issue not a map issue. If you have slow tanks in your team you play accordingly and if you can’t, enjoy the loss I guess. :P

    Once upon a time it was to unlock all tanks, now that I’m playing less and less due to work and variety of games I play this goal has been dropped. (9 tanks to go)
    Surprisingly there are now only two goals left in randoms for me:
    - Fun
    - Winning

    I find the general idea interesting, however it will need to be implemented well otherwise it will end like confrontation or historical battles.
    How to do that… good question, it works well in WT, however WT uses a completely different core system to begin with.
    Since tanks are easily destroyed/disabled it makes more sense to give the player more chances to interact by giving him/her “extra lives”.
    I’m not sure if a similiar system would work in WoT, it’s possible that Garage Battles would require maps that are specifically adjusted to the mode’s needs.

    @Leavers: People who leave are the people who would suicide rush and write “Bad team” or “Fuck matchmaker” anyway, useless scum that I wouldn’t want to have in either team anyway, so no, I’m not afraid of useless people, they exist (sadly) but it’s not like anyone could re-educate them via the internet.

    and just kill enemies, or run straight for the objectives and forget about the shooting.
    I.e. the average player is not suitable for “complex”… modes.
    Atleast not without an ingame tutorial, heck some people would prolly need a GTA-esque gps system to lead them to where they should go…

    My own mode… a ticket mode similiar to the one in Battlefield.
    3+ cap points are on the map and as soon as one team holds more cap points the other team starts losing tickets.
    It’s an pretty old system, so not really my own mode, but something I would like to see in WoT.

    Gold ammo is bad for game health. I think it removes skill or weak spot knowledge from game, when you can just shoot gold. And it might also increase toxicity of the game. Because every time I kill someone for example with KV-5, I get massive rage about gold ammo, even though I don’t use it.

    About MM. Sometimes it just fails with top tiers. Other posts have good explanations about this.

    I also think that this game should have greater punishments for failing, and greater rewards for not failing. I mean that if you die for example at first minute, you could get -20% credit and exp income for that battle. Or if this is too small because you have no income what so ever you could get +20% to your repairs. And if you stay alive for the end of the battle, even if you do no or little damage but you are not afk, you could get +10% credit and exp income. That could make tomatoes to play better or at least put them try to play better. And would probably also end these “I’m gonna rush over Malinovka field, I will spot them for you” players. And this could probably be good to disable at tiers 1-4, so newbies won’t get punished for being newbies.

Why I like this idea is because I’m really impatient, and often want to try my luck again in same map against same opponents (and go kill who killed me to take revenge).

  26. 1) Maybe a thing to choose about 5 maps which you don’t want to play, and do not make clones of existing maps (fiery salient, I’m looking at you). Also I think there is a big gap between tier 5 and 6, in terms like life and damage. If you look at tier 5, they have less than 500 HP (of course there are some exceptions) and then there are tier 6 with 700-800 HP. Also tier 6 guns have tier 5s at 1,5 shots.

    2) Have fun, grind, win and getting better and better at the game.

    3) On tier 10, it would be very long, take for example that two people take Maus. Then you have to defeat the Maus 2×3 times, it could be easier if they are bad players, but if they play it right, it would take forever. It would be better to introduce it for tier 8. Or tier 7, I think there are some good tanks, but there is no love for them (in terms like dedicated game mode – you have companies, team battles, strongholds for T8, so why not get something for tier 7?)

    4) Depends on how many players would be in one match. If there were 4-6 players it would be okay, but I’m afraid that it would be very hard to play some tanks (especially support tanks or autoloaders). I really don’t see that I would play it regularly (of course I would try it first, but I am sceptical about this.)

    5) I don’t know exactly what is meant by this, but I don’t see any way how to do it in WoT. Does it mean something like “we need to capture this part of land to gain more points”?

    Random battles might be improved upon by better balancing the number of mediums and heavies on each side. Some games are decided before the timer has finished simply because the composition of one team is vastly better for that map. A city map where one team has 10 heavies and the other team none, is going to end in a landslide victory for the heavy team. Heavies and meds should be balanced like arty and light tanks: roughly the same number on each side.

    Winning the game. Everything else is of secondary importance.

    Domination. Like the normal mode, you have two capture points, but you need to control both in order to win.

    Arty is wrong, i know old one. But since i am getting hit so often when driving lights or meds, and am NOT camping but running around at 70 kph or pushing somewhere i would like if arty was like in WT. NO one-shot-one-dead cannons but something that reduces camping effectivly. Current version of arty does not do this job, since you dont get shot at when unspotted. (which is unlikely because arty shoots the light tanks because they can see them, so the lights cant spot)
    Another point: The maps, or some maps. You have new light tanks. please tell me what i do with them on maps like sacred valley. big map, but no open spaces. and a camping td with camo net and binos will spot a light long before the light tank will spot him — light tank dead.

    2) my goal normally is WIN, even if that means i go and try hold a flank where only few people are going and you are likely to die, but maybe help your team to win.
    Sad though, that i did quite a bit better when is was grinding my mark of exellence on the Jagdtiger, and only focusing on doing damage, not win (since that did not matter for it)

    3) garage battles would be a fun mode, but it should never replace the random battles as they are at the moment. because that is what makes WOT different of all the other games, like shooters or even WT. you cant just yolo and then say, well lets go again. it is way more complex and you really need to think about what you are doing because you cant just respawn.
    Would like to give it a try tough.

    4)FFA – why not… dont think i would like it personally, but the same thing i said about confrontation: no one has to play it, and if there are some people who like it, why dont let them play what they think is fun.

    6) most suitable? well in platoons you obvioulsy do better, but most of the people play most of the time solo, you cant change that so i dont quite understand the question

    7) as someone else already said, escorting would be fun. since AI is made atm for the historical battles, let some AI drive on a road, on team attacks, on defends them. would encourage some more team play than the radom battles do, i guess.

    another idea:
    like assault, but the defending team gets a map in their favor, the map should be made like in real life, to help the defenders and stop or slow down the attackers. (not too much of course). The defenders have only one or maybe two lifes, the attackers like 5 or more. 10 or 7 minutes, the attackers have to kill all defenders or cap somewhere at the end of the map, counter should only be 30 or even 20 seconds.

    btw i often wondered if we could do a testserver wich has no arty and no gold(or just a limited amount like 10% of ammo capacity) so people could see how it is and there would be finally an answer if it is better or not. just to make one half of the players shut up, lets see which one ;)

  29. 1: Uneven distribution of tanks and/or players.By which i mean,quite often one team gets 3 T10s or T9s more than the other (for no apparent reason),and that you very often end up in matches with “doomplatoons” (as in,very good players in a double or triple platoon) on the enemy team and none on yours,aswell as the situation where your team generally gets far worse players than the other team.
    2:Grinding,farming missions,and getting more experience that i can use in teambattles.Its suprising what you can learn just from watching players better than yourself in random battles.

    A: Proper matchmaking. Can’t stand top tier games where the enemy has 2 extra tier 10s. Also, fix troll platoons – I honestly don’t want to see a T1 Cunningham in a t10 battle, regardless of which team he is on.
    Lastly, grinding is really not much fun and is a major factor on deciding whether or not I play WoT on a given day. More specifically, having +-2t MM just feels like crap when you’re at the bottom, as you’re usually the slowest, worst armoured, with the lowest HP, and greatly undergunned. Where is the bloody fun in that?

    A: The idea sounds cool, although not sure how spawning will be implemented to avoid frustration (e.g., spawning behind well advanced enemies, or spawning where the enemies are already pointing their guns).
    There is a problem with leavers in War Thunder, especially when the player’s main tank is knocked out (so, after the first death usually), which is really frustrating. I suppose the same issue will be apparent in WOT, as well, where players will rage quit after the first or second death. Also, if the enemy team is already better (e.g., if they would dominate your team 15-1 or similar in the current battles), having to throw 3 tanks at them will also not be much fun.

    A: I would love it. Currently as it is, the game is 1 v 29 anyway, except you cannot shoot 14 of them without consequences. As unrealistic as tank deathmatches would be, I’d really like those!

    Besides the obvious lack in balance in skill between two teams :P I would firstly say maps design/redesign.
    The funneling of tanks into hard choke points (walls on each sides) and thus creating a lack of flanking opportunities, cause flanking possibilities are funneled routes as well. Best example is Servegorvsk and the reworked El Halluf in my opinion.

    Secondly: powercreep and general balance issues with tanks/guns that are in game a long time now. Some really need to be looked at and not just on ONE tank, but the gun for all tanks that can use it.

    So in my opinion, address the balance team vs team, like currently with battletier weight, but add a skill indicator so that part can be balanced as well.

  33. 1) Matchmaking should be preferential for stock tanks, teams should be equally balanced with the same numbers of tanks by tier (who likes having 2 tier 10 less on his team?). Also LTs should have their scouting role back, as it was stolen by tier 10 meds.

    2) Enjoying the tanks I play, improving my skill to pwn (better stats in the process) and grinding tier 10s and creds for other tanks I liked in the past.

    3) Garage battles would be great as endgame content, they could work for tier 8 as well as tier 10. Would be quite a change from the current randoms. As for leavers and AFKs – they should be punished way harder than in randoms.

    4) It could work with a small number of tanks, think up to 7, but still this ain’t CoD

    5) This isn’t DotA or LoL. How should that work anyway in an arcade shooter?

    6) Platoons are currently mostly OK, MM might need a little more tweaking in order to equal them out on opposite teams IMO.

    7) There should be larger maps for 15 vs 15 games at tier 9 and 10 (maybe also at tier 8), think some 1200x1200m – LTs would have their scouting aspect more pronounced on maps like these.
    A draft idea I (and probably many others) had – “XXL battles” – 20 vs 20, or 25 vs 25 on maps 2-3km in length. Very slow tanks like Maus, T110E3 and T95 would suffer though, so they shouldn’t appear in XXL battles

  34. 1. It’s pretty okay. I’ve been playing the random battles for two years, not much has changed apart from +-2 mm spread. If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.

    2. My goal is playing. Sometimes I play well (to win those 5 battles a day for my TOG), and sometimes I just want to have fun. In general, I choose tanks that enable this, even my premium (t-34-3) is aimed towards fun more than efficiency of play. Of course at the end of the day my objective is to win the battle, but having fin while doing it.

    3. I think the “if you die you die for good” is a very special aspect of WoT, it’s very different from others and offers unique gameplay, so garage battles would be a bit weird, if not downright imitating war thunder. I personally wouldn’t play them, other people may, though. I’d have to try it to have a concrete opinion on it.

    4. Free-for-all sounds awesome, but you’d need less tanks. If it was 30 people vs eachother, everyone would just hide and wait for others to kill each other, the amount of tanks has to be something we as players can achieve, like 10 players on one map would be realistic. Still, I think people would just camp.

    5. If I want to play a MOBA I play Dota 2.

    6. You mean like battle mode? I only play normal mode, I have encounter and assault switched off.

    Too much one-sided roflstomp battles (15-5 in 4-5 minutes, etc) I currently collect battle statistics (how the battle ended, and how long it lasted) and out of 144 battles, (battle tier 5,6,7) 44 battles ended in ~15-5 and in ~5 minutes (30%!!!) My theory is that the general accuracy buff in 8.6 causes this. (the number of one-sided battles increased significantly after 8.6)

    Well are these the question he is just answer or does he just ask around for feedback SS?

    1) On Random Battles: That you depend hard on your TopTiers and if yours are not as good as the enemies, then you’ve on many reworked maps a clear lose nearly. And I dont talk about those matches with 7 TopTiers. 3 are enough if you’ve enemies like E-75, ST-1 or KV-1. There are so much zones right now, that you cant play over spotting mechanism that often to turn a match to your fate as LowTier.
    2nd thing is the Tierclass Balance. I mean between T8 and T10 is a good Balance. But Starting from T3 to T8 there is a hard imbalance between that 2 TierMM. Defenetly not for all vehicles, but many of them and the hardest are the slow good armored vehicles in there Tier. That a T6 and then a TD with camo can Oneshot a T4 vechicle isnt good.

    2) My Goal is to win as much battles as possible cause in 2nd stage is to grind as fast as possible and that getting faster and easier if you win games. 3rd is my WN8 but as I think I m not going to be a unicum, I dont care that much about that.

    3) Maybe a good Idea. But why do you do this on T10? It would be cool to have this thing on T7 or even T5 cause thats are the Tiers that are not interesting for eSports but filled with interesting vehicles.
    The leaver problem if that occurs can be handled just harder then the one in random but on the other Hand: The goal of a garage battle is that you as player can decide when which vehicle and how many of your possibility vehicles you take into the match

  37. 1) I think that there are two problems with randoms these days: tunnel maps and xvm showing player stats and win chance. Tunnel maps are promoting only one style of playing (peek-a-boo) and there’s just no place for sniping, circling and flanking. Xvm is just crap – it leads to flames in game, much whine over 49.9% chance to win a battle, etc. Just ban it already.

    2) Getting as much dmg/exp as possible and winning battles.

    3) They might be useful for grinding/farming purposes, also it means – on one hand you get another chance when you screw up, on another – if your team is totally braindead – you’re screwed even harder than in a standard battle, so it’s kind of a mixed bag. Might be worth a try though. Also – if they’re implemented, I would like them to be implemented on all tiers.

    4) Not want. WOT is a team game, and let’s stick with that.

    5) This could be nice. Never played moba games before, but sounds like fun – on team is attacking and the other is defending, tank repairs and ammo resupplying in battle and/or limited respawn? I would at least try it out. And “objective” type battles (think wolfenstein enemy territory) are just one step ahead, and those are fun.

    6) WOT is a team game. Period. Even if there will be pve elements, there should still be other human players on the field (either random or company-like modes would do).

    7) As I mentioned earlier – wolfenstein enemy territory-like, objective based missions could be fun if implemented (possibly with limited respawn/repairs). Also, something like (turret?) defense – random teams/companies against waves of ai controlled tanks? Sounds fun.

  38. 1) Allow the player to chose a few maps that they don’t want to play or want to play more often, might also help a bit with poor maps…

    2) No real goals, sometimes I just go in, play a couple tanks, get out.

    When there is a good grinding mission, say 500.000 credits or premium tank of sorts or something that’s worth going for and doesn’t take hell of a lot of time, I would grind those too.

    I guess grinding missions give me a point in playing the game, tanks can get frustrating.

    3) I don’t know much about garage battles, from what I’m understanding, it’s a gamemode where you chose a Tier 10 tank, and have three goes at it, doesn’t sound to interesting, but end game modes could be good for the players that finished grinding all the lines.

    4) I would enjoy playing a FFA with tanks, however, I feel like medium tanks and light tanks would most likely dominate, easy to relocate and to unload some damage, because in a FFA, the more you stay still and hurt people, more people will come hunting you down..

  40. 1) Spotting system needs huge rework, its very annoying in randoms to not to see a td moving in the open 300m in front of me. Platoon made by 6-8 tier and 3 or lower tiers. Limiting amount of gold ammo for tanks, becouse obviously Pt. made by 3 players that use only gold ammo gives a huge impact on who will win the game. A very very simple tool to ban all the botters, that is a stat based server clusters(as we all know bots got very low stats so just by making servers joinable by these stats will fight off the bots for good) For example server 1 will require wn8 like 0-1000 and server 2 wn8 1000+
    2) Grinding exp. for tank and crew, farming cash,finishing missions
    3) Good idea if you will make separate game type like that, and decrease costs of ammo and repairs on it.
    4) Would be nice but only for 5-10 players, playing on the biggest maps in game.
    5) For that you need bigger maps.
    6) Solo and Platoons are nice both.
    7) Base hunting mode- Players would have to capture randomly spawning bases on the map, very nice anty camping type of gameplay.     Overnerfing of the TD class. They’ve already been hit hard enough yet more nerfs are coming. Medium tanks are the OP class now. Just stop overnerfing everything and you wont end up with a new OP class as much as you do now.

    Garage battles for all tiers please. More importantly though, speaking of Garage, I want to be able to drive around inside and outside my garage, shooting at random objects to get a feel for a tank before playing it, or just to alleviate boredom whilst deciding what tank to play next. Everything would be purely client-side and have no real bearing on the game itself.

    Something I’ve been wanting for a while. Put 1 player on each corner of a square map for great fun and glory. Have respawns with a set time limit or make this the garage battle mode.

    Like the Battlefield games? Worth a try, I guess….

    Encounter is my current favorite mode. I wish I could play 100% encounter maps.

    Capture the Flag (bring back to base) could be fun, maybe. Really gives new dimensions to the various vehicle classes. Light tanks race for the flag, mediums support them while heavies and TDs protect their own flag and try not to get destroyed by artillery. Respawns or garage battle mode would be a necessity.

    The biggest turn of for me is its boring now, start game, go left or right fight at bottleneck. fastest reflexes win. WT while it has issues has far more scope for exploring and flanking etc – and yes being on teams with donkeys can grind so now and then going to play PVE would be a nice break from the tedium.

    I think the problem is with unbalanced tank which appeared in last patches like FV 215 183 or WT auf E100. They are just impossible to balance because of their guns. Like someone said: once they are OP, once they are piece of shit. The other think is, that renovated maps are just very hard to play with TD’s without armor. Can’t you just nerf the TD and not nerf maps for them?

    Mainly grinding and playing interesting tanks. Also high stats. I don’t play in X tier random games because they are not really fun (lots of gold ammo, unbalanced TD’s).

    I don’t mind if there will be some punishment for leavers. It would bring some action to the game.

    I am waiting for new historical battles against AI. It would be nice to play with friends to just talk and not care about other people like in singleplayer. And also it could be more realistic then random battles. I would like to see some special new maps for it (a lot larger and without unrealistic hills, just normal terrain, like Kursk in WT).

    I would like to see a remodelled encounter mode. This would be a mode, where the teams are not balanced by ammount of vehicles. It could be for example 15vs10. 10 tanks would defend a better position, but they will have less tanks to balance it. It would be very interesting game mode. I would play it for sure.

  44. 1) Tank’s earning is based on damage mostly. But what if tank is not meant to do do a damage? Lets connect more credit making to spotting in case of LTs; tanking for HTs; dpm/spotting/distance travelled for MTs; dmg for TDs and splash dmg for artillery.
    2) missions! And grinding ofc. Being >30yr old I can’t sacrifice enough time to compete with kids abusing the xvm for epeen.
    3) and 4) I can’t think anything of new modes; but tier 7 and 9 could use some love, instead of being roadbump for company/CW/TB.
    5) what’s the point if current team battles rely on ground control?
    6) pve, either platoon survival or solo mission mode
    7) Race with the time. Both teams got 5 minutes to achieve highest dmg output possible.

  45. 1) Firstly, some attention should be paid to the balancing of lower-tier and mid-tier games. Especially between about tiers 4-7, the power leap between tiers is pretty huge and it becomes very hard to impact a battle using a lower-tier tank and very, very easy to get oneshotted even by opposing heavies (not to mention arty or TDs). Also, at VERY low levels (1-2), armour is pretty much worthless with only a handful of exceptions, so tanks die very fast and learner players don’t get to learn like they should be doing at this level. It might be worth upping the hp of very low tier tanks across the board to make the low levels a bit more forgiving and cut down on the one-shot kills on newbies from 75mm howitzers etc.

    Also, some maps with more open areas and perhaps more soft cover would be nice (though would require some testing, open but high-cover maps don’t interact well with the spotting system, as the Murovanka magic forest demonstrated)

    2) Enjoying myself. Random battles are the only battle type I play. I do grind towards particular historically-significant tanks because I prefer playing them rather than prototypes or paper tanks no matter what the relative power level, but in general I’ll only play maybe a couple of games after work just to relax, so hardcore grinding, clan wars, team battles etc, and even most missions are all too big an investment of time for me.

    3) I don’t play high-tier games and am very unlikely to ever start (I don’t play enough, and I’m not good enough!) but I love the idea of asymmetrical garage battles at middle or low tiers being used as a way to promote historical matchups – ie, the German side can play their Tiger bu only get one, while the Russian side can have a garage of T34s/SU85s/etc to match against them. As for garage battles more generally – I don’t know. It depends how it’s implemented. Casual players like myself don’t necessarily own many tanks at any given tier at any one time, so if every tank you bring into a garage battle has to be different (the WT model) then it’s very possibly I’d find my options reduced so much that I wouldn’t bother.

    4) I wouldn’t play it. Seems pointless, unfulfilling, and far too likely to be dominated by whoever brings the best tank in (and if you’re bottom tier, why would you even bother?)

    5) Don’t know what this means

    6) As mentioned above, I play solo mostly, but platoon works well for others and I have no problems with it.

  46. I am by no means a great or experienced player, but I’ve been in this game for over 3 years now…so…seen a lot of stuff.

    My main gripe with Random Battles is that there are too many maps. It takes a freaking long time to learn most of them and you’ll never really master all of them. The recent changes and the additions of “corridors” make a number of these maps absolutely stupid. Heck…just make two perpendicular tunnels and give everyone an IS-3 and you have the same thing.

    Reduce the number of maps (there are over 40 now) and do the following to give players some level of choice (and a chance for you to collect interesting and potentially valuable data)…voting on the map for the next game. Once the teams are decided get two maps and let the players vote on which map they will play that game. You give the players a level of choice/control and you will very quickly see which maps are hated and which are loved. Hated maps need to be dropped or, at the very least, changed.

    2) What are your goals in random battles? (grinding, high stats, farming missions…)
    Depends on the nation/branch I’m focusing on. I prefer TD’s and I’m working through the various branches. Some are more fun than others. I’m grinding on British, but just having fun with my Ferdi 95% of the games I play. When I do play my Ferdi, I’m gunning (heh, pun intended) for damage (and kills) and for the win…other stuff means nothing to me.

    95% of the time I play one tank…garage battles have zero appeal to me. Wouldn’t even play them.

    Stupid idea. You think historical battles were bad…this’ll be even worse. It will quickly degenerate into single tank battles. In WoT, too much is dependent on the class of vehicle you have selected and you can have a large advantage/disadvantage just based on that. As others have pointed out…arty would be useless, TD’s next, etc.

    I have never played a MOBA and never will…how does this help WoT? If it’s a separate mode that I can opt out of, then go ahead. You’ll waste tons of time/effort developing and then drop it afterwards.

    I would say platoon. In real life (which WoT isn’t) tankers rely on info/direction from their commander and squad mates. Communication is the most important aspect of combat and teams that communicate well will win.

    Not a mode suggestion…just overall. Make slightly larger maps that are not cities that promote true maneuver combat like WWII tanks had…

      My two cents:
      1. Matchmaking:
      - too many battles with mismatched numbers of top tiers. In one game recently (tier 7), the enemy team got 3 more tier 7s. Their tier 7s were also better (XVM) and ended up with 14 of their 15 kills. In other game, the enemy team ended up with two more tier 7s and an extra tier 6 vs my team, which got a tier 5 platoon. A while back, I was placed into a tier 6 game where the enemy team got two more tier 6 heavies. My team got two extra tier 4s to compensate. o_0

      - matching of stock vs. elited tanks. In the second game mentioned above, my team also got a stock IS which was matched against two elite T29s.

      - strange team compositions. Got one battle on Lakeville where my team got something like 2 heavies 2-3 mediums 1 arty, and the rest were lights and TDs. The opposing team got 4 heavies, 8 mediums. Ouch. Very different team compositions are okay on some maps (Fire Salient) but bad on others (city fight / brawling maps).

      - Horrible map design. Almost all maps now are corridor maps with hills every 50ft. There are no bushes, no long lines of sight. I’m sure the heavy and medium players love it, but it makes TDs useless [I admit, I play a lot of TDs - bad reflexes and reaction times do not make for good medium play ...]. The corridor maps and funneling make for shorter lop-sided fights, and means that a strange team composition (like I mention above) turns a match into a likely win/loss for your team.

      - Unbalanced maps. Mountain Pass is probably the worst. One spot for TDs/scouts in the north, nothing in the south, and no long sight lines.

      - Improve tank balance. The ARLV39 is terrible for example. Or the SU-101. Their tanks curves on wot-news (esp. the SU-101) are impressively bad. The M6 is pretty bad as well – good gun, not much else.

      2. Randoms – grind tanks, win, play with friends for fun. I’ve had a lot of bad matches recently in tanks at the top of tanks I’m grinding, so I’ve barely been playing much (especially given all the horrible map changes).

      3. Garage battles? No tier 10s, but I think it could be interesting.

      4. FFA – fun, but favours heavies and mediums.

      6. I mostly platoon at the moment, but both modes are fine. The problem I have with platoons is that they can be a detriment at higher tiers. I’m a decent player, as are my friends, but getting your tier 8 platoon matched against a platoon of unicums [due to platoon MM-ing] means at higher tiers you can be hurting you win rate by platooning.

      7. I’d like to see as new game modes:
      - +/- 1 MM or equal tier games. Have the MM just pick from the same tier (or mostly same tier) as a game mode.
      - national battles back as a game mode, but with better/different MM weighting.
      - pure “kill them all” mode.

      8. Other stuff. I’d like to see the encounter (and especially standard battle) cap counters lengthened in the early game to prevent the “rush cap and win” games.

      • Some other thoughts:
        1. MM – I think the game would be better if all tanks had more HP. As well, I think some of the hp/tier values should be looked at. TDs especially are bad around tier 5/6/7 when they can face tanks that can pretty much one-shot them. Light tanks are even worse off.

        - Games with low numbers of top tiers should be balanced a little better. I’ve seen some weird matchups with games with 1-2 top tier tanks where it is heavies/meds vs arty. Not good.

        6. Platoon matching is too harsh in terms of MM weighting. Played 16 games last Friday, ended up with a 45? 47% win rate. Almost every game our platoon was 1, and usually 2 tiers down, with terrible top-tier players. A while back a couple of friends and I played 23 games, and I think 21 games were bottom tier or middle tier. NOT fun.

        To go along with the above, teams should NOT have to constantly rely on horrible players as their top tier tanks. Especially when they are the only top tiers.

    Just bring back National Battles with a proper MM where all tanks can get in and MM takes 10+ seconds to find tanks.     Since this is an arcade game, the role of commander and soldier isnt present as it would on a real battlefield. You can pretty do whatever you want in this game. Hence the best role for a tank, in this game, is solo play. Even in platoons you can still play solo.Even a platoon of players can still act independantly outside of their own team.

    With the havok engine on its way, what about a Destroy the Base random battle mode? Instead of capping a flag, a team would attempt to destroy a base. Basically this is how I would like to see the MOBA idea work.

    - To much gold ammo. I don’t know how how high your revenue is because of gold ammo, but there has something to be done. Best is to limit the amount to 10% of tanks total capacity. e.g.: Tank X can carry 50 rounds, of them 5 are premrounds.

    edit: Relocate the encounter caps on Prokhorovka (more to the left aka 4 or 5 line, strait in the middle) and Sacred valley (away from the south). THX

    -Occasional MM mistakes like top tier arty when there is like 3 top tiers for each
    team or platoon of toptiers in one team and platoon of bottomtiers in second.
    -+/-2 MM for below V (with some exceptions like T18 or Matilda ofc)
    -I miss option to send something like “congratulations” after a battle with text like
    “Congrats, you’ve done well” or “Nice one” to the player I think showed his skill in
    battle.
    -absolutely I don’t want skilled MM, I would be awful I think.
    2.) I try to do something useful for my team – don’t die in first 3 minutes of battle. Also I’m recently trying to improve my terrible stats
    3.) I think such battles would be too long and players would do a lot of stupid things in them (“I will jump/rush through open field, becouse I don’t care! I can respawn!”). Also it would be very easy to get a lot of medals, that require kills and damage, like Top Gun, Confederate, etc…
    4.) I don’t think it is a good idea. Too much chaos, too much enemies for WoT playstyle.

  57. On the FFA mode i think it would generally be terrible but with certain low tier tanks it could be fairly epic fun. There is very little teamwork at low tiers anyway and quite often going on an epic carry in a cruiser 3 or whatever feels like a FFA. Map design would be hella important though.

    The worst part is that maps are made to benefit a certain kind of vehicle. For example, landing in Severogorsk in anything other than top tier HT is pointless, you won’t have any impact on the game. It really is a downer when you simply can’t have fun on certain maps with certain tanks. You struggle to find anything to do because your vehicle simply can’t do stuff that’s important on the map ie. being E-25 on severogorsk, you really have nothing to do. There is nowhere to scout and the map consists of corridors where alpha and armor dominate. Maps need to be playable for all classes and playstyles so that certain games are not “meh, not this thing again”. Since Storm announced that some maps will be dropped, it would be a good idea to scrap the most one-dimensional ones.

    To get better, to get the rare medals (I like them, lol) and to have fun, most importantly.

    Platoons highly skew balance, so there should simply be option of “solo only” where you can’t encounter platoons. That would be beneficial for WG as well, as the data from such mode would be less diluted.

    While WG will obviously never make this, I’d be happy with what we have, just with a “ban map” option. Really, that’s the only thing that stops me from having fun in this game – maps that make me feel worthless.

    A toss up between good map balance, and a map rotation system. For the former, a lot of maps are geared towards heavies and mediums(IMO), and don’t have the hiding spots for lights or TDs. Some maps are fine, but others could definitely use a once-over. For the latter, everyone knows what I mean. Something like getting thrown on Himmelsdorf and Westfield repeatedly. Map rotation(or even a voting system) would fix this.

    Having fun, grinding up various tank lines. But seriously, playing the Luchs with the 3cm autocannon in a tier 4 game is like playing the M5 Stuart with the mini derp in a tier 4 game. Endless fun.

    For random, I don’t think it’d work very well. If you have a bad game in the first tank, you’re more likely to quit than try with another, unless you’re like me, and don’t want to leave your team hanging. Leavers are always a problem, and in a mode like garage battles, it’ll most likely be a bigger problem.

    No. Tanks and FFA do not mix. WoT is definitely a game where teams actually matter. Without teamwork, you’re screwed. In FFA, there is no real teamwork, and depending on the Tank you’re in, that could be a very, very bad thing.

    I usually play solo. It’s just easier. No need to wait on everyone else to ready up, and you don’t need to stop and think up a strategy like you would with two or three people. However, I personally think that platoons are much more suitable. Like in my previous answer, it’s the teamwork aspect. Platooning with clan mates gives at least in part, the teamwork aspect.

    Domination. It would be like it is, in say, CoD. Three capture points. First team to get the score wins.

  60. 1) Apart from tank balance between tiers (so much fun playing T8 these days… not). The biggest problem for me is how camping always beats aggressive play, I jut don’t find it fun that the best way to win a game is to let the enemy make the first move/mistake rather than trying to make a move to outplay the enemy. One of the main reasons for this is still the spotting and camo system. Sure – we had arty destroying all games, then there were TDs doing the same – both have been severely nerfed, then maps got “nerfed”, yet the problem still persists and is in no way, imo, tied to any particular vehicle class. The problem is, that it doesn’t matter which type of tank is camping behind 2 rows of bushes at the base, that tank will be invisible if it’s a maus or a light tank, with exactly the same viewrange. I think camo of a partcicular tank should be the major factor when calculating camo (even behind bushes), not the bushes themselves. This would of course require some serious camo factor rebalancing, stretching the upper limits to even double or more of what it is now. A tank shouldn’t get more than 50-80% camo bonus by any number of bushes (random number, of course that could be tweaked a lot). So lets say the camofactors would range from 0 to 40 – a light tank with 40 would behind 2 bushes get maybe 60-70 camo, pretty much the same as now, but a maus would still get spotted at at least 390 meters by a 400 m viewrange tank, behind any number of bushes, as opposed to 150 meters in such situation these days. Also I’d remove the 15 m rule – in turn I’d tweak the after shot camofactors aswell. There should in no way be a chance that a 170 mm gun fires off and the tank doesn’t get spotted at 150 meters, which is what happens now. Also some viewrange tweaks would be desirable.

    Basically – make camofactor of particular tanks more important than bushes, remove 15 m rule, to this end camofactors would need to be significantly changed and some changes to viewranges would also be nice.

    2) The goal is to win by using superior skill to OUTPLAY (not outcamp or outsidescrape while shooting heat) the opponents, which sadly doesn’t work, which is described in point 1)

    3) Would never even try to play. Seeing how rare it is to get even games that don’t end up extremely easy wins for either side, I’d never even dare risking getting stuck in a game like that with more than 1 tank. Also, any differences in skill would snowball into much greater difference given more time to play out in longer games like that. So if 70% of games now are already quite imbalanced and end up being onesided, this number would go higher in longer games.

    4) Nope… campfags sitting somewhere and avoiding any confrontation would once again be on top and anyone being active would again be punished severely.

    5) Don’t give a damn. I think it’s silly though, if i wanted to play a moba I’d play a moba.

    6) Every mode, apart from the basic one is bad.

    7) How about a mode where one’s own base starts to get bombarded after 2 minutes of the game, forcing campers to actually do something? Or maybe – how about a mode with no base to capture or defend. With several (8+) team starting locations? Randomly selected by the server, at least it would take people longer to learn into which bush to drive 50 meters and camp if there were 8 or more possible locations the team could spawn at.

      some types of tanks on some maps are just plain useless (mostly noticeable with light tanks/tds/tanks without armor or gundepression), also, having something to do with the above – when you get on a city map and in your team there are exactly zero tanks with any armor while the enemy team is made up of 4 IS-7s, two mauses, a couple of E100s – yeah, thats a lot of fun. But is that a problem of the map or the matchmaker? Which in a way leads me to wonder if many of the problems why people ask for skill MM could not be solved simply by a mm that would take into account the map, tanks and the tiers of the tanks.

      • and one more: I don’t think any tank should be able to oneshot (even with above average dmg roll) any tank one tier lower than itself, or even two tiers lower. Hell, I’d say no tank should be able to two shot, with average dmg rolls, a tank one tier lower than its own tier. That would translate into alpha at tier 10 of no more than 800. This along with the spotting/camo system I’d consider the biggest problem in randoms – camping invisible faggots that can one or two shot you and you can’t do anything about that. Including arty. + the fact some tanks are on some maps useless and that mm throws the tanks around in a way that makes for really favorable tank compositions on one team and bad composition on the other.

    What I miss the most in current random battles are regarding Matchmaking when it comes to tiers, tanks and platoons…
    I do not like to see Matchmakings with only 1,2 or 3 topdogs (largest tier in the battle) and/or only 1,2 or 3 bottom tanks (not scouts).
    The reason for this is the huge difference in power between tiers. When only having 1,2 or 3 topdogs on your team it matters a lot wether they are good or bad and they will be too powerfull in that battle. Make sure you have at least 4-6 of them and the risc of having bad topdogs on one side and good topdogs on the other is minimized.
    The same goes for the low tiers. I see very often tanks that are not scouts being put in there for “fillings” or because the MM is making up for a shit-platoon on the other side, but they are often too slow and too weak to do anything but die not even being able to function as a scout.
    Having more of them makes sure they might at least be lucky running into something they can fight and having less of them removes the problem alltogether…
    Platoons can be powerfull, however in my clan where teamwork and socializing is encouraged the better players refuse to play more than 2 in a platoon because the MM seems particular harsh when rolling 3 people. Obviously perception might be delusive, but being punished with bottom placements on the team for being 3 in a platoon creates an atmosphere where the average players get frustrated and 2 good players refuse to bring in the average players in their platoon because it will drag them down.
    Tinfoil? Maybe… But I rarely see any 3-man platoons as top dogs unless they drive tier x ;-)
    Apart from this I just hate maps where you have little chance to avoid front2front battles like that hidden village. Even though it recently got better it is not really about tactics, but more about having strong tanks and better shooters on your team.

    My goal in random battles are primarily to relax, often with friends, However completing missions when they are not too demanding plays a good role too.
    I do care mostly for my winrate and I really hate it when I am having streaks of bad luck with horrible players on my team throwing away solid leads or myself being put on the bottom of the team in a tank that is not capable of doing anything against the enemy team. I like the socializing of platoons and I would wish 3 players in platoon didn’t impact so much on the MM because it’s frustrating getting way more tier x battles in your tier 8 tanks than when you play alone…

    I hate the very idea of suddenly becoming a chaotic mess where people just throw themself at the enemy and with the current imbalance of teams it will just drag out the pain of having a bad team. Besides I predict spawncamping could become bad on some maps…

    I like teamplay and I believe FFA will be way more random and less about being the better player. With the current maps perhaps with no more than 6 players total, but I really dont see me liking this.

    If you had maps at least 2,5km X 2,5km I actually believe this being very fun. Actually if you WANT to bring garage battles I would do combined with this game mode. Like two 12-15 man team, maximum of 30 minutes battletime with, 1-2 tanks coming back every 4-5 minutes when there is only 20 minutes back. Win by taking all checkpoints.

    6) What mode (solo or platoon, not requiring teams) is according to you the most suitable for tanks?
    The current random battles “normal” and “encounter” are IMO the most suitable for tanks when not taking the team options into account.
    I would suggest not to have any other random game modes to keep the game focused. If anything bring back the “national battle” with a twist where in some tiers it’s more like axis & allies. like germany & japan vs usa & britain or germany vs france & britain.
    I would however keep this for certain tiers like tier 2/3, 4/5, 6/7 and 8/9.

    7) If you want to, make a proposition for your own mode for random battles
    I dislike assault for being too unbalanced, however maybe the new 7/54 mode will give good fun battles. Apart from that I like to play normal and encounter.

    I would not really want any other types of random battles. The game will not be better millions of different types of game play, but will instead be stronger with a focus on a selective amount with more variation than currently. I would however like for all battlemodes to have the same time to cap as the encounter mode or perhaps just only count the 2 tanks having most cap points instead of currently 3. I then hope to see a little more combat than people trying to run for the zone all the time. I am totally pro capping, but it’s a bit too easy to rush the zones in normal random, cw, team battle etc

    A little out of the questions:
    Try to keep a minimum of game modes, however change them for better variation than currently.
    Random battles : assault, encounter, normal (very nice variation of modes and tiers)
    Clan Wars : 15 tanks, tier 10 (it’s a cool teamplay mode)
    Team Battles : 7 tanks, tier 8, 54 points (it’s a cool teamplay mode)
    Company : Just merge it into skirmish battles and replace with other game mode)
    Skirmish :
    7 tanks, tier 6 (As tier 6 tanks are easy to get why not allow smaller clans to experience the fun and challenges of having 10-12 tanks on a team?)
    10 tanks, tier 8 (unfortunately pretty close to team battles)
    15 tanks, tier 10 (Why compete with cw when you can make this mode way more available for smalle clans by reducing numbers to 7 or 10?)

    Changing the number of tanks in skirmish battles is not only a way of giving players a bigger variety in game modes, however it is also a very easy way of introducing younger clans better into teamplay with tier 10 vehicles as 15 of them can be hard to come by for smaller clans and at the same time practice their teamplay with cheaper and more accessible tier 6 tanks which the small clans should have plenty available?
    Even just putting an even max 10 tanks in all skirmish battles will have a tremendous impact on how clans participate in skirmish and the strong experienced clans will likely be playing Clan Wars anyway if they want to drive 15 tier 10 tanks…

    A: Sounds great! It would be a great alternative for players to show off their individual skills. Not to say you can’t do it in random battles, it’s just harder. I think balancing would be an issue since not all tanks in the game are equal and some might give other tanks a hard time. For example a good player in a T95 who gets matched up in a battle with an average player in a Centurion 7/1. Both tier 9′s but unless the T95 player gets some kind of advantage, the Centurion 7/1 player is going to easily win.

    A: It takes a high level of cooperation if a team want’s to succeed right. I don’t know much about MOBA gameplay but judging from what I read, it could be an alternative to the current capture the base style.

    A: It depends. A platoon is only good when the players are good and they can cooperate. Otherwise, there is almost no hope in winning a battle.

    A: A conquer the map or w/e it’s called mode. A big map, bigger than 1000m x 1000m, so that players have space to move. Each team must conquer as much land as possible and must as much land as possible until the timer ends. The team that has conquered the most land, wins.

    The current meta is wrong, TDs are being made useless.
    Arty is still broken, how is someone allowed to oneshot you from the other side of the map NOT EVEN CARING about even touching wasd. It ruins a game in oneshot which is bad, no other tank can do that. FV and Waffle both have to be in the draw distance range of you and have to actually have a clear line of sight to you. Arties simply don’t care. Arties should have less rng, do only dmg as a normal tanks does (never more than half or a third of the tank’s hp), it should have a much shorter reload and a much SHORTER RANGE, ARTIES SHOULD F… drive to be able to shoot… And they should have to retreat if their side gets pushed, this would require clickers more skill.
    Also, maps… Why do we need corridors? Corridors only allow noobs to feel as if they would be good, but that should not be the focus of a game, it should promote good gameplay, not allow noobs to pwn…

    Only WN8, I don’t care for WR, but I do care for winning, but differently than othe players do, if I have done everything possible to win the game i’m fine with it and I consider it won. That’s why I never rage even if have 20% WR for that day but 5k WN8.

    My game idea would be a semi-free for all gamemode:
    there are 4 or 6 teams, each team consists of 2 players (obviously platoons, comminacation with random people is ehhh, impossibru.). Teams would be positioned roughly in a hexagon or rectangle on the map, and only on the more balanced maps. This is how it would work:
    Each player gets to choose a tech tree line he wants to play. Every player will start with the Tier1 tank with top configuration of that tank, and when getting damage or kills he unlocks the next tank, when dying he will get spawned with the next tank of that line and so on. Also the spawns of the teams should be in safe zones where other teams can’t go in or shoot into so that these wouldn’t get camped. To prevent camping, in the middle of the map there should be a white cap circle in which when standing for example 20 seconds you unlock the next tank. This cap circle would be the main fighting position of the gamemode.

    So let’s take this scenario as example:
    i’ll take 2 teams here, so I wouldn’t have to make it that complicated. So there are 4 players: PlayerGreen1, PlayerGreen2, PlayerRed1 PlayerRed2. Let’s say PG1 takes the T110E5 line through M6, and PG2 takes the E50M line. PR1 takes 121 line through WZ-132 and PR2 takes the Waffle E100 line. So PG1 and PG2 start with T1 and LolTraktor on side A of the map, PR1 and PR2 start with NC-31 and lolTraktor on side B of the map.
    Both PG1 and PG2 start very agressive and enter the cap circle as fast as possible, PR1 and PR2 surround the green team and come from behind, because the green team didn’t expect it they both died only killing one of the enemies. So because PG1 killed one of the enemies, he gets spawned in as T2 Medium, and PG2 gets spawned still as loltraktor. As PR1 died in burning, but killing both enemies, he gets respawned as Chi-Ha. PR2 surviving it caps it and gets a level up, next time he will die he will already spawn as T2 tank of his line. And so on.

    This gamemode would need quite a lot of balancing, but if done right it could be a lot of fun :)

    – In my opinion the only issue is with the current matchmaker is the tank distribution. Quite often you have a situation where you have one or two bottom tiers, maybe five middle tiers and the rest top tiers. It should be the opposite so that the higher the tier of the tank, the fewer there would be. This would allow the lower tiers to properly swarm the higher tiered tank, instead of just being a punching bag with occasional sun shine. (For example, 3 Xs, 5 IXs and 7 VIIIs). The only problem with it would be that you would be even more dependent on your high tiers than you are now, as even one afk/derp/idiot would be enough to ruin the whole game.

    2) What are your goals in random battles? (grinding, high stats, farming missions…)
    – My main goal is to win and I’ll give everything to achieve it. That’s all I concentrate on and everything else comes second (damage, xp etc). If I have to sacrifice my tank in order to win, I’ll gladly do it.

    – I don’t really like the idea. It works in WT because of the whole system is developed around it, whereas WoT has completely different philosophy behind it, making garage battles very difficult to implement. I’m perfectly happy with just random battles.

    – I think this would only encourage people to only play the strongest tank of its tier (as there would be one tank that suits the mode better than others [as in, teams full of Borsigs]). If you look at any FFA mode in any game, the loadouts between players tends to be very similar

Most players really hate certain maps. this way they don’t have to worry about finding them anymore. maybe link them to a few tanks (like arty going into himmelsdorf and maus in campinavka). also a good way to find out what maps are hated the most. only downside I can find is that some tanks may need some rebalancing or some maps might get to lineair.

    2) Having a good time with my platoonmembers. I always play in a platoon. Its also the only place i get xp to research guns, engines, ect. In teambattles and stronghold I play to win. (except on special “fundays” of the clan)

    3) I like the idea of being able to respawn. To get a second chance in a match. I am only worried about 2 things: Max tier and size of the maps.When you only have 1 tier 8 for example and the maximum tier of the battle will be tier 10, you will be in big trouble. Tht way people with the most tier10s will dominate those matches. If you do that you should maybe have at least 3 tanks of the top tier and let you respawn 3 times? sounds fair to me. but then you will get problems finding a match i am afraid… My second “fear” is the mapsize. where would be a safe place to respawn if the enemy is arround every corner?

    4) In a fast paced shooter: no problem. but this isn’t. you would have people team up in the game and gain an unfair advantage over the rest. maybe not right away but then there are 3 players left you might see it happening.

    5) Sounds like a good idea. let the checkpoints be bunkers you have to destroy or something. only concern would be ammo and my hp-pool…. maybe implement it in garagebattles?

    6) Like I already said. i always play in a platoon. its just fun to chat and play with outher people. Its also easier to use strategies teamwork when talking over teamspeak. Platoons of 4 would maybe be a nice idea. If we have someone extra we have to split up the platoon or wait for someone else so start a teambattle.

    7) A mode with 3 bases. Who controls all 3 of them wins the game. You control a base when you have 2 or more friendly tanks in it and 0 enemies within x m. might need some bigger maps. but I don’t mind that, love big maps :)

  69. 1 – Personally, I don’t think skill MM is entirely needed, though I also think really bad players shouldn’t be the top tier for one team, as it pratically decided which one is the losing team. Other than that, currently the MM is acting weird, not balancing the tanks properly, which is especially bad with the current corridor meta.

    2 – Fun, grinding tanks and farming credits. All of them became terribly hard to achieve recently, thank to the removal of battle tier 12 and everyone playing tier X tanks.

    3 – Can’t say about garage battles without any kind of info. Repair bills for 3 tanks? Credit farming ability? XP? No info, no comments, as I don’t even know if it will be worth playing. Generally, I like the idea, but I am afraid of how WG will implement it. About leavers, WG could add the possibility for someone in the team with enough tier X tanks to replace the leaver, adding his remaining spawn points to someone else.

    4 – Terrible idea. Won’t work with the current terrible map design.

    5 – Bad idea

    6 – Domination, kinda like what Battefield has. Flags scattered around the map, hard to defend from a single position,

    7 – No arty random battles.

    The other problem is limited map pool, becomes boring after a few-k battles…

    2. A bit of everything – grindthrough, crews grinding, earning, having good time. Not one dominating goal. Still, i can do some of that on companies.

    3. I think that it’s a bad idea. Respawning is always making the game more dumb, you pay less attention to your life if you have more. Do you really want to make this game more CoD style instead of current CS style? And your competition already shown that garage mode suit better air battles than land battles.

    5. PvP is always the way to go – if i want to play against bots, i have singleplayer games.

    7c. “Continuous battle”: very different garage-respawn mode with much bigger map and different economy rules. Probably more like creating a new game on WoT resources (and maybe using the same player progress). More on PM, if you are interested. The idea is that you feel your each death as single and ultimate and yet observe battle proceeding over time, and without having direct impact in the very same place multiple times.

    • PS on 3 and 4: you are selling the game on the base of perception of realism (don’t mistake with realism) – once you introduce such obviously unrealistic modes, this perception shatters and good portion of older hardcore gamers leave, looking for that perception elsewhere (and they have places to look, even now).

    3) I am very skeptical about this mode considering the seen domination of one team sometimes. Being “stuck” with such a random team results in even a greater loss compared to only have to paying one “lost” tank, being even more frustrating. For a teambased mode like company battles, it is interesting for sure, especially if you have staged objectives.

    4) In my opinion this is a terrible idea because in the end people would tend to use only one tank that proved to be the most suitable for this format rendering all the other less useful or desirable. Also it would disregard the combination of the different classes to work together in a strategic and tactical way as it is possible in normal random battles.
    But if it would be introduced as TEAM deathmatch (meaning no capping), I would find this mode really enjoyable for sure.

    5) Sounds like a version of the in 4) mentioned team deathmatch but with respawn which I find interesting. But it caters to the same fears as in 3) being “stuck” with a bad team
    and creating the same issue seen in games like LoL, meaning many players being frustrated.

    6) Considering random battles for solo or platoon it would be any mode that has a short battle time to be able to play a couple of battles on an evening, e.g. battle times like in LoL of 45 minutes would be bad.

    7) I am taking some inspiration from the battleground of (old) Alterac valley in World of Warcraft. You would have a somewhat persistent battlefield were people would be able to take key locations or maybe fight special hard AIs besides the opponent players to reach certain goals and bringing down a global ticket counter. For doing well in this mode you could get some form of marks that you can use to buy buffs (like the ones for stronghold mode) and use them on one tank to have e.g. extra crew exp for a short time/a couple of battles for that tank. Also if you farmed a huge amount of marks, you could buy using those marks (+credits cost according to the tier) certain special tanks like the one given out from the CW campaigns. So this could be a way to enable and reward very dedicated solo players for “big” effort some of the same boni you can get for being in a decent clan.

  72. 1) Please reduce the MM tier spread. It is not fun for the bottom half. Beeing cannonfodder 50% of the time is not enjoyable and blasting away low tiers is not much of a challenge either. The lowtiers are usually first to die because the hightiers focus on getting rid of the “easy” tagets even when they do not pose a real threat. The lower tiers do not usually get a chance in a game to focus in on each other. The map set up and size does not allow the lower tiers to do creative manouvering to get away safely from any high tiers and their only hope for lasting more then half of the game is if they camp in the back. I have played a few matches when MM had picked the same tier on all vehicules, those matches where fun and challenging. The usual response of both teams to the peculiar event was always very POSITIVE.

    2) Right now it is grinding the tech trees. In the match the goal is of course to:
    A. win.
    B.deal as much dmg as possible
    C.make a profit

    3) This is the solution for historical battles to work. My reason for not paying any attention to the historic battles was way too long waiting times (over 3 min is excessive…). Almost every time i had chosen a low tier to try and reduce the waiting time. The waiting times was by far the main reason why the mode did not take off. The other aspects are secondary.

    A. Numerical superiority of 2/1.
    B. Base cap.

    Added features of the “death match”:

    A. All opponents location shown on minimap.
    B. Relocation of the base to cap to a random location (anti-bot feature)
    C. Reset of Hit points/Ammo/Consumables when “death match” is triggered.
    D. When “death match” is triggered all penetration values of all the players are equalized to a preset high level that allows them to take on any opponent.

    This could work as a added option to all of the modes. Ticked in by default and could be opted out of at will in game settings.

    This added option is in my opinion the only viable option for decreasing the amount of “bad” games where MM had randomly achieved a skill superiority for one team. The amount of voices for “skill MM” (which in any iteriation would not solve anything and mess upp players statistics) should decrease.

    The after game results the two modes would count seperately. Last man standing could receive a medal and total ammount of xp/credits earned by the teams.

      Added features of the “death match”:
      E. Anyone who died in the game before the reset would respawn with the same tank. This is too make sure that platooning is still alive if this where to be introduced.

    This is generally an issue due to the fact, that the side which is ore agressive on a big scale (which means, full force) wins extremely easy.
    What is some trouble here is some lack of balanced playerskill (im not implying to have copy-teams) but generally spoken there shouldnt be battles where one side clearly has an anvantage in terms of playerskill, thus busting the moral to fight properly for some individuals on the other team… giving them an even bigger advantage.

    - Finishing every line + getting every T10 and keepers to 3rd skill

    Trouble here will be: Playerskill balance! The “back to garage” droprate will be massive if there are uneven teams and you clearly know you wont win anthing when trying to fight 20-30 minutes.

    Depending on how many tanks there are and what the Matchmaker will be (solo one Tier / one class?) I think id give it a shot… but i would prefer not to fight T9 tds with a T8 heavy or something similar stupid.

    “something without cap” like Search and Destroy.

    Each team getting (instead of a Capcircle) something like 2-3 Trucks with important load. Those trucks will spawn randomly in specific areas, cannot be damaged by the own Team.
    The enemy needs to find those trucks and destroy them, whilst they have like about the HP of a top-tier Heavy.

    Those trucks can just be unveiled by getting closer than 100m to them.
    Restriction: No arty in this mode, because they could barrage the area after the spot and thus render the defense useless.

    Lack of incentive of corporation. You see, there is no point of working with your team most of the time, and you can just do your own thing. Being a good guy does not neccessarily help you to win, for example you try to take a shot for your top tier, but they still suck out or fail for whatever reason (I am not requesting skill MM!), and you may just keep yourself alive and try to do it by yourself. You don’t get rewarded for being a team player. I am perfectly fine with a team of newer players IF they are willing to communicate and work as a team. There are just way too much lone wolf out there that all they care is damage and kills, and the problem is that will probably make you grind faster and make your stats look better. I would be very interested to see anything the devs can do. BTW, Please don’t implement skill MM, that will only lead to more whine and I don’t see it being really effective.

    I think it should be tested Very carefully when implemented. You see, as you mentioned, early leavers are inevitable, and the team will be at a disadvantage when they have too much of them. Secondly, How do you balance teams? A person may have A full garage of Mediums, while the other one may have All the T10 TDs. When a team is full of heavies and the other is full of Mediums, the only thing that seperate that become the map and RNG of the MM. Is it fair to have a Full team of Mediums on Malinovka and the other team got the German’s heavies? In a extreme case SPGs vs Mediums? In general, I think the Garage battle idea is a good try, but there are too much issues it may arouse to make this mode another Confrontation. I hate to compare, but War Thunder’s planes can be implemented successfully is because a team of bombers CAN still WIN a game by bombing out all the bases, while a team of fighters and eleminate All enemy aircrafts. WOT does not work like this. Tanks cannot move like planes, and not to mention the targets to win is completely different. NO TANK can win a game by itself. Every tank in the team is interdependent.

    Thats unfair to some kind of tanks, unless it is divided by classes. Also, even if you will only play against same type of tanks, not only it’s quite boring after a while, some tanks will dominate while others will suffer. For example, the T49 with the 152mm will lose every time against the other T8 light tanks if it does not one shot kill them. It will get chewed up very quickly. Another example will be American tanks, as they cant go hull down because they dont have any teammates to cover their flanks, which make them a easier target and unfair to them. There are numerous example of this, so I think the devs should be very careful on this.

    I don’t really have an opinion on this as I don’t really understand. I think it should be tested very carefully first. Again, we don’t another HB or Confrontation.

    Fun modes and PvE modes. They do not require a team to work together or support each other. You can simply just hop in and have some fun.

    I know the devs are already working on PvE HB mode, but I think this is way not enough. Take Call of Duty as an example, their Zombies mode are among the most popular game mode of Call of Duty History. Why not try something out of the cycle of WOT? May be you will start off with a T-34 or and Sherman, and then you will fight against rounds after rounds of increasingly difficult opponents (Bots of course), and in the process you can choose either upgrade your tank (e.g. 75mm M3 –> M1A1 76mm) or simply upgrade your tank. There can be fantasy armament (e.g. 128mm on a Nashorn, a 170mm on a Jagtiger) and devs do not need to worry about balancing issues, as the bots will not whine! Also, the tanks that are so-called impossible to balance can be implemented via this mode! Sturmtiger, German Fatasy tanks or even a P-1000! They can act as bosses and I am sure that there are lots of very talented people will try thier very best to beat such things, and it will be really cool for the community side of things too. Devs can put in rewards for getting ot certain level (Unique tanks, Unique Camo, Unique title, Unique Historical Battle, or even consumables will be fine, for me at least), and this can attract more people not interested in tanks but intersted in survival kind of things to join the game. It will be refreshing to play too, as it will not affect your stats and not as competitive as Random or Clan wars.

    Tier matchmaking is wonky – mismatched numbers of high tiers is really random. I don’t see why it should ever happen, with the possible exception of +-1 at low pop times.

    Strangely, I think platoons are the biggest problem, but it kind of feeds into skill MM – a top vs a bottom tier platoon or a unicum vs a terribad platoon just skews the game massively. Platoons have a disproportionate impact on the success of the team, so matching a good one or a top tier one vs a bad or low tier one makes an absurd difference.

    Stats. Grinding through tanks for more CW/7s tanks. Having good games. Missions are secondary, but when they’re worth doing, grinding them.

    Garage battles sound profoundly idiotic. Bad tank for the map? suicide it away and pick a better one. Play would be frustrating – you go from winning a flank to suddenly losing because a ton of full hp tanks spawn nearby. I do not see any positive about garage battles.

    I don’t think it is something I would play. It could be fun to waste time in, but that is all it would be – wasting time. The game is, really, a team game. I do not see why you would want to FFA it.

    Potentially intresting, but one of the draws of the game, currently, is that the games aren’t long – I can play one game between other things.     I almost NEVER farm missions, unless there’s a mission that really, really interests me. I usually want to win, I don’t care so much about padding my stats. I do grind for exp, but very rarely do I feel like it’s a grind (only a few tanks, and arty takes too long to move from one tier to the next) because I like the game. I also do grind for credits, but I only ever do that in tanks I enjoy and would play anyway. Finally, I seal club on occasion when MM is giving me terrible teams in the higher tiers.

    It sounds fun. I’m sure it will have hiccups, but it sounds like a great idea. I would like to see it in lower tiers, too (higher population, less queue time). I’m not afraid of leavers until it proves to be a problem.

    This sounds like a bad idea, unless the number of tanks is small (e.g. 4-6), and a few tanks will absolutely dominate this (e.g. tier 8 lights with gold will avoid confrontations and pick off survivor). Maybe if all tanks were the same, and smaller maps built specifically for this mode were used, it could work. I think it would be too much work for an unpopular mode. If you made it a practice mode, that could be fun. Also, maybe if there were 5 teams of 6 tanks?

    NO. This is a bad idea. MOBA communities in general are awful. WoT community is currently pretty tame/friendly, compared to other online games. I also don’t see how you could create a good MOBA using tanks.

    Solo and platoon are both great.

    Territories. Have four or five neutral flags and make them quick-captures (say, 20-30 seconds depending on map size). First team to score 8 minutes (or whatever proves to be a good time) wins. Make the neutralizing/decapturing of the flag take only 5-10 seconds. Possibly force teams to leave a tank on the cap or it will slowly neutralize/decap. If this proves too difficult for randoms, try it with Stronghold where teams should be at least a little better at working as a team.

  79. 1) Player quaility is the most lacking feature of the random battles. The disparity of knowledge among players is so massive that it becomes quite catasthropic for the “old guard”, who played the game for a long time and has witnessed the changes. The “newbies” nowadays are just pressing battle, going forward, firing 2-3 shells and dying. This is the killer factor for these people, which makes these people feel frustrated and leave the game.

    2) Personally, I’m not playing anymore, but when I did, it was for having fun. I have enough gold, money and tanks, so I’m just playing for fun. But, the “newbies” are always ruining it though… (Had my IS-8′s WR dropped to 48,43 to 47,99 in a day, because of AFK’ers and death-rushers)

    3) If I were you, I’d push the developers to fix the current mistakes done about the random battles. The game has enough features to make a 15yr old giggle in joy.

    7) Since the game is about only tanks, I suggest of creating a “Frontline” mode, where a team defends a wave of enemies with different layers of defensive positions in line towards a cap. There’s a tactical strategy game I’m playing which has this mode for its’ multiplayer and it is pretty hardcore.

    I just hope that they’ll fix the damn game so I can come back and keep seal-clubbing hard play like I wanted to.

  80. 1) Nothing is super-wrong but some maps have balance issues that favour one side over the other due to map differences. I like asymmetrical maps and gameplay but they are tougher to balance and more work needs to be done on this.
    2) In order of preference from most to least: Winning, Killing Enemies, Dealing Damage, Capturing The Base
    3) Garage battles are…interesting. I’ve been playing some WT lately and by experience there is that they are tricky to do well.
    4) Not a good idea. WoT does not lend itself to FFA gameplay unless you plan to add respawns and even then it’s too slow paced to be a good fit.

    6) Platoons are the best way to achieve consistent wins if you’re a decent player but if you’re a poor player they don’t help. Even as a decent player one sometimes just wants to solo.
    7) I like the idea of a game mode similar to the old Assault from the original Unreal Tournament. One team defends while the other attacks and attempts to achieve goals. As the attacker completes goals the battle moves to different locations on the map. This could be decent way to add garage mode to WoT as players would probably need a few respawns to be able to play this mode decently. I think this would also give the WoT devs some interesting garage mode options. E.g. Imagine a map were initially the attackers must scout the enemy lines using light tanks in order to locate the “weak spot” in the map defenses (Can be randomised with each match). The next phase requires the attackers to use their heavy tanks & TDs to break through the weak point before switching to meds & lights for the final mop-up phase. The defenders, on the other hand, use a mix of lights and meds in phase one to try and repel the scouts. During phase two they need TDs and meds while the final last-stand phase they use heavies and TDs.

  81. 1- Current problems in random battles: MM hiccups, stated by previous commentators.
    Outside of MAYBE assaults, situation like: team with 10tds and 5 other tanks vs team with 10heavies with 5 other tanks shouldn’t take place.
    Same as: team1 gets 1 tierX HT as a top tier, team2 gets 1 tierX SPG as a top tier. I saw it happen few times, and it worked for the SPG team only once, since the HT was a red baron that face-checked 3 spgs including one tier10, which went to the heavy tank line and TD-moded the living sh-t out of him. :P Sadly, that’s not the case as often as you would like it to be.
    Also: some medium tanks like Centurion1 apparently have the MM weight of a heavies, and i found it terrible when my Cent1 got matched against an IS-3, KV-4, Tiger2 and so on. Despite all my best intentions, i couldnt push flanks in this setup. You could argue that in TB or TC a Cent could counter brawler-type HTs, but this is RB, sooo nope.
    IIRC Chi-Ri also had this issue, and whoever wants a Chi-Ri to go against a peek-a-boom IS or hulldown T29 needs to reconsider their life choices.

    + i would like to see a % limit of how many premium shells each player can carry in RB. Make it similar to the limits from the Historical battles and i’ll be a happier man. I dont play TB, TC or CW, so i dont care about how they are balanced in terms of prem ammo, but i would like to see it limited in RB.

    2- Goals in RBs: #1 if there is a worthy grind event/missions, with time constrictions, then grind like a madman. IS-6 mission, T26e4 mission, some of interesting “top of the tree” weeks, things like that.
    #2 if there is nothing good going on in event/mission department- try to acquire tanks im interested in, because of their “stronktenk-quality” or “fun-factor”. Sometimes it take a lot of time(like in the case of Leo1), other times i get what i want rather fast- as in the case of the Pz1c once it got introduced. In such case, i play like 2-3 tanks in a rotation.
    #3 if the aren’t any interesting missions(mostly ones focused on designated scouts and god-forbid-SPGs) and i’m fed up with grind: take out one of my elited tanks and just play for fun, and by fun i mean: WIN. BIG. It mostly consist of tier 5-8 MTs and HTs, but lately i went back to playing more of tier5-7 TDs and tier3-4 LTs.
    Occasionally, i try to go against the current and play tanks that most ppl seem to consider as bad: currently being M3Lee, Jgpz4, Churchill7, and try to get good scores in them. Statpadding them, so to say. I plan to become a worthy successor of a player “Kolaski”.
    #4 if i dont feel like playing any particular tank for fun factor, i just try to get Ace tankers on all tanks i ever played(right now it means mostly tier1-4 tanks from the earliest grinds on my account). So again a grind of sorts.

    3- Garage battles: not interested TBH.
    With this whole premium ammo thing rendering much of armor useless, and having strict consequences for leaving mid-game, i feel like garage battles would drag the pain for too long. One of main “pros” of the WoT, compared to for example LoL is that when the match goes bad then im back in the garage after 5mins, not having to prolong the pain for additional 15mins. I probably would play a game or two in this mode, but wouldnt bother too much unless proved necessary for some reason.

    4- FFA- im getting focused on because of the XVM enough already, no thanks. Ban the ingame-xvm and i might reconsider it.
    Unless it would be a “fatal 4 way” kind of battle, with specific new tank made for this gamemode(same as previous “sport” versions of Chaffee and T62a).

    5- Iiii don’t have an opinion on the topic. I’m not thrilled about the concept since i don’t really get how it would look. Maybe with more info i would get interested. I don’t know if i want it untill i see it. :P

    6- I don’t understand the question, this “suitable for tanks” section.

    What i want to see is reintroduction of the fun modes, at least from time to time. For now, from the 3 we had, i liked Race the most, not only because it was fun but also proved as a outstanding way of training new crews, Karl being second because of the tempo of the game and football the one i didn’t like.
    Also, i want historical battles back. Problem with them was that there was little incentive for player to play “not top tier tanks” in them. Personally i played only tier5-2 tanks in them, with a good effect when it came to Pz4/Stug3/Pz3 and M4 to lesser degree.

    The brits vs germans HB was done properly, because:
    a- there was only 1 HB battle to choose from, so those “few” people interested in HB weren’t split between 3 options, SOOO more people populated the queue,
    and b-more of avaible tanks were viable in those scenarios. For example on prokhorovka it was mostly tiger vs su152, noone tried to play T-34, Pz4 and KV-1s, and im not even going to talk about lower tiered tanks, so waiting in queues took too long. In case of the brits vs germans however, i didn’t have to wait longer than a minute during day/evening, no matter which tank i took, aside from matilda maybe. But as for germans and tier3 brits, i went in with whatever i came up with in short time.
    So just give 1 HB mission at a time, change it once in every week or two, give bigger rewards for playing specific tanks(t-34, pz4, m4, pz3, so on). Would it be possible to show, which tanks exactly are in the queue or “which tanks are needed most for MM right now”? Maybe that would make nobrainers change their beloved Tigers or Ferdies to something smaller?

    Also, as for HB with AI tanks- i’m all about that, i want to try it. However i dont know how it would look like, would it be some kind of “tower defense” thing, where you have to withstand increasingly harder waves of enemies rushing forward? Or maybe it would be players on both sides, where AI would drive either the top tiers on each side(so those tigers would play a role of “raid bosses” for bunch of t-34 drivers to take down) or it would be players driving the top tiers and AI driving low tiered tanks, so it would be a little bit like “Dynasty warriors”, where players are basically gods of war and death, slaying hordes of cannon fodder left and right, sometimes facing enemy players as a kind fo generals/bosses?

  82. 1) More varied average damages across all gun calibers and length calibers based on muzzle velocity, for example 75L100 on panther should deal a bit more damage like 5-10 than 75L70 or 122mm D-25T dealing a bit less than 122mm BL-9 for example 370. For a game this old about TANKS i think its time for tanks to feel like tanks… the most important aspect of a tank its terrain passability and watching the treads come to a STOP instead of fighting the terrain to continue moving forward or up some steep slope its such a turn down… Also i suggest the introduction of cards accessible only to premium accounts that allow for example a player to be top tier in the next battle, or get in a non arty battle, or choose a specific map or get a specicifc amount of experience or credits for the next battle and so on.. this cards would be rare to get like only 1 each 10-15 battles and would prerequisites to get, for example a card for a non arty battle you would ned to get into 10 battles with 3 artys in each side to get sutch a card, then you could use it with any tank for example to use with Maus, this would be a further incentive for people to use premium account, and wouldnt be game breaking or bring serious advantages compared to non premium account users.

    2) I have been grinding since the game was released but i also care about high stats, im a super unicum without ever trying mutch to have that good stats and something that annoys me its the way vehicles are balanced… they are balanced for noobs to play them not for their actual potential in battle, simple example is T95 vs T30, T95 is very limited in what in can do in the vast variety of battles it gets into, while a T30 in the hands of a good player has unlimited potential, offcourse the global stats will say they are both balanced… in the hands of the average noob T95 doent have mutch skill to play… while a T30 will simply require something more than just rushing forward and engaging the enemy in a random spot… something that noobs can do with T95 becuase of limited speed.

    Class restrictions for specialized tanks per team and platoon like
    - artillery -> max 2
    - tank destroyers -> max 4
    - scouts (not necessarily lights in general) -> max 3
    - autoloaders -> max 2

    These classes are very specialized and highly capable in their discipline opposed to alrounders like mediums and the usually unflexible heavy tanks.
    Too many tank destroyers and artillery lead to static games, too many autoloaders especially if limitied to one side are too much firepower in short notice that can decide a match all to easy. Either that or better balancing between classes which doesn’t mean that nerfing artillery and tank destroyer potential to an extend as we have it now that a single vehicle is rendered almost uncapable to defend itself in some cases.
    This is a major disappointment in random games being dependent on team effort while there is none in 80% of the random games.
    Autoloader mediums with speed and firepower and no real threats due to the disadvantages of other classes being increased with every new patch even supports solitairy and selfish gameplay.

    So there needs to be a whole new thinking about balancing classes.

    Another really annoying issue…
    Platoons sporting extremely inferior tiers in high tier battles aka “Fail platoons”
    There should be restrictions for specific vehicles in random (only) to enter certain stages beyond their capabilties. You cannot expect people to decide reasonably – let’s face it; most players are either ignorant or plain incapable – practice proves this claim.

    I think it won’t work – at least with players 30 max – especially due to the small maps. People either spawn in bulks and certain tanks would be without a chance to even leave the death pit and if spawned in individual spots the current layouts still leave some tanks in very disadvantaged positions.

    Also it would become quite boring soon as only a limited selection of tanks will prevail as
    lone wolf.

    A tournament mode would require its own map balance maybe even ammo type restrictions and other traits. To make it interesting there would have to be power ups (repair, healing etc) spread around the map or as reward for a destroyed enemy.

    5) What do you think of a team PvP Battleground mode with checkpoints (MOBA without AI)

    That would be cool. Real missions with checkpoints and the need to re-capture or hold certain points to pass or advance to a another point would be much more interesting and more in-depth. A good example for such game principles is heroes & generals.

    I think this concept is better suited for clan/team based battles though as random battles with the simple random team efforts of defending/capturing/annihilating only one target already proved to be problematic.

    It was already mentioned that historical mode might return as PVE.
    I’m not sure if that is a good idea. historical mode should be team/clan based as there is potential for historical caln gaming in almost any WWII/WWI themed game. Wtih all the good and bad sides of course…

    Within a setting as discussed in #4 a tournament seems to be also likely to be adopted by teams/platoons as in team deatchmatch/CTF.

    As already mentioned I like the idea already given in #5 in a battleground setting.
    Having stages or real mission objectives is most likely to liven up the overall experience.
    Expanding on the idea it should be considered to connect maps via missions – these could even be in a historical context.
    Building a bridgehead/landing and in case of victory proceed the battle in another stage/map. This could be sort of a campaign mode.

    I see 2 problems:

    1: Total lack of coordination and team-play. Almost everyone is playing on his own – yep, it’s random but still…

    2: Most players are unable to use their tanks properly in general – I’m not saying there about weak spots aiming, hull down, side scraping etc. but about using tank according to its role.
    By it I mean – going to proper position on map and doing proper job. How many times have we seen YOLO autoloaders on 1st line, top toer HTs sniping from map corner, arty going to unsecured flank, lights spotting own cap. medium going against HTs/TDs frontally and TDs camping behind arty.

    Yes, it’s caused by lack of skill and elemental knowledge about game mechanics. But: skill MM would not solve this problem, just make it less visible for better players as they would not face brainless tomatz as often as now.

    Would I’d like to propose is a new game mode – well, new function in game

    COMMANDER GAME MODE

    I imagine this as 16th player in team, who do not play tank but has a RTS game mode. And with proper interface can give certain orders to his team:

    While battle counting he can give orders to tanks – like move to this position – and after battle starts each of players see what Commander what him to do – as a minimap marker or marker on map.

    Having limited free camera – kind of arty mode and options to set commands during battle like – focus fire /attack/stop/ go there/ blablabla etc will give commander a control of battlefield.

    For sure – what we need is to make players obey commands – so they can be rewarded by exp or silver by being in specified area / moving when ordered etc.

    Reward for commander shall be in free exp and credits – just make a algorithm.

    From where take commanders?
    Kind of easy: 1st implement it in CW/stronkhold mode. And let use commander game mode only those players who fulfill certain conditions: for example 55% WR when commanding stronks/cw and playing at least 100 battles.

    Then You can implement it into Team Batles thus giving acces to this mode for those no-clan guys.

    And after that time try to use it on randoms.

    I’m pretty sure it will improve overall play style, will give more competitive battles and will lead to make game better.

    Splitting the attackers spawn point on assault maps weakens the attacking force and gives the defense even more of an advantage. Please consider making one spawn point for assault maps instead of two or three.

    Additionally I think part of the problem with random battles is not so much skill MM but tank role in the MM process. Consider the AMX 50-120 compared to the E75. They fill two separate roles on the battlefield but the MM seemingly treats them as the same. A medium tank will get paired against a heavy tank in a city map. In an open field map a medium tank can match up better against a slow heavy but in a city map the medium is limited in their ability to contribute. I would love to see tanks assigned a primary role and have this role provide weight to how teams are distributed. So an E75 in a city map has a higher weight rating compared to a Leopard PT-A on the same map. Player skill has no involvement in the match making rather the way the tank is designed would have influence on the team composition.

    I try to play smart and play to the strengths of whatever tank I’m driving. I hope for my team to have an idea of how to play the map which can result in fun. While I would like to win the entire concept of a random team means I can’t pin my hopes on winning, rather I hope at least half the team can be semi-coordinated and that I can contribute my share.

  91. MM is the biggest bugbear,I just had a streak in which my win rate dropped from 50.24 to 50.18 in 1 session,this was due to having win % as low as 18%,MM should enforce a min tolerance of -/+ 10% on win rate,or enforce a balance over a set number of matches (10?)
    ,and I’m ashamed to say its the first time i’ve rage quit ,but it was due to matchmaking, the other is language,the EU server has hundreds of diffrent languages ,and on the fly translator chat is required.if this continues I will not be buying another year of premium…match should be a challenge,but very few can carry like Quickybaby…

    Two things. First, XVM will show a battle with a 60-70% win chance. Inevitably these are massacres. They are no fun. If you are on the losing side you are beaten decisively. If you are on the winning side, it requires no skill, you are just running round trying to do damage quickly for experience and silver before your daily double is over far too quickly. WG needs to adjust the MM some how to stop these heavily unbalanced games. Ones that show as 45% win chance in XVM, you may even win, but in any event they are still hard fought, test skill, are fun, and for the winners good for silver and experience. Therefore even if “no skill MM” WG needs to recalibrate it’s own internal MM numbers to avoid the heavily unbalanced games.
    Second, I know it’s said to be coming, but light tanks need to be less about damage dealt, and more about spotting. Currently maps and view range conspire against this, and they tend to get played as damage dealers.
    2) What are your goals in random battles? (grinding, high stats, farming missions…)
    First, I like to see my overall winrate increasing. Second, I like to see myself advancing down the trees to get tier X tanks. Third, I like to have good crews on my tanks. Fourth, I want to have fun, so tend to play the tanks I enjoy more often than ones that I do not.

    Very difficult to answer this question, because so much will depend on implementation. Look at what happened with historical battles. I very much liked the concept of the historical battles, but not enough players could be enticed to play them, and so the queues became overly long. Part of the success of WoT is instant PvP. If garage battles have long queues then they will fail. My guess is that WG will need to “bribe” players into garage battles or the mode will not succeed. Playing a tier X in a random is instant. The downside is the cost in silver. To entice tier X players into garage battles may require them to be profitable, and I am not sure how that fits with WG business plan.

    No way would I play this mode personally. Even in random matches I have assault and encounter turned off as generally the rest of my time will often make irrational decisions, and it is harder for me to compensate. In normal mode I can attempt to cover for errors made by the rest of my team.

    As above, this would come down to implementation. If done correctly it might be interesting for organised play as an option, but if implemented wrong may not get any customers. But if CW is running, and Stronghold mode is already killing off team battle mode, why have another competitor to those two for organised play, unless it becomes a sub-mode to one of those two.

    Most of the games that I play are solo. Normal random games work best for me to enjoy myself.
    I would like a return of HB mode. As some commentators have noted above I think WG might have been over ambitious at the start when they provided so many. I would say have one HB run for two weeks at a time. Give suitably generous rewards for playing the HB that it picks up a player base. After say six months WG could tone down the rewards for the HB. But at the beginning WG would need to make the rewards generous, so as to gain that base. Thus during the 14 day period win three battles in a day gain (a few repair and first aid kits or something), complete the three battles on five days (out of the fourteen) and win 250,000 credits or something comparable.
    Other than solo therefore HB is the most suitable.
    7) If you want to, make a proposition for your own mode for random battles (like assault, encounter etc.)
    Option 1 would be games that are all one type of tank ie heavy. Obviously you could not have SPG mode, so it would be limited to light, medium, and heavy. I think it might be fun.
    Option 2, limit teams to one nation ie Soviet. I imagine that this would work for Germany, Soviet, American, UK and French, less sure it would work for China and Japan as they do not have full trees.
    Option 3 special modes. On a personal level I did not like Karl. I thought that the 62A football was a clever concept, well thought out, reasonably well executed, and fitted in with the world cup nicely. Personally I did not enjoy it that much. Chaffee racing was my favourite of the three, but I believe it would be playable about once per year and no more. The only one I could think up would be a winter sport option (probably link it to either a classic FIS ski race or the winter Olympics). Again you would need a special tank. It might require a special map. It would need to be VERY hilly and steep. To gain height, tanks would need to get onto to a form of drag tow (some resorts have “magic carpet” for beginners), to pull them up. The drag lines would need to be in cuttings to make those going up immune to being shot. The special tanks could only shot when going down a hill ( and not when trying to go up). Nor would they be able to shoot if on level ground, or if stationary. Thus all shooting would have to take place on the move. The tank would need to perform going down hill like a skier or snowboarder. Think of the old SSX game for inspiration or watch a film by Greg Stump.

    In Conclusion.
    I like having mods to do things, this is an advanage to WoT. XVM is usefull please do not ban it.
    I like many players hate arty. I know you WG will not remove it, but keep it to a minimum, and never reward people for playing it.
    More lines and more nations is a good thing.
    Map varities are also a good thing.
    Silver shells and premium shells are a good thing and seem well balanced. It is important that players should make tactical decisions, about how many they put in each individual tank, and when to fire each different type of shell. -MAYBE make a tutorial that requires players to switch between AP for a medium, APCR for a higher tier heavy, and HE for a thin skinned tank, point out the difference in cost and profitability in the tutorial!
    Boosting crew skills as missions etc. is a good thing for longer term customer retention, since skilled crews are important to players who have a number of tier Xs.

    One of the biggest problems is completely BAD geometry of terrain and buildings. As much as the terrain issue is just a matter of detais, there is NO god explanation why buildings have DIFFERENT collision model than the visual model. I wasted plenty of shells shoting through buildings that were not in the way in terms of visual model, but collision model was bscuring my vision. In a random battle that is almost a matter of taking out a dangerus enemy or not, that could be an asset of the enemy team.
    Another issue is lack of proper team deployment. Sometimes You get 10 morons stuck in ONE map square that all love the same camping place and they refuse to think about any other position. If there would be a system that would encourage spreading out and covering all flanks etc., all battles would be much more enjoyable.

    2) What are your goals in random battles? (grinding, high stats, farming missions…)
    First: trying to avoid my own team, as I get shot in the back or get morons moving into my line of fire because of their lack of situational awareness, the second is to avoid any conversations in the chat due to massive amount of haters, racists, kids and people out only to insult others. After I mamange to do that … it’s probably just doing as much damage as possible, ahile “fraghunters” can do their one shots ;)

    3) What do you think about garage battles in random and garage battles in general? (on tier 10 for example) – if you like it, why? Aren’t you afraid of leavers?
    It’s a shame that there will be no wreckage left after a tank kill. Maybe in some areas that are vounreable to block WG should simply add a “blowup” effect that clears out the wreck from that certain point, but some maps (like steppes or malinovka) would only benefit from destroyed tanks being lest after their destruction. Disappearing tanks do not make these garage battles any different from playing just two random battles one after another.

    4) What do you think of a FFA (free for all, deathmatch – not duel) mode? On tier 8,9,10
    FFA could be fun only with a pretty low player limit, and light/medium tanks would dominate that mode as the only two “classes” that can always win a duel by running around another tank. Maybe a team deathmatch with constant respawn, but that’s the same as garage battles. Much better would be some sort of “zone control” mode with 10 small cap points that would require to capture 7 or 8 out of 10 to win.

    MOBA? I play WoT exactly because it is NOT anyway close to a MOBA ;)

    MOBA is a fun type of game, you cant go wrong with mobas.

  96. 1) Missing: More and better tutorials. The game mechanics are way to unintuitive to not have a proper explaination for e.g. spotting mechanics, armor penetraion, RNG.
    I still believe arty as an anti camper tool is way too accurate when it comes to hit moving tanks at the front while using terrain features as cover against other tanks.
    An alternative game mode to grind tanks.

    2) Fun and leveling.

    3) I would play garage battles and like to see more gamemodes in WoT. Leavers could undergo the same quit punishment system like in random battles.

    4) Deathmatch could be very chaotic and a lot of tanks aren’t really able to take fire from any other direction but frontal. The hole game is more or less based on frontal confrontation so I think there are some issues with a deathmatch mode where you have to expect fire from all directions.

    5) Love it. Do it.

    6) Platooning. Most fun working in small packs.

    7) Some kind of escort mode could work. Checkpoints with ticket counters. Search and destroy, with upcomming destructable buildings that could be a thing.

    -XVM – ban it already – make comiunity very toxic – insults over stats etc.
    - restriction to platoon tiers – max 2 – so no more tier X with tier I etc.
    - biger maps with more posibilities to play
    - LT – make them more usefully other than just spotting

    As a side not – make a exam after tier V for players so they have to prove they understand at least half off the game and know what map is for (this should be covered in tutorial btw)

  98. 1) Not much, really. I do have a friend who finds that facing a team utterly stacked with autoloaders is OP, but I’m just the messenger on that.

    2) Getting money for necessary tanks and currently grinding for more tier 10s.

    3) I like the idea a lot because this would essentially be a 45v45 tank battle. This would open up a lot of cool things you could do, and you can work with some trial and error to get what you want to do done. Also this would support scouts a helluva lot more. More chances to fix your screwups, more HP to spot.

    4) Other people would like it. I want teams.

    5) Don’t care. Never was into DOTA. Sounds almost like a shoehorn but hey, I don’t give a shit if you try it.

    6) Platoons. Tanks have playstyles that don’t mesh to the maps. Having an organization that allows you to tailor a platoon package to deal with more scenarios is the easiest way to Open up the opportunities of working in a game that is almost entirely team oriented.

    7) Maneuver Warfare. All mediums, all scouts. Final destination. You know you love you some T-54 hellhordes, WG: Make it happen.

      Gold rounds are a frustrating problem. I get why someone would spew it all over my E-75 or whatever, but there are times where I’m driving some tank that’s inconceivably fragile and I’ll get 4 people who fire an intense amount of gold my way. Scouts, Leo 1s, M46 Pattons, and other paper tanks. It just doesn’t seem like a few people really care about what sort of ammunition they put into their breech when they have an IS-6 or other premium tank with a dazzling amount of silver income. I’ve had several IS-6 drivers tell me they’re sitting on over 10 million credits and they dump it on gold.

      I find this to be a problem because there are many times where I do my best work to protect myself, mind all my angles and present the worst armor facing to the enemy, only for him to completely ditch an entire element of gameplay and sink massive amounts of credits into me instead of bothering to aim correctly.

      I don’t think it’s an epidemic, but you really should go and see how gold works especially at top tiers, because it’s a very easy way to completely ignore an vital component of the game. Perhaps something like an exponential price increase? 1 premium round is 200, 2 is 800, 3 is 2400, and so on?

    Maybe some sort of goal/responsability for different class, example: A light tank would have to spot X # of enemy if he wants a certain part of his xp so they start scouting like they should do. Meds and heavies would have to move a certain distance or engage a minimum to get a bonus xp, TD would get their bonus by not being detected or not making close encounter… Overall, some medals gets awarded for those actions, what if players would have to do them required action, I think this would look more like a team than everyone doing their own stuff. This could come with a more developped tutorial so newer players knows what they to do before getting in a battle. Of course all this could come with a bad side: some players thinking that they can’t do nothing else than what they were being instructed to.

    Platoon all the way. Although we do end up in a battle sometimes where everyone fullfill its role, thruth is in random, too many times in lower tier, players just don’t know what to do. Than the mm could match up only platoon that fullfill the need of a combat division.

    DUEL DEATHMATCH: like in NO base to capture.
    SERIOUS ONLY MODE: a mode where you have to be better and where after X report for not doing well ( at different moment to avoid those team rallying against one player for dubious reasons) that player would get that mode options blocked for X time, time during which he would still be able to play any mode. That could provide an environement that would satisfy those who wants skill base mm, without turning this game into a world where high stats players think this game belong to them.

    Just don’t pack players like in random, more like in teams. (for a more developped team play)

  106. 1) You should implement a skill based advancement system with an ability cap at certain tiers. Something like this:
    a) tier 1 – 5: No skill cap ( everybody can play those tiers and can research and buy tier 6 vehicles but can’t go into battle with the tier 6 untill they break the skill cap)
    b) tiers 6 – 8: WN8* > 700 ( u play your tier 5 untill u reach 701 WN8 then u can play tier 6 till tier 8 untill u break next skill cap)
    c) tiers 9 – 10: WN8 > 1000 ( at these tiers everybody will have a decent understanding of game mechanics etc)
    *WN8 only as a reference
    Another implementaition would be a per vehicle rating. Let ‘s say i start a soviet medium line where i play with no limits till i get t-34.In order to proceed (to be able to enter a battle) with a-43 (which i have researched – even with free xp – and bought, but currently is locked) i should reach a certain vehicle rating with my t-34. Now in my a-43 i should reach an even greater rating to proceed to a-44 an so onwards.

    IMO a system like this would produce better players overall as everybody would strive to get better in order to advance in game and be able to use all vehicles than just grinding to tier 10 (farming xp by doing absolutely nothing in game can take somebody to tier 10 now just by stacking low amounts of xp on each game).

    Premiums: No limits so another reason for a tomato to buy a tier 8 prem in order to play high tiers

    Also, it discourages the use of bots making them obsolete at least for xp farming.

    I ‘d like to see what others think about this

  107. 1) I think the arty cap should be lowered to 3. having 5 tier 10 arties per side on prokhorovka when in an e-100? not fun especially with the revolver arty perma tracking you for the others (add an extra second or 2 between shells for the 155 58 and that may fix it or remove 1 or 2 shells from the magazine) i also believe that Premium ammo should have a 25% damage reduction in comparison to regular ammo. another feature that would be nice would be the ability to choose a max of 3-5 maps you hate and remove them from your own personal rotation like the scumbags could remove himmelsdorf for example and i would personally remove all the versions of prokhorovka because im an aggressive player and the camping bush drives me nuts on that map.

    2) My goal in random battles are to have some fun and be a useful member of the team not some one who dies without doing any damage. (this rarely happens to me anymore and when it does its when i get 1 hit by arty once in a blue moon)

    3) i like the idea of garage battles it sounds fun but leavers and afkers would seriously handicap the team. also artys pre aiming the spawn points could be a serious problem. they could be pre aimed at the spawn points and have someone there 2 watch them and wreck an enemy team so that could be an issue.

    4) a free for all game mode sounds like it could be a lot of fun i would say max 10 players and it could work more than that and it could be a pain to play.

    5) i have never played a MOBA so im not 100% sure what that is but id still try it.

    6) i think a russian roulette style game mode could be fun. the idea would be that you would choose the tier at which you wanted to fight at then there would be a random cycle of vehicles from different nations at that tier each time you dies (you wouldnt need to own the vehicles but they would have 100% crews no equipment a 1/4 of their ammo would be premium but you wouldnt need pay to repair them but the credits income would be balanced accordingly but you would pay for the ammo). like of you choose tier 5 and you originally spawn as a kv-1 then when you die you could respawn in any other tier 5 like maybe a type t-34. this would be a free for all game with no kill limit just a timer and when the timer runs out the game ends and the most kills wins.

    7) a domination mode could be fun but arty couldnt be a feature in that mode as they would just bombard the points constantly making it impossible to cap them and run up the points needed to win. (this would require respawns and a battlefield style map where theres an area the enemies cant go to prevent spawn killing)

    – In my opinion, the biggest problem is that there are tanks that are not able to carry a game, if they are the only ones left on the team. What wins now is speed, DPM and maneuverability. Well armored vehicles simply cannot be compared o agile ones, armor is not a sufficient advantage anymore.

    – It is different for different vehicles. There are some that are played well in a platoon, and there are some that are played better solo. In general, I enjoy platoon battles more, only because of the fact that it requires communication and cooperation, thus challenging you not only as a ‘tank driver’, but as a tactician, and a teammate.

    – Random battle with more 3 or 4 teams, where only one can win. Although, it will require bigger maps, smaller teams, and longer matches.

  109. 1) Slow, well armored vehicles can no longer hold their own when on sufficiently poor teams, heavies have turned into 100% support dependent in randoms.
    2) I try to constantly improve and make profit on higher tiers without needing to have premium time.
    3) Garage battles would be nice in random battles since you will be able to choose a tank to fit the map, taking a Obj 140 on Malinovka instead of the Maus that you had queued in, and vice-versa on city maps.
    4) Certain tanks, such as T95 are meant to have support, this kind of match would need to be a garage battle mode to avoid breaking the game.
    5) This would require somewhat larger maps (1.5km by 1.5km).
    6) I feel like platoons improve play in general, whether some T71s in a wolf pack, an MT-25 scouting for an arty, or some heavies controlling a key area of a map. Since platoons provide better communication, they tend to make battles far more balanced.
    7) I think that a tug of war type battle would be interesting, where there are a series of checkpoints runs up a counter, and ones farther towards the enemy spawn speed up the counter. There would be a goal equivalent of 500-1k cap points to win. This would possibly be an amazing garage battle mode.

    Honestly, skill MM would fix a lot of things, but since that’s out, the biggest way we can improve random battles is to better prepare public players. To this end we need more robust training- perhaps like most games we could make all new players go through a “training” course first, that would teach them basic mechanics, tactics and strategies. Make this training necessary for every new account and make it comprehensive. Most of all get input from your top players on what the most important skills are- your current tutorial, for example, teaches new players how to use auto-aim (Which is situational and in a lot of cases a tool that will be utterly useless.) but doesn’t teach them how to angle their armor. Additional tutorials should show the tactics for certain types of tanks- when you unlock SPGs or TDs or Scout Tanks you should get a tutorial explaining what their roles are and basic strategy and tactics for them. Most importantly though, this training needs to be a core part of the new user experience- the problem with the current tutorial is that its completely optional and most players don’t bother playing it- they just jump right into the game and start shooting tanks- all to often though they just shoot the nearest tank at the start for team damage.

    2) What are your goals in random battles? (grinding, high stats, farming missions…)

    Depends- A lot of it is grinding Experience and Credits, though I also play public games, low-pressure experiences.

    Honestly, one of my favorite things about Warthunder is the fact that you have multiple lives- it gives you a lot more freedom to make mistakes and attempt bold, aggressive maneuvers that either get you killed or win the game.

    I’d love to see a “Small Unit” mode with 3-5 tanks a team on full-sized maps. For me, the most exciting part of a game is when the majority of the tanks have been destroyed- you have more freedom to move around the map and attempt to attack from unexpected angles. A mode with a small number of tanks would, I think, have much more dynamic play. The only question would be whether it should be like mini-team battles, or mini-public battles. (Should teams be formed by players, or automatically via a matchmaker?)

    at the same time i hate it because when im alone, most oranges-green(according to xvm) love to go all out as a platoon against blues or purples, even if they all die they feel satisfied as long as i die which kinda ruins my fun. xvm being my biggest issue because how people judge you over it rather than platoons itself, i feel as if no platoon should suicide to ruin a single persons game.

    so to conclude, both are good and bad.

    As a game designer i can reply at a very high level: multiplayer/social experience. There is no simple solution for that, but the problem is definitely solvable.
    Random battles require some team coordination, while the game doesn’t support it, to put it mildly. This leads to frustration levels unseen by other MMO games. WoT gameplay is brillant, so WoT is succesfull despite such obvious flaw, but how great it could be if the social experience was comparable to WoW or Warhammer Online.
    One can produce plenty of ideas how to simplify and encourge communication, cooperation and better manners. It could be adding some extra time after battle to socialize, congratulate and create relations, making encounters between particular players more often, promoting platoons, etc, etc. I’d be delighted if someone from WG asked me (=Nabzdycz, EU) for 100 ideas how to slove this problem.

  113. 1) Simply the unbalanced teams. There are FAR too many nearly one sided games. 0-15 games should not be a thing.
    2) I’m content just playing this game just to play it. Thing is, I like to win every now and then. When teams are as unbalanced as they are, having a team that can actually cover your back a little and win the game are fairly hard to come by nowadays.
    3) I’ve never been the biggest fan of this idea, and I can definitely see there being the threat of leavers. I guess I’m rather indifferent on that topic.
    4) Seems standard random battles are every man for himself anyways, so removing the green players really wouldn’t change all that much I guess. But being completely honest, this kind of mode actually seems like it would fit fairly well with the ‘garage battles’ format. Let people have a re-spawn or two so they aren’t afraid of getting stuck in.

    6) I quite like the encounter mode, if that is what you are asking. Assault seems like a good tank scenario, but in the ones I’ve played, the defending team seems to be at a decent advantage. I currently have it turned off.

    The ability to create platoons outside of normal MM spread. Pleasepleaseplease fix that, it only takes one troll to put a team at a disadvantage.

    Artillery needs to be fixed so it punishes turtling, rewards dynamic play and provides a better experience for the arty player.

    I’ve seen a lot more players giving away allied positions since it was removed from the report reasons. Bring it back, and have it checked automatically to see if that player mentioned a map square in all chat.

    There needs to be some way of reassuring players that reports are acted on. Maybe a page on the website in realtime listing banned players and the reason for their bans?

    Mostly grinding, but I’ve started fixing the damage to my stats that too many stock grinds at once caused.

    - Sounds like fun. WoT has always needed some tool to let players learn from their mistakes and while it may be late in the game, it can help a lot. It would require special maps, though, so you can’t spawncamp. Leavers wouldn’t be a problem if you add exp and credits per tank, encouraging you to stay in the fight so you can make up for a poor result in one tank by doing well in another.

    4) What do you think of a FFA (free for all, deathmatch – not duel) mode? On tier 8,9,10
    - Sounds like a terrible idea. The tanks are balanced around certain roles on the team and a DM mode will just encourage spamming tanks with high mobility and either high burst damage or high DPM in general (T62-A, T57 heavy, AMX 50B etc). If you ever make a Deathmatch, make it a special mode where everyone drives the same vehicle.

    - Please no. Just no.

    - Both are fine and serve different needs. Platooning increases your winrate dramatically if you’re good players to begin with, whereas solo play is more challenging and has the potential for more rewards. It’s very rare to pull off a Radley or Pool’s in a platoon because your friends will be killing stuff as well.

    1) There shouldn’t be any goldammo in random battles. Wanna pwn with low pen gun ? Learn to aim at weakspots.

    2) Goal ? Well to do my best while having fun – if it wouldn’t give me this thrill of enjoyment I wouldn’t play. Basicly if something does’t entertain me, it is burden and unwanted chore.

    3) Hate games with respawn mechanics, if you destroy something it’s destroyed, it doesn’t magically return to life (apart of zombie)

    4) No sorry, i don’t think it is good idea.

    5) Could be interesting, i hope those checkpoints would have defensive towers ? :)

Some of them could unlock even some events (like artylery fire). Controlling 3/4 of all poi would be additionall win option.

  121. 7) I propose a conquest mode. divide map into at lest 30 sectors. at the start of the battle each team has 33% of sectors already under their control and 33% unclaimed. to win team has to take over 80% of the map or kill all enemy tanks or hold most sectors when time expires/mutual destruction. to take over a sector there must be friendly sector connecting to it and no enemy tanks present, and you must stay in it for few sec.taking damage does not cancel a capture of it. IMO this mode would hopefully to a degree prevent rushes and leming trains, and would establish proper front line on battlefield. and it would eliminate draw

  122. 1. A means to select what maps we do or do not want to play on. Some of the maps are horribly unbalanced, with two kill funnels and dead ground in the middle. They are very unpleasant to play if you don’t enjoy heavies, or camping. So either let us opt out of maps, with the understanding this may leave people waiting longer in the queue, or get rid of the awful maps. Arctic and Severogorsk, I’m looking at you.

    Take the tiger 2 it gets the l71 stock which is great still and has decent mobility and health so if it gets those tier 10 matches it can still do something.

    Take the churchill 1 as an example when stock.
    No real mobility no real armor with so many easy shoots spaces less view range then competition and a horrid gun even for it’s tier.
    What is a player to do in a stock churchill in ier 7 but rip his own hair out from how mad he gets at the game?
    So I seriously suggest some tanks get a more relaxed mm during the stock grind.

    Sorry to say spg may not be addable to this but I still think this would offer something new and intense.

  124. 1. Random Battles have few problems, but the one thing that WG should fix is lopsided matches where enemies have way more top tiers, return battle tier12, and punish drowners even harsher!
    2.my mission in pub matches is to train team-play with my WGL team, basically find how to maximize information that’s usefull, and minimize useless information. Also for high stats, to get 3 marks on all my tanks.
    3.I have no idea how it’d work, but can only imagine you’d have to make maps that are bigger, and easiest way to not abuse it is to make elongated maps (1000×2000) for example.
    4.This isn’t Call of Duty.
    5.It could work out extremely well if you introduce certain mechanics specifically for the mode.
    6.I prefer solo in some tanks (62a/pershing/LTTB) but I prefer toons in tanks that are made for support, such as 50 100 and T28proto.
    7. I would love if you made a mode that had Victory Points or so to speak. basically put 3 or 5 special capture points on a map, and they slowly drain enemy VPs. Each team starts with 1000VP and capturing one of these special capture points drains enemy VPs. Kills would increase how many VPs you have by +50 or some other number. This would make aggressive play pay off and be interesting to watch.

      -gold ammo should be limited to a percentage of the ammo stack. may be %10 or less. gold rounds should be used if you have no other chance (for example if you are the last tank with your ıs-3 and you have to kill a tier 9-10 for win). for example E-100 with 15 cm gun and full of gold ammo is obviously OP for battles and servers are full of this. gold ammo absoultely removes the “armor” speciality of the tanks.

    a) Players – learning curve in WoT is far too long for a player to figure out what he need to do on every map with every class and subclass (heavy tank brawler, support heavy, hull downer etc.) in order to help his team to win.
    Instead of making youtube videos that many especially less IT educated players will never watch, make similar map loading screen to that in Armored Warfare which show best places for every class to be in with key strategic points (like arty have good reach from here, mediums should capture this hill, heavies with good gun depression will thrive here etc.). Currently in Wot is learning curve comparable to trial & error learning of newborn as in game tutorial missions are generally overlooked by players, so developers should include this advanced hint system that will improve all new players, not only few curious and less lazy ones…
    I don’t care about originality issues as AW is clear copy of WoT anyway and their game is not first to include this kind of advanced help during map loading. Better player base make much more difference than nice HD models or new tanks for majority of WoT players, as it improve gameplay for everyone who ain’t happy only during seal clubbing.

    b) Interface – missing features for
    Situational awareness
    -tank names on minimap
    -HP left of my teammates on sidebar in ideal case with additional info about damaged modules and crew out of action icons
    -Battles played in thousands (like 4K) of my teammates and enemies to better predict required strenght to survive enemy attacks from all (due in game trolling of dummies I understand why WG don’t want show players performance in game but at least battles played ain’t too much to ask).
    -EU is place of many nations and languages, especially young players often using localization and don’t know English even on basic level, more available commands that are automatically localized by game can somewhat improve this situation and enhance teamplay coordination.
    -Instead of ability to just turn chat on or off which is kinda overkill you should by able select multiple combinations: turning off chat from your enemies, dead allies ( often source of trolling about incompetent team from someone who fall first in battle) and dead enemies.

    This features available from day one following every new patch release without need to search for unofficial modes can reduce player frustration from choosing bad tactics thus making customers more happy and willing to return more often for active relax and not frustration.

  127. 1. The ridiculously large proportion of tier 9 and 10 tank destroyers in high tier games. Also, the old “HD-ish” models of the Russian tanks look more HD than the current HD models at long range. The old models made the tanks look like beasts of steel, while the new models make the tanks look like plastic tanks at long range. For example, before the Tiger I was made into HD, there were knots on the side of the tank, if you aimed between two knots, you ammo racked the tank. Since HD, we can’t even aim accurately for the ammo rack anymore, as the knots miraculously disappear at long range.
    2. My goals in random battles are high stats and grinding. Usually I don’t farm missions either because the missions are too hard, or they are not worth it, or both.
    3. I think garage battles would be great. If you stuff enough players into a large enough map into a game, leavers would not be a problem. Though crew locking would probably be a good idea for leavers.
    4. Free for all for mid tiers would be great, however, for higher tiers…not so much. Nobody would be driving anything but tier 10 and 9 tds.

  128. 1) Invisible tanks are very frustrating when you don’t have the view range, nobody is spotting anything and you just get pounded from multiple directions without any way to save your self or at least detect the enemy. Maybe if the enemy would get detected by you when they fire without moving from a bush 2 or more times it would be somewhat less frustrating.

    2) The overall goal is having fun, which is not always achieved, after that grinding and farming some missions.

    3) I don’t want garage battles in randoms. Random battles are pretty good the way they are even if not perfect. I think garage battles should more likely be linked to historical battles or some form of PvE.

    4) FFA could be either a very interesting and fun mode or an extremely frustrating one depending on how it is implemented. I can just imagine being in the best tank in the group or having the best stats (visible thanks to xvm) and everybody decides i’m the biggest danger and they band together and take me out in the first minute of the match. That wouldn’t be fun for me. Also everyone being in the same tank would be boring.
    Maybe this mode would be more interesting if you also have NPCs firing at everyone so you are always kept on your toes.

    5) Not entirely sure what that means, but could be interesting.

    6) Solo i think. I don’t fully understand the question.

    7) I have something in mind but it probably wouldn’t work that well and not be very fun, but here goes.
    A territory capture mode. The map is littered with a bunch of small capture bases. You capture one and you capture a specific swath of the map. Capturing that territory activates some NPC defensive guns in the area which can also be destroyed, but only after activation. Who captures the most territory and survives wins. You lose if all your team is killed, if time runs out and the other team is not wiped out and has more territory.

    During the “busy hours” of the evenings and early night Platoons tend to make or brake battles for a team. Exceptionally skilled platoons can easily sway the battle in one teams favour, while proportionally unskilled platoons can easily break the back of otherwise good (average) teamwork/gameplay. After all a platoon represents 20% of a teams combat power, in contrast to less than 7% for a single exceptional (in the positive or negative way) individual.

    2) What are your goals in random battles? (grinding, high stats, farming missions…)
    Generally: all of the above. Grinding is the staple of a player with (relatively) few unlocked branches, some missions are easily fulfilled by normal gameplay [as an intermission: These are the only "good" missions IMHO. Destroying X number of Tanks in Y amount of time generally tends to lead to killstealing and bad teamwork during the "busy hours". Requiring wins (and maybe XP/DMG) seem to be the only viable missions], good stats often relate to decent gameplay.

    3) What do you think about garage battles in random and garage battles in general? (on tier 10 for example) – if you like it, why? Aren’t you afraid of leavers?

    I personally think garage battles could be interesting [a novelty], though they are not neccessary, IMHO. The big “problem” I see is, that WoT is a game “optimised” for 5-10 minutes of gameplay a match. Any Garage battle should be based on teammaking concepts, like current Teambattles. Random players in these kind of gameplay will only increase the problems of normal Randoms, with “unhappy” players going AFK or suicide rushing or whatever.

    4) What do you think of a FFA (free for all, deathmatch – not duel) mode? On tier 8,9,10
    I am not at all intrigued by FFA concepts in WoTs gameplay. The game lives from the interaction of different tank’s pros and cons. There are/will be a few obvious “best choices” for FFA gameplay, making the mode uninteresting for me.

    5) What do you think of a team PvP Battleground mode with checkpoints (MOBA without AI)
    I personally would prefer more incentives/content for “single players” (that is non platooning, non teaming players), and not another “team” mode.

    6) What mode (solo or platoon, not requiring teams) is according to you the most suitable for tanks? Offer your own.
    As mentioned under 1) I think (size three and above) platoons can easily break/make battles in Random. Of course this also makes gaming as such a platoon intriguing. From what I see good platoon gaming increases manouvre during a battle and the will to take risks (in a well coordinated platoon one can always be sure to have at least some support) and is such technically desirable, except for the downsides of the huge impact of “good”/”bad” platoons.

    7) If you want to, make a proposition for your own mode for random battles (like assault, encounter etc.)
    Nope, thanks I am fine. Thinking about it, I’d rather use this place to argue against the reintroduction of the “national battle” concept [at least as a variant of Random play.]. With the (remaining) inheritend strenghts and weaknesses of the different nation’s tanks these battles were heavily depending on Map selection and Tiers. For example on Medium Tiers (5-7) a close quarters map strongly favoured the better armoured and higher Alpha nations vs those with (relatively) mobile snipers. While the “normal” medium/close range combat maps don’t adequately provide the same favour to “glass cannons”.

  130. 1. Ability to switch off chat in game options. I remember post on FTR when someone got his kid to play WoT, and was concerned about insults and other unpleasant stuff people write there.

    2. I used to grind for cash and XP to get next tank. Now I mostly try to fix my poor stats (about 49.2% win ratio), and make use of x3 or x5 bonuses on all tanks if possible. Montly famring missions like those for SuperPerhing or IS-6 are good thing, but I personally don’t have time for these.

    3. Garage battles seem like a way to make game more interesting, provide higher diversity. I didn’t consider problem of leavers before, but I guess it could be fixed by some sort of replacement. Or maybe continous battle system, when players get switched, given player fights untill all his Xs are destroyed, and gets rewarded based on control of checkpoints, dmg etc. High penalties for leaving garage battle would cause problems for people with poor connection/crashing client issues.

    4. Would stop people from entering battle and saying “lost” based on xvm stats. And they wouldn’t say it’s their team’s fault they lost.

    5. Good idea for next game mode. Would make game less boring.Could work nice with garage batles. Iw ould have to be balanced in different way (with 10 players, average win ratio would be low, so it needs seperate battle counter and stats).

    6. Maps with single-player or team objectives, could be randomly generated to some degree and dynamic (like, a new objective appers during battle). Number or type of enemy tanks wouldn’t be shown like in reality (or maybe only some rough info).

    7. Battles with checkpoints that need to be controlled. It’s a known mode in multiplayer games, where control over certain areas grant points, first team to accumulate given amount wins battle.

  131. 1) Troll platoons. Nothing irritates people more than a platoon with a tank 4 tiers too low to handle the battle tier. I can understand being one tier too low, but more than that should never be allowed. A reduction in maps, especially maps that are essentially the same (winter/summer versions of the same map, etc), would also be nice.
    2) Mostly getting XP in the most efficient way possible. I’ll play a tank till I get that x2 XP for the first win, then move onto the next one, especially non-elite tanks. It’s also the primary way I play, so it’s the primary place I get enjoyment from the game.
    3) Not terribly interested in this mode. I think it would be better at lower tiers where your tank can die quickly. At tier 10, the game would take a very long time.
    4) Again, probably better at lower tiers, this time because detection rings are lower. At higher tiers, you’d have too many targets all the time. They also don’t tend to have ridiculous cammo values. You don’t want death bushes all over the map. Probably wouldn’t be interested anyway.
    5) Not that interested.
    6) I like the current system. Can’t really think of a better way to get games up quickly with somewhat-balanced teams. Skill is impossible to quantify appropriately, you cannot get rid of solo players without hurting the game, and larger platoons could be detrimental. I’d certainly be ok with expanding platoons by up to 2 additional players to try it out, though.
    7) Assault mode needs serious help. Maps and base placement play a very large role in which side will prevail. Most are inherently unfair. I’m not sure the mode can work on maps that aren’t specifically built for it.

    The new corridor-y approach to some maps make them really frustrating for some tank classes. Also, the maps are too ‘bumpy’ – the alleged fix for that can’t come fast enough.

    Grinding XP and getting good stats while doing it. Also winning :).

    It could be quite fun, but there could be trouble with balancing the spawnsites of tanks. If the possible spawn places would be fixed, people would just camp around them. Creating dynamic spawnsites could give not-very-fair advantages in some cases. Also, I can’t imagine a team that would get beaten with 15-5 score willing to stick around to die few more times.
    However, I don’ t believe there would be drastically more AFKers/Suiciders/Leavers than there are now.

    4) What do you think of a FFA (free for all, deathmatch – not duel) mode? On tier 8,9,10
    First thought that comes to mind – fun. Second – impossible to balance, not with the current maps anyway. Some spawn locations would unavoidably be better than others. Also mobile tanks/tanks with great camo and spotting range would have quite large advantages against the average player, since everyone would have to rely on their own spotting abilities. Light tanks would be useless (which is not a good thing), arties would be useless as well (which is a very good thing), also most players would just probably find the nearest bush and camp in it.
    Maybe it could work, but in very specific maps and maybe with only one tank class being in the match.

    5) What do you think of a team PvP Battleground mode with checkpoints (MOBA without AI)
    Wouldn’t work, a lot of people are having trouble understanding the difference between standard and encounter/assault, not to mention anything more complex. Also it would require quite a bit communication and coordination between players, which is rather non-existant it randoms. Maybe if it was made for teams like team-battles, but definitely not for random battles.

    6) What mode (solo or platoon, not requiring teams) is according to you the most suitable for tanks? Offer your own
    Either full-solo or full-team battles. Having a platoon with skilled players in the battle that communicate between them and are coordinated makes the match very unfair.

    7) If you want to, make a proposition for your own mode for random battles (like assault, encounter etc.)
    In an ideal world I would love to have a mode on larger maps with several dynamic (could vary from match to match to a certain degree) primary and secondary objectives (i.e. capture and hold that area, destroy this object, hold a checkpoint for x minutes etc.). Like conquest in Battlefield series, but better ;).

  133. 1) I have seen a lot of unbalanced matches lately (for example 7 tier 9’s vs 3 tier 9’s). Also, I would like maps to be more traversable for scouts and to have more locations for arty to set up in.

    2) Primarily I play random battles purely for fun, but I’d be lying if I said grinding xp and credits isn’t a big factor.

    3) Garage battles sound interesting, and I think they would add a fresh experience to the game. My main concern is that “respawning” could trivialize the intensity of the game which currently institutes “permadeath” to great effect. That said, I would love to see Garage battles implanted on a temporary basis so I could gauge if they are something I would like to play or not.

    4) A free-for-all mode would be incredible! However, I would like to see it implemented on mid and lower tiers as well as 8, 9, and 10.

    5) I think PVP battleground sound great! However, I think that AI controlled units should be considered for this mode.

    6) Of existing modes I think the standard random battles are the best. Of potential modes I think the player vs. AI battles sound the most interesting.

    7) Mode Proposal: Attrition: Where one large, strong team defends a point, and successive waves of players try and take it. The defenders would consist of a team of 20 heavy’s, TD’s, and SPGs (no mediums or light tanks). The attackers would consist of three waves of 15 consisting of Medium, and heavy tanks, as well as SPGs (no TD’s or light tanks). Each wave of attackers would be unique players (no respawning)

  134. 1) Some maps offer low possibilities for certain tanks, or better said tank types. For example getting to your location on Ensk with G.W.Tiger ? Sure, but you die before you can even cross the railroad. That map is horribly small and as such even getting into position is an issue. So i would love the option to disable let´s say two maps i dont wanna play at all. For me it would be Ensk and Charkov every time i play with arty. It would only work when playing solo random battles. Next thing would be to reduce the number of maximum artillery in one game. And i am saying this from the view of an arty player. You need more tanks on the frontlines even in arty to keep the enemy in place. I would say 3 is the right number as it allows you to have full arty platoon, but thats it. Any more ruins the game for both sides. Also light tanks tend to have trouble in T10 battles with scouting and in general view range of certain tanks is so high, that spotters arent that much important. Ehm- Rhm.Bwt. Being invisible and spotting for himself at the same time….

    2) My goals are to get exp for my tanks and to try and increase my WN8. If there is any really interesting mission, then it becomes my goal above anything else.

    3) Dont really have an opinion yet- i will see how it goes when it is released. But surely leavers should be punished hard for leaving. Tho count with crashes and next thing is- many younger players cant influence the chance of them being unable to play, because their parents wont let them. So also take this into consideration.

    4) I would honestly have no interest in FFA.

    5) Checkpoints could be interesting thing to implement. I would like gamemode like this.

    6) I would say normal battles and encounters are the most balanced right now. Assaults are kinda strange, because the pressure on attackers is way too high. They have to form right- if that fails, they loose. They have to pressure and get into enemy territory, which is heavily defended and have the disadvantage if they have to attack with tds. And if they are still doing fine and playing strategically, the time runs out and the loose. On the other hand the enemy needs to find good position which suits him and just wait for attacking tanks to come. That is kinda harsh on the attacking team i would say.

    7) I would deffinitely like garage battles to be made on very big maps as it would give you more chances for strategical advancement. And also it would be nice to have Team battles expanded for lower tiers. Not necessarily meaning T6 as it is playable in companies. Rather something for tiers 9,7,5 which are kinda just being left behind would be in place. These tiers have some really nice tanks which i would like to see being used more often for purposes of fighting in team. +If you are looking for some fun mode- trying to hit ELC never fails…

    Nothing much, though implementing last position known (even without tank names but just dots/tank type icons) would be beneficial to those new (or without mods). Also (as I will mention below) the current encounter and assault modes are often filled with players who don’t understand (dont look at) the game mode. A warning or message in the battle loading screen and/or an opt-in for the encounter/assault for all players instead of an opt-out in my opinion is better.

    2) What are your goals in random battles? (grinding, high stats, farming missions…)
    Grinding tanks I like, tanks that may be useful in CW and at the same time be fun to drive in pubs, doing missions if I want the objective.

    standard random battles, especially in platoons are my first choice at the moment. I have turned off assault and encounter a long time ago and i simply REFUSE to join a platoon in which the leader hasn’t turned it off. encounter seems okay nowadays, but assault is too stressful. I often find those who do not understand the concept of it keep it on and those who do turn it off.

    assault, but with numerically unbalanced teams. defenders:attackers would be 1:1.5~3, no arty (at least for attackers, makes defending too difficult) and worked so that the defenders should not (cannot) move too far from the base. I’m imagining the old malinovka assault with the defenders on the hill, but with more tanks on the attacking side and the base moved further close to the top of the hill. tank types might be taken into consideration, such as more TDs for defenders, etc

  136. 1) Current random battles:
    Just remove bots and afk’ers and for me it’s ok. Total noobs (especially higher tiers) are also “problematic” but I understand that the solution is even more so…therefore it’s ok to have them.
    2) My main goals in random pubs:
    Depends on which stage of the tank development I am in:
    - If tank is not elite yet my goal is grinding XP
    - If I lack credits I play premium tanks for farming
    - If tank is Elite I play for fun + score (and stats)
    Usually though I am the type of player that sells the tank as soon as I have elited it and will continue doing this until I unlock most tanks. Then I will play “for stats” with all the tanks I will have, but for now I therefore play 95% of the time for XP.
    3) Garage battles:
    I love the idea because it’s more “realistic”. Also like the idea of a longer battle. However I realize the problems that could be linked to it such as quitters. But I have a solution that would definitely be interested I suggest you read it:
    In these garage battles the matches will be longer and cases where the battle is lost in a short time will be more problematic than in normal public matches. Therefore a solution I suggest is that after a certain time (example 5 mins) there should be a possibility of the players in both teams to flee the battles from different points on the battlefield. Only rule is that they should be able to reach that area on the border of the map. Therefore it adds another level of tactics for attacking team: cover escape routes to kill fleeing noobs. This would prevent “obvious loss in 5 minutes” to drag on 45 minutes and, although that would result in scumbag spg’s and campers to flee, you could implement a small penalty (smaller than the effect of having you tank destroyed) to people who flee and a small bonus (according to number of “lives” left in enemy team) for winning team. I think this idea is really great and you should look into it.
    Other than that I would love to have tank bodies STAY in the battlefield, even if you implement that in a later patch idea later. That would add a lot of fun in my opinion in late game.
    4) FFA:
    Would be problematic as many tanks are not meant for 1v1 brawl. Heavies and meds would be favored. Would still be interesting though and I would support it although not sure if I would play it. Would be a great format for tournaments though. That I could play.
    5) MOBA mode:
    Such a mode could work, although it would HAVE to be re-imagined for the tank and WWII context, such as for example 3 stage map where you have to pass different defensive AI gun lines. Could be integrated into PvE or Garage battle modes. Needs further design and development in order to better assess.
    6) Most suitable mode for tanks:
    Encounter, Standard, Garage, PvE (got to test these last two though). You definitely also need to look into implementing a “world war” mode (such as in the map mode in “Heroes and Generals” game, each nation pushing borders etc). Generally we could use bigger maps, more tanks in each team and integration of planes and warships.
    7) Mode proposition for random:
    Team King of the Hill. Territorial Control and Payload modes (from Team Fortress 2), adapted to WWII tank environments. “Stage” battles (meaning that you start on a point and according to who pushes further the map “shifts” to the next location with enemy losing team spawning back from new location and defending from there (or retreating there if not yet killed).

    • 1) I would add for what has to change in my opinion in the game:
      - 6th sense is definitely a skill that is unrealistic and breaks the game. For people who understood the game well it was the first skill taken and by the time everyone understood how OP it was now everyone has it and it’s just an unrealistic thing that everyone has in the game in my opinion. This is something that HAS to go.
      - while we’re at it: PLEASE implement server roaming!! I have moved to China for work reasons and you DON’T want to know what playing on average with 450 ms ping on EU server is!!! xD

    I think the main issue with random battle has always and will always be balance. Having said that I think a few key concepts need to be addressed. It is all well and good to say “oh just flank the camping TD or hvy. But the gameplay and the game mechanics don’t offer any sort of assistance to the more proactive player. There is nothing worse than getting into a game and having a 10-15% chance of doing well. A prime example seems to be the teir 8 heavy tanks getting put into t10 games as bottom tier heavies. There is nothing worse than being a slow large target, with almost zero ability to take damage or do damage. This inevitability leads to camping sniper like gameplay. This inherently seems to lead to players developing bad gameplay tactics. I think anyone who has ever played with a hesitant heavy can tell you that is awfully frustrating watching them getting bombed to death.
    My opinion is maybe certain tanks that cannot compete at their current maximum tiering need to limited (pref matchmaking). It would make the game less rage worthy. I mean there is nothing worse than being constantly put on Prok in a teir10 match with 4+ arty in a kv5… Everyone plays games because they are enjoyable, no one likes having to deal with that sort of matchmaking. And I do understand yea its ok to have a few of those more challenging matches, but when you’re getting that sort of random battle every second or third game consistently the player base generally stops playing.
    I don’t mind waiting in queue for an extra couple of minutes to ensure that I get a balanced game. A few minutes is better than 15minutes worth of camping at the back of the map because you can’t move/ shot/ spot or tank because you are woefully outgunned.

    The only reason I play random battles is to grind out tanks. It seems to be the most efficient way to do it. There really isn’t any other effective way of doing it. Unless you’re in a large clan environment getting a team together for anything else is horrible. Therefore the goal is always to grind. Once I’ve grinded what I need then I just play the more balanced tanks which work at every tier. That way it is so much more enjoyable.

    3) What do you think about garage battles in random and garage battles in general? (on tier 10 for example) – if you like it, why? Aren’t you afraid of leavers?
    Honestly it’s a great idea but it could massively fail as well. Can you imagine how bad it would be when someone who is not very good gets stuck as top tier and is meant to carry but totally unable to… the snowball effect would be horrific. Between the leavers the campers and the trolls, I can only see this having a bad reputation.
    I would much rather a repair depot or remove from map type of repair feature. This would actually limit the amount of unbalanced acts that could creep into a game. For example lets say it’s a tier4/5/6 game. Make it so the light/medium tanks can go back and repair twice/ hvy’s/TDs once. If you’re a top tier then you get limited to a 50% repair. This would give you the same effect without the massive imbalance of say a top tier just driving out getting smashed and repeating this gameplay. It would force players to preserve their tanks withdraw from the front line repair and reposition. You would still have to be good enough to withdraw from the front, and therefore get rewarded for keeping the tank alive. Obviously not a full proof idea but it could be tweaked accordingly. I feel this would be a better option, also a more unique option.

    4) What do you think of a FFA (free for all, deathmatch – not duel) mode? On tier 8,9,10
    I would work on what you’ve got now. A game mode like this doesn’t fit in with the game style. It would also require a huge amount of balancing features. I don’t think you’ll get many high tier player interests in this game mode. Might work for a T1-4 lineup as it would give them an alternative.

    5) What do you think of a team PvP Battleground mode with checkpoints (MOBA without AI)
    Again, I think this is although being a great idea wouldn’t really work in reality. You would see an endless amount of trolling occurring. It may not ever be intentional. The biggest problem with MOBA style games is that the skill gap between players causes huge amounts of trouble. Essentially the learning curves would be too high for the player base and the more experienced and knowledgeable players would utterly dominate the newbies.

    6) What mode (solo or platoon, not requiring teams) is according to you the most suitable for tanks? Offer your own
    Platooning is generally the best way to go about progressing in the game. However more recently the platooning MM has been difficult to overcome. The game expects the bottom tiered platoons to essentially act as top tiers and in most cases it is utterly impossible to carry. Therefore playing solo sometimes works better.
    7) If you want to, make a proposition for your own mode for random battles (like assault, encounter etc.)
    I’ve outlined my idea above. I think that the “repair depo” or withdraw to repair feature would be a better alternative. You could even make it so that sides only going for the cap out, teams could have the option of splitting targets. Either go for a cap out or disable the enemies’ ability to reinforce itself. I think this would be a better alternative than just rolling tanks onto the field once you lost it. Thus letting players reset and do the same mistakes. Keeping your tank alive and getting back to a repair point would all bring a more dynamic level of game play. This would also aid in reducing the pain of being hit for super large amounts of damage.
    Another idea would be to not have a new game mode but events (aka like pre load bombardment) in game that would break the stalemate. Say for example 5 minutes in a smoke barrage comes from off map and “smokes” an open area allowing faster tanks to move and advance. Then say with 5 minutes to go aerial surveillance craft lights up tanks not hidden in a bush (open tanks). Little mini events that would help move things along. It would allow people a chance to move or plan and assault.

  139. 1) My gripe regarding MM is that it lacks consistency in balance. Especially by vehicle class. I.e. sometimes one team gets 5 top tier heavy tanks while other gets only top tier mediums. One team gets 9 TDs, while other – only 1 (not hard to imagine how this ends on maps favorable for camping tactics). Also, battles with one team having 2 to 4 more top tier vehicles than the other are not at all rare (although WG once claimed that difference can only be 1).

  140. 1) What do you think is wrong in current random battles? (Evilly: no skill MM) Anything missing?
    Reporting for defetism. My WOT experience has been shadowed by people constantly whining about MM and map they hate. Although I’m sort of optimistic about life, I really really am not immune to the shit pouring from the game chat. Turning it off entirely is not an option for me though, as I have friends in major clans who say hello to me. If I don’t respond, those friendships may be lost.
    This can be done in a sort of humorous way – not to insult those who whine a lot. But when user gets many reports for this, he/ she gets a commisar warning. Defetism was punished in reality, so why not at least warn in the game? After more reports chat could be banned for a short period.

    2) What are your goals in random battles? (grinding, high stats, farming missions…)
    Training good crews for all of my 56 tanks, but also grinding more tier 10s for CW.

    3) What do you think about garage battles in random and garage battles in general? (on tier 10 for example) – if you like it, why? Aren’t you afraid of leavers?
    Garage battles – only in historical battle mode, for the little ones. But no strong opinion on that, need more data.

    4) What do you think of a FFA (free for all, deathmatch – not duel) mode? On tier 8,9,10
    No opinion, don’t know that.

    5) What do you think of a team PvP Battleground mode with checkpoints (MOBA without AI)
    same as above

    6) What mode (solo or platoon, not requiring teams) is according to you the most suitable for tanks? Offer your own
    It depends on your day and on other people’s day. Sometimes solo, sometimes platoons.

    7) If you want to, make a proposition for your own mode for random battles (like assault, encounter etc.)
    Option 1: 15 minutes assault.
    Option 2: 10 minutes encounter, but with slightly different rules regarding cap – Instead of capping, your team needs to be ‘in posession’ of cap zone in the end of those 10 mins.

    • Oh, I forgot one thing: in randoms general camo level of bushes should be reworked (decreased), but camo level after shoot should be increased. It feels right. (after 25k battles).

  141. 1) Cancers…. cancers……. tumor launchers…. they need a rebalance, now they hit most of their shoots, you can have 75% hit ratio playing a tumor launcher…
    2) Grinding, farm missions, faster xp as possible.
    3) Garage battles can be good or can be bad, it depend of how many ppl will play it. I prefer battles as they are now.
    I don’t like tier 10 bcs they don’t play against bigger tier tanks, and many tier 9 tanks sucks making tier 10 even better. #ReturnTier12Battles
    Garage battles with tens only can fix it too.
