Gaijin (War Thunder) restores StuH 42…

So, War Thunder guys restored a StuH 42 to working condition. Good job, the vehicle looks nice :) Interesting thing is though that this vehicle belongs to Kubinka museum. I kinda thought that’s like… Wargaming territory?

Anyway, good job, guys. We need more restored tanks, no matter who does it.

- in 9.1, LT’s starting from tier 4 will have their MM spread limited
- the reason why balance issues in random battles are not solved by increasing the MM weight if that respective tank is that increasing the MM weight doesn’t make players play that vehicle any less. This can be partially observed in the HB mode.
- Q: “Was it considered to implement a mode, where there would be no bases and the battle would be won only by killing everyone?” A: “T95 GMC on one team and T71 on the other are not amused”
- damage model changes in WoT? Storm: “And who needs that?”
- apparently, Edrard’s wot-news cehicle statistics are wrong (Storm: “This is not statistics, but god knows what”)
- for now it is not known how (if) gold ammo will be rebalanced, developer opinions differ
- the 25 percent RNG is “optimal for WG playerbase” and won’t be changed
- there will not be a common server for EU and RU players (“wait for roaming”)

Wargaming wins at European Games Award

Source: http://worldoftanks.ru/ru/news/1/ega2014_win/

Hello everyone,

apparently, Wargaming won two more awards at this year’s European Games Awards.

- Viktor Kislyi became the “man of the year” (Personality award)
- World of Tanks for Xbox became the “best European console game of the year”

The ceremony can be watched here.

An Interesting Video on F2P Monetization

I like the Extra Credit series. They get some things wrong I think, but nevertheless, this is worth watching.

And what do you think, does Wargaming do it right?

Personally, at first, I thought WG does it ONLY right, but I realized that in some cases, WG might be… “slipping”. Not into P2W mind you (yes, I know many people complain about gold shells, but in reality, these aren’t used that much, a lot of the “OMG U GOLD NOOB” comes from noobs, who don’t realize that especially on high tiers, many tanks use APCR as standard ammo and whine about that).

What I mean is that some stock-to-elite grinds are just terrible. Lately, I’ve encountered this in stock Centurion and Centurion 7, those are pretty terrible as stock. There are however even worse cases. This strongly pushes the player into paying for free-XPing to elite status and certainly gives not much joy.

Size Matters and How can it affect YOU

Hello everyone,

first, I apologize for the length of this post, but I humbly suggest it for your attention, because it concerns YOU personally as well. Today, we are going to talk about sizes. No, not THOSE kinds of sizes, but file size, client sizes. Have you ever thought about what the updating of World of Tanks does to internet?

Currently (patch 8.11), WoT client size is cca 13,5 Gb – you can check yourselves. If it’s significantly more, delete the content of the “Updates” folder (yes, you can do that safely). Some mods increase the size of the client significantly as well (model rework, the “Winter Mod” and such), but that is not really a concern here.

13,5 gigs – that’s quite manageable, right? Well… for now. There are rough estimates as to how big the client will be, when everything (maps, tanks) is reworked into HD. Last time I’ve seen, this estimate is around 80 gigs I think. Think about it: 80 gigabytes of World of Tanks client. Obviously, that’s not a problem for existing players (they will be “fed” via patches in parts and won’t have to download this all at once, unless they do something stupid and compromise the client integrity by using some shitty bad-written mods). It’s the new players, for whom this is an issue.

9.4.2014

- various “which tank is the most popular” polls have no influence on tank balancing
- Q: “Will the rework of tanks to HD models be made based on historical battles or popularity amongst players” A: “One does not interfere with the other”
- apparently, more things (such as destroyed tank models) are not scheduled to be pre-loaded into memory during map loading, because it would pointlessly clog the computer’s memory, while the “microfreezes” (when a tank gets destroyed, the game lags a bit loading the destroyed model) are bearable
- ingame accuracy of a gun does not influence the chance of the shell to fly towards the aim circle center
- accuracy ONLY influences the size of the aim circle, that means that for example a gun with 0.36 acc and another at 0.46 acc, if the aim circle of both guns is of the same size (SS: when for example the first gun moves with the turret), the chances to hit for both guns are the same
- 25 percent penetration RNG will NOT be replaced by lower number, because a) it reflects real life randomness better than say 5 percent and b) in such a case, well-armored tanks would be too difficult to deal with
- Storm mentioned that some least popular maps could be removed altogether from the game, Windstorm will not be amongst them
- league system for random battles will not be introduced
- gold ammo for credits will not be removed
- developers are slowly starting to deal with tier 2-5 balance (SS: goodbye, sweet T18)
- retraining crews to different roles (SS: as in, radiomen to drivers for example) will come, “it’s done when it’s done”
- apparently, Storm thinks that after the introduction of the new modes, noone will play companies anymore
- 2014 will bring 3 new tier 8 medium premiums (SS: we’ll see :) )
- An option to re-buy once bought premium tanks for credits? Storm: “We’ll have to think about that”
- the plans for new game modes, unveiled in today’s video, apply for this year
- it’s not planned to implement the option to select, which HD content you want and which you don’t
- the feature to get your unique/reward/premium tanks back is tested on US server, it will be available on RU, EU and ASIA as well

Storm: “Arty will have to be nerfed again soon.” Link
