Not much today.

- Storm confirms that the new 9.3 light tanks will come straight away as HD (some Russian player was claiming the tanks are in SD in videos)
- according to SerB, WT E-100 is not the worst thing invented by Germans, they had even weirder tanks (SS: of course it isn’t, since Germans didn’t invent it, WG did)

But if all goes well, you can look forward to some very interesting insider info tomorrow – after all, who wouldn’t want to see SerB raging? ;)

SerB On WG Stream Q&A

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/3459784.html

Hello everyone,

SerB was recently a guest in a Wargaming stream. Here’s what he said.

- his first “breakthrough” game was Civilization, SerB considers that game a breakthrough
- the fate of FV4202 will be officially disclosed by the end of November/in early December
- infantry was not implemented in World of Tanks, because it would affect the game rating, which would in turn heavily affect the game promotion and its popularity
- earlier, it was planned to implement special command tanks – this plan was cancelled, but there will be some special commander feature in the future
- SerB is really glad that WG bought the Total Annihilation franchise (SS: well, I guess we know now what that US guy is working on)
- captured tanks were postponed, because earlier, it was intended to use them in historical battles, but since the HB failed, they were put to side as well
- Action X Centurion will have HESH shells as well
- Italians can build only a partial branch, but WG wants a full branch
- WG has not forgotten the EU tree

- Storm confirms that the entire set of vehicle models in the game will be reworked to HD (there won’t be a special non-HD client)
- the HD tanks are not textured as dirty from mud, because it would look weird on winter maps
- no plans for changes of the gold ammo for credits mechanism
- camo looking weird on HD models? “Everything is the way it was before”
- IS-7 will not be reworked to HD in 9.3

- it was confirmed in 9.3 supertest patchnotes that suicides will be punished in World of Tanks. A player asked, how will the game know if I for example drive off the bridge by accident. Storm answered that you’d have to “drive off by accident” three times in a row, so that’s apparently the limit of suicide punishment.
- you won’t get bonus XP for blocking shells with your tracks (SS: for example sidescraping). Storm: “Blocking shells by tracks – that’s bullshit and not tanking”
- Storm confirms that shooting hatches will NOT produce less damage than shooting other parts, because it would be counterintuitive for players
- +/-1 MM will not be implemented (Storm: “It would be boring shit”)
- Storm considers current tier 1,2,11 battles (those that have 1 MM spread) boring
- the biggest problem for creating HD models for now is that outsourced modellers suck (lag behind)
- Storm states that having full HD resolution for all tanks (and not just yours in battle as it was changed in 9.2) is pointless, as you can only tell the difference from like half a meter
- the full HD texture resolution for other tank than yours will not return, not even as an option

- Cannoneer explains the current situation with British and Japanese light tanks: “For the Japanese, there is nothing above the current Ke-Ho light tank. For the British, it’s better.”
- Cannoneer, regarding hightier British light tanks: “There is a general problem with data – for example there is very little data or no pictures whatsoever. There were ideas, but it’s not me deciding what gets implemented and when.”
- regarding Tetrarch CS with 3 inch howitzer: “It’s already in the game but it has one huge flaw – the muzzle velocity is 182 m/s, which means you can even dodge the shell. It would be much more playable on tier 3 than on tier 4, yes.”
- regarding the Contentious with 17pdr gun as a high tier British LT (as was presented on FTR): “Yes, that’s an option, but it has two problems: little data and frontal armor (upper frontal plate, there is a fuel tank behind it and then there is another internal plate of armor).” (both plates are 40mm thick)
- Q: “Storm, and wasn’t there an idea to implement bonus for light tanks for the total amount of targets scouted within the battle (not just for the first detection) and/or for the total amount of time the tank keeps scouting (even without damage done by allies)? ….. It could become a speciality of light tanks… ” A (Storm): “Interesting”

- new LT’s in 9.3 will definitely not be delayed
- retraining of crew roles (SS: as in, radioman to driver for example) will be implemented
- current stage of the Stronghold mode is only the beginning, there will be many new things
- spotting range minimap circle, render range minimap designator and spots where the enemy was seen last time on minimap will not be implemented
- 9.3 will bring new comfortable garage interface
- T57 Heavy will be nerfed a bit
- apparently, if a bot plays better than a player would, Storm does not see the issue in having such a bot in battle
- the reason why HD JT will not come with HD JT88 is that there is a lot of work to do on the HD model even when “just a gun” is changed, such as testing and modelling
- hatches will not be changed to spaced armor (as some player proposes)
- on RU server, the whine about “too many corridor maps” started after a certain popular videomaker (Murazor) started whining about it (SS: I wonder if this happened the same way on EU…)

Storm is writing from his vacation, so there is some new info today :)

- 90 percent of all feedback on El-Halluf rework was apparently positive
- Storm confirms Malinovka will be reworked
- 9.3 test will come soon
- supertest of 9.3 will start on 28.8. (this Thursday)
- Havok: “when it’s done”, it’s apparently almost ready, but there is a lot of content to rework to make it work properly under Havok (its ETA is close to medium future)
- it is not sure whether the premium Panther will have limited MM, as the vehicle was not yet created, it should however come around New Year, unless the outsourced modellers screw it up
- FV4202 premium tier 8 for free? “We will decide closer to New Year”
- new LT’s in 9.3 will come in HD quality
- there will be further development of the Stronghold mode
- SerB like the Panther a lot when he played it
- there will be tank descriptions on minimap in the future
- Storm does not apparently consider “corridors” on maps a problem (“It’s not a problem. It’s variety. And an advantage for certain classes of vehicles.”)
- Storm on map corridors: “Earlier it was not considered a problem. There were maps with corridors and there were maps without corridors. Together, it made for normal variety. Why did lately everyone start to take interest in it? Because El Halluf and Severogorsk got reworked?”

Hello everyone,

as you can see, we have a new design. Slightly. I am as surprised as you are, because it’s apparently a byproduct of WordPress updates, which in turn were necessary due to some security weaknesses. Oh well.

- there are (vague, distant) plans to encourage and reward players for “tanking” (SS: soaking damage)
- the changes, that happened in 9.2 to FV215b (183) – specifically a nerf due to the overuse of gold shells – do not automatically imply that the gold shell system is not balanced and needs a fix
- your chance to be on the top of the team depends on the percentage (composition) of the tank tiers, present in the queue at that actual moment (SS: this is the reason why you can’t see tiers on the queue screen anymore, there was a mod that abused this, allowing you to have a significantly higher chance to end up as a top tank of the team)
- a new game mode (SS: mode as in HB, team battles, etc.) for solo players (not requiring a team) playing high tiers will come soon (SS: likely a “garage battle” mode)

Also, two interesting stories appeared on the Russian forums. I have no idea whether they are true or not, but they certainly are entertaining. One is that the gold ammo for credits came actually to be as a solution from the head of Zlobny (former chief balancer) for the issue, where noobs in light and medium tanks were not able to penetrate heavies from front, complained about it and then the statistics of the meds and lights were distorted. It backfired, but by the time the side effects became noticeable, it was already too late to disable the entire system.

Second story was that Komarin came to be as a map, when Slava Makarov, one of the original WoT creators, drove a car and made a smoking stop near the village of Komarino, not realizing he parked on a swampy ground. The car got stuck and his phone was stuck inside the car as well. The map is based apparently on the landscape of the village, where he was waiting for WG staff to come pick him up.

No idea whether they are true, but… I wouldn’t be surprised.

Nothing new today (well, apart from the earlier “inside info” and leaks), but you can read Listy’s article about the battle of Mons (100 years ago).

If you are wondering, why do I keep putting up these “empty” posts, the answer is simple – continuity. I check every day, just sometimes there is nothing to translate (the truth is, the QA thread that was the bread and butter of FTR from the beginning is dead, so info takes much more effort to dig out) – and when there is nothing to translate and I skip, I always get a couple of e-mails asking why there was no info to translate.

This way, anyone checking for info can clearly see there is nothing going on. Also, if I count correctly, the 9.3 test should come on 4.9., so we have some time.

- according to WG, the popular myth that a bot plays better than bad players is a myth. Bots do not have better stats than even bottom 20 percent of players.
- if 20 percent worst players were banned, Wargaming would not lose any income, because those people don’t spend any money. Furthermore (these are the words of an ex-developer, who recently left WG):

“The ban of accounts of under 48 percent winrate would have almost no effect on making money off the game, if we consider how much do these people donate and compare it with how many people, that really pay, leave the game because of them (or already left), how many people start twinks with bots because of them etc.

Although it’s not the noobs’ fault – it is the fault of game designers, people responsible for balance (both in combat and balance of ingame economics, XP gains) and level designers – they created such a set of problems that if the noobs were the only problem in the game, they would be tolerated. And so, when we consider the large amount of issues which are not trying to fix and which they do not even admit – we get what we have.”

Oh yea, and after some digging – that “super secret Fury movie” tank for the Fury competition? Apparently, it’s going to be either a special camo for the Sherman (so it resembles the main tank of the movie) or a premium “Fury” version of the Sherman. One of those two. That also explains why it was not tested on supertest – there was no point, the tank is in the game already.

Much secret, many original, wow!
