Storm is asking about physics

Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/270824.html

Hello everyone,

once again, Storm is asking the players about their opinion, this time about physics. From the discussion:

- Storm states that the tank “rocking” when going over rails is realistic – as a proof, he shows this video, where even the Turkish Altay MBT is rocking when going over obstacles
- apparently, the amount of rocking when crossing rails will not be reduced, it’s realistic (Storm adds that the tanks in game don’t have hydrodynamic stabilized suspension)
- Storm states that the way the suspension is modelled, it has five elastic points (that interact with the ground), that prevent it from behaving like a “ski” (SS: this is probably the reason why independent suspension will not change tank movement – the points, simulating the wheel movement, are already there)
- Storm states that with the introduction of ingame physics, special tests were held on maps and they have not shown any significant changes in tank mobility (2-3 percent change)
- apparently the current loss of speed when turning the tank is realistic
- the fact you don’t take damage from ramming other objects than tanks is intentional
- apparently, tanks getting stuck on the anti-tank “dragon teeth” strip on Siegfried Line is sort of mixture of a bug and feature (Storm said that, Veider adds it’s simply a feature, after all the strips were designed to block tanks)
- the fact that you cannot create a one-man training room is there to protect the server from being overloaded by too many “training rooms” (SS: creating one training room takes as many server resources as running a full battle)
- the way the braking works in the game (SS: whenever you release the “gas”, the tank immediately stops instead of rolling forward for a while on “neutral”) was specifically and intentionally made to make the gamplay easier
- the situation where you are crossing a dune (SS: this is very noticable in Sand River), you park your vehicle on the top of it and it swings for a while is not a feature, it’s a bug, there was some solution for this by Wargaming, but in the end it did not work

And what is YOUR opinion on WoT physics? Write, you can even link screenshots :)

- after independent suspension introduction, nothing will change for the aiming or gun stabilization, the change will be visual only
- the fact Chi-Ha is a light tank in the Chinese tree and medium in the Japanese tree is caused by the fact that both armies classified it differently historically (the Japanese Chi-Ha doesn’t have the LT camo bonus though)
- Q: “UEFA thinks Israel is in Europe and therefore Israeli tanks should be in EU tree” A: “Unfortunately, we have no agreements with UEFA”
- there is no “shooting and dying at the same time” in World of Tanks. One of these events happens always earlier, this is not a bug and it won’t be changed
- there is no corellation between the introduction of the HD client and new engine sounds (SS: new engine sounds will come actually, but it doesn’t depend on the HD client)
- it’s possible that dirt (mud) will make your tank dirty in battle as you go through it
- it’s possible tracks will “slip” (SS: when the vehicle traction is not enough) in the future
- changes in JT88? “If we change something, we’ll tell”
- fire and ammo rack explosion does influence income in battle: both do damage to modules and damage to modules counts towards your credit gain
- when balancing the income of a vehicle, “net” income (SS: income after deducting shell and repair costs) is taken into account – furthermore, the use of gold shells is taken into account also (SS: that means that the fact you will have little net income if you spam gold shells is not taken into account)
- when asked what is better XP gain-wise, to shoot an enemy for full damage, or to finish off one enemy who has low hitpoints for less damage but killing him, SerB answers that mostly it’s better to finish off that one enemy with low hitpoints, removing one shooting gun from the enemy team – by that you increase your chance of victory more and the average recieved reward from battle rises
- for now, SerB expects the HD content to be separate from the regular client
- apparently, bamboo patch (on Pearl River map) has no real foliage, therefore it provides no camo bonus

- there was never a real “Porsche Jagdtiger”, the only thing that historically existed was the “classic” Jagdtiger with a Porsche suspension (SS: that was not built on Tiger P hull, the hull was the same as that of the regular Jagdtiger)
- IS-3 optional hulls are apparently not sure yet, but most likely there will be two hulls: the regular one (like now) and the earlier prototype one without the pike nose
- gun stabilization (SS: less rocking of the aim reticle during movement) will not increase when the independent suspension is implemented, according to SerB it is sufficient even now
- there is already the basic technical framework for serverside replays in existence, but Storm states there is still a lot left to do
- it’s possible Stalingrad map will appear in WoT
- Havoc: “when it’s done it’s done, I can’t give you any date”
- it’s possible there will be new tier 7 or 8 premium Soviet tanks
- the profitability of premium vehicles that have it better than JT88 (SS: third from above) will remain the same
- there is not yet a definitive answer about how exactly will the TD gameplay change in the future
- the render range will change from (current) square with a 1000 meter side to a circle of 700m radius
- there are no plans to change the aiming reticle
- there are no plans to change anything for top tier German tanks (SS: as in, change the tanks themselves, not their properties) – at least in 2014
- the shell path mechanism will remain the same in HD client as it is now
- dynamic characteristics (SS: as in, you mount equipment and the characteristics of the tank in the garage change) will be added (“it’s done when it’s done”), but for now everyone is working on the new clan functions and historical battles
- for now it is not known when there will be a buff/rebalance of tier 10 British medium tank
- there are plans to rework the conditions needed for “curageous resistance”
- transfer to new Flash (Action Script 3) is planned, Storm is not sure in which patch

Not much today. But you can check out Listy’s post about the Israeli defense of Yad Mordechai kibutz from Egypt in 1948

- in 8.11, the option to disable the battle chat will come, however players with disabled chat will not be marked as such (SS: as in, others won’t be able to see whether your chat is disabled or not)
- apparently, the option to “thank” a player after battle for his good performance will come in some undisclosed future (SS: if I understand it correctly, because SerB used a phrase that makes no sense to me)
- Lowe ammo rack module size has not changed in 8.10 (SS: only the number of shells carried increased)
- Chieftain on US forum states that Wargaming is aware of the T42 Medium Tank (SS: it might theoretically appear in the second US medium branch, but who knows)

WG EU fail? So, uh, the calendar says something about Happy New Year part 1 event this weekend, yet I see nothing on the WG EU homepage. Maybe it’s a new type of solution: instead of releasing buggy event, they better didn’t release it at all :)

- not all tracks act as 30mm thick spaced armor (SS: the 30mm part is wrong, tracks have various thickness)
- Israel tanks will apparently not appear in EU tree (SerB: “Israel is in Asia, or did I learn geography wrong?”)
- Merkava Mk.I will not apparently appear in WoT
- Object 279 will not appear in WoT. Yuri Pasholok states that they actually thought about it at one point, but found out, that ALL the publications have its model (projections) wrong. And to go to Kubinka (or wherever the prototype is) and to measure it by hand is expensive and ineffective use of labor, according to Yuri Pasholok
- apparently, prototype Maus (early Maus concept) had even thicker armor than the Maus itself and had 128mm L/70 planned, according to Yuri Pasholok
- apparently, Yuri Pasholok is cooperating personally with kit companies (specifically Bronco and Miniart and their SU-152 model) to make their models more historical
- Storm on incoming T10 TD nerf: their DPM will generally be kept, but their alpha will be lower. Jagdpanzer E-100 will remain the same, T110E4 will get its alpha reduced, but will recieve a ROF buff

- Storm confirms that RU251 will be the tier 8 German light tank
- it’s possible that the Malinovka “houses” at southern base will be possible to destroy by fire
- there is no different reward for damaging various types of modules (SS: as in, you won’t get more credits by damaging engine than tracks)
- there are no plans to introduce more features for premium accounts for now
- sniper medal will be reworked apparently, there will be new conditions too for the “hero of the battle” condition
- platoon search interface will not be made the way team battle interface is made now – for now
- 1vs1, 3vs3 and 5v5 battles are not planned for 2014

Storm replies on KTTS/ASAP questions

Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/269546.html

Hello everyone,

Storm made another blog post, where he encourages players to ask about the New Year “KTTS” edition (the one with HD graphics introduction). Here’s what was answered in the discussion:

- the turrets will fly (after ammo rack explosion) off even for those with Havoc disabled, as it is calculated server-side
- the issue whether it will be possible to shoot a house and bury someone in the rubble is still being investigated, but this will most likely not come
- behavior of the tank will not change by the introduction of the independent suspension, the independent suspension is only client-side visual, the movement pattern will be the same for all the models, because the server doesn’t have the capacity to calculate every roadwheel movement independently
- in historical battles, the amount of ammo carried will be similiar to the real values (SS: limited amount of gold ammo)

SerB entered new trolling phase: he’s now being a “grammar nazi”, commenting on grammars of those who are asking stupid stuff. Nice form of trolling :)

Check also the Soviet tree for WoT Blitz Overlord posted.

- SerB confirms that you will need entirely new skins for the HD client (SS: the old ones will not work), but WG will continue to allow you to make your own skins
- skill MM for random battles is not being developed (SS: it will not come)
- SerB (when commenting on one player’s whine – a player who wrote something in Russian not correctly, claiming there is a conspiracy against some players): “There is a Wargaming conspiracy against illiterate people”
- SerB states that they already checked into the garage battle issue of players in teams that are losing, intentionally sabotaging their team or just quitting, he mentions “mega punishments” for early leavers as an option

A few rumors from Russia…

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/2914213.html

Hello everyone,

here are a few rumors from Russia, brought by player askold_kr. Some where debunked by Storm however. I will leave the judgement up to you.

- askold claims that the HD client will be kept separate from from the “regular” client. Storm actually adds that this might partially be the case: there will be one client, but the HD textures and HD models pack (since only a part of the playerbase is expected to use it) will be issued as a separate patch and not everyone will have to download it (SS: reasonable, as only a minority of the playerbase probably has a computer to actually run it)

- T95E6 will (as confirmed before) be a special tank for clanwars (clans)
- SU-76i and Ke-Ni Otsu will be regular premium tanks
- tier 10 TD nerf: alpha will be reduced from 850 to 750 and compensated by increased ROF (SS: this has been somewhat confirmed before), askold claims that the TD’s will also get aim time nerf, accuracy when moving nerf and maybe maneuverability nerf, maybe even an aim nerf, none of that was however confirmed
- a lot of maps will be reworked, the following maps will be Prussia, Minsk and Kharkov (SS: this was also confirmed before)

Askold however also claims that Malinovka will be reworked so that there will be some sort of hole (depression) in the middle of the field, Storm reacted ironically and said it’s garbage.

An interesting thing though: T23 will return to the game (sort of confirmed), possibly as an alternative hull.

Welcome to the new year :)

- regarding the New Years Eve, SerB wrote: “By the way, I really don’t recommend skiing downhill with bengal fire in each hand – you can’t see shit beyond the circle of light (5 meters). It’s scary.”
- SerB, regarding the hydraulic suspension in WoT: “That’s a pretty rough and complex rework of game mechanics (that doesn’t concern only clearance), so for now no comment” (SS: earlier, Storm confirmed the variable suspension for E-10 will come)
- apparently SerB will keep answering questions in the RU topic as much as he can
- apparently the STB-1 height in the game is correct
- premium Sexton better than the regular one? The difference between them is “a complex of characteristics”
