Veider and P.Bityukov answer on live stream

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/2839333.html

Hello everyone,

recently, developer Veider and P.Bityukov, a historical consultant. Russian player Maiorboltach prepared a summary of what they said on the recent live stream yesterday. So, you might consider this a summary of a summary :)

- it was the French and English tank designers who influenced the Japanese tank design the most
- the Japanese doctrine was close cooperation of tank units with infantry and cavalry, but the Japanese did not intend for armored units to operate independently. After the clash with USSR it was decided to make the guns more powerful. The Japanese had few tanks, because the plants couldn’t meet the demant due to resource shortages. The sum of all Japanese tank together in the war was less than 10 thousand. There were tank clashes in Burma between the Chinese units (riding American tanks) and Japanese units (who used their own + captured tanks). Japanese tanks also took part in the civil war in China.
- there will be no more huge changes in WoT gameplay (SS: related to the fact that there will simply be no more very specific branches, like the French tanks and such)
- P.Bityukov thinks Japanese tanks will probably not be used in cybersports, as they have low alpha

(at this moment in stream, Veider gets oneshotted by an Object 261 and writes in chat that Object 261 will get nerfed)

Important: Something urgent came up. Feedback to 8.10 (tests, screenshots and such) will be posted later than usual, I will do it in the night when I come back.

Something to read while the test installs. Not much though:

- when the turrets getting ripped off by ammorack explosions are implemented, the turrets won’t get ripped off by regular heavy shells, causing oneshots – SerB: “If we wanted to make it possible to oneshot tanks, we’d have done it a long time ago”
- first version of the 8.10 test will not have the new Japanese green color
- TAA anti-aliasing will come, soon
- Chi-Nu Kai will also be made green
- Cannoneer explains that real life STB-1 had -5/+9 depression/elevation, but in the game, it will be buffed to -10 to compensate for the fact that the vehicle won’t have hydraulic suspension
- there will be either no or very small clipping in the STB-1 model during full gun depression, the picture posted earlier that suggests there is some model clipping just looks that way
- STA-1 (tier 8) will also have -10 depression:

So, just a reminder, the test server is most likely tomorrow

- there are no plans for PvE gameplay in WoT for now
- there are no plans to export the game mechanism (the server part) to the client (making the game playable without internet)
- all the gun penetrations visible in game are rated at 100 meters, penetration does not increase at distances between 0 and 100 meters
- when you log on to once server (EU1 for example), then in the garage relog to (for example) EU2 and the game crashes, the relog will again be to EU1. This will not be fixed.
- developers have not yet decided whether the penetration loss for AP shells when hitting penetrable objects (walls etc.) will be different from the APCR shell penetration loss in the future
- automatic ballistics adjustment (SS: as in, you aim somewhere and the gun adjusts so that the shell reaches the point where you are aiming) is calculated server-side, not client-side
- premium vehicles are selected for implementation based on the fact they are available for such a role (SS: as in, when a vehicle is considered and found suitable for a premium tank role, it is simply implemented, that’s why some branches have multiple premium tanks (German TD’s), while other have none (US TD’s) – if I understand it correctly, it’s pretty much “what comes first”)
- also, Storm gathered feedback on unpopular tanks from this thread (Russian ofc), so we might eventually see some changes there (why would he be asking otherwise, right?)

And info from Overlord:

- official Girls und Panzer mod will definitely not come before the Japanese tanks

An interesting thing. SerB and Storm pretty much stopped answering (busy I guess), there’s a new developer guy in the thread though (nickname Yurko2F) – his answers are less funny, but quite technical and detailed. Will try to capture it properly. Also, this guy seems to answer whining politely. He will learn…

- the “tent” in the base (the boxes and whatnot) will also be penetrable in 8.10 – it will change the base capture dynamics
- the camo-net camo bonus applies even when you shoot a gun: when shooting, you are harder to spot with camo net than without it
- T2 LT entering tier 4 battles? “It deserves it considering its complex characteristics”
- currently (although with low priority) the developers are considering making order in the armor display method in WoT (SS: in their characteristics, some tanks display the armor thickness of its thickest point, such as the KV-220 frontal turret, some tanks display the thickness of the biggest part of armor). This will not change the armor thickness, only displayed data. This has low priority, because what is written on the characteristics sheet of a tank has no influence on its performance

Hello everyone,

check out Listy’s article about Comet vs Tigers clash. Also, Chieftain posted a pretty interesting article on wacky British/US projects :)

Unfortunately, yesterday and today there were no developer answers whatsoever, with one exception:

- there won’t be special (specific) Taiwanese crew (and other insignia etc) for Taiwanese tanks

I am thinking of including a part of daily translations specifically for WoWp QA, as there now is (since November) a dedicated QA thread (just like for WoT). Is it worth it?

- the objects that currently don’t stop any shells (for example telephone poles and such) will not be affected by the soft object penetration mechanism
- right now, it’s not even theoretically considered to allow shells penetrate multiple easy-to-penetrate tanks in a row (with penetration loss) (SS: a player was asking whether it is considered for example for a Object 268 shell to penetrate several MS-1 tanks in a row, destroying them all)
- developers on the alleged “too many TD’s” issue: “The rumors about the TD domination are too much exaggerated. At this moment, there are less TD’s than HT’s (we are talking about top battle tiers) and there is roughly the same amount of TD’s as there is of mediums” and “In fact, the gameplay on TD’s is quite boring and monotonous, when compared to LT’s, MT’s and even HT’s. So players played a bit with the new accuracy and then went back to play on their favourite vehicles.”

- SerB states he does read the Suggestions forum (SS: on RU server), but very, very few things make sense there
- inner parts inertia is not included in the WoT motion model
- M6A2E1 gun penetration is not bugged (SS: a player was complaining that his penetration indicator turns red even though he should be penetrate some part of KV-4)
- the shape of the rendering distance will eventully change from current square to a circle (when it’s done it’s done)
- tier 8 tanks don’t get thrown on the bottom of the team too much
- HEAT shells will simply destroy destructable objects without passing through them to cause damage in 8.10 (only AP and APCR shells will pass thru them)
- Q: “Is there a chance to see SU-152 “Taran” in game?” A: “50/50 – it will either come, or it won’t”

Just so you know, apparently the STB-1 depression will be -10, not (historical) -6

- Storm states that there will not be one “super patch” with HD client. There will be series of patches with improvements and additions, which will eventually lead to the “HD client”. The “HD client” will also feature full multicore support.
- when hitting a breakable object, the penetration of AP and APCR shells will decrease by a fixed number, not by a percentage of its full penetration
- captured German KV-1 (Pz.Kfpw.KV-1 756(r)) will be armed with the 75mm L/43 KwK 40 with the muzzle brake from the L/48 model
- angle of impact on a breakable object doesn’t influence the amount of penetration lost
- while the turret flying off will be implemented, this feature will not influence TD’s and arty.
- Object 430 will apparently have the analogical elevation to T-64 (SS: -6/+14), SerB is satisfied with the result

- both the L7 gun and the engine on Type 61 tier 9 Japanese MT are historical according to SerB
- regular Type 98 Ke-Ni in game will have Hara suspension (SS: Christie suspension “Otsu” version will possibly be a premium tank)
- Japanese heavy branch is being developed
- according to developers, radio mechanism is working fine and its impact on gameplay is sufficient, especially on low and mid tiers
- too early to evaluate the new 8.9 TD statistics

“The analysis of new vehicles doesn’t begin immediately – not by a longshot. Of course, it is constantly monitored and analyzed, but when it comes to new vehicles, unlocked in the beginning by experienced or active players, of course their stats go up and down. And when finally the majority of players gets used to the vehicle, other players develop tactics against this vehicle and when it is played by all who wanted to unlock it and not only those who succeeded, it is then when we start considering the statistics valid and make decisions”

- mods such as XVM or noobmeter have no influence on tank MM (SS: yes, someone really asked that)
- a player asked whether it was possible to make a U-turn with a tank (like drifting) – SerB said sure, to try it with MT-25
- Russian wikipedia mentions a plan to install a 152mm BR-2 gun on SMK chassis under the name of IS 1940, SerB states that this is why he doesn’t like wikipedia, the tank is clearly a fake and the gun is way too big and its recoil too strong for such a chassis
- SerB states he doesn’t know of any more German tanks with 300mm+ armor, that could be introduced in WoT
- the optional hulls will not only reworked visual models, but also different properties, for example the 100mm armor T-54 hull had better lower front plate armor, there apparently will also be the IS-2 hull with “straight” frontal plate
- the calculation of tank mobility and acceleration properties is quite complicated according to SerB, the exact formula won’t be published
- wounded gunner influencing the aim circle incorrectly? “How terrible” (SS: a Russian player presented some sort of idiotic theory how to improve it – nothing important, basically it works just fine)
- turret rotation will make a sound in the future, “it’s done when it’s done”
- bots are not tracked based on the Hall of Fame data
