21.11.2014

Two things. First, the 9.5 testing is slowly starting – hence the IM info. HOWEVER, keep in mind that any info from supertest might as well consist of placeholders. There is no indication that players will be actually FORCED to play arty, it’s possible this is just tested.

Secondly, the following vehicles are being added to the 9.5 CT: 11 British tanks (slowly, all are not ready yet, the Charioteer got leaked), along with ISU-130, AMX CDC, AMX-13/57, STA-2, and FV4202 with HD model. Furthermore, three new maps are being supertested: winter version of Ruinberg (to replace Ruinberg on Fire), something called “Lost City” (not sure what that is) and a map called “Mittengard” (which is the version of the Pit). More info as it gets leaked. It is unlikely all these maps will appear in 9.5.

Oh and apparently, the tutorial window bug is still preset after the 0.9.4.2 micropatch on RU server, but at least it doesn’t appear all the time. An odd thing though – according to the Support site, the patch 0.9.4.2 was supposed to be released today. Did anyone actually download it?

Otherwise there’s nothing new.

Patently Absurd Special: Return to France with Monsieur Boireaux

Authors: Vollketten, Souroy

We are returning to the French part of the series with this article. France has a long and glorious military history and the first part clearly did not do justice to some of the wonderful inventions concocted to win the war and the single armoured train I posted needs further elaboration. A single individual in particular is the common denominator this time, so this is a ‘Special’ for just one man and his multiple designs.

I’ve been posting some amusingly bad and some actually fairly decent tank designs from Patent archives, but sometimes you find something which warrants a segment all by itself. Even the armchair tank historian will have heard of the designer Monsieur Boireaux (sometimes spelled ‘Bouralt’or ‘Boiralt’). He came up with the wonderful ‘Boireaux machine’ back in 1915 as means to cross shell-shattered ground. It worked, but was hard to control and was unarmed. It was actually rather an ingenious, if not the most practical vehicle. After some time and digging, I found the patent for one of his armoured trains with some help from Souroy and here are the results.

Straight Outta Supertest: Individual Missions

Hello everyone,

the testing of individual missions on supertest 9.5 has begun. Individual missions are split into seasons, season 1 has 4 tanks as rewards (StuG IV, T28 Concept, T55A and Object 260, in that order, reflecting the difficulty). Each of those tank has 5 mission chains, each chain consists of 15 missions. When you complete the final mission of the chain, you get a token. Apparently, you have to collect every token in order to get that respective tank.

Only when you get one tank, you will get tokens for the next one (eg. you have to get StuG IV in order to start working on T28 Concept). The missions are not “grindy”, they can be completed in single battle and they involve various requirements, such as damage done in battle, kills, scouting and spotting damage in an arty + platoon (yes, apparently in order to get to the top, you have to play LT or arty) and many others.

Personally, I think this is a very, very good idea.

Girls und Panzer Special on ASIA Server

Source: http://worldoftanks.asia/ja/news/pc-browser/21/announce-gupmod-special/

Thanks to Jinxed_Katajainen for this one!

Hello everyone,

about a month ago, Wargaming released (for Japanese audience only, although technically anyone could get it) another modpack for Girls und Panzer in limited amount (30 thousand downloads). This modpack contained some emblems and skins from GuP (some odd Russian symbol for the “Russian” school if I understand it correctly). Here’s the promotion video.

Unfortunately, the even was not without a screwup, as Jinxed explains:

“- Not only the voice mods but the whole /audio folder, bloating the archive to 1.3GB
- They couldn’t just instruct the users to copy the /audio folder to res_mods
- Some strange XML files that were probably not needed
- Skins copied from Torys’s packs.. no credit given in the readme
- Skins include old versions that need a file name change ‘_AM’ removed to work (Matilda, Ferdinand)
- Skins also include SD versions of now HD models and don’t work (M3 Lee, IS)
- Fuzzy and/or artefacted image files for the crew. Also no explanation that replacing them would make the crews randomly show up and not in their respective crew positions.

On top of this, the downloads were limited to the first 30,000 users starting at 5:00PM JST, most of the users in Japan seem to have gotten download interrupted and the archive was broken once finished.”

Wargaming as usual.

Fury Counter-Review by a Tanker

Hello everyone, this piece of text was written by a real life tanker and posted on other site. You know I did not like the movie, but for the sake of balance, I decided to post it as well as per our mutual agreement. -SS

A review is, of course, purely subjective, and it is shaped as much by expectation as it is by personal preference. I rather liked Fury, and believe that it achieved the goal it set out to. Before the movie was released, there was some major concern in the US tanker community (real tankers, not PC ones) that the film was going to turn out to be another Pearl Harbour or U571. It wasn’t until after people came back and started posting their reviews online that the concerns were allayed. I think our disagreement is because SilentStalker has rather missed the woods for the trees. He’s looking at it primarily as a war movie, involving tanks. Tankers view it as a movie about tankers in a war. Granted, like SilentStalker I could have done with a little less apartment scene, and a little more shooting, but what the hey. At least there’s no politics and little moralising, things I hate in a war movie.
