German Fantasies for the Führer

Source: http://yuripasholok.livejournal.com/2924387.html

Hello everyone,

Yuri Pasholok published today a very interesting piece of document. It’s a captured (and translated) version of a memo for Adolf Hitler from 7.4.1944 (looking at the dating, it was in Soviet hands 10 days later – Soviet recon was quite competent), regarding the development of German armored vehicles.

Flag of Finland on CW map (EU)

Hello everyone,

I don’t usually report on CW stuff, unless there is some massive screwup, but this is rather funny. Members of several prominent Finnish clans in World of Tanks managed to create the flag of Finland on the CW map.

Their proclamation:

There is this land in the far far north. Finland.

Throughout history, its people have been known for notoriously fierce fighters, high standards in cuisine (according to Mr. Berlusconi), high suicide rates, exceptional school system, race car drivers and weird sense of humor. This is a story of the first and the last of that list.

Shell Flying Wide

Working as intended…

Thanks to Wuestenfoxx for the video…

Edit: To explain – this issue happens, when you move your turrets and fire. It’s caused by the fact that server reticle at that moment is much larger than the regular one and shells fire to the edges of the server reticle, not the client one. The problem is not the fact that something like that happens if it is intended (bad a mechanism as it is), but the fact that most players probably don’t even know about the serverside reticle and will get confused.

Next CW Campaign: End of April

Hello everyone,

Player Amayii [WHY] recently took part in the WoT Xbox community meeting in Utrecht, where he met Ectar and was kind enough to provide us with an account of what Ectar said.

According to Ectar:

- next campaign might start in the last week of April (since there is a slot in his calendar reserved for him to play with the WG clan)
- American LT’s: “No comment”
- German tier 8 LT: no new info, but “apparently, two tanks are considered” (SS: very interesting, since there are very, VERY few candidates for that)
- WoWs closed beta might start at the beginning of 2015, in 2014, there might be more alphatester spots opened
- there might be a WoWs supertester group from EU server, but Ectar thinks that the chance of that is low, because Minsk is pissed about the previous supertester leaks

Thank you everyone for your Patreon pledges and Paypal contributions, it is much appreciated. I will make a separate post in the evening, but now, let’s get this show on the road :)

FTR: Voluntary Subscription Introduced

Hello everyone, this post is quite important (well, for me anyway :P), so please, take your time to read it. I promise I will be brief, or at least I will try to be :)

What Is It and Why

Those of you, who follow For the Record for a while probably noticed…. issues we’ve been having last month. The site was crashing, sometimes it was unavailable, there were some glitches and it was generally slow. The common reason for that was basically an overloaded server – I posted that on the FTR Facebook Page.

For the Record grew immensely in last three months. Not so long time ago, I proudly posted about 100k reader peaks per day, but last week, we reached an insane number of over (!) 200k for two days in a row. I really didn’t think there would be any more room for growth above 100k, but I was wrong and I am really glad I was :) Sometimes I just open up Google Analytics and watch the access numbers in real time and I am like “Whoa, 10 people from Manila, I wonder who’s reading FTR there…” – okay, I am getting sidetracked again, sorry.

29.3.2014

Check out today’s Chieftain’s Hatch – the topic is very interesting (not to mention entertaining) :)

- M6A2E1 armor will be brought to its historical parameters, when the vehicle is reworked to HD
- currently, M6A2E1 uses not M6A2 hull, but M6 hull
- WoT damage model doesn’t allow to model linear armor thickness change of armor, it would be too complicated to compute and would require too much computing power, that’s why armor is modelled as consisting of zones of individual thicknesses
- the same goes for modelling real 3D armor plates (currently, armor is modelled as a 2D plane with a virtual number, representing its thickness)
- regarding War Thunder, its ability to heavily modify various stickers on tanks, all the while War Thunder fans go “OMG REALISM”:

(Bigangrycat) “That’s the usual War Thunder fans doublethink. This is by far not the only expression of the famous rule ‘what you call spies, we call recon!’ The system of applying decals on vehicles in War Thunder is very flexible, but on the other hand the result is that many vehicles in the game are painted either with the “LOOK AT ME DUDES IM A DESIGNER” in mind, or trollishly, like the famous ‘horse fucking a pin-up girl’ composition.”

- regarding whining about bad World of Tanks physics, compared to War Thunder

(Bigangrycat) “I suggest checking with those, who play War Thunder: Ground Forces how it goes with ‘tree climbing’ ;) Or try it yourself, if you manage to get a beta key”

9.0 Test: Autoaim Reworked

Hello everyone,

after numerous people wrote me about re-worked autoaim, I decided to investigate – and yes, this is a change that will make tomato, Red army, deer, crayfish and Alexei players very, very happy. Earlier, as is well known, autoaim aimed at the center of the tank, which often meant that when facing the tank forward, it aimed at the upper frontal plate. This has been changed. I am not sure, how exactly is the autoaim point defined now (center of the hull?), but the autoaim mechanism aims significantly lower.

shot_019

On the picture above, I am standing on a small hill above the IS-3, you can however clearly see that with autoaim enabled, I am aiming at its hull. If I was on the same level, I would be aiming at the lower frontal plate. This is perhaps the biggest problem with the new autoaim, it will allow noobs to aim lower at the lower front plate, where usually a weakspot for most tanks is, allowing easier kills.

How World of Warships was hacked…

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/3136620.html

Hello everyone,

if you dabble in reading various internal game files (models and such), you can imagine how useful a full game client can be. You can pull all sorts of things from it, including models, maps and a lot of other interesting stats. In any case, it is pretty undesireable for Wargaming to actually spread the client around.

Today, we’re going to look at how Russians “hacked” the World of Warships (not a hack really, just… well, you’ll see). This was posted by a LJ user the_komp (der_komp in the game).

First, he started thinking: all the Wargaming projects are started via a launcher, so there is no reason for WoWs to be any different. This launcher transmits a special xml file with the client version, checking against the server, whether the client needs an update. All you need to know is the address of the updating server. For WoT, it’s http://update.worldoftanks.ru, for WoWp, it’s http://update.worldofwarplanes.ru/, so for WoWs, it should be http://update.worldofwarships.ru? Not quite.
