Developer Diaries – Physics

Hello everyone,

so, the promised developer diaries are here and my first reaction was: “I really need a new rig” :) No, seriously, it looks beautiful.

Inside:

- destruction physics (worth watching)
- independent suspension and track physics (also looks quite natural)
- Havok will be optional, it will use multiple cores
- new tank movement physics

Apparently, with the new movement physics, the tank mobility parameters will change as well. For now, there is only the terrain resistance parameter, in the future however, there will be many more parameters, defining tank movement (“traction, terrain deformation”) – that will however have one downside: tank mobility parameters will be even harder to estimate from paper values.

- turrets being ripped off by ammorack explosions (parameters considered: internal volume of the tank, amount of remaining ammunition, type of remaining ammunition)
- ripped off turrets will exist as a (server-side) objects with mass (they can destroy things)
- movable objects (players pushing ingame object trucks for example)
- tanks flipping over

Overall, it looks all very, very cool. Looking forward to it.

Tank Graveyard in Ukraine

Source: http://www.express.co.uk/

Hello everyone,

thanks to sevearal people, who sent me this link. Apparently, there is a (classified) “tank graveyard” in Ukraine near Kharkov, that was discovered by Pavel Itkin (18). It’s full of Soviet era tanks (it used to be an old repair/refit plant, closed down after the fall of the Soviet Union) and seeing the situation, maybe they just should have stayed activated…

Cooking with Arnold… on a Tank

You think you are overly manly man? Well, you’ll never be as manly a Arnold Schwarzenegger cooking a huge-ass sandwich on the hood of his personal privately-owned M47 Patton! How did he get a Patton and why by the way? Well, Arnold served in the Austrian army before he moved to the US – as a tanker. This Patton was the tank he served on, he bought it later when it was phased out of service.

Pretty much nothing today again

- according to Tanitha (SEA server), a CW “minicampaign” is coming soon (SS: thanks to Mick42 for this info, although it’s not sure whether this will be limited to SEA server only)
- apparently, the KTTS (ASAP) video will come tomorrow evening
- regarding the T-34 restoration video, apparently the vehicle restored is quite unique, there aren’t many T-34/76′s around

What an Ammo Explosion can do…

Hello everyone,

today, we are going to have a look at what an ammo rack explosion can do in real life.

The sad events, described in this article, actually happened on 9.1.1991, when a Soviet army T-72A, stationed in former Czechoslovakia, was ripped apart by an ammo rack explosion, causing the death of no less than 17 soldiers – one of the worst military accidents in Czechoslovak history.

Interview with Storm from Overheat.ro

Special thanks to Mr.Popescu for providing the link and the translation of the entire article.

Answered by Michael Zhivets, World of Tanks Producer

Hello and welcome to Overheat.ro. Thank you for accepting our invitation to the interview.

Hello and thank you for taking an interest in World of Tanks.

What can you tell us about yourself and the work that you do. Also, I think that our readers would like to find out how your career started. What can you share with us?

I was among the founders of the Minsk-based Arise studio that merged with Wargaming in 2005. It focused on real-time strategies and shipped several well-acclaimed niche projects with WW II setting. Having joined Wargaming, I worked on Operation: Bagration and Order of War until World of Tanks concept came up in 2009. Familiar with the mid-20th century warfare from my previous titles, I lined up into the team as a game designer. As the project grew and gained mass appeal, I became a producer and now overlook the development process, managing the content and features for new updates.

Littlefield Collection Sale

Hello everyone,

this post appeared on one of the smaller Russian communities (thanks to the US guys, who reposted it on US forums). As those of you, who follow this kind of stuff, know, Littlefield tank collection (possibly the largest private collection in the world, more than 100 vehicles) is getting sold in an auction to the highest bidder (each tank separately). It’s actually quite sad, it means noone will ever see the collection together ever again. So, how much money does it take to buy your very own private tank?

- there are no plans to introduce new functions (SS: to buff) premium account
- there are no plans to change the Ruinberg map
- no special development is running regarding the loss of synchronisation between server and client, Storm states these issues are not caused by Wargaming, but by ISP’s
- for now, the exact list of tanks for various historical battles won’t be disclosed
- no exact details for “clan bases” will be disclosed yet
- Storm doesn’t know exactly, when (if) the arty aim circle gets fixed

Restoring a T-34 tank

Source: WG Youtube

Hello everyone,

Wargaming produced a really interesting movie about a crew restoring the T-34 tank. There are hardcoded subtitles in English, so you will understand :) It’s actually really nicely done.

PS: In case you are interested what is written on the T-34 turret at the end of the movie, it’s “smert vragu” – “death to the enemy”.
