Silhouette Mod Banned on RU Server

Hello everyone,

yesterday, another mod was added to the Russian list of banned mods (in order to display it, you have to be registered on RU forums) – permanent silhouette mod.

So, what does it do?

Basically, it’s a script, that permanently enables the enemy tank silhouette, as seen above. It is very useful in for example shooting over various obstacles, walls, bushes and such. It’s reasonable to expect that this mode will be considered banned on other servers as well.

World of Warships Q&A

Source: http://blog.worldofwarships.eu/interview-with-artur-associate-publishing-producer/

Hello everyone,

just a quick summary of the recent with some World of Warship producer, nickname Ev1n. The interesting part is, it was basically an “ask me anything”, why don’t we have that in WoT more often?

- you will be able to lob shells over one target to hit a target behind it
- it will be possible to repair turrets that got blown off by a repair kit to a certain extent
- WoWs now have limited dualcore support, full multicore support is being worked on
- right now WoWs has more than 10 maps built, they need to be tweaked for gameplay
- closed beta should start this year
- changing weather won’t come this year
- the best working map size atm is 50x50km
- the game will have slightly bigger PC requirements than WoT (minimum specs are not clear yet)
- regarding the point of view from which you will see the battle:

“Yes, we removed “arty view” as the primary targeting mode in WoWS. Believe me when I say that it made the game very boring to play and broke all immersion. For now we are sticking with a FPS/TPS camera setup, similar to that in WoT for Main Caliber artillery and similarly for torpedoes. We might keep arty mode for shooting at very long ranges, but if we do it will come with a price. Carriers will of course have their own RTS-style top-down interface. Each shell leaves it’s own splashes. :)”

T37 Light Tank

Hello everyone,

this morning, first pictures of the upcoming American light branch (coming in 9.3, unless something changes) were leaked, starting with the new tier 6 T37 light tank. Now, we are going to have a look at this interesting piece of engineering, its history and historical performance.

T37-a

Ever since 1945, the US Army started to look for its new future light tank. Sure, there was the Chaffee, but the army was looking for something that would pack a bigger punch. The production of the Chaffee ended in August 1945 with roughly 4.7k made (in the future, they would scatter all over the world, sold to US-friendly countries). Meanwhile, between January and November 1945, an army equipment committee convened twice, each time recommending a new tank development. In the eyes of the committee, this new light tank should have better firepower and mobility than the M24 and should be armed with a 76mm (3in) gun, capable of penetrating 127mm of armor (5in), sloped at 30 degrees at 914 meters (1000 yards). The vehicle was to weigh 25 tons.

Shots that Changed the World…

Hello everyone,

today is a date that I think is worth remembering. A hundred years ago, on 28.6.1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, countess Sophie Chotek, were shot by a Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip, sparking one of the worst conflicts in human history, First World War.

World War Two is undeniably the largest conflict ever fought and it was no doubt a terrible war, but there is something deeply fascinating and disturbing about the terrible battlefields of Flandres and France, with their muddy bleak terrain, raked by mechinegun fire and artillery explosions. First World War also gave birth to or saw the spread of many modern technologies and weapons (such as fighter aircraft, bombers or tanks), a lasting legacy we can feel even today.

For us, World of Tanks players, the development of a tank is definitely the most important aspect of the Great War – it is hard to imagine the dread of the German soldiers, seeing the lumbering monsters for the first time in their lives.

The truth of course was far less dreadful – first tanks were slow, extremely difficult to operate and of limited use. But as the war went on, these machines became refined and deadly, resulting in the legendary FT-17, the great-grandfather of all the modern tanks, first tank to use the “classic” setup with a turret.

Straight Outta Supertest: new tier 6 US LT

Hello everyone,

as you know now, the American light tanks (T5: Chaffee, T6: T37, T7: M41, T8: T49) are coming in 9.3 (hopefully, they were postponed like a bazillion times in the past). First models are making it to the supertest. This is the tier 6, T37 light tank. The top turret you see in this case is apparently the elite one (T41, this would later on become the Walker Bulldog).

27.6.2014

Very little from Russia, but luckily, Tanitha talked about some interesting stuff on ASIA forums (Blitz answers come from Overlord)

- World of Tanks: Blitz is already no.1 free app in RU region after its release
- according to Overlord, WoT Blitz got tremendous support from players, partners and press
- Tanitha confirms that adding new tanks into the game won’t stop
- new French regular tanks most likely won’t come in 2014
- premium ammo is not on sale during events much anymore, because it can be purchased for credits
- developers are considering various “loyalty programs” (bonuses for old players), none have been approved yet however. It’s possible such a system (allegedly quite complicated) will see the light of day around the end of the year
- EU tanks will not come soon (not in 2014) (SS: but they will, horay :))
- the idea to implement TOG II* into the game apparently came from developer visits to the Bovington museum
- currently, the roaming option is not a matter of “when”, but “if at all”, there is apparently no release plan for it at the moment (SS: so it’s possible it won’t come at all)
- US light tanks (the “Chaffee branch”), German LT8 (RU251) and Soviet LT8 (LTTB) are currently planned for 9.3
- Wargaming is cooperating with Sony to promote the tank movie Fury, the movie is still far away (SS: November), but it’s possible there will be an ingame event connected to its release
- interestingly enough, the tier 8 Soviet light tank in the game is referred to as “LTB”, when the semi-historical name is “LTTB” (literally “light tank with heavy armor”)

Early Wartime Deal between Brazil and Germany

Hello everyone,

since we now have the World Cup in Brazil, we might s well look at some of the Brazilian equipment – in this case, the AA guns and halftracks.

During the second half of the 30′s, the army of Brazil (Exército Brasileiro, EB) was in the state of alert. The situation in the world was deteriorating quickly and other South American armies purchasing new and modern weapons did put the Brazilian army superiority at risk. The reports on the desk of the Brazilian chief of staff talked about Chile and Argentina both recieving modern equipment and were pointing out the fact that Brazil was ill-prepared for a sudden enemy incursion. In this hypothetical scenario, in a conflict with its southern neighbors, Brazil could withstand the pressure only for a short time and within 40 days, the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul would be lost. One of the weakest links in the Brazilian army was the near total obsolescence of its artillery. That was why General Eurico Gaspar Dutra, who was also the minister of war in Getulio Vargas’ government, created a searching committee with the task of analysing various products of European countries and looking for new armaments for the Brazilian army.
