Not much today, but with coming patch and holidays, developers will have less time to answer (like last year)

- apparently, Object 268 is not OP, it has worse winrate than Maus
- the way of balancing tanks by winrate is correct according to Storm
- according to Chieftain, the roaming feature is not yet ready, they are still working on fixing some bugs

WG NA Charity: doing it right

Hello everyone,

as some of you remember, I recently criticized Wargaming Europe for just dumping a load of cash on a massive charity. Some of you agreed, some of you disagreed with me, but that’s not the point of this post. The point of this post is the fact that Wargaming (not EU, but NA) can do it right (well, right in my eyes anyway).

Chieftain recently posted on his Facebook page about a little kid named Kurt. With his own words:

So, this is Kurt: A lad who has had an unfortunate coming of age far too young, dealing with Leukemia when most of us, when we were ten, were more wondering about things far more frivolous. Anyway, it turns out he was playing World of Tanks in the hospital, so to thank him for trying to recruit the hospital staff into players, we invited him up to the office, and then down to the local tank museum. He seems to have enjoyed himself.

You can find more pictures of the event as long on Kurt’s FB page.

This is something I can actually appreciate – taking an actual person, who needs and deserves help and helping. I think this is the right way and I really appreciate what WG NA has done. I hope WG NA will continue doing this and perhaps WG EU can learn here a thing or two about really bringing a smile to a child’s face.

How much XP will the IS-6 really cost?

Hello everyone,

so, how much will the IS-6 cost you in experience? Is it 700k XP, right?

Well, no, wrong. There are two things unaccounted for in that equation: free XP and the price of Japanese tree. If we disregard the XP needed to unlock other tier 6 vehicles apart from the Japanese one, it’s most reasonable to first grind the old nations: USA, USSR, France, UK, Germany and China. Each will cost you 100k XP, which means 600k XP in total, which means 30 thousand free bonus XP, that you can use to unlock the Japanese vehicles.

In order to get to Japanese tree tier 6 (shortest way possible, not necesserily the best), you need 66040 XP via the medium line and 65035 XP via the light line. You can dump 30k free XP for this tree, which will leave you at least 35035 XP to grind for, IF you completely disregard other vehicle modules. But then there’s the free XP gain from the remaining 35035 XP. Since you are always getting that 5 percent bonus, all you need to get is 33367 XP to get to tier 6, so the XP starts counting towards your goal. Thus, the IS-6 will cost you 733367 XP with the quickest route through the Japanese tree. At least I hope I have the numbers right :)

More reasonable (and perhaps faster) approach would possibly be to invest into other modules as well. To be honest, I think it’s a shame to skip the lowtier Japanese tanks just so. 30k XP is doable in one day, but not easily.

Next city map – Kharkov

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/2866598.html

Hello everyone,

if you did read Veider’s stream answers, you might remember that in 9.0, first of the planned city maps will arrive – Kharkov. Asian server gives us a small sneak peak about how it will look like:

third_battle_ofkharkiv_684

How do we know it’s Kharkov? Well, first, there is the file name (I kept it from the site original). Second, check the high buildings on the picture. And now this, a real life photo from Kharkov (courtesy of Yozas_Gubka, LJ forums).

Yep, it’s Kharkov. I am looking forward to the next city map :)

Veteran Tanker charity event over – results and aftermath

Hello everyone,

some of you probably remember the Veteran Tanker Charity I posted up 20 days ago.

So, it’s 15.12.2013 and by the notice of carramba66 (event organizer):

The event is officially over.

Also thanks to you, dear readers, the success of this event was completely stunning and none of us, who teamed up to advertise it around, expected it to happen like this. The goal was around 20000 CZK for one man (that equals roughly 730 EUR). By now, there are 158548 CZK (cca 5750 EUR) on the transparent account and it’s clear that the sum will be split amongst more of the former soldiers and tankers. Which ones – that will be decided by the veteran organization, shielding the entire transaction.

We all would – on behalf of the veterans – thank you all for your contributions. Especially surprising were the contributions from abroad, but our gratitude goes to everyone equally. What will happen now:

- the account will remain open for a while longer for the last payments to arrive
- after that, the account owner (carramba66) will transfer the funds to the veteran organization (ČSOL), that will then split the sum amongst the veteran tankers, selected by its representative
- carramba66 will record an interview with the veteran organization spokesperson for everyone to hear, what the money was used for exactly

So, thank you once again!

Important: Please note that from this point onward, all the paypal contributions for FTR will remain with FTR, they will no longer be donated, as the event is officially over.

Veider answers on stream

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/2863712.html

Hello everyone,

Veider (one of the developers) was a stream guest yet again along with Kirill Oreshkin (the chief of WG movie department), here’s what they wrote on the forums (the summary was made by maiorboltach, LJ forums):

- while historical battles will be mostly 15vs15, it is possible that there will be some cases where it is impossible to balance it correctly historically that way, so there might for example be 15vs12 clashes as well
- currently, developers are working on historical battles balance
- the weight of ammo carried will not be taken into account in the future, as compared to the weight of the tank it makes no difference
- KV-5 is doing fine both statistically and farm-wise
- apparently the “free IS-6″ event is confirmed, there will be a video on that in a few days
- there will be changes in FV4202, but not anytime soon – the changes will be “cool” though
- T57 nerf is not planned for now
- there will be LT changes in order to make LT’s more “action-oriented”, but not very soon. Developers do have a lot of plans in mind though. Developers want to make the LT class “self-sufficient”. They identify the LT problems as low vitality (survivability) and slow moving across the map because of the physics
- T-50-2 will definitely not return
