Storm’s Microdigest Q&A

Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/311488.html

Hello everyone,

Storm is talking about some of the upcoming changes in the game:

- developers are hard at work on the new motion physics, test will come soon. There will be two test versions: one will be more realistic with intertia and one will be more arcade-like, with some overrides (fixes) for better maneuverability
- developers are also working a lot on individual missions: descriptions are being fixed, many conditions will change, there will also be interface changes. Some of it will be implemented via a micropatch, some things will appear in upcoming patches
- analysis of the 9.6 accuracy changes shows that the amount of hits and amount of damage done after the change dropped by 0,5 to 2 percent. The amount of loss is depends directly on the vehicle accuracy and shooting distance. The biggest nerf happened to artillery.
- several HD models were removed from 9.7 content: AMX-50/100, IS-3 and Pershing. These vehicles had their collision models changed somewhat and since they are actively used in cybersports and there will be WGL grand final around the time of 9.7, these vehicles will be delayed to only after 9.7
- circular render range will come relatively soon. In 9.7, new BugWorld version will come and then Wargaming will deal with system matters, such as viewrange

Hello everyone,

a bunch of articles for you to see, if you are interested. First, there is an interview with Armored Warfare chief developer, Richard Taylor. Nothing much there, but still, interesting.

Secondly, there’s a 0.9.6 update for the useful region changer mod – if you want to play in the US and RU with EU client for example, it comes in handy. It’s no roaming though, you still need separate accounts.

Third, there’s a couple of articles on Overlord’s blog – by David “Listy” Lister about Project Foil, UK’s line of rocket launchers and a sort of legend about one Turkish corporal, who fired the Big Guns during the Dardanelles breakthrough.

- the fact that there won’t be LT9 and LT10 does not mean that LT8 tanks are equal to MT10 or HT10 in combat, it means they are the best scouts in the game (best suited for the role)
- on long distances, the coordinates of tanks are not accurate, because they get updated only once in a while to optimize server traffic and therefore, they are “estimated” by the client before they get updated by the server again. That can lead to cases, where you shoot at very long distance, but the target is “no longer there” because its position changed server-side, but not client-side due to infrequent (relatively) updates. This can lead to a “ghost shell” effect on long distances, when the player sees the shell pass through the target, while on the server, the target is already somewhere else.
- Q: “I suggest removing arty from the servers for a month and then analyse the results!” A: “I will write this proposal to SerB…” (SS: this is sarcasm. I hope.)
- a player has a feeling that after 9.6, shells started flying slower. Storm states it’s just his feeling.
- the fact that from 9.6, the rule that open-topped vehicles have more viewrange was cancelled does NOT mean that open-topped vehicles will be able to mount ventilation
- Israeli Merkava Mk.I will most likely not appear in WoT, the problem does not seem to be the gun, but the fact that there’s no tree to put it in
- introducing two shell distributions (one for unaimed aim circle and one for fully aimed aim circle) would introduce more camping (SS: as in, everyone would want the critical accuracy advantage)
- German gun penetration used in the game is based on Soviet penetration tables (and methods) at distance of 100 meters

- regarding the accuracy nerf, a player asked Storm whether WG statistical method is correct, since the difference after the nerf is only 1 percent. Storm replies: “We checked. Everything’s as it should be. I think that if I didn’t write in the patchnotes anything about the accuracy, your feeling would be different.” (SS: as in “you wouldn’t even notice”)
- for now there are no plans to change the accuracy further
- platoon finder tool development will start soon (SS: as in, an automated tool that will allow you to look for platoon members)
- it is not true that matchmaker 3.0 (new version that is being developed) will bring symmetrical teams (same vehicles on both sides)
- starting from 9.6, the rule that open topped vehicles have longer viewrange is no longer valid
- it is not known yet, how T-62 HD model turret armor will look like
- in 9.5, an issue appeared that after several battles, some models start having black textures instead of the regular ones. Storm states that this is caused by insufficient amount of memory and that players should reduce the quality of textures to fix it (SS: Bullshit, it’s a bug. The game is simply memory leaking. I don’t have this issue, but Ritagamer (the streamer) has about the same PC as me and has it.)
- no T34 rebalance is planned. These rumors are apparently caused by Russian videomaker TheJoves, who is immensely popular on Russian server – he sometimes posts garbage and lots of people take it as truth.
- maps are always balanced so both bases have about the same winrate (no base has advantage over the other)

- a player claims that this area on IS-7 is bugged, that it allows players to penetrate IS-7 even with very low pen. Storm states that it will not be fixed (SS: as in, it’s intentional).
- T-62A was not reworked to HD yet
- a player was complaining that the Lenin statue on Ensk map is not fully destructable. Storm: “And other objects that are not fully destructable don’t bother you?”
- Storm will investigate numerous complaints of ghost shells from replays on RU forums
- artillery viewrange will also be nerfed just like the TD one was
- Storm states that to “reanimate light tanks” was not the main goal of 9.6
- developers haven’t considered for now to give Foch 155 a gun without an autoloader
- after the Foch 155 nerf some time ago, his statistics are “very average”
- not all bugs in IM description were fixed in 9.6, there will be further fixes

Storm, regarding the possible return of 9.5 accuracy: “Next week, we will study the statistics carefully. Right now, according to preliminary data, the difference in hit accuracy is around 1 percent, within the margin of error. We will investigate it further.”

- Storm states that the alleged 9.6 bug where the tanks are “rotating” on the spot more is just a coincidence
- the platoon invite system will be fixed in the future (the 9.6 interface caused some issues)
- Storm is aware of the Tiger P HD model issue, that makes this weird graphic glitch, it will be fixed
- it’s not sure for now whether in the future, the viewrange of premium tanks will get nerfed as well

Interview with Aleksei Kornyshev (WG E-Sports Project Manager)

Source: http://riotpixels.com/interview-with-aliaksei-kornyshau/

Here’s an interview with some WG e-sports PM by the name of Aleksei Kornyshev. I hate translating interviews literally, so here’s a summary of what’s in it. it’s (shockingly) mostly about e-sports:

- e-sports-wise, WG “matured” in 2014 and introduced new features to WG League
- biggest success for WG e-sports is the launch of the new “attack/defense” mode, which is a joint effort of pro cybersports players and WG game designers, it caused the e-sports battles to be more dynamic instead of campy
- there were no unsuccessful (unmet) goals in 2014 in e-sports
- additional player promotion functions will be introduced this year: in team battles (TB) will have static (pre-made) teams with rating, players will be able to show how good they are in TB and will be able to fight for the title of the strongest TB team in the region
- WG stats show that in TB, players are using all sorts of vehicles and not just “e-sports setups”
- the role of armor in e-sports is not always positive, some say that it negates the tactical element in e-sports
- RNG is not a problem in e-sports, other e-sports games (DOTA 2) have random elements as well
- 2015 WGL Grand Final will be “full of surprises as always”

Friday 13th, spooky!

- individual missions slightly changed the popularity ratios of each vehicle class, but it’s too early to say whether these changes are permanent
- it’s possible that one of the “Prokhorovkas” (Prokhorovka/Fiery Salient) will be removed (the one likely to stay is Fiery Salient)
- Storm confirms that the shells are disappearing after the penetration of the track in some cases, this is not something that needs to be fixed according to him
- after one player complained, Storm checked some bushes in the Airport and Monastery maps and yes, some are bugged (wrong camo values), it will be fixed in the future
- it’s possible that all the limited MM premiums will be removed from the premium shop and ingame store: “Anything can happen. But I won’t confirm anything.”
- HE shell mechanism won’t be reworked to become more complicated as it is now
- HE shell buff? “If we buff tank HE shells, we will also have to buff artillery HE shells and that’s not what we want to do.”

- Q: “RU251 and ELC guny look roughly the same, have the same caliber and about the same size, but one gun’s shells fly slower, why?” A: “Gun performance does not depend on their appearance”
- Storm states that while spotting mechanisms didn’t change in the past, various vehicles’ camo coefficients did
- the leaked Steyr WT model turret is bugged, it’s too low
- developers will further work on larger maps and will try to solve all issues with them
- Storm confirms that in the future, the MM will not only take tier and such in account, but also the role of the tank
- people, who are balancing tanks, are playing a lot
- Q: “If Maus is doing fine statistically, why are players whining to buff it all the time?” A: “Because it’s slow. Slow vehicles are always making people complain, especially unicums”

Hello everyone – I got two e-mails today, asking me whether this site is real:

http://wargamingbonus.com/

Just to be sure – no, it’s a scam site. Do not click it. Linking it here = automatic permaban.

- developers are finishing with the motion physics testing, public test of new MP will come soon
- spotting system was not changed for a very long time
- players can get sometimes stuck in the air when going down slope like this because in current motion physics, the contact points with ground are not the entire tracks, but the roadwheels and in the case linked here, the first roadwheel is hanging in the air (thus it counts as no contact with ground)

9.6 Stream Q&A

Hello everyone,

last night, a stream took place on RU server – the topic was patch 9.6. Participating were various developers: Yuri “HuKoguM” Kuryavy, Aleksei “Inaki” Ilyin and Roman “Riot_Guy” Tabolin. It was not terribly informative, but here’s the transcript, courtesy of VK Ekspress.

- the map Mines was imbalanced in favour of one base, it was slightly reworked in 9.6 with the specific goal of balancing the chance of both teams to capture the mountain
- in a few patches, Prokhorovka will be reworked. The mountain will be moved and one other part will be opened
- air strike and artillery strike SH consumables were implemented to “get rid of total defense tactic”
- there are many new features planned for strongholds, including the bunker consumables
- TD viewrange nerf is supposed to improve the battle dynamics and “teach TD’s to move”
- not all developers finished the StuG missions yet, they have a lot of work
- unlike Prokhorovka, the “island” on Fiery Salient was not changed
- there’s a new “Wargaming TV” project on RU server, aimed at popularizing the “WG Stream” mod, there will be various e-sports streams on it and the mod will have a window, in which various bonus codes will appear
- chat system update is just the first part of the “Chat 2.0″ system – in the future, it will be possible to chat amongst different Wargaming games, it will be also possible to chat with players outside of the game and other features

An interesting article about how Serbian army is getting rid of tanks.

Oh yes and WG NA has a special event, where you can buy a Type 62 for 50 bucks for 24 hours.

And one more thing: just got another email saying “where’s the translations today” – apart from the “don’t rush me” answer (obviously, I’d do it faster if I could), please “like” the Facebook FTR page (if you are into the whole FB thing), I usually write there if there are some issues or delays.

- gold ammo will not be removed from the game
- the AMX-30 “branch” will consist of only two vehicles: AMX-30 prototype and AMX-30
- regarding various attempts of players to propose a full French medium branch: “The fact that you consider it possible to implement doesn’t mean it actually is, there are reasons why it isn’t.”
- Storm confirms that Havok was shelved for a complete overhaul, it won’t come anytime soon
