Insider On Wargaming Meeting: Random Stuff

Hello everyone,

welcome to the third part of the “Wargaming Meeting” posts, where the Insider tells us what happens behind closed doors. The greetings of the day go to French community manager, who not so long ago ranted about FTR on some stream.

- getting back to the “survey” part from last time: Wargaming indeed wants to find out, what is the minimum viable configuration, below which the owners don’t pay for premium and other ingame goods (eg. the game is no longer enjoyable for such weak computers).

The Insider also confirms the upcoming “lunar mode”, with the “lunar Chaffee” having following description:

A lunar combat tank designed to fight in the vacuum of space with 1/6 Earth normal gravity! Equipped with a specially modified chassis that can survive large drops with little damage and armor designed to reflect incoming laser blasts.

Yep, the Chaffee will apparently have a laser gun, the map name is for Moon River. This mode was approved for Xbox, it’s possible it will appear on PC as well (would be strange not to).

Just a few tidbits about World of Warplanes too:

New Motion Physics Trailer by DezGamez

Hello everyone,

I found this video to be very nicely made. The problem with the new physics is that it’s very hard to capture the entire system on video, you really have to FEEL the tank movement. Still, the video is very good, so… enjoy :)

And yes, if you haven’t tried the test yet – do.

28.2.2015

- Storm has an idea for Foch 155 changes: either remove the 155mm autoloader and leave the gun as normal, or give it a 120mm autoloader gun. This is however not a plan, just an idea. He considers the current gun parameters “not normal”
- situations where large caliber shells don’t penetrate very thinly armored targers? Storm: “Give us replays of that. Whenever we ask for replays, everybody backs off.”
- it’s not yet clear, how the situation with new physics where tanks are able to climb to insane places will be solved, but some zones will have to be inaccessible
- the current set of maps for the physics test is “more than enough sufficient” for testing
- the current new physics effect where the tank “slows” as if you were shifting gear is not intentional and will be fixed
- new motion physics will not be split into stages, it will be introduced all at once
- improved motion physics caused the turrets to rotate really fast (SS: combined with improved hull rotation using handbrake), there are no plans to nerf them
- currently, there are 5 connection points with ground (5 roadwheels) defining the movement of the vehicle
- it will be possible for the developers to set the track grip for each suspension individually
- it’s not yet clear whether some vehicles will be rebalanced with new motion physics
- tanks getting to such weird places as this will not be implemented to live server, the possibility to move to such spots will be removed
- there is also a bug in new physics that the tracks on destroyed tanks are stuck in the air (as if the tank was regularily on the ground), this will apparently be fixed

“How the Hell Didn’t THAT Penetrate!?”

Hello everyone,

okay, this is not a serious article, but something Yuri Pasholok made a video of. Check this out – this is Yuri Pasholok, holding a 48 kilogram SU-152 (ML-20) shell.

He’s saying (the first part is hard to hear):

“…this is a 152mm shell from the stock version of the SU-152 SPG. It weighs roughly 48 kilograms. Gentlemen of the game balance department: we, who work in the museum would really like you to tell us – how can you not penetrate with THIS? Thank you.”

Funnily enough, Storm replied with:

“….and this is the guy, who told me on Skype that if the historicity messes up gameplay, then fuck historicity”

on which Yuri Pasholok reacted:

“This is not gameplay, this is ‘patented damage model’. Often fucked up. The fucked up mechanism has even been known for a long time.”

And as a bonus, Yuri Pasholok posted two pictures:

“Didn’t penetrate their armor” (a non-penetrating hit by a 152mm shell at Ferdinand frontal armor that just ripped it apart)

Developer Hour: New Motion Physics

Hello everyone,

weekly Wargaming radio show “Developer Hour”, where developers are talking about various matters, is here again. Today’s topic is “new motion physics” with community managed Roman Tabolin and project manager Roman Kunin. The show was kindly transcribed by VK WoT Express community.

- developers will balance new “camping spots” (lit. “crow nests”), that appear with the introduction of new physics. If such a spot is found to be too imbalanced, it will be fixed immediately.
- there will be several rounds of the physics test
- the most popular tanks of the current test are ELX and AMX-13/90
- graphic fixes of current collision models are not planned for near future
- new motion physics should minimize the amount of cases, where you get stuck on terrain features

Insider On Wargaming Meeting – WoWs, WG EU, More Random Stuff

Continuing from where we left off.

World of Warships

- WG expects a large amount of NA players, as NA is most enthralled with naval warfare historically speaking and has already made a number of players sign up and wishing to try it out, one video in particular has caused a certain degree of hype (it’s on Youtube, it’s a battle with a player using the Yamato)
- Generic player whiner: “OMG carriers are the arty of WoWs!” Developer answer: “Sail with AA boats near you, problem solved and piss off whiny bitch” (SS: before you get outraged, this is an INTERNAL discussion, you are not even supposed to see this)
- WG is aware of certain shortcomings of the WoWs staff and expects to have such shortcomings solved properly (Insider: “I’m guessing this concerns someone called “Challenger”)
- German tech tree will be redesigned to add more boats
- posting the “rising sun flag” in the EU/NA forums? Here’s an answer straight from a developer:

“With respect to history, the Kyokujitsu-ki, or “Rising Sun” flag of the Imperial Japanese Navy, has some negative connotations as a war flag, that makes it controversial throughout the world. At Wargaming, it has been our policy to substitute these flags in-game with the Hinomaru flag (red circle representing the sun upon a white field).

Insider On Wargaming Meeting – General Info, WoWp Future

Hello everyone,

the Insider continues to give us the info on Wargaming’s internal meeting (continued from yesterday)

- physics test has been a success so far, the tanks behave *almost* perfectly, one of the main concerns of the staff was not to end up with very heavy tanks doing powerslides WT style, this was avoided correctly and they would like for players to test trying to flip enemy tanks, “the data would be very valuable”
- arty is affected too by terrain – when moving that is, so moving your artillery while aiming is still a near-to-impossible feat “the ground didn’t become smoother, but your suspension is a little more forgiving, just dont expect to kill anything”

- It’s entirely possible to add weather system to WoT – rain, snowstorms, duststorms, etc, and the graphics requirements wouldn’t be even that high to excecute them, however a lot of “ancient PC’s would get fried”. In fact, Wargaming will run a special investigation into the “PC specs versus payments” to find out, whether the owners of really old PC’s are actually paying for premium or not and where exactly the threshold is.
