Carrying a Name

Author: David “Listy” Lister

Hello everyone,

today, we have something special, a guest article by David “Listy” Lister. You probably know the game from EU portal, where he wrote several interesting articles for Challenger’s historical section.

Carrying a Name

One mistake I see over and over again, in both museums and on-line forums, is getting the name of armoured fighting vehicles wrong. One of the worst for this is the British Carrier family. What many don’t realise is that all the different names used for the vehicle are actually very specific models. So want to be able to correct someone, or point out that a display plaque is wrong at a museum? Then read on.

EU weekend event review

Hello everyone,

so, today in the morning, I finished the EU event mission, awarding the 1 million credits, 7 days of premium and some premium consumables (worth 300k in total, so that’s 1300k credits). As you might know (SEA also had this event, I thought NA had it too, but I was wrong), the goal was to gather 20 kills on StuG III, 20 on Type T-34 and 20 on Churchill I. The mission goals were comprehensible in general, apart from two moments:

- on EU server I noticed several complaints about the fact that you have to finish one extra battle after those 60 kills, which led some people to believe that it has to be finished in one of the mission vehicles

Commonwealth Uncommons – The Universals

In a recent Q&A (Friday the 13th’s) serB was asked if there was enough British heavies or mediums for a for a second Branch.

“doubtful”

This is probably part laziness and part ignorance. I’m going to start a short series, explaining some of the additional branches that could rather easily be added (okay, some of them are a little more difficult than others, but it certainly isn’t doubtful)

Ensign’s Q&A #13

Welcome to the 13th edition of Ensign’s Q&A. You know the drill: email me questions at tankarchives@gmail.com, and I will answer them. The previous Q&A can be found here.

Q: Were all KV transmissions as bad as the Aberdeen one?

A: No, the one Aberdeen received was “gently” used. KV transmissions were typically much more reliable.

Q: How much did the various KV designs have in common?

A: I don’t know exactly, but there are requirements for parts commonality in some project specs (usually SPGs based on an existing vehicle). I’d have to read the specs to see exactly how much, but parts commonality with existing vehicles can be a great bonus to getting your design chosen among competing ones.

14.9.2013

- Storm on fixing longer waiting times on RU server: “It is now needed to trace (SS: as in ‘pin down’) existing problems so they can be fixed later”
- Q: “Why are Japanese tankers now so blonde and have names like Emil and Dietrich?” A: “Those are allied kids on an exchange trip” (SS: currently, Japanese crew in Chi Nu Kai – upcoming 8.9 premium Japanese tank – consists temporarily of German crewmen”
- when you lose, if you recieved certain awards, you will get the same XP/credit bonus as if you won (“curagous resistance”). Storm stated that other variants (SS: the asking player for example mentioned for damage done) are worse for various reasons (and when nagged further about this, he only replies: “envy is bad”)
