Hello everyone, have a look at an interesting article about the studio behind BigWorld.

Also, the Winter Mode is here, so just to refresh your memory, here’s a guide based on RU server experience.

- Wargaming is preparing a unified launcher for WoT, WoWs and WoWp apparently
- there will be a special (portal/forum) post about the accuracy changes in 9.6
- Firefly viewrange will be buffed to be comparable to other tanks of its class and tier
- spotting system will be reworked to eliminate the “tanks disappearing in the middle of the field” issue, ETA is “when it’s done it’s done”
- IM reward StuG IV will be useable in historical battles (when they return)
- small visual errors in models (like too shallow barrels and such) will be fixed until 9.6 release
- it would seem logical to introduce a feature where – if standing behind two bushes – you wouldn’t see the silhouette of enemy tank, but Storm confirms this was not done because a mod enabling the silhouettes back again would appear very soon
- T57 Heavy will not be buffed

Wargaming As Usual, 0.9.6 Edition

Hello everyone,

I have to admit, this is something that actually slipped through my net, because I simply did not believe that after the “M53/M55 flying turret” fiasco, Wargaming would screw around with model/collision model inconsistency again. But… check this out.

This is the AMX-50B HD model – a comparison between the visual and collision model. Look at the turret cradle (the part below the turret).

As you can see, a significant part of the cradle is missing from the turret in the collision model, creating an exposed “strip” of armor. There’s one other mistake on the HD model, the hatches – the upper part of the hatches on the roof is missing from the collision model.

Also notice the frontal plate shape difference between collision and visual model. Yes, there is a hole on the side of the armor.

Why am I posting this – after all, it’s still 9.6 test, right? To catch the bugs and all that? Well, last time this happened, it went live with such a bug (again, the “flying turret”) and the results you probably know.

Well, I guess I’ll have to go over models again to check for this kind of pitfalls.

0.9.6: Friendship is “Magic”

Hello everyone,

let’s have a quick look at how the “friends” mechanism was reworked in 0.9.6 as a part of the contact list overhaul, because there’s a MAJOR change in the mechanism. As I am sure you all know, in current World of Tanks, having someone in “friends” list is simply done by looking for that person and adding him to your contact list. That is no longer possible – in 0.9.6, this was changed to work as it usually does in social networks. Basically, before someone adds you, you have to approve him – a system message will pop up on the right side of the list with a confirmation, whether you want that person to add you as a friend, or not.

You can press either “accept” or “decline” (in this case, I “declined” for test purposes)

If you press “accept”, you will appear in their friend’s list and he in yours. I am not quite sure how this will work with your existing contacts, presumably (as can be seen on test) your friend list will just somehow import, as it is on the test. But what if a lot of people have you as their “friend” while you don’t have them? I assume that only contacts that are in both friend lists will somehow merge into new “friendship”.

This system has one advantage though – people, who are not in your friend list, will not be able to send you any messages:

What this means is that no longer will you get hateful messages (for example when you kill someone with artillery :P) after the battle. What is however NOT solved is that there’s no option to not allow any people to add you, so I am sure that various WoT “celebrities” will have to deal with constant spam of friend invites in system messages.

0.9.5.1 UI Bug (“Closing Windows”)?

Hello everyone,

numerous people reported a strange bug in the 0.9.5.1 minipatch. This issue caught my attention because I recieved 7 mails from people describing it and of all of them, 5 claimed that they had no mods present.

Basically, the bug is, when you want to sell a tank and open the “sell” window, the window quickly closes before you manage to type in the price. There is an emeregency workaround for that  – you just type the price into the chat, copy it (ctrl+c) and paste it (ctrl+v) into the window before it closes (thanks to CadyDady for this one).

I tested it myself and I was unable to replicate this bug even after multiple attempts, leading me to suspicion that this is not something caused by a bug, but that it’s caused by bad mods. One of the people in the thread mentioned he’s using Oldskool’s mods, so that probably is the issue.

Please be aware: some modders are pigs, who make their shitty modpacks overwrite ORIGINAL files in the game folder (copying mod content over the ingame files) – even if you then remove such a modpack from the res_mods folder, its traces (the files it has overwritten in other game folders) will remain and possibly fuck your game up during the nearest update. In other words, be careful what you install.

Chinese Tank WZ-121 and 113 (Part 2)

Author: Chickentikka

Part 1 can be found here.

The Type 69 was known as the WZ-121 in industrial designation. In 1966, Factory 617 managed to produce the first prototype. The development was very slow because of the cultural Revolution (it’s one of the biggest failures, caused the delay of the development of the WHOLE country by around 20 years at least, so no doubt it affected tanks as well) and the lack of any help from anyone.

The breakthrough happened when China had a border clash with the Russians at an island called Zhenbaodao, also known as Damanskii Island.

Russians, knowing that the T-62 was a top secret tank that should not be captured, launched artillery shells at the T-62 sinking it into the river. None the less, the battle heroes, while reporting in the People’s congress, told the leaders that there is a T-62 on the bottom of the river. China then got divers and machines to take it out of the water.

Interesting history about the Rudy tank. It was this tank that spawned the rumors on Russian forums about the Polish branch coming up soon (it’s not) and this being its first premium. From the POV of (former) EU tree development, I knew that this was not the case (first “European” premium will be something quite different). The way it will be implemented – I think it’ll get a special Polish crew “Fury style” (the names of the crewmen from the TV series), although it will technically still be Soviet.

Oh yes, and according to Russian leakers, the tank will be the T-34/85 of the post-war Polish production (T-34/85M2 model IIRC).

- oddly enough, the E-100 inside of the gun barrel model (the rifling) is only like 20cm long, while IS-7 rifling model runs through the entire barrel. Storm states it’s just a little thing, so who cares.
- the size of the HD E-100 changed as such: it became 1cm longer, 1cm wider and 3cm taller
- the color of the HD E-100 is correct (same as of other HD German tanks), will not be changed
- differences in model sizes from original specs of 1 percent or less are considered acceptable
- E-100 mantlet in HD was remodelled to correspond the one in Panzer Tracts
- HD E-100 “bar” on the top of the turret (rangefinder optics) will be made lower (the same as it was)
- HD E-100 upper front plate angle is actually better than it should be (63 degrees compared to 60 degrees in reality), it will not be nerfed to historical specs
- E-100 will not get a (historical) Maus turret

Chinese Tank 121 and T-34-X Series (Part 1)

Author: Chickentikka

So, I wrote the Type-59 article last time and it seemed to get some praises and some of you guys requested more tank history articles on Chinese tanks, since there isn’t many info on them in English.

In this article, I am going to write about the 121 and other vehicles such as Type 69 and more.

First, I MUST make this fact clear: 121 is not WZ-121! It seems like a lot of you thinks 121 is WZ-121, but it’s not. 121 was China’s first generation tank. As I have mentioned in the Type 59 article, China and USSR broke apart in relationship and so, China had to produce Type 59′s (copy of T-54A). In 1962, China’s engineers predicted the likely future threats to tanks – and so, 121 was selected as the designation for the first generation tank plan. Later on, the 121 program was abandoned due to the development of 2nd generation tanks and the designation number 121 was passed over by the Type 69 (designated WZ-121). So technically, there are big differences between 121 and WZ-121.

Background

121′s goal was to be a tank on par with Soviet and Western 2nd Gen tanks, such as the T-62. To give you guys an interesting extra piece of information, China’s main tank development was divided to medium tanks (later called MBT), heavies and lights are kind of secondary importance compared to the mediums. In terms of heavy tanks, 111 and 112 used different road wheel layout, similar to that of IS-4 and ST-I, but after some debates, 111 tank plan won and it was further developed (I don’t want to go into too much details on heavies here, but I am sure on FTR, there was a WZ-111 article previously).

Italeri World of Tanks M4 Sherman Model Kit 1:35

Warning, this post contains large pictures.

Author: Kawagreen

Introduction

Hello fellow tankers, I am KawaGreen from KAZNA. My girlfriend gave me the entire Italeri World of Tanks model set as a present for my birthday. These include the M4 Sherman, Ferdinand, M24 Chaffee and Pz. Kpfw. VI Tiger. I will also complete them in that order. She also bought the paint set with 6 colors.

When I was around the age of 12, I used to build model aircraft kits from Revel. But I really didn’t have the dedication and patience I have today at the age of 25. So all those models were kind of garbage when I finished them, but a good time consuming practice, so I liked it. My girlfriend ordered the set on a Monday and I received them on a Wednesday. Pretty good delivery time from Italy –> Belgium.

Building the M4 Sherman

First thing I noticed when unpacking was that I didn’t have all the colors to even start at building it. So first thing I did was open all the boxes, get the manuals out and write down all the paint color codes. I could have ordered them at the Italeri webshop but I wanted to start building right away. So I called a couple of model stores asking if they had the Italeri paint. No success so I found a paint convert table online where I could find the corresponding revel paint. So I then went to buy all the other paint I needed for all the models from Revel. Set me back around €35.
