21.10.2013

Please note that the Golden Joystick results stream will take place on 25.10.2013

- SerB states that WoT won’t be transferred to a new game engine, it would increase the costs and reduce the speed of development
- there has been a project to put a gun more powerful than the BL-9 on IS-3: the D-83
- a high power 122mm gun was tested on an IS-2 (more powerful than the D-25)
- there were plans to equip the Tigers with engines more powerful than the 700hp one, for example an 870hp Maybach, there were even more advanced engines, but not for Tiger – by the time they were developed, Tiger was already replaced by Tiger II (and in future by E-75)

IS-3 armor tests

Author: Yuri Pasholok

Hello everyone,

Yuri Pasholok posted a set of interesting materials from IS-3 “pike nose” testing. Here’s what he posted:

152150_original

The first part of the document states that the hull armor elements were tested under following angles (from the axis of the vehicle, eg. 0 means shooting directly from front, 320 means it is being shot from the left side unde 40 degrees)

Potential Hull Upgrades: Soviet Medium Tanks

In a previous article, I explored potential hull upgrades for Soviet light tanks. Today, I will go one weight class up, and do the same for medium tanks.

The first medium tank encountered in the Soviet tech tree is the T-28, at tier 4. Tanks produced before 1938 had riveted cemented armour, tanks produced after had homogeneous welded armour. However, the game does not distinguish between the two, and the changes would be largely cosmetic. A much more noticeable change would be brought by, once again, applying armour screens.

Addition of 20-30 mm armoured plates increases front armour to 60 mm, but also increases the tank’s mass to 32 tons, which would definitely result in a performance hit. For those of you looking for photographs of these up-armoured tanks, go no further than here, as this website contains photos of 60 out of 111 vehicles that received additional armour.

Hello everyone,

want to read something nice about armor angling? Check newest Chieftain’s Hatch

Nothing much today answer-wise, though.

- there will be no more “Mouse-trap-like” achievements for high tier tank kills other than Maus, it’s there for the Maus because Maus is unique
- according to Storm, binding your account to a cell phone number provides enough security from account hijacking

New login screen: what’s the tank?

Hello everyone,

some of you already noticed the new WoT login screen.

996949_448674185250153_281833341_n

So, the upper tank on it is obviously a Waffenträger, but what is the lower one? One guy asked me and I honestly couldn’t produce the answer. He suggested it’s a T95 Medium Tank, but the roadwheels on the WG picture have no gaps, unlike the real T95 ones…

Edit: I am blind as a bat: it’s a Crusader with 2pdr (and stock turret).

19.10.2013

Please note that today is the last day you can vote for Golden Joystick and claim your free game (Civilization V or Mafia II).

Not much today

- SerB states that there were three official letters (from official adress) from German authorities regarding the Wittman medal, they won’t be made public though
- SerB openly states that there is (and always was) more XP reward for kills than just for damage done (SS: odd, I thought damage was rewarded and not kills, a player made “experiment” states that a kill XP bonus is worth roughly 500 damage dealt OR damage dealt after your spotting, what the hell?)
- in personal rating, your average vehicle tier won’t play a role in the future
- SerB confirms that top guns are not always “the best”, in some cases there are two alternative “equal” setups (SS: as in the new WT line, where you can play both a 128mm or 150mm guns on high tiers), but not always
- amphibious tanks won’t be implemented for now, there was an idea to implement them as premium vehicles without the ampbhibious parts (SS: floaters, boat boarding and such), but this idea was scrapped for “a number of reasons”

Syria: T-72 versus a terrorist with RPG-7

Source: Yuri Pasholok’s blog

I normally don’t post modern stuff, but this footage is pretty unique. According to the Russian man commenting the situation, Syrian government T-72 is looking for enemy combatants, hiding on 1st floor of the building. At one point, the terrorist shoots a RPG-7 at the vehicle, misses and the T-72 blasts him to hell.

The “Turbopanther” – Panther Ausf.F mit Gasturbine

Hello everyone,

this will be possibly the last article about the Panther, as we covered pretty much everything that looks like an interesting option for the Panther. Only one “specialized vehicle” is left: the Turbo Panther. Of course, that’s not its real name, that’s a name SerB used for it. You see, SerB admitted (several times in fact), that there is a possibility (not guarantee), that the E-50 and E-50M will be merged into one vehicle on tier 10 (with rear-transmission E-50M being an optional hull for the E-50) and on tier 9, it might be replaced by something called “Turbopantera” – “the Turbo Panther”.

031

What is meant by that is most likely the gas turbine Panther. This topic has already been covered and there is a pretty good article on Wikipedia (it’s good mostly because its content is practically copied from the A.Kay’s book German Jet Engine and Gas Turbine Development 1930-1945).
