Storm asks about 8.11 microfreezes

Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/276778.html

Hello everyone,

Storm heard the reports that there are allegedly a lot microfreezes What he understands by that are short sharp drops in FPS and short lags in tank movement, shooting etc. in 8.11.
From the discussion:

- Veider personally states that he didn’t observe any such a thing
- Storm admits that updating the game to a new patch (client-side) can cause lags, because the amount of data transferred “clogs” the provider internet paths (SS: sorry, if there is any correct terminology, I don’t know it)

And what about you, seen microlags in 8.11? At least they are aware of the issue.

Belarus: a WoT tank thief criminally charged

Source: http://habrahabr.ru/post/212307/

Hello everyone,

apparently, in Belarus, WoT tank theft is taken very, very seriously. A criminal investigation was opened in the Belarus’ Brest region in a case of a World of Tanks account theft. WoT player, a 30 year old man from the town of Pruzhany contacted local police and said that his WoT account was stolen. He said to the police that his account contained an IS-8 tank and he spent like 1,2 mil BYR (cca 91 Euro) on that account.

After the report, the police contacted Wargaming, that helped them find the thief, because the account was continuously in use. The account was also blocked as a result. According to the police, the “hacker” managed to steal the account using the owner’s e-mail, because the password was really simple to guess.

Either way, according to the report, the “hacker” was charged with the crime of “illegal access to computer information”.

On outrageous Wargaming history posts

Hello everyone,

Wargaming usually presents us with articles, that are kinda nice. For example the history of the British flamethrower tanks (was it by Listy? I think so) – or Challenger’s historical posts. Every now and then however, they have what Rita would probably call a “brain fart” and just copy stuff from Russian portal.

Needless to say, that is not a good idea. For all their vaunted “remember history” campaigns, what Wargaming generally means is “remember Russian history”. SerB wrote it himself: if you want to do business in Russia, you have to be patriotic. No “we are all equal” – it’s more like “Russia stronk”. This of course comes with a “price” of having the historical post somewhat biased. I actually hate the word “biased”, but I guess it describes the situation best. This is not the first time Wargaming EU did this (some of you odlschool players might remember the Kliment Voroshilov weekend), but it’s not very common, thanks god.

BotDetect for WoT 8.11

Hello everyone,

remember the bot-hunting mod Locastan and St0rmshadow did put together?

Well, now a version is available for 8.11, with the list of bots actualized practically every day. You can download it here. And how do you know it actually works? Simple. Wargaming EU locked its thread on forums and deleted several more. That’s the best reference ;)

What you wanted to know, but were afraid to ask

The Internet is a truly wonderful thing. At the touch of a button, you can access information that would have taken days, maybe even years, to discover previously. Over the past months (nearly a year, hooray!), SS, myself, and many other talented authors and researchers on this blog, as well as an uncountable number of others, have provided you with volumes information about historical armoured vehicles. Countless numbers and statistics have been provided to the public, countless questions asked and answered.

Except this one. This is a very important question, and many man-hours and millions of dollars have went into solving it in various other fields, but goes unnoticed by the average person.

How do you poop in a WWII tank?

12.2.2014

- Storm states that the fact artillery MM weight was reduced by 10 percent does not mean that artillery absolutely cannot appear as a top top vehicle of the team, it only means the chance of such a thing happening is much lower
- it is a known fact that WG support employees can be mistaken: recently, a player asked on RU forums whether the spall liner reduced chance of crew being wounded applies only to HE shells. The support employee answered that yes, but Storm states that it works for all shells.
- Storm states that some players reported that in 8.11, the effect if shells hitting your tank is much less noticable than before, he states WG is investigating the issue
- SU-122-44 bad in Confrontation mode (national battles)? “Don’t play SU-122-44″
- Storm asked players, whether they experience some sort of issue, where shells in sniper mode don’t fly from the center of the sniper scope, but from upper left side of it for example (SS: yes! I’ve noticed exactly this issue on my Centurion I, I found it very very weird, running no mods too)
- apparently the new ricochet effects are historically correct
- T-54 will be reworked into HD in 9.0
- until HD models arrive, Type 59 model will not be touched
- no plans to add 3rd turret to T-54
- Storm states that statistically, the amount of long waiting time cases on tier 8 became much smaller

Storm writes on 8.11

Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/276336.html

Hello everyone,

Storm is asking the players, how they like the 8.11 patch. He specifically states that

- WG knows about the FOV issue, it will most likely be fixed (by a hotfix apparently) to the old 8.10 setting and in 9.0 there will be an option to set it manually in settings
- mastery badges other than the highest one won’t be shown in battle results repeatedly

From the discussion

- apparently, there is a problem in delay of visual effects on a tank being hit display, Storm is asking about it
- apparently the Russians had ping issues in 8.11 as well, just like the EU
- most people on RU forums have seen FPS raise actually, not drop
- the function to move the “native” crew into a tank with one click will also be implemented
- it’s 100 percent sure that the camera (apart from the FOV change) was not moved vertically (up or down), WG checked

More answers will be in the evening QA.

German WW2 vehicle found

Source: express.de

Thanks to all of you who sent me this link :)

During excavation works near the train station in Euskirchen, remnants of a German WW2 vehicle were found by a building company.

26152812,25104447,highRes,bundespolizeiinspektionaachenbergungpanzer4

It is in fact not a real tank, but a demolition vehicle – the Borgward IV – a remotely operated minitank, that rolled to an obstacle and blew it up.

Strange poll on EU server

Hello everyone,

have you noticed the WG EU portal poll on the “Let’s battle” magazine? Here it is:

likeIgiveafuck

So… uh… you either did read it, will read it or would love to, if you had anything to read it with, where’s the “I don’t give a fuck about it” option?

8.11 FOV fix

Source: EU forums
Author: Amayii

Hello everyone,

you didn’t like the field of view change in 8.11? Here’s a way how to fix it.

- download this mod
- unpack it
- put the file “avatar_input_handler.xml” you just unpaced to the “World_of_Tanks\res_mods\0.8.11\gui\” folder (if the gui folder doesn’t exist, just create it)
- run the game

Now, the mod above was made for 16:9 screen ratio, so I don’t know how well will it work for other resolutions and ratios. You can however modify it to fit your demands. Here’s how:

- you have to open the avatar_input_handler.xml (in the folder you just put it in)
- if you want more field of view, you find the line and change the number after it for a higher one.
- be careful that you have to change the vertical FOV as well, otherwise it will look weird
- find the < verticalFov> line
- calculate your desired vertical FOV using this tool
- change the vertical FOV number for the one you just calculated
- run the game

I guess it will take some experimenting. Honorable mention goes to Locastan, who responded immediately to my request to create such a mod. Thanks mate.
