Meeting with SerB

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/2713623.html

Well, a couple of Russian guys met SerB in person on a conference at Nizhny Novgorod and asked him a bunch of questions, there’s a photo in the post linked above. Some info gleaned from SerB:

- in 0.9.0 there will be more graphic improvements and possibly Japanese branch, 0.9.0 will come around New Year
- the amount of polygons on tank will be increased three times (10 thousand to 30 thousand), some vehicles will have even 50 thousand, this graphics improvement will come in 2014

Don’t forget to check Listy’s new article on Yom Kippu War

Oh ye, one more thing, if you vote for Golden Joystick (no matter who for), you’ll be able to pick a free game (Mafia II or Civilization V) via Steam I think.

- SerB on War Thunder tank trees, when asked, whether he considers them to be epic fail: “Well, I won’t comment on ‘epic fail’, it’s more like different approaches to making branches”
- SerB on T-35 (multi-turret Soviet tank): “I don’t know what is it good for, apart from having it in your garage. It’s the same as in real life – it served only for show”, when asked what’s the big difference from TOGII, he replied “the gun”
- Q: “Why didn’t you add T-34/100 in the game?” A:”Because we decided to add other tanks.”
- Q: “You added a TD that can kill almost any tank with one autoloader clip, what’s then point of that?” A: “The point of that is to add a TD that can kill almost any tank with one autoloader clip.”

Well, that’s it for today, I guess SerB is not happy:

- Storm states that exact vehicle changes weren’t in the test server patchnotes, because those get written only in the final patchnotes that will go live
- trees growing from stones (North-West map) are a bug
- Storm confirms that the frontal armor angle of IS-4 has been fixed
- recently the graphics have not been touched (SS: some players complain about FPS drops in hangar)

Well, the test is here. I am not sure how soon will I “join the action” and bring you the screenies, because (I guess due to the enormous interest in German vehicles) the download goes much slower than it usually does. Standby.

- apparently, the variant where there would be a transfer from old German TD branch to the new one is not considered
- Storm states that the developers never said there would be no tier 10 mediums, it’s players who made this up
- KV-5 will not return to the ingame shop for now
- the aim of the midtier arty buff in 8.9 is not aimed at reducing the number of TD’s in game, but to buff certain specific underperforming vehicles
- it’s “completely possible” certain popular hightier TD’s will be nerfed, but there will not be a TD hardcap

- SerB states that he’d like to have more than two turrets per vehicle (SS: in some cases at least)
- accuracy rebalance is not planned
- SerB states that the reason for the drawing distance and spotting limit is that on one hand the typical engaging distance during WW2 was 300-500 meters, but on the other hand also the fact that it’s not interesting gameplay-wise to shoot “dots on the horizon”
- anti-aliasing TXAA? “when it’s done it’s done”, but apparently not anytime soon, it hasn’t been decided yet when it will come

Ready for tomorrow? I know I am, took a day off, so the news from the test should be… quick :)

Also note that wotreplays.org site is back online, if you want, check it out.

- the development of WoWp clouds is tied to the smokescreens in WoT, when it is optimized, WG will develop smokescreens based on it
- apparently, smoke (SS: from burning wrecks mentioned) will work like the bushes in WoWp and it will work that way in WoT too
- 122mm D-83 gun (Object 167, Object 430U IIRC) won’t be implemented now, it’s too OP, but the developers keep it in mind
- regarding autoloading Soviet tanks, SerB states that in 1943, autoloaders for both the KV and T-34 were developed, but they won’t be implemented for now

- according to The_Chieftain, WG is talking about the American premium tank destroyer, it could have a 6 man crew
- from the same source, there was a talk about replacing the T28 with something historical, but no details
- according to SerB, the King of Jordan, who plays WoT, plays German branch

For those interested in mobile gaming, Overlord wrote the requirements for World of Tanks: Blitz

- currently, HEAT shells are subject to 3-caliber and 10-caliber rules (SS: 3-caliber rule concerns overmatch, 10-caliber rule concerns the length of the shell flight within the vehicle)
- Superpershing will be sellable for gold only before 8.9 goes live
- SerB states that “tests will show”, what computer will run improved graphics in WoT at 50-60FPS, but it should be “normal gaming computer”
- Radeon notebook graphic card optimizations for WoT? “I will tell when it’s done”

Hey everyone,

check out Listy’s article on Allied drone bombers in WW2.

Also, I promised to write something on Yom Kippur (today is the 40th anniversary of that war’s beginning). Didn’t manage to do that unfortunately, but I haven’t forgotten. Will think about that – after all, its end (25.10.1973) is something to celebrate too.

QA:

- demo video of new WoT graphics? “When it’s done it’s done”
- box edition of WoWp will come only after online release (if at all)
- SerB states that the 25 percent random factor reflects the reality (SS: kinda correct, all sorts of weird stuff could happen when a shell hit an armor)

5.10.2013

- the gameplay between WoT and WoTXbox is incompatible, Xbox version has various features to compensate for the clumsiness of the game controller, so that the gameplay could at least a bit compare to the mouse one
- SerB states that the statement “Cybersport mostly consists of organizational matters, changes in the client are minimal” is not correct
- SerB states that the 7/42 has different rating, because it’s for the e-sports players (SS: not every random player)
