Hungarian Firepower: Nimród and Nimród 80mm tank destroyers

Author: Károly “Karika” Németh

Hello everyone,

the following post deals with the history and possible implementation (viability) of the Hungarian Nimród tank destroyer in detail. It was written by Károly “Karika” Németh and after seeing it, I specifically asked for his permission to publish it on For the Record – the reason for that is that I haven’t seen the info on 80mm Nimród project anywhere else on the web (at least in English) and it might be new to many of you, dear readers.

History:

One yeat after the first L-60 light tank were purchased, in 1937 the Swedish Landsverk factory presented the L-62 anti-tank and anti-air self-propelled machingun to the Hungarian Army. The HM (Hungarian Ministry of Defense) was interested, and ordered a prototype. After the first trials in Sweden, in 1939, and the hungarian MÁVAG factory bought a prototype and the production rights.
The main reason why the hungarians bought the L-62 was that their military leaders thought that the freshly equipped troops could use some fast, all-terrain, mechanized anti-air support (and anti-tank support in the conditions of the late 1930’s) vehicle, and its 40mm Bofors gun was already manufactured in Hungary and and resembled in many ways to the already bought L-60/Toldi.

Theirs is the Glory (1946)

This movie is actually a half-document about the Operation Market Garden and British troops fighting in it. It’s very interesting in one aspect: its creators used real life German vehicles and weapons during the production, so we can see Panthers rolling around, not something you will see in modern movies. Well, maybe except for the upcoming Fury.

Amphibious T-34

Source: Yuri Pasholok’s blog

Hello everyone,

as I wrote before, Yuri Pasholok, regardless of what we might think of him, posts pretty interesting stuff on his blog. This time, it’s something “special” – a Czech proposal actually, to make the T-34 amphibious. As some of you know, Czechoslovak units were fighting on the eastern front against the Germans under the command of the Red Army. Formed in 1942, Czechoslovak units participated in the 1943 Battle of Kharkov and proved their worth during the Liberation of Kiev, in which several Czechoslovak soldiers (tankers actually, I will write about this once I collect enough sources on the battle) recieved the Hero of the USSR high award.

Historical battle interface prototype

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/2963933.html

Hello everyone,

Maiorboltach from the RU community posted about this nice little thing – in recent “Poka vse v tanke” video (sort of like videoblog with another popular Russian girl moderator), an interesting thing was shown: Historical battle mode interface prototype. Don’t be freaked out by the vehicles, it’s just a prototype with placeholders.

The first picture shows the historical battle ammo loadout screen, looks like the gold ammo will really be limited and the ammo setup is actually pre-set, you buy this preset in its entirety.

Beware of Greeks bearing gifts…

Hello everyone,

no, this post will not be about Greek players in World of Tanks, the title of the post is an English proverb, that came originally from the Aeneid. It will be about yet another way how to screw someone in World of Tanks, a way that has been in existence practically since the beginning, yet still happens from time to time. For a lot of you it might be an old and known issue, but it is still actual, so it is better to repeat something, that was said a thousand times rather than to have someone fall for it.

Three days ago, I was contacted by a player, who wants obviously to remain anonymous. That player (or his friend, without names it hardly matters) was just a regular player, until this Christmas, when he recieved a gift from the premium shop, the E-25 tank, from an unknown donor. Considering it a Christmas present from his friend, he accepted it and everything went smooth until recently, when his account was banned out of the blue. Not understanding the situation, he wrote a support ticket, asking what the hell is going on. The reply of Wargaming support staff member was as follows:

We would like to inform you that you have initiated a chargeback process with our company, a gift that you have accepted has been charged back. This chargeback is a result of withdrawing the money the person who gave you the gift used to purchase goods on our website. Therefore; if you want to remove the chargeback form your account you will need to buy an amount of at least 6700 Gold, form our website (the price of the gift received) that will be removed and your account unlocked. When your transaction is successfully completed please notify us and we will then reactivate your account after a successfull proof of payment validation (attach one after the payment)

Defoliant mod now illegal on US server

Thanks to Beerstein for this info.

Hello everyone,

just a quick announcement: up till recently, US server was pretty much the only server allowing the use of the “defoliant” mod (flora remover – that removed all the bush and tree leaves in the game to help you cheat “increase your FPS”) – well until November 2013 (for those interested, here is a ticket history of Beerstein, it’s mentioned in the text).

However, this has changed around December and now the mod is considered illegal:

So, to all of you, mod users out there, don’t tell anyone don’t use cheat mods!
