Winter Mode – Tips and Tricks

Guide on How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the “Winter mode” Author: Origami Chiken Hello, with “Winter mode” soon to hit EU servers I wonder if you would like to read/post some heads up information. I have an account on RU cluster and took the opportunity to test this mode for a while. This is what I have learned so far: – The one and only thing you are interested in is damage. You get 0 XP/credits for winning, frags or cap/defense. In fact, the best way to screw the game for everyone, including yourself, is to smash your way to the flag and win by capping. XP, crew XP and credits are awarded only for completing special missions. In LTs player needs to do over 1700 damage, HTs – over 2500, TDs – over 3300. That’s it. Win or loose you get exactly the same reward as long as you do required amount of damage. Needless to say, results of these matches do not reflect on the overall account statistics. One more reason not to care for anything else but damage. Unlike regular matches though, you get the same reward whether you do 1700/2500/3000 or 7000 damage. After some time when “fun” part is no longer fun you can just rush the enemy as soon as you do required damage without playing to the end. I did not try leaving match while my tank was still intact. I can’t tell if “deserting” penalties apply in this mode.

5.1.2015

Nothing much today. Russian players are not amused that in the Winter Mode, you have to buy the healing shells for gold (or a lot of credits), basically as premium ammo. Another massive source of butthurt is the fact that the “winter mode” broke many mods. Evilly states to this: “We don’t test it for the compatibility with mods. We contacted the mod makers, they will fix it. Until the fix, you have to empty the mod folder. Specifically the garage tank carousel mods.” Another complaint was that the LT sucks in this mode. Evilly’s answer was that the original intention of this vehicle (LT) was to heal allies in superplatoons. So yes, it sucks – and apparently it also drifts a lot. Anyway, what will happen with your crews in that mode after the event is over: – crews from special tanks will be moved to barracks, if barracks are full, you won’t get any free crew slots, rather the crews will be saved in a “buffer” and moved to barracks whenever free slots become available – crews will be retrained to T110E5, Foch 155 or LTTB (from HT, TD and LT special tanks) – you can retrain your existing crews to the special tanks (US, Soviet and French crews). If you do that, after the event is over, the crews will be retrained for free to T110E5, Foch 155 or LTTB. – special vehicles don’t act as premiums, you can’t use other vehicles’ crews in them – regular XP will be transferred to Cunningham, MS-1 and FT-17 Otherwise, nothing much new.

3.1.2015

Sorry, absolutely nothing new today, posting this here for the sake of continuity. Celebrations in Russia and all that. Oh right, one thing. It’s completely possible to retrain your American crews to Mammoth, Soviet crews to Arctic Fox and French crews to the 8-bit TD… forgot its name. These are the tanks from the upcoming “8-bit” mode and while they come with crews on their own, it’s possible to use your trained crews for them. After the event is over, the 8-bit crews will be automatically retrained for free to: T110E5 (American), Foch 155 (French) and LTTB (Soviet).

Here’s a VERY interesting article about American military… thanks to FaustianQ for this one. Sort of depressing. Also, having technical issues in 9.5? Here’s a WG guide of what you might check. Why this isn’t on the first page of the EU portal, I have no idea. – in 9.5, the gun marks (rings) were not touched – the current Russian peak (last weekend, compared to January’s 1,1 mil) is apparently 850k – skill MM (“leagues”) was discussed and analyzed “more than once”, the conclusion was that it would not bring the incentive to play better – Q: “Implement skill MM and see its results in praxis!” A: “Deal player, you can create your own online game and run experiments on live servers as much as you like!” – claims that skill MM would improve gameplay “are not based on reality” – the rumor that Havok was scrapped is false

New Winter Mode

Hello everyone, on 5.1.2015, the new Winter Mode is starting (on RU server anyway, but I am pretty sure it’ll be unified). Here’s a video for the event (with English subtitles). It will last until 15.1.2015.     In short: – 10 vs 10 mode – either “random” or “superplatoons” (5 man platoons) – duration of battle is 7 minutes – goal: to kill all enemy tanks or to capture the base (there’s only one like in the Encounter mode) – three tanks: T110 aka Mammoth is a “tank”, then there’s Foch that’s a sniper and T-50-2 is a “scout” – special type of shells – one normal AP and one that actually heals your allies, those are premium shells (for credits or gold) – there will be a special medal Russians also have a bunch of nice missions for this mode: – take part in 25 battles (while dealing at least 500 damage, only 5 times per account), get 25k XP, 25k crew XP, 250k creds – deal at least 3300 damage in a TD (repeatable), get 1500 XP, 1500 crew XP, 10k credits – deal at least 2500 damage in a HT (repeatable), get 1500 XP, 1500 crew XP, 10k credits – deal at least 1700 damage in a LT (repeatable), get 1500 XP, 1500 crew XP, 10k credits – deal at least 15k damage (while playing in a platoon, the damage of the entire platoon adds up), get 2500 XP, 2500 crew XP, 20k credits Just like with the Chaffee races mode, the XP gained will be transferred automatically after the event is over: – from HT to T1 Cunningham – from LT to MS-1 – from TD to Renault FT

9.5 Christmas Mode Preview

Hello everyone, a preview with some pictures of the Christmas mode.     Inside: – the mode is called “New Year Mode” in Russian – it’s similiar to the earlier “8-bit” mode with Karl – there will be three tanks (one is “Mammoth” – boxy T110E5, second is “Raider” – in English it’s called “Arctic Fox” for some reason and it’s based on T-50-2, third is “Berserker” – in English “Polar Bear” and it’s based on Foch 155) – the tanks are roughly similiar in sizes and guns, but the Mammoth has huge amount of hitpoints (5000) – Arctic Fox (T-50-2) has few hitpoints, but 20 tons with 1200hp engine and 70 km/h maximum speed with 65 deg/s hull traverse – platoons will be possible – amount of players per team is not published yet – you’ll get a medal for participating – the gameplay will resemble the Karl mode, with one exception – healing shells: if you shoot your allies with them, you’ll heal their hitpoints

Hungarian Branch in WoT – Part 4: Tas medium tank

Author: Karika Part I Part II: Light tanks Part III: Turán medium tanks In this part, we’ll take a look at how could the Hungarian Tas medium tank be implemented into WoT. Everything is the same as in the previous articles: I will try not to predict game parameters (health points or alpha damage) and the balance parameters (radiorange, RoF, etc.) would not necessarely be implemented as I listed them below. Please note that these are only the historical characteristics, the would be implemented tanks could get unhistorical stuff as a last resort, if the game balance requires it. Unfortunately, Hungary did not produce a tank, which would perfectly fit in the in-game tier 6 slot. Therefore, to avoid implementing non-domestical or unhistorically overbuffed tanks into the Hungarian tech tree, I separated the Tas medium tank into two. In my opinion, this is the least bad solution. Let me show you my idea:

Big Storm Q&A

Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/299850.html Just like the good old days – Storm created a thread where he answers player’s questions about World of Tanks. Here’s what he wrote. – Storm confirms the WT E-100 reload time nerf from 52 secs to 58 secs (for the 128mm) – developers will think about removing Prokhorovka completely and reworking it, leaving the Fire Salient for now (SS: noticed how the map got renamed from Fiery Arc in test 1? Someone used google translator with that “arc”) – roaming was delayed because it has low priority, it was moved to the back of the development queue – roaming was delayed because “everything changes, current situation does not require roaming” – roughly 70 people are working on WoT currently (Storm adds that they would hire more specialists, but they aren’t any available in their country and it’s not possible to hire westerners, when all the documentation is in Russian) – WG on hiring mod makers: “there are few smart ones and those don’t want to be hired” – M46 Patton will get improved torsion bars equipment in 9.3 (SS: this is the third time in last days I see this question for some reason) – the bug where you can’t see your friends as online in the friend list will be fixed, “when it’s done it’s done”

9.2 – Undocumented Vehicle Changes

Hello everyone, as usual, there are some undocumented things in the 9.2 test client. First, some tanks got their textures simply changed, at least that’s how it can be seen in WoT viewer, in order to make them look better on worse computers. Generally, it looks like this (the dark one is the old one)
