88mm Hungarian Tas? Nope…

Author: Károly “Karika” Németh

Hello everyone,

some of you might remember the Tas – the ultimate Hungarian wartime project of a medium/heavy tank, inspired by the Panther. I wrote about the Tas here, in case you are interested. Either way, sometimes, some “information” appears that Tas was supposed to be equipped with German 88mm gun, like the Tiger. This is not true and Károly “Karika” Németh will explain it in detail.

Regarding the picture above, that was claimed to be the 88mm Tas – that’s not the model of the Tas with 88mm gun, there’s NO chance that the Tas could have been mounted with an 88mm, historically.

At first I have to make some things clear: the original plans, blueprints and documantations for the Tas medium tank are mostly missing (lost during the occupation of Hungary by the Germans, and then the Soviets), and the historians have to work with the limited written sources and many (less reliable) personal memoirs/flashbacks. Therefore, a lot of misunderstandings and delusions circulating around on the internet, and even in published books.

3.2.2014

- there are no two arty lines for some nations (SS: Americans could get one) because “we don’t want it for now”
- apparently, TG (Tank Grotte) won’t be implemented anytime soon
- server doesn’t store data about previous manipulation with camo, camouflages, that were bought earlier for gold and “rewritten” will not be awarded retroactively in 8.11 (SS: as in, if you bought gold camo before 8.11 and “deleted” it by buying another camo of the same type for example, you won’t get it back)
- as confirmed before, the T23 premium tank will not have identical forward and reverse speeds (Q: “Why not?” A: “Common sense”)

On introducing new premium tanks

Hello everyone,

you might have noticed the new poll on the main FTR page, regarding the premium vehicles (if you haven’t voted yet, cast your vote, please). This poll is there for a reason actually. Last night I had an interesting chat, was also reading some articles, looking through some books and realized, how tough it is actually to come up with a decent premium tank. There are some pretty strict categories and conditions to follow, when you make such a proposal. This can be very clearly seen on the case of the American premium tank destroyer.

Not that Wargaming drops historical requirements the lower you go by tiers, but first and foremost, I think it’s obvious that tier 8 premium tanks are the most “watched” tanks in World of Tanks. For example, recently (on 8.11 test), the shape of Type 59 armor was changed. It was changed in a completly insignificant way (the angle changed by half a degree or so, resulting in a few milimeters of shift), but there have already been voices saying “Oh, you changed Type 59, will there be a compensation?”

Leaked Russian TD’s? A fake.

Hello everyone,

not everything that appears as a leak is one. Today, I posted the following picture:

sovsup

It’s supposed to be a “supertest tree”, including three new premium TD’s. I am sad (happy?) to report that it is a fake. The reason I fell for it is quite simple: last year (in May), both the GAZ-75 and IT-45 descriptions were leaked and icons existed too (as far as I know, even models do). I thought Wargaming simply decided to implement them with delay, but it is not so (yea, I had it confirmed by a real supertester).

By the way, those of you, who said it was a photoshop – nope, it wasn’t. It is actually possible to edit local client XML files to create your own “version” of the tree, that’s probably how they did it. Another leaked thing later today were “statistics” of these vehicles. These are also fake.

I am sorry for the confusion.

2.2.2014

Hello everyone,

check out new info about WoT: Blitz on Overlord’s blog! You can also check out Listy’s article about Toyota Wars.

- apparently, T23 premium tank will not be sold…
- T23 will not have the same speed going backward as going forward, the reverse will be around 30 km/h
- the T-54 in game is apparently not supposed to look like the regular T-54, because “it’s a prototype”
- T-54 will have two alternative hulls
- Panzer III’s will have alternative hulls, including the ones with additional armor, like here (SS: I don’t mean the Schurzen, but the extra plate bolted to the front of the tank)

By the way, regarding that Russian TD leak, I asked a bit around and I wouldn’t expect these anytime soon. Maybe not even in 2014 – just saying.

Storm asks about 8.11 FOV

Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/274359.html

Hello everyone,

Storm recently made a post about the 8.11 FOV, asking players, how do they like it on test 2. I took two screenies to compare (although on my resolution – 1440 * 990 – it is not that much noticeable, you can see the FOV got a bit limited).

Live server:

shot_033

Test server:

shot_001

As far as I can tell, the camera was moved a bit to the front and the field of view is narrower. From the discussion:

- new 8.11 FOV is 90 degrees
- the old 8.11 FOV was actually different for each resolution
- during this week it will be decided whether 9.0 will bring TD camo nerf (SS: or rather, loss of camo bonus when shooting a gun) or not
- Storm states it’s normal for you to wait in a queue despite the queue being full of vehicles of your tier, according to MM rules you are supposed to end up in some cases on the bottom of the team, so for example if you wait in a tier 8 tank for a long time despite the queue being full of other tier 8′s, it’s because you are waiting for tier 9 and 10′s too
- apparently, the feedback towards the new T-54 and the new FOV was overwhelmingly negative on RU server
- +/-1 MM will definitely not come, “the game would become not interesting”

WoT: ESL Finals Scandal

Hello everyone,

now, those of you, who read FTR for a while know I generally try to stay out of ESL and CW stuff. I don’t follow ESL, I don’t play Clanwars (hmmm – maybe I should, that invitation by KAZNA still valid? :D) and even though there is a lot of fail in Clanwars (last campaign there was a lot of issues), I try not to report things I don’t understand.

This nasty thing with the ESL finals was sent to me several times, but until now, I didn’t see any “whole” account, just some tidbits of information (mostly from Czech ESL players, who have insight) and I didn’t dare write anything about it without some sort of “official” post – or at least some proper summary by someone involved. That summary is now available. DeNova player Artur “Ronnie” Ulyanicki issued a statement on DeNova pages. Here is the original statement in voice.

Unfortunately, it’s in Russian, so I will just translate what is in there. Please keep in mind that I do not know much about ESL and might mistranslate technical (or commonly used) terms. Please note that this issue is not just “some guys playing games got mad” – ESL finals are about money – and not a little.
