8.9.2013

First, three pieces of info from a guy who personally visits a WG event just today (source)

- KV-1S will not be nerfed, it will be split into KV-85 and KV-122 (SS: with KV-122 being probably tier 7, but this is not confirmed)
- in 8.9, some tier 4-7 arties (that were overnerfed before) will be buffed
- top tier arties will not be buffed, their stats are fine
- second CW campaign will start at the end of October, it will use tier 4-6-8-10 tanks (based on current company rules)

Extra History video – now that’s something I like

Hello everyone,

here’s something not concerning tanks or WoT directly, but it could be. You see, there’s a (quite popular) channel on Youtube about game designing, called “Extra Credits“. It’s a weekly show about videogames and videogame industry. It usually doesn’t deal with specific games, but with various game aspects and effects. I really like its cute animation style and the fact that it looks at various aspects of gaming and game design from a different perspective, than many other blogs. If you are interested in games beyond the generic “they red me shoot”, I can strongly recommend this show.

But that’s not why I write this.

The most recent part deals not with games per se, but history. The story goes that the developers of Total War: Rome II gave the makers of this channel a call and asked them to introduce the historical aspect the game in a funny, witty and entertaining way. The first part is about the Punic wars and… well, here it is:

So, what I am thinking: it would be really cool to actually have something like this for WoT. There are TONS of myths, garbage, interesting stories and all the other things still out there. Wouldn’t it be really cool for Wargaming, he they actually paid these guys to issue such a video on tanks and the history too? I’d certainly enjoy it more than the (let’s face it, a bit boring) “historical” videos, narrated by guy/bot, who insists pronouncing “Jagdpanzer” with “J” (as in “Jerry”)…..

Whatcha think?

WT E-100 – what penetration will that 150mm L/38 have?

Hello everyone,

since the disclosure of the second German tank destroyer line, a lot of people have been showing concern about how the high-tier 150mm guns (L/29,5 and L/38) will perform. Specifically, a lot of people fear that the guns will have low penetration and the WT will end up with an autoloaded version of E-100′s gun, because the caliber and barrel length is apparently the same and lots of people don’t see beyond that.

This article is here to actually alleviate some of the “fears” of this.

Tx1

Let’s start from the beginning then.

Russian Ministry of Defense mentions WoT

7.9.2013

According to the official press release of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the online game World of Tanks attracts young people to the armor branch of the army and will in the future be one of the steps of new tanker training, said Lieutenant-General Alexander Shevchenko, the head of the armored vehicles department of MoD Russia.

“I think that the players of the game will be unique candidates the more we rely on computer technology. I think it will be one of the stages of preparation of future crews for future vehicles”, Shevchenko told the “Echo Moskvy” radiostation.

……..

SS: So, in order to join the Russian army, you’ll have to have 55 percent and more winrate. No noobs allowed :)

Extending the WOT German tech tree – Sturmpanzers

 Disclaimer:

This is a purely speculative article that takes into account WOT German tech tree and uses historical tanks to speculate possible new tank additions. While trying to keep the articles faithful to history some room for inaccuracy is allowed within these rules:

1) No tank or tank part will be 100% made up, at least a mention about tank role and vague specs are needed

2) Components not planned for the tank are allowed, provided it wouldn’t create grotesque inaccuracies like putting a gun that would obviously cripple a tank under its weight

3) This will be limited to WWII plans, anything post war risks to be too arbitrary to properly balance

No serious expectation of anything listed to appear in WOT as described is applied, but as we’re discussing about implementing history into an arcade game some items will be controversial.

This is unavoidable as WOT tech tree rules need a tank to be better than the previous one and ergonomics are not exactly cared about, meaning that most designs are over-performing their real counterparts.

With the approaching Waffentrager tree, today we will see my personal take on the possible sturmpanzer tree.
SilentStalker recently had his own take on it, but I disagree on some choices and also prefer a shorter, more intense grind.

Issues with the EU Weekend Special

Hello everyone,

there are two minor issues with the weekend special.

First, the crew re-train discount apparently only applies on gold re-train, not the silver one. Yea, I know, weird. When this “bug” was discovered, they backedited the portal news to reflect that to make it official. *shrugs*

Second minor issue is with the Lucky 7, chances are you will get 7 kills + 7 wins way before the 7 survived condition. When you survive the 7th battle, you won’t get the 70k reward, you will get it (for some strange reason) the battle AFTER that one, whether you win or lose, survive or not. So just play one extra battle.

WG supporting AFK?

Hello everyone,

just a short thought: most of you have probably seen this weekend’s EU event. It’s a nice event overall, but it carries one small problem:

Mission 2: Lucky 7’s

Objective:

- Win 7 Battles
- Survive 7 Battles

- Destroy 7 Tanks

I am sure you see where this is going. When there is a mission with the specific objective to SURVIVE, it encourages two things: campers and AFK’rs.

Today, I was playing my medium tank as usual and noticed an unusual number of AFK’rs. Maybe it was my bad luck, but it seemed like there are more than usual. At one point, me and my 3 teammates found ourselves at Redshire, with an enemy KV-1S capping our base. I wrote “Let’s kill him, he can’t get all of us” and went in first. Needless to say, he oneshotted me (my health was down), but NOONE else moved. Obviously, if they moved, they could have gotten him before he reloaded. Now, you might think it was just a bunch of random retards, but when asked why didn’t they move, one of them answered “Gotta survive for the mission”.

I believe this behavior is something that should be either discouraged or punished outright, but definitely not supported by a mission. Therefore I think there no longer should be any “survival” objective missions. Campers, AFKers and cowards shouldn’t be encouraged and they sure as hell shouldn’t be given further incentives to continue or justify their behavior.

KV-1S with an autoloader

Source: http://yuripasholok.livejournal.com/2194521.html
Author: Yuri Pasholok

In December 1942. Red Army GABTU inventions department recieved a proposal, designated “Shell loading mechanism for the F-34 gun for KV”. Another reworked variant of this idea was proposed in July 1944 – it was different only by the fact that the documentation was mor detailed. It’s worth noting that the KV-1S autoloader was not proposed by some random guy, but by an engineer-captain (by 1944 engineer-major already) called G.V.Barabash (this is somewhat funny in Russian, as the Russian term for ingame autoloaders is “baraban” – in this case, it’s nomen omen). He worked in Leningrad and proposed this in 1944 via the J.V.Stalin military academy.

The idea itself came late and the inventions department denied it, but Barabash had it pantented a year after the war.
