The Insider Talks: What’s Going On in WG

For the record, this is a different insider than leaked the fake missions for December. So yes, this is legit, I confirmed some parts from several sources.

Here are a few interesting tidbits from the Insider :)

- apparently, Wargaming wants to put the forum reputation into use. To that end, they are considering a list of titles and ranks (like the current “player” under the avatar), from “private” all the way to “general” or something like that. The lowest rank, reserved for players with bad reputation is “donkey” for some reason :) But there are other “titles” as well. Apparently, farming shameful titles will also eventually lead to a ban (SS: logical, as negrep farming often requires breaking forum rules).
- apparently, WoT Generals will get an update soon (SS: but they talked about that months ago already, so who knows)

Marathon Tank is the WZ-111

Hello everyone,

contrary to the (fake) earlier leaks, there will not be a tier 6 T-34-85M marathon (T-34-85M will apparently be sold, at least on RU server). Instead, the “marathon” tank will be the WZ-111.

The conditions of the marathon are: for every nation, in tier 6+ tank, cause 150k damage and kill 150 enemy vehicles. No XP, top 10 or anything like that required. So, in total, you have to destroy 1050 enemies and cause over a million damage points. With my average 1,13 kills per battle… that’s a lot of battles :)

The time limit is from 15.12. to 19.1.

A little background – tier 8 WZ-111 was the first Chinese tank to be introduced to World of Tanks. That was a very, very long time ago, like two and a half years back or so. It was until now a Chinese server-exclusive vehicle. You can read about its real life history a bit here. For a week or so, it was speculated on RU server that this would be the Russian marathon tank (as Evilly stated it would be something that only appeared on Chinese server for now and WZ-111 was the only vehicle fitting that description without other issues).

Oh well, I would have perhaps preferred something… lowtier, but easier to obtain. Like that T-34-85M – but good luck :)

Regarding the 9.5 CT2 Launcher Crash

Hello everyone,

several players experienced a crash of the 9.5 CT2 launcher. After updating the cca 170 megs of CT2 client, a white screen appears and says roughly something along the lines of “page cannot be displayed” – while hanging up the launcher, so you have to turn it off using task manager.

There are two “fixes” for this:

- first, you can just NOT run the launcher and start worldoftanks.exe straight away (it’s in your WoT directory)
- second, more proper way, as described by Medjed (thank you):

Shut down WoT launcher via Task manager. Go to your WoT folder and delete wg_cleaner_client_patch.dll. Start launcher again it will download 10 MB and then you’ll have the play button.

11.12.2014

Hello everyone,

the news about potentially infected WoT replays already reached the US server. News EU server – of course not, because WG EU, that’s why. So, until 9.5 (which will be released cca 22.12-23.12, at least that’s the plan – in it this vulnerability will be fixed), you have still a chance to make a replay that will open 1000 Pornhub browser windows… not that I am giving anyone any ideas! :)

No, seriously, be careful. This could lead to some really nasty stuff – a very primitive example of it being a replay, opening a browser window with a phishing page, that will say your client is out of date and will ask for your password to “verify installation” – but a real attack would be more sophisticated.

What you CAN do is download/use replays from wotreplays.ru/eu/com – the site now checks for rigged replays and does not allow you to upload them (yes, I tried). According to a developer from wotreplays.ru, they already checked like 900k replays and the rest will be checked shortly. Replays from last 2 months at least are safe.

- Storm basically confirmed that the supertesters are really testing accuracy nerf, but it’s too soon to draw any conclusions, those are just tests with various parameters
- the platoon element in individual missions will stay
- the manual activation of individual missions will stay
- some individual missions or elements thereof (compared to CT1) will be removed
- only a single IM will be “active” at any one time (SS: as in, you can’t do two IM’s at once)
- IS-7 will not be replaced by anything as Soviet top tier heavy (“for political reasons”) (SS: here, the “political” is likely a metaphor, as in “it’s too popular to be replaced” – the main “issue” with it is that it’s unhistorically nerfed)

Fixing the T-15 in HD

Hello everyone,

continuing with the series of the “fixing” articles (because yes, some vehicles do need some serious fixing), we’ll have a look at the T-15 premium tier 3 light tank. Now, it’s a premium tank so we can’t really consider any serious nerfs, but okay.

skoda_t-15_b_156

The T-15 was a light scout tank developed by Škoda. Several prototypes were made and it was tested along with Panzer 38t nA and the Luchs in comparative trials at Kummersdorf, where it failed due to its poor reliability. The design was new and had many teething problems. The vehicle to come out the best from the trials was actually the nA, but politics intervened and in the end, the Luchs was produced instead. T-15 prototypes were returned to Škoda, where they remained until the end of the war. After the war, one was heavily modified to produce the T-15A/T-15S/T-16, but that’s a story for another time.

Movie T-34/85 for Sale in Sweden

Thanks to Tankstar for this one.

Hello everyone,

apparently, the T-34/85, used for the Estonian movie “1944″ is for sale, according to this site. It looks to be in a pretty good shape too. Too bad it’s not entirely historical – according to the page, it has a T-54/55 engine. Well, okay, why not, if it’s running.

The movie “1944″ is actually a new Estonian movie. According to its official description:

This motion picture deals with the events of 1944 in Estonia, from the Battle of Tannenberg Line in July until the Sõrve Peninsula fell into the hands of the Red Army in November. The film focuses on the individual within the context of war, rather than war itself, and shows the war from both perspectives – those of the Red Army and the German Army.

Could be interesting.

Straight Outta Supertest: Accuracy Nerf

Hello everyone,

the supertesters on Russian server started testing an accuracy nerf. As far as I can tell, the nerf is valid for all the vehicles (possibly excluding artillery but including premiums) and does not concern the accuracy value itself, but a distribution within the circle (as in, shells flying to the center of the circle less often). Unfortunately, no details are known at this point (or relevant, developers are testing several variants), but the supertester thinks it’s planned either for 9.6 or 9.7.

Also, all the 9.5 vehicles are apparently balanced for CT2. 9.5 release is scheduled apparently on 22.-23.12.2014, if nothing goes wrong.
