Premium EU tank destroyers – part II

Part 1: http://ftr.wot-news.com/2013/09/23/possible-premium-eu-tank-destroyers-part-i/

In part one, we had a look at the ST-1, which was basically the original Hetzer (rebuilt or newly built with the StuK 40) and the plan to rearm it with the 76,2mm A19 gun. Now, we are going to have a look at what the Czechoslovaks did with the StuG III.

The history of StuG III in Czechoslovak service is not that long – or successful for the matter. As we learned earlier (for details, check the tank destroyers article), post-war Czechoslovakia used captured German equipment en masse, before the Soviet one became available in large numbers.

- the option to buy an additional crewmember with 4 skills when you have the rest of the crew with 4 skills and need one more for the next vehicle won’t be implemented
- Q: “Where can the players whine about buffs/nerfs of tanks?” A: “Nowhere. It’s possible to actually whine about some specific parameters we try to make as historical as possible, for example ‘the speed is not correct’ or ‘I found the correct armor scheme, that is different from the one in game’. Generally however it’s absolutely pointless to whine about tank balance”

Premium EU tank destroyers – Part I

Hello everyone,

today, we will have a look at several possible vehicles, that could theoretically appear in the upcoming European tech tree as premium (or even regular) tank destroyers. These vehicles come from the book “Od bodáku po tryskáče” by M.Dubánek (probably the best material there is on post-war Czechoslovak projects), specifically, page 208:

“The attempts to install Czechoslovak-developed anti-tank weapons (on various platforms) can be considered the swan song of Czechoslovak industry – this was proposed during the meeting between Škoda and ČKD representatives on 13. and 14.12.1950. The proposal was to mount the 100mm A20 gun into the self-propelled gun platform, based on T-34/85 (SS: SU-100), while the ST-1 and StuG III self propelled guns should carry the 76,2mm A19 anti-tank gun.

The ČZTS national company was to make a study of this until March 1951 and the respective chassis samples were to be moved to Dubnica nad Váhom. However, these preparations were cancelled in connection with the cancellation of the A19 gun development and the changes made to the A20 gun.

Furthermore, proposals were made on a meeting on 8.6.1951 to arm the StuG III and ST-1 with the 85mm vz.44 Soviet gun, but these were also rejected”

As you can see, that gives us actually 5 vehicles to work with :) Although only proposals, I think it could be really interesting to see these vehicles in game, so let’s have a look at them.

Yes, that’s a Jagdpanzer 38t, incorrectly also known as the “Hetzer”. It was manufactured in former Czechoslovakia during the war and after the war the production continued.

Type 4 Chi-To (upcoming tier 6 medium tank)

Development history

Japan expected that a new generation of tanks capable of tank engagements would be needed later in the war. In 1942, three medium tank classes were initiated. A 47mm cannon class, a 57mm cannon class, and a 75mm cannon class. These three classes were called Kou, Otsu, Hei respectively (something like A, B, C). It was soon considered that the 47mm cannon class medium would be obsolete before completion thus it was upgraded to a 57mm cannon class tank. The other 57mm cannon class medium merged with the 75mm cannon class tank. Thus these two, the 57mm cannon class tank and the 75mm cannon class tank, were respectively the Chi-To and the Chi-Ri tanks.

Regarding the “free tank for weekend missions” rumor

Hello everyone,

just a quick heads up: there is a rumor going around (possibly started by some blog about WoT I got sent a link to) that you will get a free premium tank (specifically an IS-6, but other versions of this rumor also exist), if you complete all of the “kill 20 enemies with tank XY” weekend missions over several weekends.

It has been confirmed by Wargaming (I asked) that this rumor is FALSE, definitely for US and EU server. There is no summary tank reward planned. Sorry guys, this one’s a bust.

22.9.2013

- there will be no option to enable the old statistics window in settings
- new crew skills aren’t coming anytime soon
- devs considered increasing the amount of slots for equipment, but decided not to do it, because “the choice of what to put on a tank is also a part of the gameplay, the more you can mount on your tank, the lesser the role this part of gameplay has”
- Storm states that big game releases (such as BF3, Warcraft datadisk, GTA5) have almost no impact on WoT playerbase, there have been temporary short drops by several percent

Veider Q&A

Source: US forums thread (via Reddit)

I normally don’t steal forum posts, but this is something I wanted to do yesterday already. Kept it for today, because I didn’t have that much time, but it looks like someone did beat me to it. Enjoy!

There was a RU-stream today with veider (~1hr30mins) where questions regarding balance and future changes were answered. This is a transcript/translation from the Russian language. Expect lots of grammar mistakes. I’ll try to make it as short as possible. Doesn’t include troll questions and answers.

NERFS AND BUFFS

1. T57 Heavy and Foch155 will NOT be nerfed in the next patch (0.8.9) but they will be nerfed in patch 0.9.0.
2. KV-1S will not be nerfed in the nearest future, but devs are considering splitting it into two separate tanks (OP, probably KV-85 and KV-122).
2. A lot of tanks will be buffed in the next patch, but all of them are mid-tier. Don’t expect any T9-10 buffs.
2. Medium tier arty will get a slight buff.
3. VK 4502B may get a buff, but don’t expect that to happen anytime soon.
4. Tanks that will NOT get a buff: AMX 50B, AMX 13 75, T95, T43, Jagdtiger, JgTig 8.8 (regarding Tiger II chasis buff/nerf), KV-5, Maus.
5. Regarding IS-3 remodel, its armor won’t be worse.  In fact it will probably be a bit better because of the angles. Also, the tank will be higher. The previous screenshot that you all saw is a work in progress.
