A tip came from one player, who didn’t write his nickname unfortunately. Are you using Xfire client? Apparently, since 9.0, it started causing FPS drops for the game, which it didn’t before. You might want to consider disabling it when you play. Another Russian player reports significant FPS increase with “flash interface disable” – no idea what that is.

- the bug where the game tells you “not enough memory” – Storm: “Reduce the texture quality”
- icons on minimap move with delay? Storm: “Earlier it was the same, only with sharp twitches”
- Steppes have higher FPS than other maps – Storm states: “There’s nothing there, the map is bare – one landscape and only a few objects. Of course it will work faster than other maps.”
- it’s possible there will be one more hotfix micropatch

World of Tanks Raptr QA

Source: Raptr site

Hello everyone,

I was wondering whether to include this post or not… but what the hell. Raptr is some sort of gaming community I never heard about before, but several players wrote me a mail, that it is organizing a large QA session with “developers”. That kinda raised my suspicions and surely enough, they were confirmed. Developers? Nope, more like community people. Basically, players ask questions in comments (in the abovelinked thread) and following people answer:

Joshua Morris (some “producer” I never heard of before)
Chris Jung (“specialist”, god knows what that means)
Jamie King (some random guy I never heard before either, aka “PR” specialist)
joined with couple other “my-mum-says-I’m-specialists”

As I said, I have no idea who these people are, my best guess it’s some staff from the American branch of Wargaming. Anyway, went through the answers, here’s what was in there. The answers bring rarely anything new of course, but… well, yea, check for yourself

- regarding the 9.0 fucked up patch: “We just released our first micro patch that solves some of the issues but we still know of several issues causing players problems. We are testing more solutions and will release another patch as soon as it is ready. 9.0 was a major change to many systems. In order to support the major changes coming this year we had to overhaul many systems. This has obviously caused some problems for some users and we are working as quickly as possible to solve these issues.”
- true multicore support, later this year
- bigger maps? “It has been a long time desire to increase the maps sizes and support larger battles. Technically, doubling the maps sizes and increasing teams would quadruple the server processing requirements. We will continue to pursue this goal, however it is not slated for the 2014 timeframe.”
- modern tanks? “Our titles focus on vehicles of 1930–1950 with no plans to introduce modern warfare.” (SS: oh, wasn’t STB-1 from late 60′s? Leopard? Ooooops)
- no plans to have ships, warplanes and tanks on one battlefield in one game
- no plans to bring WoT to Steam due to this being “cost-prohibitive”

….and that’s all (out of cca 1300 questions, mind you – stronk answerink!) Personally, I think that the Raptr interface is the worst and clunkiest interface I have seen lately. If there were more “answers” anywhere, I missed them. Apparently, the session was prolonged until Monday or something, so I will revisit that page and check if there is anything new.

Having trouble with graphic settings? Check out Wargaming English guide to graphics (it’s a damn shame this post is so hidden most people would never find it).

For everyone, who missed the whole hotfix mumbo jumbo, I am once again repeating:

- the hotfix enabled the bugged multicore support again. If you have FPS issues after the hotfix, try disabling the core spread option by downloading this file and copying it over the original in World of Tanks folder.
- if you have microlag and FPS issues, be sure to disable triple buffering and Vsync – here’s how. But beware – ANY setting tampering after that will turn it back on, so you have to disable it once again.

And now to QA:

- the amount of artillery on tier 8-10 is stabilized and quite satisfactory
- revamp of light tanks is planned
- autoaim gun direction is calculated on the server
- visibility check points on the tank are defined as such: one is in the front, two on the sides, one on the back, one is the point where the gun is attached to the turret and one is the highest point of the turret
- automatic download of the entire client (which some players experienced with the 9.0.1 hotfix) is caused by the game determining that the client is compromised (SS: this can be triggered by mods, but also by removing some parts of the client)

Got any thoughts about 1.3 World of Warplanes update? Share them with Overlord

- Q: “Why do I, whenever I switch the gun, have the gold ammo switched from purchase for credits to purchase for gold? WG wants to cheat people?” A (Storm): “Definitely, that’s why it was specifically implemented. When I go to sleep, I think about how to silently steal gold from people. And I am giggling nastily.”
- FV4202 replaced by another vehicle? “No comment until new vehicles are officially announced”
- in the future, many more HD tanks per patch will come, right now, developers are working on the mass production mechanism
- there will be no option to switch from new autoaim to the old one

Storm posts about increasing your Performance by Disabling the Triple Buffer

Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/289358.html

Hello everyone,

9.0 issue post spam continues – this time, Storm posts about triple buffering. He states that the theory about positive effects (less microlags and more FPS on average and weak computers) of disabling the triple buffering in WoT was confirmed, but this ONLY works if Vsync is disabled as well.

In order to do that, you have to edit the file “preferences.xml” (usually in this folder: c:\Users\___username___\AppData\Roaming\wargaming.net\WorldOfTanks\) by setting its value to “false” like this:

XFWVarf

Once again, in order for this to work, Storm emphasizes that Vsync (vertical synchronization) needs to be turned off. With it turned on, it’s better to leave it as it is. He adds that 9.0 has a TON of issues.

From the discussion:

- this setting was supposed to be turned off by default, but someone at WG screwed it up
- this will NOT be fixed by the Friday hotfix (SS: this bug was discovered today, while the micropatch is ready for download since yesterday or so), it’s possible however that this will be changed by another micropatch

Storm – one more Post about the Hotfix

Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/289179.html

Hello everyone,

Storm officially posted the same info that we got yesterday about the hotfix. He stated that the hotfix patch will most likely come out tomorrow (actually, I know for a fact that the patch is already prepared for the patching process, so it is very likely indeed). Storm also adds that now, they are actively working on game performance.

From the discussion:

- Storm states that regarding the issue with the tanks looking on minimal details like utter shit (worse than they looked before 9.0), there will be fixes in upcoming patches, but there will be no hotfix for the way tanks look
- 9.0.1 hotfix will not solve performance issues (apart from the FPS drops)
- special maps ONLY for HB will not be implemented
- HB mode will be rebalanced – developers already got the statistics and there will be changes in HB MM weight of tanks soon
- for not, the option to use crews from other tanks in historical battles will be available only for mass-used tanks (SS: a crew from Leopard 1 to Panzer IV yes, from IS-3 to IS no)
- developers are studying the issue with long waiting times for lowtier tanks in historical battles

Storm talks about 9.0.1 Hotfix

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/3225750.html

Hello everyone,

Storm confirmed that the hotfix will come on Friday for both the EU and the RU servers. He wrote:

fix

“I will be brief. We fixed the crashes. We also significantly reduced the lags caused by destroyed tanks and explosions. We removed the bug that caused the client to hangup during transfer between servers. That’s the most important thing. We are fixing the game performance”

Further info from the discussion:

- Q: “Is it true that 9.1 will bring no new HD models?” A: “9.0 was difficult” (SS: as in, yes)
- platoons for historical battles will come later

Oh noes, evil EU supertesters strike again! Today, Japanese lowtier premium/reward light tank Type 97 Te-Ke was added to supertest. More details (picture, characteristics) are currently not known.

- the bug, where in player statistics, damage blocked by your armor is divided by ALL battles and not just those from which it is collected will be fixed
- the same statistic for scouting however works correctly
- the reduction of 30 second battle timer to 10 is not planned
- one “spotting point” of the vehicle is the commander’s copula (top of the turret), while the other is at the point where the gun is attached to the turret. That means that a rear-turret tank, poking around the corner will not see anything around the corner, until its turret pokes out as well. This applies for all tanks in the game.
- all tanks will sooner or later be reworked to HD
- using common parts does remodelling to HD easier, for example Panther hull/suspension on Jagdpanther, Panther II etc., but it doesn’t mean that these “close” tanks will be remodelled together sooner

Storm talks about Critical Performance Drops

Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/289014.html

Hello everyone,

Storm made another post about the issues, that came with 9.0. Currently, he is dealing with FPS drops and states that WG does not enough data on this issue. He states that the developers checked dozens of various configurations, reported as problematic, but couldn’t find any critical FPS drops, mentioned in reports coming from the players.

If you have critical performance drop issue, that means for example that the FPS dropped to like 10 and reducing settings doesn’t help, while before, you had nice 30-40 FPS, Storm asks that you

- make a dxdiag log
- make screenshots of game and graphics settings
- describe the problems (like “in 8.11, I had X FPS on settings Y, in 9.0 my FPS dropped to Z, reducing settings doesn’t help, it’s impossible to play”)
- upload and write this into a FTR comment under this article (or, alternatively, if you speak Russian, post it under the original article, linked above)

Storm also said that WG found a solution for the game crash issue and some of the freezes and there are also good advances in fixing the issue, where you have a noticeable freeze (lag) whenever an enemy tank gets destroyed. Developers are also working on fixing the “enableCPU” thingie (the one that spreads the load on multiple cores) on some configuration.

QA: Ask Me Anything on Reddit

Hello everyone,

what follows is the summary of the “Ask me anything” Reddit session with Ectar, Obirian and Evilly.

- 9.0 FPS loss? Inconclusive, differs from case to case, hotfix is planned:

Any issues that players are experiencing with 9.0 we’d ask that they please contact our support team who can look into their specific circumstances. We have a few things being worked on atm and plan to release a micro patch which should resolve some issues. It’s important to people report their issue to our support team so we can accurately measure who is affected and filter out people who have the same issues from the people who have a different issue but just go with the flow and say they have the same problem.

- the hotfix will allegedly come this week
- there are tier 5-8 premium UK tanks planned, tier 8 will possibly come this year
- Havok: 9.2 or 9.3
- Evilly on lowtier tanks in HB: “…we have some ideas about LT role in HB.”
- HB long queues? “We know the problem, working to resolve this issue.”
- Evilly’s favourite tank to replace the FV4202 on tier 10 is Chieftain
- it’s not yet decided whether Neubaufahrzeug and Grosstraktor will become regular premium or reward/promo tanks
- benchmark mode in WoT? “Use tutorial”
