we waited for it for a year and here it finally is. The RU251 tier 8 German light tank. Low armor (30mm max), but very good maximum speed (for now 80 km/h) and a 90mm gun firing AP, HEAT and HESH (yep, HESH instead of HE) rounds. Not bad! The models are not ready yet, they are missing proper textures.
just a quick update on the EU server Clanwars bug where tanks got frozen even during landings. According to this post, the bug was already corrected and WG staff will investigate and unfreeze all the tanks, that got frozen because of it. This process should take until tomorrow morning or so.
This is Part 2 of the Japanese Tank Destroyer Series, dealing with the concepts and prototypes of thinly armored tank destroyers developed by the Japanese. Due to the rather sprawling nature of the development, I’ll go by the specific projects.
1. Experimental Type 5 47 mm SPG Ho-Ru
A tank destroyer based on the Ha-Go chassis. Following the idea of Marder and Jg.Pz. 38 (t), it utilizes an open-back casemate to lower the height while also allowing a more powerful gun to be installed. It was originally planned to use a shortened version of 47 mm Tank Gun Type 1 (Model II), but development delays and stronger enemies led to the installment of a regular 47 mm Tank Gun Type 1 for tests, which were successful.
if this news did not include an interesting video, I wouldn’t bother with it, but it does, so here goes. Wargaming started cooperating with some Russian guy I have never heard about. His name is Dmitryi “Goblin” Puchkov and apparently he’s some sort of known Russian game journalist and loves tanks.
The interesting part is, together with him, they made a video about the evolution of tanks. The first part deals specifically with armor and – what is best – has English subtitles (no idea why the Russian server includes those when this stuff doesn’t get introduced to EU and US portals anyway, but I am grateful for it). Here’s the video, enjoy!
An interesting article about the Ukraine separatists (from 7.7.2014) appeared on a Polish news server. Here, one incident is mentioned, where a separatist T-64 was torn apart by an ammo rack explosion.
It is known that the separatist forces are operating stolen T-64 tanks of the Ukraine army. According to the article, this tank (a part of a separatist armored column) was destroyed by the army, when the separatists tried to leave Krematorsk towards Donetsk and the Ukraine army shot their column (which included BMP-2 and BMD infantry combat vehicles) to pieces. This is how the rest of the column ended:
According to the article, in the recent days, the separatist took terrible beating, with the army defeating them at every turn.
The first part of the Swiss tank destroyer article covered the wartime vehicles, so let’s take a look at some of the post-war vehicles. This article will just focus on tracked vehicles – wheeled vehicles of Switzerland shall have to wait for another day.
In the 1950′s, the MOWAG company was founded by the inimitable Walter Ruf and started designing a variety of wheeled and tracked vehicles for military and civilian use. Early in the 1950′s, they were testing the MOWAG Pirat, which was a fully enclosed rear turretted tank destroyer, fitted with a powerful 90mm MECAR gun.
Hello everyone, just a quick warning to those, who are playing Clanwars. Due to some screwup on WG side (maybe it’s even intentional as a part of some event, but judging from the amount of confused people who just wrote me, I doubt that), tanks are now being locked during landings. So be careful. If anyone finds any explanation of this crap, please post it in comments.
