WG weekend event fail

Hello everyone,

what – you expected a weekend event without a fail? Oh come on, you :) Remember how Ectar announced on EU forums that EU and US events will be the same? Because, you know, it’s like really, REALLY hard to make a phonecall between US and EU departments and set this thing up right, so that’s something worth celebrating, right?

Well, it turns out it apparently is hard to coordinate: this weekend, it’s NA’s turn to fail:

Weekend event called “Second Battle of El Alamein” for EU:

weekend1

And US:

weekend2

That’s right, no x5 for you, American capitalists! Oh and no equipment discount either.

You know, I get it. There might be a problem in communication, or planning or like a thousand other issues. I have no problem with that. So sometimes the Americans get better events, sometimes the Europeans do. No sweat. But why announce both events would be the same, when it’s clearly a problem?

*sigh*

Interview with Jurij Rogach (model specialist)

Source: render.ru via wot-news

Rohach_Devcon

Hello everyone,

Jurij (Yuri) Rogach is the lead modeller for World of Tanks and recently, people from Render.ru portal managed to make an interview with him. I’ll be summing up the information contained in this interview (just like I did it with Ola before), because translating literally is too slow.

- he comes from a small town in western Belarus, has two children
- he joined Wargaming in July 2009 to start working on World of Tanks as Lead Tech-artist and in 2010 he moved on the position of “3D outsourcing manager” (managing 3rd part modellers, working on tank textures etc)
- the amount of employees of WG is flowing, but it’s roughly 2000 people by now
- WG will be hiring new specialists, but will be moving to another office, as the current offices are too small

Regarding the process of making tank models and maps:

Wargaming to buy a bank on Cyprus

Source: http://www.sigmalive.com/news/oikonomia/73169
Thanks to Bishopcy for this one

Hello everyone,

as we all know, Wargaming.net (or rather, Wargaming Public Company Ltd.) is located on Cyprus. I think we all can guess the reason (no, it’s not the weather). Now, what do you do when you have a lot of money? You put it in a bank? Nah. You buy a bank.

According to the abovelinked article (and if any of you guys understand Greek and is an economist, feel free to correct me if I wrote something wrong), Wargaming made a 50 million EUR bid yesterday to buy a majority share in one of the three biggest banks on Cyprus, the Hellenic Bank. Apparently, Wargaming has one competitor for the share purchase, whose bid was however smaller. The reason for this investment seems to be the fact that the bank is in dire need of recapitalization (35mil EUR), which both offers seem to cover.

This article contains one more interesting fact: while the turnover for Wargaming in 2012 was 217 mil. EUR, for first 6 months of 2013 it is already 234 mil. EUR. The article also mentions the Golden Joystick Wargaming recieved as a sign of the company health and stability.

Storm on 8.9 crashes

Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/255935.html

Storm:

“There are rumors going around that in 8.9 there is a big number of crashes. We already checked 400 complaints on the subject and for now, they all were connected with incorrectly working mods.”

Storm then asks Russian players, whether they experience crashes and whether they are using mods or not. Players that do have problems generally report they are using Joves modpack and XVM, Storm answers that the modpack has a lot of issues and it’s better not to use it, apparently XVM is problematic also. Amway921′s mods are also problematic.

Early Panzers – German WWI tank development

While we usually delve into obscure prototypes or late WWII tanks, it’s worth taking a look into the original panzer development, which is an interesting history of technological catching-up in itself.
When WWI tanks are brought to topic one cannot avoid mentioning the iconic ones, Mark I-IV, Renault FT-17 and the A7V.

Those of course were far from being the only armored beasts that grazed (or better, clawed their way through) the battlefield but the drawing boards were busy with even more projects, as usual going from the pragmatic to the downright unpractical, giving excellent precursors to Hitler’s megalomania.

Still, this was the technological cutting edge of the era, with both sides pioneering into armored warfare operations and experimenting original solutions.
While only one german tank design ever saw the battlefields of WWI, designing and prototypes were going strong behind the lines.

Soviet APC’s on T-26 chassis

Source: Yuri Pasholok’s blog

Hello everyone,

I follow Yuri Pasholok’s blog, as he sometimes posts very interesting scans of documents and photos, that I repost and translate on occasion (with full credits given to him of course). Today, we’ll have a look at another of his posts. This time it’s a report from January 1933:

169719_original

The report object are the armored troop and materiel transports, built on the T-26 chassis: the TR-1 (also called TR-26) and TR-4. The report mentions the TR-1 to be equipped with a 90hp “Hercules” (“Gerkules” in Russian) engine and the fact the project works on it are 100 percent complete, drawings are 95 percent complete and their release to workshops is 90 percent complete. The TR-4 has a different (new) hull compared to TR-1, prototype drawings are 100 percent complete and their release for mass production is 75 percent ready.

Chinese server: Free XP to Crew XP conversion

Source: http://wot.kongzhong.com/zixun/gonggao/20131030/18747.html

Hello everyone,

as the title of the post suggests, the Chinese players are getting the Free XP to Crew XP conversion in patch 0.8.9. It’s pretty self-explanatory (you simply convert the free XP to your crewmember’s XP for gold), I just wonder: the Chinese also got 7/42 battles a patch or two before the RU/US/SEA server, will this be implemented on our regular servers too?

Currently, I have no info on that, but I’ll keep it in mind.

WG multilanguage portal issues

Hello everyone,

just a quick update: yesterday, several people reported they see foreign language in English section on WG EU portal (notably German and Polish). Later, this bug was discovered on both the US server (that had Spanish on main English page) and SEA. A source in Wargaming confirmed that they know about this bug. It’s a bug of the entire portal system (not just WG EU) and they claim to have already fixed it. If you are still having problems, clearing browser cache helps fixing it. If it doesn’t help, the source suggests you contact support with the matter.
