Q: Was the S-54 ever used on the T-34? Could it be mounted in the T-34 model 1942 turret?

A: Yes and yes. The model 1931 76.2 mm AA gun (ZK) from which the S-54 borrows its ballistics was recommended for installation in a tank since 1940, but the performance of the F-34 put those plans on the backburner. When the threat of the Tigers, Panthers, and Ferdinands loomed in 1943, many pre-war improved ballistics projects resurfaced, including the AA gun. As the T-34-85 was already in development, the S-54 was seen as a temporary measure. After trials, it was recommended as an upgrade to all T-34s currently in the field, but shortages of ammunition cut those plans short. In any case, the trials ended on October 19th, and the T-34-85 would be available only a few months later.

The gun was installed in the mass produced T-34 model 1942 turret, with some changes. Due to the longer shell, the position of the loader had to be altered. The tank could also carry less ammunition: 52 shells in the hull, 7 in the turret bay, and 9 on the sides of the turret (5 on one side and 4 on the other).

Hello everyone,

since Friday or so, several (well, many) users from Asian and South American countries reported not being able to access FTR at all, or being able to access it only sporadically. This concerns specifically Philippines, India, Brazil, Indonesia and a few others, from I can tell. I passed the info to Edrard, he told me he didn’t change anything with the server, it’s most likely some routing issue. It’s not terribly widespread though – I have checked and the numbers of FTR visitors have not dropped at all during the weekend.

Therefore, if you have this problem, what I am going to ask you to do is to send a traceroute log (for wot-news.com) to my e-mail (fortherecordwot@gmail.com). You will be able to find how to do it here.

We will try to analyze and fix it somehow, but ultimately, there is not much we can do. If you have this problem, you can fix it temporarily yourself by using European/US/Russian proxy servers.

Hello everyone,

today, we’re going to have a look at one of the lesser known episodes from the tragic Warsaw Uprising.

The Uprising started on 1.8.1944 at 17:00 and caught some of the Panther-equipped German units, stationed in the western part of the city off their guard. Amongst them were the brand new Panther G’s of the 27th Panzer Regiment of the 19th Panzer-Division. This unit was moved to Warsaw from the western front for some reast and to rearm with the new Panther Ausf.G tanks, getting rid of the older Ausf.A’s, that were transferred in turn to the 11th Panzer-Division.

this will most likely concern only US server players, but you never know. Anyway, the transfer window to SEA server is open. For those players from more exotic places, “stuck” playing on EU/RU/US server it’s a chance to move their account somewhere with better ping. The transfer can be initiated thru the abovelinked page via an application and the possibility will last only until 22.10.2013.

Available invite codes are slowly being used up, today we have only one EU invite code (1000g + 3 day prem or so), from “Michael” (sorry mate, leave nick next time)

just a quick heads up: just so you don’t accuse me of being too anti-WG again – remember that fail from yesterday with Americans having 50 percent discount on SU-122-44 and SU-100Y, while EU had only 30 percent? It was fixed. Both servers now have 50 percent.

On 1st of August 1944, Ing-Maj. (military constructor rank) Barabash (we heard about him before) filed an application no. 8988atb for a patent for “a lift for automatic handling of artillery or one-piece shells”. Basically it was nothing else but an autoloader, fitted into a modified T-34 turret.

From the description, it is intended for the 76mm F-22 gun. Yuri Pasholok writes that the author was a bit late with this invention, as it was made for an obsolete gun, but nevertheless he did recieve a patent for it in 1946.

This could be fun in WoT :)
