IS-2 in Czechoslovak Service

Hello everyone,

in today’s short article, we’re going to talk about the heavy IS-2 tank in Czechoslovak service.

is2_131

I think I don’t need to introduce the IS-2 tank, the best Soviet heavy tank of Second World War. It was the evolution of the original IS, equipped with a powerful 122mm D-25 gun. This tank killed the German Big Cats and was as rugged as it got in the war.

US Server – WG Enforcing Campaign 3 Fair Play

Hello everyone,

those few, who follow the events of Clanwars campaign number 3 know that game rigging happens – the UNICA case being only the latest example on the EU server. To prevent such cases happening on the US server, WG NA decided to do something very interesting. They decided to run a log of investigated CW battles.

Too bad it’s missing names, but then the effect is clear. CW campaign battles reported by other players, flagged by an automated anti-rigging system (there is actually such a thing, as RU server periodically reports the names of banned players, who got caught rigging) or through random checks.

And the EU server? Well, you guessed right… no such topic. After all, we wouldn’t want the privacy of riggers and frauds violated, would we?

I actually think it’s a pretty interesting initiative. Let’s see how it goes.

T54E1 Review by Cro_lux

Hello everyone,

okay, here’s the thing. I was talking to Cro_lux, the creator of the video below and he mentioned he would be interested in doing video reviews and various such stuff on FTR. I was like yea, sure, we can try it out – but ultimately it’s the FTR readers who the video is here for, not me.

So here’s the deal. I am going to post here Cro_lux’s video review of the T54E1 and you will vote, whether you want to see more content from him on FTR or not. I will honor the results of the poll. I personally think the video is okay, but as I said, it’s up to you. The poll is below the video.

Project Cobra – Part 1: Background, Automotive and Personnel Carriers

Author: Vollketten

GaWqMP2

So, one day I was looking for something completely different and stumbled blindly into what looked like a US document on the theoretical design of a vehicle suitable for fighting in the arctic of either Northern Canada or Finland etc. to maximise mobility and firepower. The code name for the project was ‘Cobra’ and the experience used in it came from the immediately post-war Canadian mobility experiments from 1945 to 1951. The project led to a wide variety of vehicle designs – a ‘family’ platform and some interesting scope for inclusion into World of Tanks.

Now, there is a lot of material here and rather than butcher it into an incomprehensible mess, I’ll break it into 3 parts. Part 1 here will be the background and the personnel carriers, Part 2 will be the weapons platforms and other projects and part 3 will cover the armament and WoT issues.

Maus Engine by CaptianNemo

Author: CaptianNemo

Some time ago it was announced that Wargaming and Kubinka would be teaming up for an ambitious project to restore the Maus. Regardless of whether they are serious or not, it will be an expensive undertaking as The_Chieftain showed in his Inside the Maus video. Currently, the Maus is basically a hollow box missing even controls and interior supports for the gun. Electrical equipment is missing and likely the electric drive motors are missing but it is hard to say.

But to drive it you need an engine to generate the electrical power to drive the tank. And yes, there are a number of lower hp engines that you could pull off the shelf to produce electricity to drive the tank forward at a very low speed. (There are a number of modern 6 cylinder 300-400 hp engines that would fit.)

You might start sputtering about now about how the Maus had the finely made German engine (they really were well made) with finely made German cams and one piece crank with all of the fine accessories that go with the engine. This is true, it did have all that and more. The suggestion for the 6 cylinder is simply because of reliability and ease of installation, as you will soon find out. On top of this, the engines are actually available. Finding a 70 year old engine is not always possible and finding one and then building it to the unique specs of an engine destined for the Maus will be no easy task. Admittedly, some engines are available and they are usually airplane engines, which are not running, are basically priceless and are generally not suitable for tanks in any case.

9.5 Common Test ETA

Hello everyone,

despite the fact that the complete version of 9.5 was not even supertested yet (several lowtier tanks are not even released on supertest), it seems that according to WG information, 9.5 common test will start on Thursday, 27.11.2014.

Yea. This is going to go so well.

FTR Technical Post and Contributor Review

Hello everyone,

earlier I wanted to write a very long post about this and the future of FTR (my thoughts and stuff), but – I mean… it’s too early I guess and even I am really not sure what I am going to do about it and how to improve everything. One thing is sure though, for better and for worse, after Christmas, FTR will transform to its “final form”, that will stick until the days of FTR are over.

In the meanwhile, still working on content for the AW FTR, that will run on blogspot. Design looks like crap, but that’s not why you come here anyway, right? Anyway, back to the original purpose of this thread – it’s contributor recognition time!

This time, following people donated via Paypal:

Anton T. (Russia)
MaxMcMetal (Germany) – thanks for a VERY generous contribution mate, much appreciated :)
Eric B. (Michigan, USA)

Thank you guys, I really appreciate it, as always.

The best way to help me and FTR is via the Patreon service

This is the Patreon account of For the Record. In case you read this for the first time and feel like contributing, here is an explanation what it is, how it works and how to contribute. You can find a list of all those, who pledged and help to keep FTR running here.

Thank you all!
