Universal Carrier in German service

Hello everyone,

today, we will have a quick look at some of the more interesting German Universal Carrier conversion. The Germans captured a number of these vehicles from three sources. First captured vehicles came from the stocks of the army of Belgium – an unknown number of Universal Carries was “obtained” there, but probably not many. Second source was the British Army – after the evacuation from Dunkerque, the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) left dozens of these vehicles lying around for the Germans to capture. Later, more vehicles were captured in Africa and on Crete – and brought to Europe. Third source was the Soviet Union, that operated lend-lease Universal Carries and some found their way to German hands. Overall, Germany is believed to have operated over a hundred of these vehicles.

- SerB on why WG won Golden Joystick despite the overwhelmingly negative response on RU forums: “It’s simply because the whiners are always more active”
- Slava Makarov (main WoT producer) states he didn’t know in advance WoT would win
- historical battles will have gold ammo (and it won’t be limited apparently)
- teamdamage/teamkill automated system doesn’t track teamdamage done to certain classes (SS: as in, whether for example arty gets more teamdamage)
- it’s possible the tier 5 KV-1S will have also a 122mm gun, but it’s a short gun (S-41, something like the KV-1 U-11)

Tis the season…

Hello everyone,

I don’t usually talk about mods, as I don’t use them. But what Locastan brought to my attention is mighty impressive.

Winter is coming and with it the winter mood. Several modders on RU forums (here is the original thread) have come together to remodel the ingame maps to look like winter maps.

The mod is simply called “Winter Mod” and is not yet available, the guys are still working on it (they are currently looking for a Flash specialist – alas, a Russian speaker). But from what I can see, it’s very well done. Oh yes, and “summer” and “sand” tank visual camos will be reworked too. Overall, it’s a LOT of work, these guys do deserve respect. I will be keeping an eye on the thread and will tell you when it’s done.

Congratulations to the Golden Joystick victory, well, can’t say I expected it, but after thinking about it a bit: World of Tanks is a good game and the WG EU fails, Stalin and other crap I write about has nothing to do with that. So… GG and grats.

- hightier gameplay is doing fine according to SerB
- SerB confirms: KV-85, KV-100 and KV-122 will all be one tank on tier 6, it will be slower than current KV-1S
- WoT for Xbox? “When it’s done it’s done”
- XboX WoT is meant for different audience than PC WoT, the accounts won’t be unified apparently
- Havok will not come in 2013 according to Storm

WoT wins Golden Joystick

Well, literally minutes ago, WoT won Golden Joystick in the Online Game category.

Let’s face it: EU forum raged, Russians raged, US forums weren’t too happy either. Since it’s usually the forum goers that are passionate about a game enough to do the voting, makes me wonder, how on earth did World of Tanks win with all the fire it was gathering on forums.

What really stuck me as odd though was the fact that Wargaming.net was in fact the sponsor of the show. I mean, can you even lose, if you sponsor the competition?

As for the Golden Joystick show itself stream (that goes on here, if anyone is interested), what the hell was that? It looks terribly amateurish and hasted. Considering it’s allegedly the “most important” computer game award, it looked cheap and hasted, there was no talking, no speeches, no winning game footage, nothing.

Well, grats to Wargaming I guess. Can’t say I sincerely believe WG deserved to win, but it’s a good game.
