Zhozef Jakovlevich Kotin

Hello everyone,

currently, Russian server is having a week-long event, honoring the birthday of Z.J.Kotin, one of the most important and influential Soviet era designers. Obviously, since he personally is not as important for EU and US server, we don’t have the same event, but I think it’s worth translating the history part of the Wargaming post for English-speaking users, so they get to know this tank designer as well.

Z.J.Kotin was born on 10.3.1908 in Pavlograd (Dnepropetrovsk district). Since 1923, he worked as a mechanic in the boiler-mechanical plant in Kharkov, while studying during the evenings at Rabfak (“university for workers”). In 1927, he started his studies at the Kharkov Polytechnical Institute.

American Tier 10 Discounts in Future

Source: Reddit

Hello everyone,

a list of upcoming tier 10 discounts was posted on Reddit, the source being the calendar itself, where it is designated for the American server. Future tier 10 discounts will be as follows:

Object 140 (March 31st – April 14th)
WT auf E100 (April 14th – April 28th)
B-C 155 58 (April 28th – May 12th)

I do NOT think that this list is valid for other servers however, each server handles this discount independently. It might match, but it doesn’t have to.

Swedish Tanks – Part II: Strv m/31 & Strv fm/31

Author: sp15 (US server)

Hello everyone,

second part od the Swedish series by sp15, enjoy!

strv_m31-4

As mentioned in the previous part, Sweden started to look for new tanks in 1928. This led to the modernization of Strv fm/21 and the purchase and unsuccessful trials of Renault NC-27. After the disappointing trials with Strv fm/28, it was decided to find another alternative. The requirements for a New Tank were set as follows:

- Weight of no more than 12 tons
- Frontal protection from 37mm guns
- Armament of both machineguns and a cannon
- Good mobility in Swedish terrain
- And at least 20kph sustainable speed on roads

Check out Listy’s article from Indo-Pakistani war, if you are interested!

- the question, how the European tech tree crew nationality will work, was not decided yet
- wrong icons in today’s historical battles info are simply placeholders
- both teams in historical battles can have different amount of tanks
- the setups of vehicles in historical battles released today, are NOT final, they are just concepts, it’s too early for final setup versions according to the developers (SS: it was mentioned that for example the M10/Panther could appear in Ardennes campaign)
- Tiger in historical battles will not have the L/71, but the 88mm L/56
- historical battles will work like a different mode, they will not be a random battle mode like encounter, assault and confrontation
- according to Storm, 9.0 will bring two major features: updated (HD) tanks and historical battles
- 9.0 test will not come this week (SS: end of the month/beginning of April for now)
- apprently the “hotspot” of 9.0 will be the comparison between WG and War Thunder HD models

Centurion AVRE and M728 CEV

Hello everyone,

today, we are going to talk about 16,5 centimeters of awesomeness. Sorry to disappoint you, ladies, I am of course talking about the L9 demolition gun caliber.

Centurion-AVRE-165-Fosgene

Now, everyone knows Churchill AVRE and its 290mm spigot mortar, hurling 18kg shells at 80 meters (it had actually longer range than that, but at longer ranges, it was not accurate enough to lead effective fire). With its massive armor and this kind of firepower, no wonder a lot of people would like to see it in World of Tanks. While Churchill AVRE is probably the best known AVRE vehicle, it’s certainly not the only one. It has a couple of “cousins” (some very distant ones) and one of them is the Centurion AVRE.

- Storm confirms that a part of the tanks in the game will have real sounds, recorded from real existing tanks of the proper type. The rest will have apparently sounds from roughly the same class of tanks (analogues)
- according the Wargaming, the following situation is not a bug, but a result of shells originating (flying out) from the mantlet while shooting with the unaimed gun

qSeUZ5T

- apparently, the situation above is a result of a compromise between game mechanics and historical realism
- occasional desynchronisation between client and server is unavoidable with current state of world network development
- artillery shells flying outside of the aim circle was identified as a bug, it will be fixed in 9.0
- Russian “Valuev” voiceover will not be reworked

Artillery Shells Bug to be Fixed in 9.0

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/3096280.html

Hello everyone,

a lot of artillery players have noticed a bug, where shells tend to land all over the place, in a completely different sector or just outside of the screen. You can see it here (a video from Russian server):

Well, I have good news. Storm confirmed that this bug has been identified and it will be fixed in 9.0
