Saints and Soldiers – The Void: More Videos

Hello everyone,

some time ago, I wrote (or rather Wargaming made videos) about the upcoming “Saints and Soldiers – The Void” movie about Hellcat crews being chased in the Harz mountains by two Panzer III’s or something (the movie really is more like about “evil white man vs magical black guy kept down by racism”, but at least it has tanks).

Part 1 of the “behind the scenes” series can be found here, part 2 here.

Part 3 of the “behind the scenes” series – this time about the Hellcat:

Gamescom Summary

Hello everyone,

I was wondering whether to make this post or not as a summary of the Gamescom stream and other things related to it, since it’s kinda all over now, no stream planned for today as far as I know. In any case, after sitting down in the evening and thinking about the entire thing this year, the word that comes to my mind is… “failure”. Well, at least to the 99,99 percent of players, who did actually not go to Gamescom in person, but were wondering, what it was all about. And it’s a pity – from what I heard, the booth was actually very cool.

I am not quite sure what to write that was not already written – so I will just sum it up from the perspective of someone, who did not go there.

What I liked

They finally showed the World of Warships. Well, partially, it’s not like we saw anything much from it, just a few tidbits of information and some hangar footage (unless more was shown in the last stream, I did not watch that). That however means one thing: it’s open season on leaks and as I write this text, I am looking at leaked video from the alpha test. We’ll get rid of the annoying watermarks and post something later, but for now, let me tell you that it looks VERY promising. Me gusta! Unfortunately, that’s about the only thing I liked.

What I did not like

I mean, where do I even start.

Russia Wins the Tank Biathlon

Thanks to Xerkics for this one.

Hello everyone,

unsurprisingly to many, Russia won the 2014 Tank Biathlon.

Yesterday, on 16.8.2014, Russia was declared the winner at the Alabino grounds near Moscow with the top 4 teams consisting of Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and China. Other teams in the competition (that consisted of a course where the crews had to traverse the distance of cca 20km while shooting at targets in lowest time possible) consisted of Serbia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, India, Mongolia and Kuwait.

Meanwhile in Kiev

Thanks to Edrard for this one.

This is actually funny :) You probably know about the story how the separatists stole the IS-3 from a monument in Lugansk and pained “Onwards to Kiev” on it.

Well, the tank got to Kiev indeed… just not the way the terrorists and their Russian patrons expected. It was captured by Ukraine forces and brought to Kiev to resume the role it was meant to fulfill: a piece of history on a monument.

Gamescom Q&A

Hello everyone,

since WG Gamescom stream is much stronk this year, we were not able to watch the communication between players and developers. At least WG did put up a summary of the developer answers on the portal. I am adding it here for the sake of completeness, because – as you can imagine – the answers are pretty useless and there is nothing new in them. Oh well. Please note that some of the stuff is even wrong (for example “RU251 not this year” – it’s coming in 9.3)

tomasfolik: When will you have a multi-core CPU support in World of Tanks?

Multicore support is already partially introduced to the game. In fact, some of the game processes are already managed by the other cores. However, we have plans to extend it with the introduction of Havok effects.

Tropical Tank 8-20-10

Hello everyone,

just a short post about something, that was kinda haunting me for a while. Some time ago, I was going through the British section of one Czech portal and ran into something called “Tropical Tank 8-20-10″. I had absolutely no idea what it was as there were no details provided, but its name intrigued me and so, after some unsuccessful searching, I asked David “Listy” Lister, since he has extensive knowledge of British vehicles. And, of course, he came through.

The Tropical Tank 8-20-10 is mentioned in the “Mechanized Force” book by David Fletcher and was created in 1922 by Philip Johnson for service in India. Four versions were proposed: a tank, artillery transporter, supply carrier and an amphibious version. It was one of the very early British tank designs. It had a 45 horsepower engine, Rackham steering and a 4 speed gearbox. Its armor was probably paper thin (protecting against small arms only) and it was equipped with two machineguns in twin turrets.

A single prototype was tested in June 1922 – after running 238 miles, the tank broke down and its development was discontinued. The prototype was likely scrapped later on. It has of course no place in World of Tanks, since it was equipped with machineguns only, but nevertheless, if you are looking for this obscure piece of hardware from the beginnings of British tank design, here it is.

World of Warships Gamescom Video

Hello everyone,

WoWs portal posted this video, in Russian unfortunately. Some answers were also given. Still worth watching!

From what was said in the video:

- models in the alpha are already created in high quality and historicity
- the models are based on a large archive of military documents
- turrets will change with configuration
- there are optional hulls (such as Minekaze early (1922) and late)
- Essex is the tier 9 US aircraft carrier
- carrier planes can also be upgraded as a module (there are several classes of aircraft with different roles, such as dive bombers, torpedo bombers, fighters)
- British and Soviet ships will appear in the game, after release
