Reddit Q&A with Quasar, Ectar and Obirian

Hello everyone,

in case you haven’t seen the portal: there is a QA planned for Reddit on Thursday evening with the the abovementioned three people from WG EU. Let’s see what interesting info they will disclose :) Might I humbly suggest the following questions for your consideration? They might produce interesting results for you ;)

- which three branches will (if all goes well) appear in 2014?
- what will happen to the FV4202 in 2014?
- what will happen to the FV215b (120) in 2014?
- will we see the Firefly in 2014?
- how will the Firefly branch look? (that one’s pretty interesting)
- will we see the Sturmtiger in 2014 and how exactly will its branch look?
- Sturmtiger: TD or artillery?
- what will be the American tier 8 light tank?

But then, I am sure you will come up with interesting questions on your own :) In case you don’t feel like reading it all, I will (in the night) make a write-up of anything interesting said.

2014: Type 59 versus T-34-3

Hello everyone,

recently, one old discussion came up in the Czech section – Type 59 versus T-34-3 (can’t find the link though). A Wargaming employee was basically saying these tanks are about the same while a player was arguing the Type 59 is clearly superior. But how is it really? Type 59 has the reputation of being an awesome vehicle, while T-34-3 has… well, not much of a reputation and I haven’t seen so many of those driving around.

Well, let’s have a look then. I took the press account I still have and took both for a spin. I tested both under similiar circumstances (100 percent crews, full similiar equipment – both had the rammer, stabilizer and gun laying drive, regular consumables). Furthermore, I don’t own either of these vehicles, but I am very familiar with the T-54, which the Type 59 closely resembles, so it’s not like I haven’t played with a “T-54 clone” before.

T-34-3

Now, I am sure you all are familiar with the basic T-54 clone layout. Agile, heavily sloped frontal armor, very thick frontal turret, decent gun, but usually poor depression and meh mobility. I am pleased to say, this has not changed for the T-34-3. It’s still a T-54 clone (and I obviously mean that in game terms, not historical terms), but there is one significant difference: the 122mm gun.

Balance-wise, the vehicle is actually not bad. When you look at the winrate comparison (“new method of evaluating tanks”) on wot-news for the T-34-3, you will see that its winrate curve matches the player winrate curve almost perfectly, which means it’s neither overpowered nor underpowered in general terms. That is good. As next step, we can compare it to the other tier 8 premium Chinese tank, the Type 59. The linked data is a bit obsolete, the Chinese 122mm HEAT for example got nerfed from 300 to 250 penetration, but it’s enough for you to get the idea.

Hall of Shame special issue: ESL admin

Thanks to Spyo for this one.

Hi everyone,

meet “tRUStY”, an ESL Admin (ingame nickname: tRUStYhu)

Trusty is a really nice guy. He’s 23, he has nice webpages, he is into Call of Duty and World of Tanks. Trusty doesn’t like Jews (since he uses the word as an insult), what he does however like is abuse of power his ESL admin position brings him. Check this out.

At first, Trusty decides to rage a bit.

Check out Listy’s new article about Secret Service boats between the wars

- Q: “Should we await fixes of the WoT lags?” A: “As much as necessery” (SS: SerB later states that lags are generally caused not by insufficiency of WoT servers, but by ISP’s – he advises you take the Pingplotter software and communicate with your ISP to fix the issue)
- the penetration value of HE shell does not influence the damage this shell does during non-penetration hits
- SerB confirms that during peak times (high server load), servers are not exchanging the data about players being online (SS: as in, your friend plays on EU2, you on EU1 and if both servers are at their full capacity, you won’t see your EU2 friend as online in your friends list) – this is not a bug
- regarding the patch number system, SerB states they care very little about that
- SerB states that with the “Siege of Leningrad” RU server double XP event, the developers counted on the fact tons of players would be playing in order to reach the “1 million online” milestone
- the perspectives of BigWorld development are “awesome”
- the features integrated into BigWorld 3.0 will be “useful” and many of those will appear in WoT/WoWp/WoWs (SerB later adds that he can’t talk about it specifically)
- Chi-Ri turret having odd weights and armor? “Ask Japanese engineers” (explanation by leshakartoshkin: Toyama and Tokanawa are NOT actual engeneers, it’s just a joke. То яма, то канава. Refers to fictional japanese engeneers responsible for building russian roads. Or this: “Originally this joke was about a pilot from USSR, taking part in Vietnamese conflict”. Japanese joke is newer one.)

Hungarian Firepower: Nimród and Nimród 80mm tank destroyers

Author: Károly “Karika” Németh

Hello everyone,

the following post deals with the history and possible implementation (viability) of the Hungarian Nimród tank destroyer in detail. It was written by Károly “Karika” Németh and after seeing it, I specifically asked for his permission to publish it on For the Record – the reason for that is that I haven’t seen the info on 80mm Nimród project anywhere else on the web (at least in English) and it might be new to many of you, dear readers.

History:

One yeat after the first L-60 light tank were purchased, in 1937 the Swedish Landsverk factory presented the L-62 anti-tank and anti-air self-propelled machingun to the Hungarian Army. The HM (Hungarian Ministry of Defense) was interested, and ordered a prototype. After the first trials in Sweden, in 1939, and the hungarian MÁVAG factory bought a prototype and the production rights.
The main reason why the hungarians bought the L-62 was that their military leaders thought that the freshly equipped troops could use some fast, all-terrain, mechanized anti-air support (and anti-tank support in the conditions of the late 1930’s) vehicle, and its 40mm Bofors gun was already manufactured in Hungary and and resembled in many ways to the already bought L-60/Toldi.

Theirs is the Glory (1946)

This movie is actually a half-document about the Operation Market Garden and British troops fighting in it. It’s very interesting in one aspect: its creators used real life German vehicles and weapons during the production, so we can see Panthers rolling around, not something you will see in modern movies. Well, maybe except for the upcoming Fury.
