WoWp fail: Competition a bit too easy

Hello everyone,

usually posting about WG fails is not very entertaining, but this time, I had a pretty good laugh :) So, there is this competition, where you were supposed to fill the crossword with aircraft words. Pretty neat, huh?

Only they posted the crossword file already filled with solution and all. Brilliant. As a result, the competition was cancelled immediately.

Great job, guys! :)

- there was never a real “Porsche Jagdtiger”, the only thing that historically existed was the “classic” Jagdtiger with a Porsche suspension (SS: that was not built on Tiger P hull, the hull was the same as that of the regular Jagdtiger)
- IS-3 optional hulls are apparently not sure yet, but most likely there will be two hulls: the regular one (like now) and the earlier prototype one without the pike nose
- gun stabilization (SS: less rocking of the aim reticle during movement) will not increase when the independent suspension is implemented, according to SerB it is sufficient even now
- there is already the basic technical framework for serverside replays in existence, but Storm states there is still a lot left to do
- it’s possible Stalingrad map will appear in WoT
- Havoc: “when it’s done it’s done, I can’t give you any date”
- it’s possible there will be new tier 7 or 8 premium Soviet tanks
- the profitability of premium vehicles that have it better than JT88 (SS: third from above) will remain the same
- there is not yet a definitive answer about how exactly will the TD gameplay change in the future
- the render range will change from (current) square with a 1000 meter side to a circle of 700m radius
- there are no plans to change the aiming reticle
- there are no plans to change anything for top tier German tanks (SS: as in, change the tanks themselves, not their properties) – at least in 2014
- the shell path mechanism will remain the same in HD client as it is now
- dynamic characteristics (SS: as in, you mount equipment and the characteristics of the tank in the garage change) will be added (“it’s done when it’s done”), but for now everyone is working on the new clan functions and historical battles
- for now it is not known when there will be a buff/rebalance of tier 10 British medium tank
- there are plans to rework the conditions needed for “curageous resistance”
- transfer to new Flash (Action Script 3) is planned, Storm is not sure in which patch

It’s a Fake – Part 1: T-60P

Hello everyone,

those of you, who like to read about tank history probably know how much bullshit info and fake tanks are there around. This is something that actually bothers me, because there are some myths, that get repeated over and over (some of the most annoying myths being referring to the Jagdpanzer 38t as “Hetzer”, the crap about Shermans burning all over the place and other bullshit by Belton Cooper and many others).

A special category of tank myths however belongs to fake tanks, that were never built or even projected. In this category belongs the myth that Löwe or Bär had working prototypes (they didn’t) and all sorts of German-related bullshit, made up by Wehraboos, modellers or simply ignorant or confused people (Krokodil, FlakMaus and others). There is one special subcategory of the previous group however: fakes, created intentionally with some purpose in mind. This is the category of Wargaming fake tanks like the 120 ton VK7201, WT E-100, T28 and T28 Prototype and other crap, that makes its way to history sites, because World of Tanks is supposed to be historical. We’ll take about that in next part.

Today however, we are going to have a look at a fake that – if unchecked – could spread and – in worst case – appear historical, the T-60P.

“T-60P” is supposed to be a (possible high-tier) Polish tank. It appeared first in this topic on European forums in the Polish section. Basically, the author (nickname Antonowicz) produced a story, where he claims that his grandfather was working in Polish plant in the 60′s (!) and that he mentioned (!!!) such a project being created as an upgrade to the T-54 by mounting a T-10M turret (!!!) on a T-54 hull. It was supposed to look like this.

The Legion at Samara – Part II

Part 1: http://ftr.wot-news.com/2014/01/03/the-legion-at-samara/

Ride accross the river, deep and wide…

samara

They almost made it.

Immediately after the arrival of both flanking batallion to Samarskaya Slobodka, the units took all the barges and rafts they had and started their trek accross the river. Night fell upon the land and all that could be heard were silent whispers of the men, organizing the transport – and soft water splashes, as first makeshift boats touched the murky waters of Samarka river. Across the river, the enemy was waiting, hidden in the evening mists.

A part of the 12th Company, led by 2ndLt.Tajbr would go first. They had no paddles, so they used their trench shovels instead. The men were grim and silent, paddling, or clutching their rifles nervously. There was constant danger that the enemy would see them and start firing on the defenseless barges and rafts.

Can the T-54 model 1949 “light variant” be a tier 8 Soviet premium?

Hello everyone,

yesterday, I made a post about the light variant of the T-54 based on info Slakrrr from US forums found. I proposed this vehicle to become a tier 8 light tank in the post and the same question was asked by someone else too. Actually, a developer replied that WG is aware of this vehicle and is considering it.

Immediately after the article, speculations arose whether this tank can become Soviet tier 8 premium (possibly replacing somehow the ill-fated T-44-85). Let’s compare it a bit with other tier 8 premiums.

Now, we will be working with following premises:

- Type 59 as a premium tank is overpowered
- T-34-3 as a premium tank is fine
- T-44 as a regular tier 8 tank is fine

First, let’s compare it with the Type 59, to make sure it wouldn’t be OP immediately.

Armor

Upper frontal plate of Type 59 is 100mm thick at 60 degrees, T-54 (49) has 80mm at 60 degrees
Lower frontal plate of Type 59 is 100mm thick at 55 degrees, T-54 (49) has 80mm at 55 degrees
Turret front of Type 59 is 200mm, T-54 (49) has 180mm

In practically all the armor aspects, T-54 (49) is inferior. So far so good. T-44 has 90mm hull armor (under the same angle, eg. better), but it has weaker turret – significantly. But then, that is not that big a problem, since the T-54-3 also has that typical Chinese/Soviet round hardened turret (with 190mm frontal turret armor no less). I’d say armor-wise it fits.

T-54 model 1949 light tank variant

Source: narod2.ru via Slakrrr (US forums)

Hello everyone,

what we have here is a quite interesting thing. Some of you (with very good memory) might remember one interview with SerB for the Goha.ru portal from more than two years ago (you can check it here), where – while discussing potential light tanks – he mentioned an ultra-lightweight variant of the T-54 tank a potential hightier candidate for World of Tanks. I’ve seen this interview before several times, but I honestly never found anything about this special T-54 variant, until it showed up on US forums today. It’s pretty interesting actually. Here’s what we know about it.

SuT5455047

The article states that there was some testing of various types of tracks for T-54 tanks around 1949. At the same time, in May 1945, the design bureau of Plant No.183 (Kharkov) designed a light variant of the T-54 tank with improved terrain passability compared to the production T-54 model. This light variant could serve during special operations, where passability, speed and agility were needed more than superior armor protection. In order to achieve that, this light variant had wider tracks (580mm).

Not much today. But you can check out Listy’s post about the Israeli defense of Yad Mordechai kibutz from Egypt in 1948

- in 8.11, the option to disable the battle chat will come, however players with disabled chat will not be marked as such (SS: as in, others won’t be able to see whether your chat is disabled or not)
- apparently, the option to “thank” a player after battle for his good performance will come in some undisclosed future (SS: if I understand it correctly, because SerB used a phrase that makes no sense to me)
- Lowe ammo rack module size has not changed in 8.10 (SS: only the number of shells carried increased)
- Chieftain on US forum states that Wargaming is aware of the T42 Medium Tank (SS: it might theoretically appear in the second US medium branch, but who knows)

Ensk inspired by Minsk

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/2923103.html

Hello everyone,

an interesting post appeared on RU forums – did you know that Ensk might have been partially modelled after Minsk? I sure didn’t. LJ user yozas_gubka makes a number of interesting comparisons between Ensk buildings and those really existing in the home city of Wargaming, Minsk. He admits that although the map developers might have drawn their inspiration from generic Soviet-type architecture, some buildings in Minsk come very close to what we can see in Ensk. Check this out:

This building exists in Ensk…

A-32 – short review

Hello everyone,

today, we are going to have a look at another tank, that is currently not available on the EU server, the A-32 – and we will attempt to answer the question: are we missing something, or it’s not worth thinking over?

shot_012

A-32 is a medium tier 4 tank. According to World of Tanks wikipedia, it was a part of the light pre-order package, but even though I play the game practically ever since it came live, I don’t remember seeing a single such vehicle in battle. According to WoT Wiki, there are like 8000 of these vehicles on EU server in total, but few of them are played, you’d be very lucky to see one – and there’s a reason for that. It’s worth noting that for a while, A-32 was classified as a light tank, before moved to the medium class.
