Free IS-6 global mission

Thanks to KrasnayaZvezda for this one

Hello everyone,

recently, Korean server announced some interesting events. In order to celebrate 1st Anniversary of Korean server and the New Year, WoT Korea will run the following event:

kor1

In one month (from 16.12.2013 to 15.1.2014), if you manage to grind 100k XP (!) on tier 6 vehicle of one nation, you will get free 3 days of premium account. BUT! If you manage to grind 100k on a tier 6 vehicle of EVERY nation (UK, USSR, France, USA, Germany, China, Japan, eg. 700k XP altogether) within that one month, you will get a free IS-6 tank.

And the best part? Yea, I’m getting to it. There is a Korean staff post, where it is stated:

“본 임무는 월드 오브 탱크 한국 서비스 1주년과 다가오는 2014년 신년을 맞이해
대한민국 뿐만 아니라 전 서버를 대상으로 공동으로 진행되는 글로벌 임무입니다.”

translated by Daigensui (who speaks Korean):

This mission is a global mission conducted not only in Korea, but all servers to celebrate the 1st anniversity of WoT KR and New Years 2014

So yea, we might be getting that stuff too. But 700k XP… damn, that’s brutal. That 23k XP on tier 6 (!) every single day. Well, my best vehicle without premium account is the Jackson, where I have average 560XP. That means 41 battles every day, which (translated to time with 7 minutes being the battle average) is almost 5 hours a day of gaming. Damn. It can obviously be accomplished earlier with premium account (in which case it’s roughly 30 battles a day), but even though I bought PA for the gold I won for the German TD competition, it still most likely means I won’t do it. If it comes that is.

13.12.2013

- during bonus XP events, the increased XP does not count towards the mastery badge requirements
- it’s possible that at some point, STB-1 will recieve its hydraulic suspension
- Q: “Did you consider making a bridge between the new medium Soviet line and the second Soviet (Obj263) TD line?” A (SerB): “No, we don’t consider all sorts of garbage, we don’t have as much time on our hands as you do”
- apparently, in 8.10 the bug where the ammo reload screen (when you reload gold ammo for credit) switches to gold ammo for gold is back, Storm knows about it
- Storm, when asked about the pictures at the end of the WoT Graphics video, such as this one (and about their appearance in game):

whoa

“This is what we will strive for in 2014″

Storm also adds that for high graphics settings, the required hardware will be “contemporary”, but can’t tell what configuration exactly will you need (he states he’s no expert in that). He however adds that i5+660Ti is a good system and that it shouldn’t exceed that by much. He also adds that multicore support will have little influence on that, as currently the performance depends mostly on the graphic card.

- Storm, when asked why the earlier pictures of the green STB-1 were much brighter, states that in their developer viewer, the lighting is very bright. This is how the camouflage on Japanese tanks was before (brown basic color)

How WoT graphics improved till 8.10

Hello everyone,

here’s a video from Russian portal about how the game improved in graphics since its release. They aren’t saying anything new or important, only that 8.10 will bring some nice graphic improvement and how the game used to look crappy, but eveolved. Overall, it shows a nice comparison between the old WoT and the new one. Gosh, I can’t believe it used to be so ugly…

Storm on 0.8.10 Test 2

Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/263590.html

Hello everyone,

Storm posts a lot these days, luckily for us. Now, he is asking for your feedback on test round 2 of patch 0.8.10. Specifically, if you have some FPS problems, you are to upload dxdiag log, python.log from game files and a screenshot of your graphic settings. Please note there is no point in uploading them here and posting them in comments, Russians have enough feedback on their own (for once, the fact they have weaker computers on average is a benefit to us).

If you REALLY feel like giving your feedback, go to the source linked above and post it in comments. However, what I think is more interesting is the discussion:

- 0.9.0 will bring HD graphic models, these HD models will be on standard graphic render too
- the levels of detail for HD client will be “normal” too, eg. you won’t have to buy a new computer from 0.9.0 (SS: if I understand it correctly, it will be possible to switch the HD models off by reducing your texture quality)
- 0.9.0 will come in 2014
- in next patch (0.9.0) following maps will be fixed: Malinovka, Erlenberg, Redshire, Highway, Sacred Valley, Northwest (SS: noooo don’t touch Malinovka :( )
- apparently Malinovka has imbalanced base winrate
- in next patch there will be tier 10 TD fixes (nerfs), they are already being tested, Storm states he will not tell what changes “so the New Year is peaceful :)” But it’s not a camo nerf, Storm states that camouflage changes will come later, as they require a lot of testing
- T57 Heavy will not be nerfed at all – Storm states its winrate actually dropped, he’s now 3rd worst on its tier.
- the FPS drops in test 1 were apparently fixed, Storm states that they were caused by “improperly assembled shader package during the assembly of the patch client, this was the reason for not only the FPS drops, but also the graphic artefacts and weird trees, this is why the supertesters have not caught it – the supertester version was assembled normally”
- in 0.8.10, the garage sometimes shows different crew skills than those, that are on the pop-up skill window, this is because there is a bug in the number rounding
- Storm states that to implement both colours for the Japanese tanks would be “expensive” (SS: or it could be interpreted as “requiring”), because it would increase the client size by 10-20 percent
- according to Storm, the Ferdinand size difference is insignificant

Japanese camouflage on green primer

Hello everyone,

I made a few pictures of STB-1 with green camo. Maybe it’s just my impression, but it looks sort of… less bland. Anyway, here are the pictures, along with camouflage description, so those of you, who have not bought the Chi-Nu Kai know what camo awaits you. Personally I think the camo patterns are very pretty. Still, the suspension is too dark.

Green and more green…

Hello everyone,

as you probably heard (if you haven’t tried directly yourself), the color of Japanese tanks was changed to green. Dark green, specifically. Apart from being less historically important than the brownish one (“artillery brown”), which was the basic primer of all the Japanese vehicle (Daigensui on green: “This is the Southern Army alternative color, willow green, used to replace the olive green for the Northern Army camouflage. Due to its coloring over most of the parched grass primer base, it is considered the base color for IJA tanks in the Pacific”), it’s also WAY too dark. Look, this is how top 3 tanks look now:

T-44-85 changes in 8.10

Hello everyone,

you probably remember the T-44-85, the Soviet tier 7 premium tank, that was supposed to come last patch, but it was postponed, because it was imbalanced?

T-44-85_12-5-25

Well, as you know, it’s not coming in 8.10 either, but Wargaming did rebalance the vehicle somewhat – probably not its final form, but to show where this is going:

- hitpoints were reduced from 1150 to 1100
- traverse nerfed from 56 deg/s to 54 deg/s
- terrain resistance nerfed from 0,8/0,9/1,8 to 0,9/1/2
- gun penetration was improved from 126/167/43 to 147/210/43
- gun damage was improved from 160/160/280 to 200/200/300
- ROF changed from 12,5 RPM to 9,52 RPM, lowering DPM from 2000 to 1908
- the price of regular AP shells increased from 109 to 175 credits
- the price of gold shells increased from 7 to 8 gold
- the price of HE shells increased from 98 to 139
- both the AP and gold shells have marginally higher velocity

Overall, it’s hard to say whether it’s a nerf or not. The vehicle will be less mobile, but it will penetrate more. Time will tell how it will end up, but personally, mobility nerf makes the tank less attractive for me, because earlier I really liked its speed.

Model changes in 0.8.10 test 2

Hello everyone,

there were some additional changes in 0.8.10 T2. Formally, there were no changes of the vehicles from T1 apart from the STB-1 nerf as far as I can see. The only other thing I noticed was the fact Panther I got renamed to Panther.

Ferdinand got a bit bigger – please note that Storm specifically said they didn’t touch its camo factor

Discount for today

Hello everyone,

so, today’s T-127 is on discount. Okay, here’s another thing that sort of bothers me. Not much, but still. When Wargaming first came with the concept of event reward tanks, I was actually quite overjoyed. I mean – there’s a collector value in it in the sense that you were THERE (if I recall correctly, the T-127 was a Christmas tank for 2011). And now, it’s in the shop. With discount. You can see where I am going with it.

I understand that creating a new tank is not easy, it costs Wargaming money and they want the money back. But I think that specifically gift tanks should remain gift tanks, so when you drive them, you were “I was there two years ago” special – but that won’t happen now, not when every Dick and Harry can now buy it from the shop. As usual, the discount is not 50 percent as advertised, but only 36 percent (no slot discount of course).

And of course, we have our daily small fail (what would be a WG EU event without one, right?):

fire_extinguisher

While I do think pouring Coca-Cola on a burning engine could produce interesting results, I am not quite sure they did that in real life.

Edit: Yea, checked and I made a mistake with that T-127, it was apparently quite common tank. However, Tetrarch and T1E6 (both Christmas presents) were also sold in bundles.
