- Storm himself in’t happy with the 0.8.6 sounds. Some sounds will be reworked or moved back to the 0.8.5 version in 0.8.7 (namely the tank being hit and explosion sounds).
- the T-44 will have the sound of shifting gears and various engine RPM sound on various speed implemented, based on real life T-44 sounds
- apparently, the Russian weekend event with double XP/income for top players is VERY popular
- Wargaming’s statistical data on how many people played/play arty won’t be disclosed
- Type 59 won’t be rebalanced (like the Superpershing)
- the fact whether arty gains enough XP per battle in 0.8.6 will be known after 2 weeks or so (when first statistic results come in)
- Storm states that it is not true that the 0.8.6 brought reduced performance (FPS) for a lot of people. In fact, he says it’s the other way around, 0.8.6 increased FPS for a lot of people (SS: including me), if you have lower FPS in 0.8.6, Storm suggests to write a support ticket and ask there. Otherwise the complaints on FPS drops are normal after each patch.
- upcoming patches will bring new game features and optimalisations
- Pz38H (“Micromaus”) had its MM weight reduced
- general light tank rebalance is not planned
- it’s possible destructible sand hills (SS: not sure what exactly is meant here, but I don’t think it’s the terrain dunes, more like small sand terrain features) will be introduced, but not soon
- dynamic amount of complaints per day (SS: the more you play, the more times you can report someone in game) will not be introduced for now
Category Archives: Q&A
21.6.2013
- Storm confirmed that tank destroyers keep their better camo coefficients than the rest of the vehicles despite camo coefficient’s rebalance to fit it to the vehicle dimensions
- when considering rebalance of vehicles, the current principles stay the same as before
- contrary to earlier reports, the new 0.8.6 shell distribution (AKA “increased accuracy”) DOES apply to arty also, the arty accuracy nerf was actually meant as a balance so that their accuracy remains the same
- King Tiger is “too small” for the superheavy spall liner
- it’s possible to delete the content of X:\Games\World of Tanks\Updates folder safely, those are just old files
- the miniquests (“combat tasks”) won’t be permanent, WG will continually introduce new ones and remove the old ones
- there were rumors that the new map will be called “mansion” – that is not the case
- Storm when asked whether he likes new sounds: “50/50″
- some players were whining about TD’s being the new arties (too many), Storm thinks it’s BS (“Give me 10 screenshots of 10 battles on tier 10, that follow each other, with 7-10TD’s in every team. If you don’t, I will ban you – ok?”
- historical “normalisation” on Soviet guns varied a lot, it was from 0 to 7-8 degrees (SS: “normalisation” effect – improving the impact angle – was archieved by soft-capped shells, that partially deformed upon impact and “chewed” into armor)
- for now it’s not yet decided, whether a special MM rule, forcing the same type of top tanks in both teams will be implemented (SS: so that one team doesn’t have two T10 heavies and the other two T10 arties)
- special map-based MM (SS: for example heavies often having maps with more cover) will not be implemented
- so far, Storm thinks the accuracy wasn’t overbuffed, but he will keep an eye on statistics
- the Westfield bridge was repaired only for the assault mode
- shell distribution within the aim circle IS dependent on the gun accuracy. A gun with 0.33 accuracy will have more shells flying straight to the center than a 0.4 gun.
- official shell velocity data won’t be made public
- British and German tanks won’t recieve any buff to compensate for the fact that now ALL the tanks are reasonably accurate and not just them
- if you hit enemy tracks and recieve “that one bounced” sound, even though you detracked the enemy, it’s not a bug, it means that the shell didn’t penetrate the armor behind the tracks
- Q: “Is it true that at this moment, WoT is more popular than World of Warcraft or Counterstrike?” A: “Depends which parameters you measure.”
- during the announced big rework of game models, both tanks and other objects (houses etc.) will be reworked, but not necesserily at the same time
- the fact some tank has covered tracks by (real life) spaced armor plates doesn’t automatically mean these plates are actually working as extra spaced armor, it’s different with each tank (SS: for example the Schmalturm PzIV side mesh armor doesn’t work), but if it does, then it counts as two layers of spaced armor: one is the plate and one is the track module behind it
- realistic sounds like in Gnomefather’s mod? “We need time to implement such stuff, so we can do it in good quality”
- the reason for the roaming mechanism are clanwars and international championships, roaming in randoms is just a “side-effect”
- SerB states that the current negative reaction on the patch is not unusual: “It’s always like that”, this negative reaction comprises largely of the reluctance to adapt to new conditions
- SerB commenting on the fact that while some vehicles in the game are historical and it’s not a problem, some are not and when players point that out, the reply is “it’s not a simulator”:
“We have a game (a game, not a simulator) based on historical basis. We decide, where the basis ends and the game begins. Yes, whenever we want and however we want.”
- Evilly (RU community chief): it’s still an open question, whether there will be permanent rewards for medals
20.6.2013
- the devs are studying the issue with the MM (SS: arty being balanced against heavies)
- VK4502B won’t be buffed, SerB thinks it’s doing fine
- the aim circle won’t apparently be possible to turn on and off
- aim circle is calculated on the server, but the shaking effect is doone by the client (hence it can be turned off) – it’s possible everything will be done server-side at one point, but it’s not certain
- the airplanes collision model on the airport map is fine, you can shoot under its wings – it doesn’t count as a “box”
- SerB doesn’t think that the arty is the most difficult type of vehicle to play for the newbies
- SerB also states that a lot less people than previously will level up the arty branches after 0.8.6 – and that’s a good thing
- When asked when gold actually counts as currency law-wise, SerB answers: “Without going into legal details, gold is an ingame valuable, obtainable for real life money. It has no relation to the gold metal, except for the name.”
- regarding roaming: if you have an account on other server, when roaming is introduced, it will NOT be possible to unify the account on one server with the one on another (SS: in other words, if you are American, but played some battles on SEA server before making a new account on US server, you won’t be able to transfer the tanks from SEA to US account)
- Q: “Guns too accurate in 0.8.6?” A: “How terrible!”
- the delay between the actual detection and the point when the lamp lights up (Sixth sense perk) won’t be reduced
- one of the roaming idea variants is that when a Russian account plays on EU server, the player will have _RU suffix (SS: I have a bad feeling about that…)
- SerB likes comet, but he liked Cromwell even more, he played on it even after he unlocked the Comet
- the reduced shell spread is a final decision, it won’t be removed
- SerB talking about the arty-is-underpowered whiners: “Right now, the arty noobs will be flushed out. After that happens, there will be whine that arty is OP again.”
- there will be no “switch one tier 10 for another tier 10″ possibility implemented
- other territories than Asia will also be made as maps in the future
And, a bonus question by a very “special” Russian player:
Postal_a42: Will there be any special event for 22nd June?
Storm: Don’t you feel ashamed asking such stuff?
Storm writes on 0.8.6
Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/209159.html
In this post, Storm gathers feedback and answers a few questions about the 0.8.6 patch. From the discussion:
- it’s possible the dynamic camera jerking after shooting (“recoil”) will be removed altogether, devs need more feedback (actually, Storm states that many players like this, because they consider it a part of the shooting experience)
- Storm knows about the mod, removing the aforementioned jerk (SS: it’s the one I linked previously)
- Storm likes the new sounds (SS: and so do I tbh)
- apparently, the effect where for example one team has 2 tier 10 arties and the other 2 tier 10 heavies is NOT desired and it looks like it’ll be dealt with
- Storm will also watch the statistics of the accuracy, it’s too early to tell whether it will stay as it is now, because it’s possible it was overbuffed (specifically, hit statistics, average battle times on various maps and tiers and average tank lifespan)
- apparently, the extended post-battle statistics mod does cause issues in 0.8.6
- the houses in Fjords were slightly moved
Plus, a bunch of SerB photoshops and photos were posted in the thread, such as this one (the T-shirt says “nerf arty!”)
19.6.2013
Today’s issue is “interesting”. Basically, what happened: a flood of artywhiners, moaning about arty nerfs started spamming the developer thread and SerB switched to troll mode, as he usually does. Well… you’ll see.
- red screen of death is apparently back for 0.8.6, happens allegedly in sniper mode, the new detail reduction system automatically sets everything to minimum and then crashes. SerB’s answer: “Write a support ticket”
- the shell prices were rebalanced not only based on their damage and penetration, but also based on the type of the gun they are used in. That’s why the (weaker) premium KV-5 shells are more expensive than (stronger) premium KV-4 subcaliber shells.
- devs don’t think the tier 8 premium vehicles with limited MM will suffer from the tier 9 arty (too much)
- further measures to reduce arty amount (SS: RU server reports the same 5v5 arty battles as before)? “If necessery”
- currently it can be assumed, that tier 10 arty is balanced towards tier 10 tanks
- Q: “All the guns now have basically the same accuracy!” (SS: common complain is that the guns are too accurate) A: “How terrible…”
- Q: “Too many fires caused by accurate guns!” A: “How terrible…”
- Q: “Mods not working!” A: “How terrible…”
- Q: “Priest moved to another tier, wtf?” A: “How terrible…” (SS: this question was even in rhymes :) )
- Q: “The amount of arties did not get lower…” A: “How terrible…”
Well, basically, “How terrible…” was the answer on most complaints about 0.8.6. There is a lot of whine, including “hidden arty buff”. Some exchanges are actually really funny:
Player Vesil: “I am quitting the game!” SerB: “How terrible…”
Player Vesil: “You don’t have much of a vocabulary” SerB: “How terrible…”
Player LordStuped: “Do you have to make fun of players, who don’t like the patch?” SerB: “How terrible…”
- Q: “FPS dropped significantly…” A: “How terrible…”
(later, when asked whether he doesn’t respect players, SerB states: “It is necessery to distinguish players and idiots. Those are two (unfortunately still somewhat overlapping) categories. We do respect players, but with idiots it’s not that simple. This (thread trollflood) happens regularily – idiots come here and the thread topic is temporarily exhausted (SS: as in out of order)”)
- ingame penetration indicator works automatically, there is no need to manually adjust values for it
- dynamic camera is apparently fine: “you can turn it off (if you want to)”
- Q: “Why did you decide not to implement the British arty with autoloader?” A: “Beause the arty doesn’t come in this patch.” (SS: not sure what SerB exactly means, probably just a brushoff, either way, the British arty with autoloaders doesn’t appear in the leaked British arty branch)
- it’s possible there will be various sound settings for 2.0, 2.1 and 5.1 sound
- when near tank corpses, jerking of the aim circle left and right is likely the effect of dynamic camera
- 8.7 will be a simple patch, containing apparently only content (vehicles, maps), not functional changes. SerB confirms 8.7 will bring British arty.
- developers won’t be able to judge the effect of 8.6, when 8.7 comes out (SS: meaning it will come soon), the results will most likely be known in 8.8 tho (SS: later, Storm stated that it takes roughly a month to collect the date, it’s therefore logical to assume that the British arty will come within the month)
- the average battle duration is cca 7 minutes and it practically hasn’t changed since the game came out
- developers are considering the implementation of T58 (T57 Heavy with a 155mm gun) – not as a CW reward vehicle, but apparently as a regular one – but SerB states that it’s hard to balance (as in, overpowered)
- shell ejector animation might be added, “when it’s done it’s done”
- Q: “I went thru the thread, not enough concrete answers, just ridicule…” A: “I went thru the thread, not enough concrete questions. How terrible…”
- SerB explains his attitude towards forum whiners: out of all the active players (those who play once per month), only 1/10000 are whiners, who try to pretend to be the “voice of the nation”. SerB finds that amusing.
- Westfield map was changed (SS: not sure I know how exactly, something about the sloped access from the village near the bridge towards the left base being removed), it was intentional
- the game is changed in big patches (rather then series of small minipatches), because: “That’s the general speed of development. The project is complicated, any changes must be accompanied by serious program testing. That’s not possible when doing frequent minipatches.”
- it’s possible the possibility to sell Superpershing for gold will come even after 8.7 – it’s necessery to implement the mechanism for that first. “It’s not a complicated mechanism, but as this matter concerns money, it will have to be tested thoroughly.”
- SerB on arty: “It was created to limit the heavies and especially heavily armored tank destroyers. The changes were designed to reduce arty effectivity against fast vehicles, while keeping the “heavy tank killer” function.”
- SerB doesn’t think the shell distribution within the aim circle will change further
- current maps being developed are mostly based on exotic regions, so that Clanwars maps can use those. Future maps will be more traditional, such as a “USSR city in winter” (this is an example)
- there are still issues with making the friendlist and ignorelist longer, when it comes to easy ignorelist cleaning, the developers are waiting for the new reworked chat, they don’t want any temporary solutions
- 0.8.6 contains no “hidden” changes in engine fire mechanism
- SerB states that FCM50t is doing fine in 0.8.6, players just need to play it properly – as a medium, not as a heavy, it’s sort of “anti-Superpershing”
- there will be no “spring” special camo implemented
- there will be no “art of war” competition for arty, because the devs want to nerf it, not make players play it more
- it’s unlikely that second German TD line will come in upcoming patches, but it will most likely come before the Chinese arty
- MM mechanism itself did not change in 0.8.6
- the exact percentual effect of the camo net will not be disclosed (it’s not confirmed 0.8.6 camo net gives a 25 percent bonus)
- Storm is working on new camo system description article
- it’s not possible to make the dynamic camera not-optional, because that would mean transferring the camera calculations to the server. If it becomes possible, the camera will become compulsory.
- whether your ammorack is full of shells or not (whether you loaded all the shells) has no effect on tank characteristics (doesn’t limit movement like the weight does). This is intentional, so that people wouldn’t go into battle with only a few shells and then screw their team by running around with no ammo
- it’s possible that one of the upcoming patches will contain something to improve the account security (no details yet)
- worldoftanks.ru portal is visited by less than 1 percent of active players
- the gold consumables for 1/2 price can also an experiment (SS: which probably means that if it is successful enough, it will stay)
- functions inspired by some mods will continue to be added, if the mods don’t break the game that is
- further tier9/10 arty nerfs? “If necessery. We decide, what is necessery.”
- devs don’t consider the French premium arty (LeFH) to be directly nerfed, it won’t be possible to sell it for gold – as for mechanism changes (such as accuracy for arties, or the lower 105mm HEAT penetration), those affect more vehicles than just the LeFH, that’s why they are not considered direct nerfs
- Storm states that the sounds of impact were even more “bland” in real life, it’s not like the tank was supposed to “ring” like a bell
- the mechanism of bush camo was not changed from 0.8.5
- no rebalances of light tanks (in connection with the new tier 9/10 arties) are planned
- the E-100 turret moving, that was deemed “too much” earlier will be eventually revisited, but it has very, very low priority
- in 0.8.6, second ricochet of a shell is still impossible
- the developers are tracking the effect of various game changes on the amount of people buying gold
- apparently, there was a second Superpershing historical variant, but the developers decided to implement the one, which they had more data on
- the loader perk Adrenaline Rush 10 percent HP threshold won’t be increased
- according to SerB, the fact that the tank disappears one second after it is lit up can happen, it’s neither a bug, nor a change in 0.8.6
- the “tasks” on test server (SS: you know, the thing where you did recieve ridiculously high rewards for god knows what) was just an experiment
- apparently, voting (about WG matters) in the game won’t be implemented
- the ability to freeze accounts (including the run of premium account, “vacation mode”) will not be available anytime soon – and if it comes in the future, it will be very limited. Freezing only the premium time without freezing the account itself is not even considered
- currently, multi-level water (SS: as in, lakes at various heights, cascades etc.) is technically possible, but it won’t come soon
- Black Prince armor wasn’t changed in 0.8.6
- Storm states that when it comes to vehicle balance and gameplay, the “rock-paper-scissors” principle still remains, just that there are two triangles now (HT-MT-TD and HT-arty-LT) and some of the vehicles are not as firmly belonging to one group as two years before
- developers are aware of the various fan-made trees, they have been corresponding with some sensible discussion participants from the threads dedicated to these fan-made trees. On this, SerB states that players in general have little authentic info on Japanese tech
- Murazor’s (SS: a popular WoT Russian blogger) opinion is apparently not more important to devs than the opinions of other players (SS: parallels can be drawn here with SOME EU/US players, who think they influence WG at every step)
- the “sell this tank for gold” function will be available only in very limited cases when the vehicle characteristics will change significantly, definitely not a standard option
- the top Conqueror turret is balanced as it is apparently (SS: a player was complaining that it is actually worse than the stock turret in some aspects, SerB stated that one has to take into account the armor slope and the fact it can carry a more powerful gun)
- Soviet D-5T-85BM has 10 ROF on T-34/85, 11,11 ROF on T-43 and 10,53 ROF on T-44, apparently this is intentional
- SerB states that skill MM based on some statistics (doesn’t matter what statistics) is technically possible (SS: it will not happen)
- “expert” medals (SS: not sure how they are called in english, master?) do not take premium tanks into account, because some premium tanks are practically impossible to meet in randoms
- the 0.8.6 premium shells for the Konisch gun were “sold” automatically during the patch implementation, because the developers wanted to nerf them, added them to the automatic sell list and in the end didn’t nerf them after all
- open-topped vehicles have better viewrange than other vehicles of their class (!)
- some idiot made a video with him using illegal mods and posted it in the developer thread. Made SerB happy, apparently
- SerB states that as far as he knows, the side mesh screens on Panzer IV Schmalturm do not work as spaced armor, it’s possible they will be added, when all the models will are reworked
18.6.2013
As predicted, today, the Russian server did recieve the 0.8.6 patch (EU server will most likely recieve it on thursday and US server next tuesday). The patch notes are a mess (they are HUGE, I really don’t envy the google guys translating them), but apparently, some things were ommitted from them, namely the T69 tank changes:
- ground resistance for the T84E1 suspension on solid ground reduced by 8 percent and on medium ground by 7 percent
- T95 suspension turn rate buffed from 40 deg/s to 42 deg/s and recieved a ground resistance buff of 8 percent on medium grounds
- engine AOSI-895-5 nerfed from 600 to 550hp
Also, please note that when the patch comes live, all the camouflages, regular experience, crews and combat statistics will stay on the vehicles they were before 0.8.6, even if that vehicle changes tier (eg. if you had 10k XP on tier 8 arty, that becomes tier 10, the XP will stay on that arty, so you will have a tier 10 arty with 10k XP)
Please note that ALL the arties will have ALL the installed unlockable modules removed, effectively becoming stock. The unlocked modules will be moved to your depot. Ammunition and equipment will also be removed from the arties and moved to the depot.
Components, that will get removed from the game (for example tier 10 arty second suspensions) will be sold for their purchase price.
We also have a trailer for 0.8.6. Because, you know, putting up a video, in which too many arties chew up the enemies is really a good idea for a patch, that’s supposed to actually limit the number of arties in battles:
Anyway, today there is nothing much to translate really, only one retarded trollquestion:
- there are no plans to allow the tank crews to retrain into pilots (in connection with the WoWp/WoT account unification)
17.6.2013
- Q: “Are you afraid that we the people will get angry if our wishes to nerf arty will not be heard?” A: “Megalomania is bad. Take care of yourself.”
- SerB on large caliber artillery shells ricocheting from thin surfaces: “Yes well, 8 inch naval shells did ricochet from the 25mm thick cruiser armor plates, so?” (SS: some players suspect Wargaming of somehow screwing with ricochets for HEAT arty shells by disabling overmatch)
- HEAT ricochet angle is 80 degrees, regular ricochet is 70 degrees
- there are enough Soviet heavies for 7 whole branches, but there are no plans to introduce that many
- while the accounts for WoT, WoWp and WoWs will be unified, this doesn’t count for clans, clans won’t be unified
- in 0.8.6, the bush camo principle will remain the same, because “it was a better solution” (SS: the new bush camo mechanism was bugged as hell)
- the camo system will be overhauled completely, but not soon
- Q: “In connection witht he premium ammo nerf, will the top 59-16 gun be buffed?” A: “Don’t play with the 59-16 top gun”
- client physics demonstration: “when it’s done it’s done”
- the devs are trying not to implement skills/perks, that would work with the same effect as the main skill (SS: for example a perk, that would decrease reloading time, which is the effect of the main skill of the loader)
- nation-specific skills/perks might be implemented, but not at this moment
- Vickers MBT and Vijayanta (SS: improved Indian licensed Vickers MBT copy)? “No comment”
- improved Chinese Type 59 with additional armor and new gun won’t be implemented, current Type 59′s are enough
- “modern” maps (SS: with modern architecture for example) are specifically avoided by the developers
- SerB on “free to win” principle “In our game, gold doesn’t give any advantage in battle. In levelling, it does. And it will continue to do so. Nothing I can help with.” As for the difference between gold- and silver-trained crews, SerB states: “You can always train your crew in battle. If you are lazy, nothing I can help with.” He answers the same for module unlocking – can be unlocked thru free or regular XP.
- water has no effect on shells whatsoever, some effect will be added but not soon
- you won’t lose by ramming a dead tank. If you feel like you lost some HP by doing that, you probably rammed the tank while it was still alive and the messages arrived in wrong order
- assist bonus for potential damage won’t be implemented (SerB: “I am waiting for the time when players will ask for bonus just for downloading the game”)
- no plans for 4 man platoons
- no mods as such will be implemented into the client. SerB states WG might “borrow” some ideas however.
- Deadeye perk will affect engine fire chance, but only indirectly (by increasing the chance to hit the engine), doesn’t increase the engine fire chance itself.
- the rapid fire autocannons have decreased chance to cause engine fires to compensate for the fact any hit can cause engine fire
SerB explains: “A shell hits the engine module, a “saving throw” is thrown (without that the game would be unplayable, veterans remember the 0.4.0 patch) – eg. the damage is dealt to the engine with some amount of probability. With each damage dealt to the engine above certain threshold, the engine can catch on fire. The engine below 50 percent health will turn yellow and on 0 it will turn red. This is the connection between crits and engine fires – the module damage.”
- premium vehicles do not correspond to the stock vehicles of the same tier – they are somewhat better than that, but elite vehicles of the same tier have to be better
Bonus: World of Tanks for Xbox game footage (for some reason, the sound is not working for me, not sure it’s on my side)
15.6.2013
- Storm explains “potential damage recieved” statistic: “It’s the sum of average damage of every hit recieved, because the damage counts toward this stat only when the real damage is dealt, after the armor is penetrated”
Looser78v (US server) explains:
Player asked – “Question about the “potentially taked damage” – it use average damage [stat for guns in your garage] of all hits on your tank, or the amount of damage already calculated [RNG-affected damage, which is what enemy gets, when you penetrate], but just not applied?”
Answer: “Sum of average damage for each hit.” Rest of answer should be understood in this way – Storm tried to explain why they use average damage, and not “amount of damage already calculated, but just not applied”:
-Average damage is used because actual damage [RNG-affected] calculated only after penetration, but “potentially taked damage” also count non-penetrating hits. [So how you will calculate "potentially taked damage", if you have damage numbers only for penetrating hits? Yes - by using stat-showed average damage for all hits.]
- in 0.8.6, all vehicle types will recieve same XP for the same damage done (SS: some players claimed that when currently tanks get 400XP for the same samage dealt, arty gets 200XP for the same damage, in other words, 50 percent increase for the 200XP would mean 300XP, not 400 – this calculation is wrong)
- SerB confirms that no “Klein Tiger” will come (even a heavier variant, than the unrealistically light Achtungpanzer versions), he considers it a “a fairytale for germanophiles”
- armor, that historically changes its thickness smoothly (SS: imagine a drop shape) and not by plates is in the game “simulated” as several layers of various thickness, not as smooth thickness change
- apparently, more XP for potential damage dealt won’t be implemented
- for now, there are not enough vehicles for 2nd French TD branch
- RU251 will most likely not come this summer
- Leopard 1 didn’t have its income “stealth-nerfed”
- it’s possible (if enough data are found and if there is an Israeli branch) that there will be captured Egyptian IS-3 tanks implemented, armed with something else than BL-9. Specifically, it could be premium Israeli heavy tank with D-25T gun, 250mm frontal armor and an engine from T-54 (SS: this question came from the Israeli community)
- it’s too early to say what kind of map will be implemented in 0.8.7
- T-35 is currently planned to be implemented as a premium/promo tank, not a regular one
- ZiS-4 and S-60 guns do have the same ballistic properties. Apparently, the 55-57FG Chinese gun is a clone of neither, the design works on it started in cca 1959
- SerB doesn’t consider the HEAT ricochet changes in 0.8.6 a buff
14.6.2013
Special thanks to Dyme for a gold donation, much appreciated :)
Nothing exact, but… currently, the compilation of 0.8.6 patch is finalized. We can expect it soon, my guess – next tuesday RU, thursday EU
- there was a theory presented by one RU player, that it doesn’t matter how much capture points you have when the battle is over, you will recieve the same XP bonus everytime. Storm apparently disagrees, but as far as I could see he didn’t deny it specifically
- Storm specifically states that the subcaliber normalisation will be reduced for ALL the subcaliber rounds, including the tier 10 medium tank silver ones
- tank destroyer numbers for each team were never balanced as equal
- premium French arty won’t be sellable for gold the was Superpershing will be, the reason is that there were no changes in it, warranting such a measure
- Storm states that this video looks nice, but has no connection to World of Tanks
- Storm isn’t afraid that the artillery got overnerfed in 0.8.6
- alternative ways how to change arty gameplay (SS: there were some very old ideas about changing the arty gameplay, for example no satellite view) are not developed at this moment
- in 0.8.6, artillery is easier to spot. This is intended.
- in 0.8.6, subcaliber penetration loss over distance was not nerfed
- the way scouts were treated by MM on test server is the same as on the main server (SS: players were complaining about battles, where one team had one scout LT and the other had a heavy instead), the intended new LT balance mechanism won’t return in any near patches
- if you have gold camo or emblems on Superpershing, if you sell it for gold, you won’t recieve additional compensation, the price will still be the same
- WoT (PC) won’t recieve any console-style aim-assistant (SS: on console games, to compensate for the relative clumsiness of the controller, games tend to guide the aim reticle towards the target a bit)
- when multiturret mechanism is implemented, it apparently won’t be possible to upgrade the auxilliary turret, but the developers haven’t thought about this yet really
- FV4202 was changed the same way all other tanks were in 0.8.6 (SS: a player was complaining about the fact it seems less accurate than it should be)
- Chieftrain prototype will be 2nd British T10 medium, or a heavy, or replace the FV4202? “When it comes, we’ll talk about that.”
- general remodelling of all the ingame models is coming, it’s possible that it will precede the researchable hull modules
- WoT might reach the graphic level presented in the “Xbox WoT” trailer in 5-7 years (so no, WoT on PC won’t look like that)
- shooting an unspotted target counts as if you spotted it, when it comes to XP/credit calculation (eg. you get full amount)
- Object 430 and Object 430U in WoT? “No comment”
- T-50-2 switch for another tank (MT-25) is still planned
- according to SerB, “Klein Tiger” is made up (SS: this thing comes from one server, dedicated to German vehicles, called Achtungpanzer. The server is notorious for making stuff up, there are more mistakes there, not just this one).

Probably the most important news of the day is that after a short time, Vallter is forced to abandon his blog, the very same blog that showed so much promise to eventually replace Overlord’s blog as an official English source of developer info. I wouldn’t really be surprised, if Vallter was forced to stop blogging, so worthless self-righteous lazy morons at WG EU (yes, we all know who I am talking about) were to stay as exclusive information source.
Ah well, that’s what I am here for anyway. So, BIG thanks to Vallter for bringing us nice amount of info (not like those morons at WG EU, who only translated several Storm’s post and they fucked up even that).
Anyway, today’s Q&A:
- the angle for ricochet in WoT is 70 degrees, this actually applies for the bottom of the tank too
- KV-5 suffering too much with the 8.6 patch? “Don’t play KV-5″ (Storm adds: It’s good for farming. When it comes to profitability, KV-5 is on second place compared to other T8 premium tanks. Storm also adds that which tank is on 1st place is secret, but it’s not T34)
- Charioteer (20pdr Cromwell) in WoT? “No comment on future branches”
- Kanonendjagdpanzer in the game? “It doesn’t fit the branches. Otherwise, no comment.”
- SerB on whether players should buy the new Chinese “112″ premium tank: “You want to buy? Buy it. You don’t? Then don’t. But there are no “pwn all” OP tanks in WoT and there won’t be any”.
- next few patches will bring something “unusual” (possibly new maps, vehicles and game mechanics)
- with the introduction of twin-linked guns and multiturret vehicles, Storm states it’s possible that both guns will be able to fire together at the same time
- according to Storm, the 25 percent RNG was made to make the game more realistic and more interesting
- in 8.6, enemy tank’s engine sound (SS: which players will be able to hear on 150m distance) won’t be heard, if the enemy vehicle isn’t spotted (SS: this is to prevent “camping and listening”)
- the gun of the same caliber has a stronger demasking effect on arty vehicles than on tanks and tank destroyers
- on T-25/2 and Jackson turrets (SS: where one of the turrets is open-topped and the other is covered), the “roof” cover actually works well against arty HE shells, it counts as covered roof, so when an arty shell hits and “slit” between the turret and the roof finds itself in a blast radius of the HE shell, the HE damage won’t pass thru it without any armor check at all.
- the APCR shells differ from AP shells in following parameters: shell velocity, shell penetration, normalisation and penetration loss over distance
- SerB earlier stated that the VK3601H konisch regular shells are actually historically subcaliber, they are marked (and treated) as “AP” for players not to be confused, eg. konish silver shells are not getting subcaliber-nerfed in 0.8.6
- there are no plans to re-work KV-5 armor the way the Superpershing armor is getting reworked. Allegedly there are some different data about the radioman’s miniturret thickness, but Storm doesn’t know about them
- it is (SS: very theoretically) possible (SS: or rather, not specifically excluded), that Jagdpanzer 38D (with L/70, but also with PAW 1000) and Krupp/Ardelt Waffentragers will be implemented as a part of some German branch (SS: In case you are wondering, Jagdpanzer 38D is a 38t (Hetzer) evolution and PAW 1000 is a German WW2 smooothbore gun, with penetration decent enough for tier 6-7). I wrote more on Jagdpanzer 38d and Waffentrager lines here, including pictures.
- the amount of credits you get from the battle does depend on whether you win or lose, this goes for premium vehicles too
- the fact France got late post-war camo does not mean Germany will get a Bunderswehr camo, because Germans have no problems with the amount of camo patters available for implementing.
- it’s possible some older models have small issues with gun barrel sizes (old M4 was mentioned), this will be corrected during the re-work of all models, which is scheduled at some point
