World of Papoj

Hello everyone,

here’s another funny little RNG video, this time from the Balkans. There are several parts – the author (Heruvim89) made them very… specific for the region (quotes from movies and such), so I was a bit reluctant to post them (trying to avoid nation-specific videos, plus the way it was made could be improved), but this latest one made me genuinely laugh (specifically the AMX-13 scene). Enjoy!

Hiring a Tank Now Available in China

Source: http://wot.kongzhong.com/zixun/banben/20141105/22012.html

Hello everyone,

first, many thanks to Chinese player Hesitation_Snow for sharing this piece of information. Basically, in 0.9.4, a new option was introduced to Chinese server – you can now hire premium tanks for a limited time. Now, as you probably know already, Chinese server is very special – it’s kept separate from the usual Wargaming servers and is license-operated by a Chinese company called Kongzhong, who basically just bought the license to operate World of Tanks from Wargaming.

The policies on such features are decided by the Chinese and the server thus has many unique features (and definitely more pay to win) than the regular main servers. Thus, it’s not known, whether this feature will make it to the regular servers, or it’s a Chinese exclusive thing. The basic points are this:

- players can hire tier 2 to tier 7 premium tanks for a limited time for gold
- maximum hire time is one month
- in the example, Churchill III (tier 5) can be hired for a month for 380 gold

On TD Viewrange Nerf

Hello everyone,

just a quick post explaining something. Many of you were shocked yesterday by the upcoming tier 9 and 10 tank destroyer viewrange, which is:

FV4004: 320 meters
FV4005: 330 meters

While current viewrange tier 10 tank destroyers is (examples):

Object 268: 400 meters
Object 263: 410 meters
WT E-100: 420 meters

etc. (basically between 400-420 meters). So why introduce vehicles, that have such a low viewrange suddenly? Well, the answer is (unfortunately/fortunately) simple. I asked around and there is a massive viewrange nerf coming (likely in 9.5, the nerf was announced earlier by Storm). It will definitely concern tank destroyers (they will have viewrange nerfed to the FV4004/4005 levels) and it’s possible it will concern other vehicles to certain extent. Details are unfortunately not known yet, it’s not even in testing yet.

The goal of this nerf is to improve the role of light tanks and scouting in the game.

Hungarian Branch in WoT – Part 7: The problems with the Tas rohamlöveg

Author: Karika

Part I
Part II: Light tanks
Part III: Turán medium tanks
Part IV: Tas medium tank
Part V: Tier 2-4 tank destroyers
Part VI: Problematic tank destroyers

In this part, we’ll take a look at how could the Hungarian Tas rohamlöveg tank destroyer be implemented into WoT. Everything is the same as in the previous articles: I will try not to predict game parameters (health points or alpha damage) and the balance parameters (radiorange, RoF, etc.) would not necessarely be implemented as I listed them below.

However, the implementation of this TD into the game is a bit difficult. You’ll see why.

Please note that these below are only the historical/logical characteristics, the potentially implemented tanks could get unhistorical stuff as last resort, if the game balance requires it.

Description:

This project of a heavy anti-tank self-propelled gun was developed in the early 50′s, using the equipment and parts from Centurion Mk.3. At first, it was tested with an automatic loading mechanism. Due to the fact that the ammo system did not fit the turret dimensions, it was decided to scrap it. One prototype was made and tested, but the vehicle was not mass produced.

In case you are interested – here’s an extremely interesting article about the Yom Kippur war (thanks to Brenthos for this one). In fact, the entire blog rocks.

- Storm explaining the HD textures issue once again: “We talked about releasing the textures in a simplified form, which can be seen starting from patch 9.3, because all the HD models are available by default with reduced texture quality. The quality of HD models will stay the way it is now. In short – the quality of upcoming HD models and tank textures will be the way it is now.”
- Q: “Why was SU-76I removed from the shop?” A (SerB): “Because it pwned newbies.” On the same matter, Storm confirms this (with sad “as usual”), he adds that the vehicle was tested properly, but a mistake was made and they are investigating it. Currently however, everyone is preparing for DevCon (SS: developer meeting) and the decision will be taken next week. Oddly enough, Yuri Pasholok in another comment says “told you so”, as in he knew about the imbalanced status of the vehicle.
- the changes in historical battle mode will be “radical”

Hungarian Branch in WoT – Part 6: Problematic tank destroyers

Author: Karika

Part I
Part II: Light tanks
Part III: Turán medium tanks
Part IV: Tas medium tank
Part V: Tier 2-4 tank destroyers

In this part, we’ll take a look at how could the Hungarian remaining tank destroyers be implemented into WoT. Everything is the same as in the previous articles: I will try not to predict game parameters (health points or alpha damage) and the balance parameters (radiorange, RoF, etc.), since they would not necesserily be implemented as I listed them below anyway.

However, I have to state right at the beginning that these TDs are rather difficult to implement into the game. They were all paper-only projects, which never left the drawing board and no prototypes were ever assembled. To further make the situation worse, that there aren’t any historical blueprints or photographs available of them by now, so modeling them is also problematic. The developers of WoT have to rely mostly on the limited, written descriptions and their own imagination if they decide to use these following TDs. Therefore, everything you’ll read from here on in is extremely preliminary and speculative and I’ll try to list the logical ways how we could see these tank destroyers in WoT.

Please note that these below are only the historical/logical characteristics, the would be implemented tanks could get unhistorical stuff as a last resort, if the game balance requires it.

Because of the many, yet unknown factors about the EU tree and the problems with the subsequent TDs, I created an other tech tree proposal, to represent the “other end” of contingency, namely the possibility of the (in some way) shared EU tier 1 tank, the other possible way to add the Toldi light tanks and the alternative places of the following tank destroyers.

The final tree could be somewhere in between probably.
