Chinese 8.8

Hello everyone,

an interesting file found its way to me. The source is legitimate, but asked me not to reveal any identity. Basically, as you know, World of Tanks has a Chinese server too. This server, however, is not managed by Wargaming, but by a Chinese partner, called Kong Zhang Wang. Amongst other things, while Wargaming provides all the content, KZW also decides, what goes in which patch apparently.

Closed SU-76M compartment

Source: Yuri Pasholok’s blog

Here are the pictures of an experimental modernized SU-76M variant with closed combat compartment by Plant No.40. This vehicle was planned to replace the SU-76M open topped variant, but experiments showed, that the performance was not as expected and in the end, the project was scrapped in favour of a modified open-topped design with higher rear plate.

Not much today…

- Q: “Please make the ignore list able to accomodate 100 thousand names, because only retards play this game” A: “You mean those, who can’t read the rules of this thread?” (SS: whining is forbidden in the Q&A thread)
- Iwakuro tank is considered in the Japanese heavy tree
- SerB doesn’t want to fill the gap between lowtier and mid-tier Japanese heavies with medium tanks, he states that the branch has to have internal cohesion, as in – the vehicles that logically follow one another
- SerB states that WoT made him more rich than he was before WoT, but he won’t tell how much
- more T110 models in game? “Unfortunately, we haven’t found anything appart from Hunnicutt” (SS: Hunnicutt is the foremost authority on US tanks, something like Doyle/Spielberger on Germans)
- SerB hopes that they will soon be able to check the archives for classified projects from 40′s and 50′s with the help of Russian ministry of defense.

Two ISU-130 vehicles

Hello everyone,

today, we’re going to have a look at two vehicles, that share the same designation: ISU-130. One of them is however highly suspicious. First, the historical one:

ISU-130 (Object 250)

This is probably the “real” ISU-130 it is perfectly suitable to be a World of Tanks premium Soviet tank destroyer.

M26 Pershing: Medium or Heavy? (Plus other stuff)

Recently I’ve run across a small little debate about what exactly was the M26 Pershing? Was it a heavy tank or a medium tank?

This is a tricky question as it was technically both. That answer, even though correct, can be made more define. From what I’ve read, the M26 was a medium tank more than it was a heavy. On June 29th, 1944 the US Ordnance, who wanted a heavy tank to boost morale, redesignated the T26(M26)s as a heavy tank. Before this the T26 was a de facto medium tank that was developed from the T20 series of medium tanks. From June 29th, ’44 to the end of WWII the M26 kept its title as a heavy. After WWII the M26 was once again designated as a medium tank.

On suspected German rebalance

Author: Daigensui (US forums)

Here’s a bit of info about the upcoming German rebalance. You can consider the info… let’s say in accordance to what WG plans, ergo more than just “pure guessing” and less than a leak.

Daigensui:

Many have started panicking due the broad statement above. However, I believe while there will be quite a bit of hard number changes, those will be compensated enough to make the Panthers and Tigers enjoyable.

Ensign’s Q&A #11

In this article series, you ask me questions, and I answer them! Email your questions to tankarchives@gmail.com, and I’ll answer them here (as long as they’re within scope, of course).

Previous Q&A

Q: What was the highest caliber gun mounted on a tank (not artillery or tank destroyer)?

A: Off the top of my head, the KV-2′s 152 mm howitzer was the biggest, but that was practically an SPG anyway.

Q: Were there German plans for autoloading tanks?

A: The T-25 was supposed to have an auto-loader. SerB says that the Waffentrager E-100 was, too. Aside from that, no idea, but there were probably some obscure autoloader projects.

Q: Is there any other kind of gun that the PzII Ausf J had aside form the 2.0 cm KwK 38?

A: Nope. The PzII Ausf J was meant to be a scout tank, so improving armament over the original PzII was not a priority. The tank quickly proved inadequate for its task, and was discontinued without receiving further modernizations.

Q: Were there tanks like E-100 planned by other nations (big gun on a heavy tank)?

A: Heavy tanks fell out of favour after the end of the war, so nothing quite like that. The closest thing was the BL-10 armed IS-7 SerB talked about, but that was never built.

Q: Were there Soviet rear turreted tanks? Why were they made? How did they compare in combat?

A: The reason for putting the turret in the rear was to allow for a larger gun. The gun’s weight would not shift the center of mass too much, the length would not interfere when fighting in the city or on bumpy terrain. Several Soviet rear-turreted tanks were planned, like the A-44Object 416, and Shashmurin’s breakthrough tank. None were ever mass produced, so it is hard to judge how well they would have performed in combat.

Q: How legit is this

 A: Completely legit.

“Since the new 85 mm gun did not fully exhaust all possibilities of the new T-34 based SPG, work was done in the fall of 1943 to install weapons of higher calibers. A 122 mm A-19 gun was installed in the stock casemate. The mass of the SPG grew to 32 tons. Penetration compared to the D-5S-85 increased by 30%. The factory index of the vehicle was SU-D25
Aside from the SU-D25 project, UZTM developed a SU-85 with a powerful artillery system: a 152.4 mm D-15 howitzer designed by factory #9. The muzzle velocity was 508 m/s, with a 48-49 kg shell. Penetration was 28% higher than the 85 mm gun, and HE capability was 100% higher. The mass of the proposed SPG was 31 tons. It received the factory index SU-D15. With analogous armament, this medium SPG was lighter than the heavy SU-152 SPG on the KV-1S chassis”

17.8.2013

- SerB is currently in bed sick apparently
- SerB is not responsible for tank price policy
- the vehicle being sellable for gold mechanism had to be developed specifically for the Superpershing case and it won’t be permanently in the game
- the Havok feature of stuff from tank flying off (the boxes, tools and such stuff) is planned

TD competition cheating

Hello everyone,

let’s have a look at the tiny little fail, that happened on Russian server recently. Well, perhaps more than tiny.

As you probably know, last month, an event took place: best tank destroyer players (well, at least the ones that got most XP) get to win the Type 59, gold and yaddayadda. Each tank destroyer category (vehicle) has its own winners.
