Regarding Gold Sinks

Hello everyone,

we all know that in this game, some tanks are better than others. I think that there will be very few people, who will say that for example the A-20, or the Panzer 38t nA are the best things ever – sure, both vehicles probably have their fans, but objectively speaking, they aren’t the easiest or nicest tanks in the game to play with.

You could of course ask why – after all, Wargaming could have put the mentioned tanks a tier lower, or they could have had limited MM from the start (like it is planned in 9.1 – there, the both A-20 and 38tnA will have its top battletier removed, giving them better MM spread). Partial reason of course is the historicity of such vehicles, but partial reason is that such vehicles (and there are more, on high tiers as well) act as goldsinks.

Buff My Tank: IS Series

Disclaimer: the contents of these articles merely illustrate the resources available for a historically accurate buff. This article does not imply that these changes should happen or will happen, either in combination or individually. Please pay attention to this disclaimer before being butthurt in the comments, thanks in advance.

My previous article on ways that the IS-2 can be buffed was received with great enthusiasm, so I figured I’ll do the rest of the series!

The IS-1 and IS-2 have been covered by the previous article. The IS-3 was barely in use at all and has barely any room for improvements over the production model, which Wargaming has already implemented. Same as the IS-4. The IS-5 isn’t in the game (we were promised the turret for it as a KV-1S module ages ago, get your shit together, WG). The IS-6 is another one-off prototype, so the most I can do here is split hairs about the transmission (which will actually make a difference in 9.0 9.1 KTTC). So let’s do the rest of the series, IS 7 through 10!

9.0.4 Feedback

Oh for heaven’s sake, Wargaming, now you’ve done it… great job with this micropatch…

Thanks to you, my battle now loads 10-15 seconds instead of previous 2 minutes, my FPS went up by cca 5 and I have less microlags. Which means you devils managed to draw me back to your game. Curse you!!!

(seriously though, I had a very pleasant playing experience, probably my first since 9.0 – please don’t “fix” it in 9.1, thank you.)

15.5.2014

- Storm states that the amount of gold ammo fired per battle is usually 10-15 percent, 20-30 percent are separate cases, which are rare, on low tiers there is a lower amount of gold shells fired
- T-54, FV215b (183), T69 – they don’t belong to the tanks, that use massive amounts of gold ammo (80 percent)
- it’s possible FV304 will be nerfed
- Churchill and IS HD models are not ready yet apparently
- Storm states that he will investigate artillery accuracy, there are no guarantees it won’t be touched (SS: earlier it was confirmed that the developers want to nerf tank accuracy a bit)

World on Fire Stream QA

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/3281269.html

Hello everyone,

there was yet another WG stream and Maiorboltach from the RU LJ community was kind enough to post some tidbits said in it.

- Havok is closed to the end of the year than to today
- there will also be ammo rack special effects for TD’s and SPG’s (flames from crew hatches)
- in 9.1, new engine graphic effect will come (the amount of exhaust smoke will depend on the engine RPM)
- in 9.1, the tank explosion effect will be reworked (more smoke, more flames, new sound)
- the sound will be generally reworked a lot in 9.1
- it’s possible that the Stronghold mode will not appear in 9.1, since WG wants to fix bugs completely first

After the rejection of the 30 ton tank projects, that were in development since WW2, Swedish tank development had to start over again from scratch. In 1949, discussions began regarding the next Swedish tank. Many of the ideas behind the project were outdated right from the start and the project would be completely revised in 1950, as it was realized that the project would be hopelessly obsolete on modern battlefield.

Our story begins in 1949, when discussions first began regarding the new Swedish tank, following the 1947 cancellation of the previous tank project. It was concluded that the new tank would be a 20-ton vehicle, mainly intended for infantry support and armed with a 75mm gun. The new project was based on the idea that large numbers of tanks have to be able to take losses, which in a country with limited resources means that armor needs to be sacrificed. It was thought that the protection of the vehicle could not be increased to a relevant degree without too high a cost per vehicle. Another idea was that Sweden did not have the resources or infrastructure for heavy vehicles and while there may have been some truth behind these ideas at the time, the times were changing and Swedish infrastructure and resources were rapidly improving as Sweden helped rebuild Europe after WW2.

Storm Confirms: Soviet LT8 will be the LTTB

Hello everyone,

yesterday, I posted about Storm stating that the Soviets will get their LT8 along with the German LT8 (RU251). Well, last night (after I asked), Storm confirmed that the Soviet tier 8 light tank will indeed be Yuri Pasholok’s LTTB (a Soviet light tank proposal from late 1943-early 1944), as I predicted (yay me *Droopy’s “happy” face*)

image502df276b9790

Now that we know this, I can tell you with almost a certainty that this tank will be completely unhistorical, because the proposed original is way too weak for tier 8 (notably: 22 tons, 300hp engine, 90mm frontal armor under 60 degrees, 85mm S-53 gun – 120mm pen or so) – its only real strength would (according to the specifics) be the 200mm frontal turret. The turret was not even designed, the only thing that actually existed was the drawing of the hull (shown above) and a list of specifications, the development was discontinued in 1944, giving way to the T-34/85 production.

Obviously, in tier 8 light tank terms, the historical version is complete shit as it is now, so what I think they will do is this:

- uparmor it somewhat
- upgun it to either high power 85mm, or 100mm (D-10/LB-1) – that itself is not totally unhistorical, this vehicle’s (known) turret ring size would actually allow it, still a fake though, plus, as a downside, the size of the 100mm breech would mean terrible depression, (-3 or -4, depending on the design)
- give it a WG-designed fake turret
- give it a fake 600-700hp engine

14.5.2014

Hello everyone, in case you are wondering what the hell happened that suddenly in one day, we have so much info on 9.1, it’s because tomorrow, the 9.1 open test was supposed to begin. As far as I know (from WG RU), the test was postponed to next week – the reason for that is the fact the 9.1 test build is bugged (specifically, nasty FPS drops). WG wants to fix that first.

- VK Porsche not buffed while it needs a buff? “It happens”
- Storm states that the nerf of imbalanced tanks WILL come, developers did not decide to leave them
- gold ammo shots make 10-15 percent of all shots fired, sometimes up to 20 percent – there are peaks of more, but they are rare, official statistics won’t be disclosed
- Storm confirms that gold ammo statistics do not show “terrible dominance of gold ammo”
- the gold ammo statistics are about the same for tier 10 and the entire game
- Storm states he could partially agree with the increase of role of armor
- skill MM? Storm: “If it will come, then in a separate mode, such as ‘ranked random’ as an addition to normal random battles”
- normalization will not be further reduced, it’s small as it is
- T18 will still be too strong in 9.1? “You can play on T18″ (Storm states later that T18 will be nerfed)
