EU: Czech portal fail (and other issues)

“I got 99 problems and the portal quality sure is one”

Hello everyone,

I actually thought for quite some time whether to make a post on it or not, but it’s pretty much a widely recognized problem. Let’s start with a bit of a background.

Lots of you fine folks reading FTR have probably asked yourself at one point: “Why does a random guy do this, when WG could simply hire an employee to do the translations of developer staff, post more historical articles and such?”

Listy’s Book

Disclaimer: I am posting this because I think it’s a worthy cause and that David “Lister” Listy is a good blogger and author. If you are not interested in paper books, feel free to skip this article.

Hello everyone,

remember that poll on the right side, asking whether you’d be interested in a historical book, describing one WoT nation at a time? Well, what I did not tell you is, that the book author would be Listy.

Meeting with SerB

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/2713623.html

Well, a couple of Russian guys met SerB in person on a conference at Nizhny Novgorod and asked him a bunch of questions, there’s a photo in the post linked above. Some info gleaned from SerB:

- in 0.9.0 there will be more graphic improvements and possibly Japanese branch, 0.9.0 will come around New Year
- the amount of polygons on tank will be increased three times (10 thousand to 30 thousand), some vehicles will have even 50 thousand, this graphics improvement will come in 2014

8.9 impressions – part 3

Hello everyone,

in part 1 and part 2, I did put down my opinion on the new German branch. Now it’s time for the last part, featuring premium tanks.

Chi-Nu Kai

So, the time has finally come: the Japanese tanks are here with their first pre-tree medium, the Chi-Nu Kai (a Chi-Nu with Chi-To turret and gun). It’s a tier 5 premium vehicle though.

8.9 – all that’s left

Hello everyone,

if you did read the earlier posts, you might have noticed that there are some changes that were missing. Some stuff was not available yet, some I forgot to add. Let’s have a look at the rest of the 8.9 changes.

Tiger mantlet

Tiger mantlet was changed once again (thanks to Orkel for reminding me), it now looks roughly like this:

orkel_1381626331

Orkel on the topic:

The highlighted pink areas go from 150mm (8.8) to 90mm (8.9). Presumably so it’s not 250mm of combined armor (100mm turret behind it), so it’s going to a “reasonable” 190mm of effective armor instead. 00mm if we take into account the turret’s slight < shaped slope behind it. Rest of the turret is the same. Won’t make much of a difference in tier 7 battles, 190mm of armor is still a tough nut to crack (especially when it’s spaced and sloped, and fired at from 100+ metres when pen drop starts to take effect) but it suffers a little in random absorbtions from the highest tier guns.

8.9 Tank destroyers camo tests

Author: FrankyK (German EU section)

Hello everyone,

FrankyK tried to test the camo factor of the new 8.9 tank destroyers on the test server. As a spotter, he had a Löwe with 100 percent crew and optics installed (so that the viewrange is beyond 400 maters). All the tested tank destroyers had camo net, 100 percent camo crew and visual camo.

Here’s what he found:

“Sichtbar Freies Feld” means “visible on open field”
“Sichtbar Busch” means “visible when hiding behind a bush”

World of Tanks versus War Thunder

Edit: I closed the comments because it’s just rage at this point. Please note that this is a blog. It represents my opinions, what I like and don’t like, not an universal “that’s good/bad” truth. You were right. I did not know exactly how War Thunder trees work. So I checked properly – and I still don’t like it (or rather, I like it even less). Not because I am a fanboy, not because I am a hater, I simply don’t like it. That’s all.

Hello everyone,

this will be the first and probably the last (at least on FTR) post on War Thunder I am going to make, comparing both games from “outside” point of view. I will not be commenting on War Thunder planes, as I didn’t play them nearly enough and I didn’t play World of Warplanes either at all. Just tanks.

Let’s roll back a week or so ago (or is it two weeks?) to the Igromir game expo (something like Russian Gamescom or E3), where Gaijin unveiled the tanks for War Thunder. I watched the stream and was like “holy shit, that looks like Skyrim with tanks!” – and it does, doesn’t it? I mean, the quality was beautiful. But even then, after the “preeeeeettyyyyyyyy” feeling wore off, I noticed some physics glitches, like StuG getting stuck on some stone or whatever, nothing serious, but enough to break the “this will be awesome” feeling.

Wot Viewer fix

Hello everyone,

having a problem with WoT Viewer crashing when trying to load the 8.9 test client? Here’s a fix by ghool. Tried it, it works.

“It works perfectly (atleast so far) if you only copy the customization.xml from 8.8 version’s res\scripts\item_defs\vehicles\ folder to 8.9 folders. shows all the new tanks etc.

Remember to make backups of the folders so you do not accidentally screw up the client for when you wish to actually play on test server.”
