RU251 Historical Characteristics

Hello everyone,

just a quick rundown of the RU251, upcoming tier 8 light tank. The numbers come from a reliable source, its author however does not wish to be listed as some of the materials concerning this tank are actually still considered confidential by the Bundeswehr.

The picture above was taken recently. The location of the tank is currently confidential and to be quite honest, taking pictures of it is not exactly something people should do, that’s why the picture is so scrambled. There were more pictures taken and Wargaming has them at their disposal, hence the historical accuracy of the RU251 model in the game.

9.3 Tank Summary

Hello everyone,

9.2 is boring, noone cares about that. But 9.3 – that’s something else. Since I get a lot of questions about the patch and usually it’s the same questions repeating themselves, here’s a summary of the facts we know about tanks in patch 9.3. The testing of this patch should start (according to the “Insider”) a month from today, almost exactly (last week of August). It will bring:

- US light line
- Soviet tier 7 and 8 light tanks
- German tier 8 light tank
- KV-1S split

(and a Hellcat nerf, but not a T49 nerf for example)

US light line

Starts from Chaffee, which will lose its “special LT” status (it’s the last of the original hightier scouts), will be nerfed but it will also recieve normal tier 5 LT matchmaking. Its top turret will be removed and will be replaced by the production variant of the M24 Chaffee (basically, both turrets look roughly the same, the new one has a machinegun or something). The line composition will be:

Tier 5 – Chaffee (model leak, second leak)
Tier 6 – T37 Light Tank (model leak, history of the tank)
Tier 7 – M41 Walker Bulldog (model leak, leaked stats, more leaked stats)
Tier 8 – T49 Light Tank (model and stats leak, history)

So yes, the tier 8 will have a 152mm gun-launcher, without the missiles of course. The line will not be a “blind end”, it will merge with the second American medium/heavy line (T49 will go to the T54).

World of Tanks Tactics in Real Life

Source: http://historian30h.livejournal.com/243658.html

Hello everyone,

it is often said that World of Tanks is a game, not a simulator, but apparently, this is not the entire truth, since World of Tanks tactics seem to work in real life as well :) The following was recently posted in the “Military Portal of Ukraine” VK group.

“Just talked to the recon of the 51st Brigade. They told me one interesting story. One of their soldiers was wounded at Marinka. They are there for quite a while already and they have even stopped calling it “hell” and “horror”, since everyone got already used being shelled. They are shooting almost every hour. Both from Russian side and from our side. Russian green troops are excercising on our soldiers. In the beginning, they simply shelled from distance, now they are so cheeky as to come in tanks and open fire. We do not fire back as long as they don’t cross into our territory. Only our troops are beginning to respond – they give them hell.

Crytek Overcame Financial Issues?

Thanks to Mesotronik for the main source of this info.

Hello everyone,

since you are currently reading what is basically a game blog, I presume that you know what is Crytek: a game developer, best known for their indigenous game engine called CryEngine as well as some computer games, most notably the Crysis series. Recently, it was rumored that Crytek was in financial trouble and that Wargaming might be actually interested in giving a helping hand.

At that time, Crytek denied the rumors of financial issues, but as it turns out, they were true, as recently, Crytek came out and admitted them. Naturally, this in turn resurrected the rumors of Wargaming interest, especially since Wargaming confirmed they are thinking already about WoT 2.0 (and let’s face it, any such large WoT overhaul really needs a better engine). One thing from the article linked above is interesting though, the last part. Two parts actually. The majority of the article is PR fluff, but check this out.

One:

“According to a statement issued to VentureBeat, the CryEngine developer was “in a transitional phase” and has since found the capital necessary to proceed with its upcoming project like Homefront: The Revolution and Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age.”

Two:

We’ve reached out to Crytek to inquire more about its mysterious new funding and to see if any of its already announced projects will be delayed or cancelled due to its recent financial woes. We’ll update as we find out more.

So, who else thinks Big Boss Kislyi made them an “offer they couldn’t refuse”? :)

26.7.2014

- Storm on gold shells for credits: “We collected statistics, thought about it and decided not to do anything for now.”
- a player suggests making T-62A turret armor similiar to the T-62 one. Storm: “And can you find data for T-62A?” (SS: as in, they are apparently not identical)
- game has FPS drops on high-end computers? Veider: “What do you mean by high end? I have I5 4430 + GTX 770 and no drops”
- game freezes during battle loading are caused by faulty/obsolete mods
- Object 277 and 770 will not be implemented (too strong)

The Great Stuart Escape

Hello everyone,

on the battlefields of World War 2, M5 Stuart was one of the ubiquitous tanks – but its career did not end there. After the war, it was used by many armies, including (for a short while) by the Czechoslovak one (although not actively). The Czechoslovak Stuarts never fired a shot in anger ever again, but one of them became the hero of one “special” operation after the war.

For four decades of oppression between 1948 and 1989, many people tried to cross the border illegally to escape Czechoslovakia, hoping to find freedom in the west. Most of those, who wanted to flee used relatively conventional means – in the beginning, they simply crossed the poorly guarded borders on foot, later they escaped as tourists (simply staying in the destination country for good or travelling further west) or they visited their relatives abroad. There were however cases (although they were relatively rare), when brave people used very unconventional methods to cross the more and more protected border. Several of these included the use of an armored vehicle (some were described in earlier FTR articles). However, there was only a single case where a real combat-worthy tank was used to punch through the borders.

“Invader” Cartoon

I don’t normally repost other videos than those from Ranzar (I really like those), but this is pretty funny. Yuri Pasholok commented this video: “And this is roughly how random battles look from Friday to Monday” – quite fitting…

- the signs the E-25 are holding mean “game loss”
- the sign the half-destroyed tank holding means “I’ve been spotted, I need help”
